I have a question about CWM. I installed it on my stock rom and now it says unable to mount /system. will i be able to flash other custom roms? and if i can how to make a backup of current rom?
p.s. i made a backup of all my apps via Titanium Backup Pro, and if i install it on new rom will it be able to restore those apps there? and does flashing a kernel and rom changes my baseband version?
choose the backup option from cwm menu.

And do you know an answer for other questions?
no you need to re-install all apps from the android market.
after re-installation, you can restore your saved data like high scores/achievements and all.
Do press the Thanks button if i helped you
The cwm doesnt work for stock roms because tj style has clearly mentioned that the recovery wont work custom or stock rom using rfs file systems.....you cant do backup using cwm..you can only backup boot and recovery image...to backup apps use appmonster pro......the apps will be backed up in your sd then after flashing your new rom you can install them from sd....you can flash custom roms...
any other doubts post it here
please press thanks if i have helped you

That happen to me..ill guide you to what i did.. i think you miss out on restartiong phone before flashing cwm..just flash your phone again with original stock.. let it boot and restar..then add the root zip and restar in recovery..update it and let it boot normally.. restar again and flash cwm with odin.. and let it boot..

no, because stock rom has rfs file system, so cwm cant make a backup of stock systems, but after you flash the custom rom you can create a backup of any custom rom that supports ext4 file system... and if you want to make a backup of your installed apps use titanium backup, it worked best for me, and you can use it on any rom...
whatever appmonster can do, titanium can do as well...
why have two apps, when one does the entire job (and even more)??
also, backups made by titanium (apk as well as data) are compressed...so you get a little more space on your card...
Well i am new to android custom ROM i was using my official gingerbread 2.3.6, I rooted my samsung galaxy ace and installed Clock work mod Recovery v5.0.2.6
I took the complete back up of my android os using it with reference to some youtube tutorials. Everything went fine and it showed backup sucessfully created like in the video. I even could install a custom ROM and run it on my phone.
When i started to restore from my backup ... during the time when it is restoring system , after a while it shows the error "Error while restoring /system!"
can anyone help me out to get my official copy of gingerbread back....??
Any HELP is appreciated....!!!!
Thank you in advance...
You can only use CWM to restore the system image for the Rom you're currently on. You need to flash back to GB and then use your nandroid to restore your setup.
Did you installed ICS firmware? Because gingerbeard can't run on ICS firmware
Hey thanks for the help.....
i got the problem fixed by installing gingerbread os first and then recovered from clockwork mod recovery......
Now i have all my files and same os that i have backed up!!!

I found this with both JB and GB ROMs trying to restore ICS but the problem is resolved the way previous posters have stated install rom of correct android version then restore.. or else your bricked.. and its akward being bricked in greece on holiday with no computer...
Ok, then I have to look for a ARHD 4.1.0 version. (android 4.0.4).
somebody can help me?

I am having the same error. On Lollipop custom rom, trying to restore Kitkat CWM backup. Then, i get error while restoring /system. So, I flash the same custom kitkat rom, where my backup is based on. Reboot and went through initial rom setup and confirmed it's running Kitkat and same firmware as the CWM backup I was trying to restore. Reboot in Philz CWM and proceed to restoring that back up and i am having the exact same error (error while restoring /system!). I checked on the CWM log, it says "tar: invalid tar magic". Does anyone have any idea?

you can try backing up your stuff with titanium backup and then doing a factory reset and start from scratch or you can look for the stock rom zip online and flash that...

What's the current state of your device? Rooted, stock or custom ROM? Do you have the Sprint version?
Grab the stock JB firmware and flash it via RSD Lite. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095536 for reference and links.
Stock JB firmware can be found here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/asanti_c/list.php
Rsd lite isn't working for me, sprint version running cm10.1
What steps have you taken up to the point where RSD fails? I'm sure we can help you recover a stock firmware.
Sometimes it takes multiple tries until a full FXZ flash completes.
I download it, and I edit the xml and delete the 2 lines, then I go to flash it and it says failed 1/23, but I am having some fastboot driver issues..
What's the error output? You have two options at this point. You can use this xml file from my FXZ package: http://d-h.st/6gu
Or, you can utilize this open recovery Stock Sprint Jelly Bean nandroid from XDA user kabaldan: http://d-h.st/N0p
...good luck.
I might try the XML file and maybe that will work, if not I will do the .zip
I have an lg optimus g e975 recently i installed custom rom on it and made backup of my stock rom. Due to some problem in custom rom I tried to go back to stock rom when i ran the backup it was saying md5 sum mismatch, so i searched the forum and found that by deleting nadroid.md5 and creating the new nandroid.md5 file it can be solved so tried it but while restoring the backup after creating new nandroid.md5 file a black screen appeared saying kernal crashed and there where three option 1.download mode 2.recovery 3.i am not remembering. So can any one help me please how to restore the stock rom.
Thank You.....
