hey all. I've been using this forum for info for many years but never got around to signing up for an account. In retrospect I really should have taken care of this, as I cannot post this thread in the correct location
Anywho, I've been looking all day pretty much as to whether a gamepad is compatible with WP8. I read the xbox controller works on RT. I also saw many youtube videos of people playing GTAIII on their android phone with an xbox controller.....
I also could not find anything showing that ANY USB device would would work on WP8. I've found nothing. I tried searching this website as well. could not find anything. I'm aware that WP8 is a new OS, but I am just surprised that no one thought about that (not surprised if MS didn't think about it :silly: )
Can anyone confirm or deny this?? emulating games on wp8 with an xbox controller would be awesome.
Thanks for the help, and have a great day!

Well, I've been following development of this for a while now, and today i got an e-mail saying it was released.
What is it? Well its a device that connects to the audio jack of a phone (mainly iPhone, iPod touch etc...) and you can then use a program to send IR commands to any devices you own. Currently the company only support apple products though.
The program that is made by thinkflood has a huge database full of commands for all types of devices, makes an models. It can also learn commands by storing the IR signal from a remote. IT's pretty basic, however i have no knowledge of programming for android my area is web design and programming lol.
Therfore I am asking if there is anyone who could make such a program for Android devices? The accessory costs $49 roughly £32. And in my opinion is well worth the money as this type of universal remote would be priceless. We all love our wifi and bluetooth remotes for PC remotes etc, now I'm sure i speak for a lot of people when I say it would be awesome to control the whole shebang
Well I hope someone agrees with me and decides to pick up this request, I also hope that i posted this in the right section?
Thanks for listening, any questions just reply here. Also google thinkflood redeye mini for their website and info about their products.
Come on, anyone?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I emailed them and they told me that they are starting development on android the beginning on the year
This is highly interesting and old Android phone is both cheaper and more flexible than some overpriced and crappy Logitech remote.
Let's hope Thinkflood releases and Android app soon!
I e-mailed Thinkflood today and got this response:
Thank you for your email. We are in the very early stages of development for Android, and are starting with integration for the Wi-Fi RedEye. Once we have that mastered, we will consider moving onto development for the mini.

Sounds like their still working on Android support.
+1 for this shizzle
Thanks for posting on this old thread and keeping me informed I forgot I made this thread haha.
Nice to know they are currently working on it. This along with my wifi remotes, such as XBMC, Eventghost and MCE Remote will working brilliantly I'll sell my logitech Harmony remote then.
Red Eye for Android is out. But no sign of the mini version. And I dont know of anything similar in the market.
The only issue I have with these mini IR adapters is how powerful they are. Don't get me wrong I'm all for consolidating gadgets, but after setting up Logitech Harmony's, I think they are much better and are worth the extra cost, plus you won't lose the tiny adapters. With that said, if you have an old android phone, this is the perfect mod, no need to throw away that phone!
An a similar note, logitech is releasing an IR blaster that works with their Android App, essentially, so long as your on the same wi-fi network, your phone/app sends commands to the IR blaster which is staged in front of your devices. Very similar to Pear actually.
it sux they spent any time on the wifi version. thats crap. the mini should had been considered first. but of course they want everyone to spend boat loads of money initailly.
I haven't been able to find anything on this, but are there any plans for Mojang to port Minecraft Pocket to Windows Phone? And if not, is there any way that a third party dev here on XDA could some how get it done via a Java emulator or something?
There has been some threads on the minecraft forums regarding this in the past, but never any real reply from anyone important as far as I know. Based on that, I'd say an official port of Minecraft PE for Windows Phone doesn't seem very likely in the near future.
While it's not exactly what you're looking for, and I'm sure you're already well aware of it, there's always Minecraft clones like Survivalcraft.
Yea, already aware of SurivalCraft...I was hoping with the release of the XBLA version of Minecraft we might have got a bit of news reguarding Pocket Edition. I was also hoping that Mojang would want to put out PE for Windows Phone to get rid of copycats like SurvivalCraft...
Oh well, I guess the reason I couldn't find anything on it is because there's been no news whatsoever. In fact, this post is the first thing to come up when I search "Minecraft Pocket for Windows Phone" on Google.
I too would like Mindcraft on WP7. When I get a board min at home, I tend to jump into Lava Survival a lot using WOM.... So having it on the road.
I am not sure but I think my infrared port may be dead... For like the first 5 or 10 minutes of setting up Peel it worked perfectly but then, just stopped. I even tried a factory reset to see if that restored functionality, no joy. Anyone else having this issue?
Wow, Samsung tech support is beyond useless. Told them the IR port wasn't working, they told me to download a barcode reader app and see if the Camera worked. When I explained to them why that made no sense, they told me that I should contact technical support for Peel. I explained that I have done that, now they want me to send my tablet into them for 2-3 weeks for them to determine if the tablet is defective, and then should it be defective I'd receive a replacement within another 2-3 weeks.
I haven't had tech support this bad since I had to spend 3 hours on hold with Palm back in the day about my Palm Tungsten T2.
Do you people not search. This was talked about months ago.
I apologize, I did search but obviously not well enough. Could you perhaps provide a link to where it was talked about?
I did find something interesting out on my own... I finally got the tab working with Keis and it said there was a firmware update. I installed the update, and tried out Peel. Peel turned on the TV... Once. Only once. So, I tried TouchSquid Demo and it worked for quite a bit longer, then it too stopped.
At this point, I believe that my tablet is probably experiencing some very odd software glitch where the device doesn't do something to the IR port and it stops working. It is a good thing I didn't buy the device for its TV remote capabilities. I didn't though, I bought it to replace a Nook Tablet as an ereader, something is does fabulously.
It is kind of interesting though, I've been interested in using a handheld computing device as a remote for a long, long time. I have had Palm PDA's that would do it - sort of - most notably the Tungsten T2 and Tungsten T3 both performed alright as a TV remote, but the IR port wasn't very well suited to some devices. I found that earlier models had similar if more restricted results.
Seems to me that (especially with the writings from other people on the subject) the idea of using a computing device as a remote is... Sketchy at best. Not entirely sure why, afterall, the IR Blaster is designed for such but the software - while it was working the first time in Peel and even Touch Wiz, does leave much to be desired. Harmony remote perhaps is in my near future.

