cdma on sensation - HTC Sensation

hey i got a question is there a way u can use a cdma porvider like sprint on a gsm phone ?

Yes, on the logic board remove GSM radio IC, replace with new CDMA IC (since your chip is likely BGA, it will be helpful to get a reflow station), attach it to a new antennae - just mod the length of your current one depending on the intended provider's frequency. Write a new baseband for your IC and device, compile into a new radio. Download source code for the drivers of your chosen CDMA IC, modify and compile with the source code for the version of Android you are going to use - 4.2 presumably. Repackage the new radio and android distribution into a flash-able ROM format, upload to your device.
That's the easy part done.
Now, you have to give a number of your phones to the CDMA provider and the telecommunication authority of your country (FCC in the USA). Pay them to rigorously test your device and approve for use on the network. Afterwards, go to the network provider and sign up for a plan, have them connect your device to their network.
Enjoy your new/old phone that once could have been used anywhere on the planet with a quick sim swap, but now uses technology employed in a handful of odd ball countries.
Easy...

That's hilarious

[Q] What is S-Off and what is the difference between Sensation and the 4g.

Hello every one, I am thinking of getting a Sensation so decided to ask you about 2 issues ;
1) I keep seeing S-Off and for the hell of me I know not what this is.
2) While attempting a purchase on Amazon for phone and accessories, I always see Sensation and Sensation 4g. I can guess that the 4G has the 4g network capabilities which I will not need (in Egypt we do not have it yet) but for accessories will it really matter or is it the same when it comes to accessories and only the protocol differs.
Thanks a lot for the replies.
Accessories are the same.
S-off is r/w access to the nand on which system recovery and boot are stored.
Thanks. So no I can purchase accessories without needing to worry. As for the S-Off I still do not comprehend. What is it again?? Is it the ability to read and write to the nand from the recovery partition. did I understand correctly.
There is no difference between Sensation and Sensation 4G other than branding. Both have the same HSPA+ speeds, T-mobile is just branding it as "4G". Sensation 4G is for USA, and Sensation is for the other parts of the world (S4G is locked)
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Pretty much. If s-off means nothing to you in terms of rooting your phone enjoy your purchase.

S-off means you can put modified software (ROMs) on your device and generally make it better. You have two methods to get S-OFF: xda way (revolutionary.io) or official HTC way. The xda way is better
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA Premium App
in layman's terms, it's "rooting"your phone (ability to replace any and all files on your phone). Being able to do that will allow you the ability to change any visual aspect you can think possible on your phone, just about any kind of performance, over clocking your cpu, undervolting your phone, enabling faster charging times, extreme power saving abilities, even the ability top change the entire operating system to something completely different... Along with loads more you can do that were never possible "stock". Removing these chains can come at a risk if you don't know what you're doing so make sure you research before unlocking your phones full potential.
Thanks every one for your explanation. Highly appreciated. I will get it for sure then. Cya soon on sensation sub forums.
Get the sensation without the t-mobile branding on it. You can flash tmobile rom if you like after s-off and it would be the same as the tmobile version sensation 4G, unless you like the tmobile branding stamped on your phone

Hi skygear,
You and the user idavid actually posted contradicting claims You say the UMTS bands are _different_, idavid says they are the _same_ (several posts above yours). Can anyone actually verify what is actually the case?
Here's my phone - it's a T-Mobile Sensation 4G, and the website I bought it from originally claimed the UMTS bands were 900, 1700, 2100. When I got the box from them, the bands stated on the box were 1700, 2100, 1900 (in that order). I checked the website (newayci.com) again today and they corrected the specs to match those on the box, but in the carrier chart they claim my Sensation 4G won't work on Bell at all and only as 2G on Rogers - which does not make sense as Bell and Rogers use the same UMTS 1900 band.
So you see there's quite a lot of confusion, and it would be great if we could collectively clarify that. Is there any way to check it (except for getting a Rogers or Bell SIM with a 3G plan and putting that one in?)?
I am using the phone on Wind Mobile in Toronto, and it works fine, but I wasn't able to figure out so far if it will work as 3G on Rogers or Bell, who use UMTS 1900 band.
I posted the same question in another thread too, I'll report what I get from there (if anything).
Thanks in advance for help.

Operator change

Hey,
I have a HTC desire and it is in orange. I didn't buy it from the company itself but some other shop. So I now want to change from orange to another operator , but when insert a sum card of that operator I get half of the connectivity.. is it the radio which causes this or hardware? It is a sim free phone

what you meen half connectivity? i know that some operators use UMTS band and have weak connection on desire i just has same problem with one of israeli operator but this operator befor 3 years was cdma without sim card. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelephone
So its the operators problem?
Moving to pelepone as well.

May be you need to ask your provider if it an gsm one
Both of the operators are GSM. Any other ideas?
Also , I didn't buy the phone from the operator itself but some third party shop and when I bought it they asked me what operator I wanted , orange or Pelephone and I said orange.. judging by this I think it is possible to somehow "repair" the connectivity?

[Q] HTC Sensation XE 4G?

Hi to all,
I don't see any thread regards the possibility for a 3G phone into a 4G.
Maybe its a silly thought, can it be possible?
does to days phone have the same chip or chipset for a 4G, may be its disabled?, or need to have a 4G simcard?, or is it if you want a 4G phone, you need to buy new phone all together.
Wait to hear your thoughts.

as far as i know 4g is available in USA and in UK, so we are talking about LTE, our ordinary Seny doesent have LTE mobo installed. And ordinary Seny have same mobo as 4G - LTE module
Thanks for the reply dublinz.
So LTE and 4G are both different systems? does this mean for a 3G network phone to be close as a 4G it becomes an LTE?
Ok let me rephrase my question from my first post. Let say there is a
HTC sensation 4G and a HTC sensation XE with beats audio(which is dead at the moment). As you know other HTC devices didn't have the capability to have Beats Audio, know nearly all HTC's phones have that function thanks to the Dev teams.
Now, for the 4G or LTE, can it be emulated in a 3G phone so it can use the 4G networks. Let say some Dev team see what chip or software in a HTC Sensation 4G which is present, and it can be emulated in one way or another, or make some kind of a virtual software to have the 4G in a HTC sensation Xe for example.
Wait to here you're comments.

Your logic will be plausible if Sensation 4g doesent have extra module (hardware part) on its mobo. So Dev cant create virtual LTE board (my opinion), otherwise trust me HTC will implement it (you know fight for the buck ) You probably heard that Sensation 4G wont have ICS upgrade until June, it is down to LTE driver that create problems….
If you're talking about the 4g that T-Mobile claims (hspa+) then the xe has it as does the international sensation as does the T-Mobile sensation.
As for 4g-lte or 4g-wimax (sprint), no sensation has a possibility of even emulating this. It's just not built into the SoC.

Ok, thanks for the reply guys. Thats all I needed to know.
Oh well in this case I keep on dreaming

Is There the possibility to somehow use 4G in Europe and anywhere else w Sensation?

As most of our countries are progressing in connection speeds - and for instance in Sweden, where I am - most New phones come with Free 4G instead of the former 3G.
As we know Sensation works w 4G in the US T-Mobile Network - but Is There the possibility to somehow use 4G in Europe and anywhere else w our Sensation? As far as I figure - it's only a question of radio + possibly kernel? Am I right or are there other issues w that idea? - if I'm right - then can we not patch /port stuff like this from newer devices somehow? - don't flog Me if this has been discussed previously - i tried searching but came up with nothing! Thanks for any info available on this - and happy holidays folks!

As far as I know our Sensations are capable of using 4G in every part of the world, of course if your network provides it. You don't have to change anything

Sensation doesnt have 4G technology (neither LTE nor WiMax) ..the T-Mobile US 4G is just a marketing of their speeds which used to be good at that point of time (remember year and half ago ) ..
Sensation only supports HSPA (14.4 Mbps ) thats all ..which is still a 3G band
and to Get 4G first we need to have Hardware support ..which is obviously lacking

[Q] How do I know if my phone can get 4G

It's probably a silly question but I don't know how to check. I bought an HTC One X off ebay, it' s brand new and unlocked (but I can tell it used to be on orange.). I'm currently on O2 but thinking about switching so I can get 4G but I won't bother if my phone can't get it. So how do I know if it can use the 4G network?
Thanks in advance.
Assume you are talking LTE (although the official definition of "4G" was revised to include evolved forms of HSPA).
For LTE compatibility, you have to find the specs for the exact model of One X you have (which may get confusing) and find out what band/frequency of LTE the phone is compatible with. Don't confuse this with the GSM or HSPA bands, you've got to look for the LTE band.
Then you need to find the LTE band/frequency used by your carrier. If the LTE frequencies are the same (phone is compatible with your carrier's LTE network) and the phone is unlocked, it should work.
Keep in mind that frequency/band support is most usually set in hardware. So the phone has to be equipped (in hardware) with the correct band. No amount of radio flashing will change the LTE band.
Thanks for your help. So how do I find out the exact model of my phone?

And therein lies the challenge. Matching your phone to a model number or accurate specs is not an easy thing. Telling us what carrier version or country would be a good start.
Also, be sure to hit the "thanks" button for any of my posts that you find helpful.
Thanks! I'm on O2 pay as you go but I bought the phone unlocked from eBay, it was previously on the orange network. I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure the phone is a UK model.
I can't find the thanks button on this app but ill be sure to press it when I check in on my laptop