Smart ass
So I thought this might be a problem with the hardware itself. However I got it replaced, and found that the new model has the exact same problem. I'm going to go with software on this one.

yeah, smart ass
Well, its true. All of the info you need can be found in the q&a forums and by searching.
Alright, look. I appriciate that answering questions all day can be a pain in the ass if you chose to do it. However, no one gets paid here. I answer questions I have an answer for but likewise, no one is telling you that you have to post. It isn't like I didn't search. I saw a lot of posts on what different kinds of software to use but I didn't see anything where the hardware was working and then stopped.
I'm not asking you to personally help me. My problem is obviously rare and that's alright with me. Now, if I missed something and you want to help by posting a link, great. If not, then what does it help to be a smart ass? If you really don't like helping people with problems that you may think are stupid, or silly, then what good does it do to be all, "This was talked about, search for it." What are you hoping to acomplish by making such a post?
There are a lot of people here who manage to answer questions without being a ****. There are a lot of people who manage to answer questions like you did but also provide a link, both being helpful and a **** at the same time.
I will quote Wil Wheaton... Don't be a ****.
Hi. Christmas is approaching and we promised our son to buy him an ipad or laptop. He is undecided what to buy. I know that mostly it depends on what you need it for however I would like some suggestions from you. And I have one question about the ipad. Can you play java and shockwave games such as the games in facebook on the ipad?
Thanks
No, you can't play Facebook games on the iPad. The only alternative is trying to find the same game in the app store.
iPad is good for strictly internet browsing, maybe looking at pictures, or watching movies (if you can successfully transfer them to the device with the oh so awesome iTunes)
A laptop will do everything, being a full fledged computer.
iPad is easier to use though for the things it can do (except transferring stuff to it), so if he just plans on browsing the internet (without flash or shockwave content), and basic stuff like that than the iPad
If he wants to be able to do everything he can do on the computer the iPad will seem lacking.

^ This. XDA is for Android and Windows Phone devices (also Windows 8) only. Thread closed.
Hey everyone! So apparently I don’t post a lot so I couldn’t post in the development section (guess they don’t like to provide help to noobs, oh well) so Im gonna ask here.
Are there ANY emulators for the Surface RT 2 running 8.1? Yes, I have the Test Mode thing installed as well as Win86Emu, however Im finding less of a use for this thing everyday. I got it for $70 bucks used and was going to use it for Photoshop and drawing, but apparently the Surface RT is the unwanted autistic offspring of the Surface family. Why didn’t I buy a new Surface? Not everyone is a millionare, and I have cancer so I can’t afford anything like over $80 bucks.
Im tired of not being able to use this how I want. Its almost 2018, why hasn’t the Surface been FULLY hacked yet? I want to be able to run apps like Photoshop, Nestopia, Mupen64, Chrome, etc. Microsoft’s a bunch of ******* for taking the emulators off of the Windows Store, too bad there’s no way to get them anymore.
Any ideas? Reallllly don’t want to let this tablet go to waste if I can find DECENT drawing/photo editing software as well as emulators that LET ME USE a controller. Thanks!
****ty I am in the same boat
