My phone has been restarting at random, I rooted it and flashed ROM.I flashed a stock recovery and it is still rebooting at random, I have filed a warranty with AT&T and they are sending me a refurbished Skyrocket and I need to send this phone back. I am confident my phone doesn't have any physical damage, so my main concern is will they be able to tell I've rooted my phone and therefore voided my warranty?

If you've got a custom ROM on it, yes. Odin to stock. You can find instructions on how to in the stickies.
Also, check your flash counter in download mode. If you're 100% stock and that says no, you're fine.

Yeah, I flashed it what the stock recovery using Odin. In download mode it displays:
"Odin Mode
Product name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official"
If you're on stock GB or ICS with the stock recovery in place, they're not going to know.

how to unroot a phone and claim back warranty?
Hi, I'm using Nexus S.
I found on the wiki
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android
that Nexus S can relock the unlocked bootloader by using this command
fastboot oem lock
I give it a shot. and the bootloader is now locked.
I reboot my phone. The boot up only has a Google logo without the lock icon.
Does it means my phone is now unrooted? and ready to claim back warranty?
My suggestion is to odin back.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Odin first then re lock bootloader sir.

sorry, What's odin?
Odin is a windows tool used by samsung support staff to restore their android phones to stock. This is the most complete way to restore your device.
Please note that using odin on your 9023 will change your carrier info to EUR which I did never see in wild!
But honestly, do you really think samsung is checking your devices that exhaustingly? Time's money.

Basically ODIN is the program to be used in order to get the ota or go back to stock condition, you will have to go back to stock recovery. Odin is a program for your pc to flash your phone and can put the stock recovery back.

Do you still have superuser installed?
And if you boot into recovery, is it stock or clockwork?
I did it like this: restored to stock 2.3.3 with nandroid backup. Then i removed superuser. Locked the bootloader. Still had cwm recovery though.
But as soon as i updated to 2.3. 4, the recovery turned stock too.

Hi bro, since it's back to stock and the fastboot being locked. technically my warranty is claimed back? haha
They wont really care about your software. Really.
In the warranty term and condition stated that if only your software is the problem, then you will be in trouble. If not, it's alright.

unfortunately that's not right! i got my NS back on friday (sent it in, because my display is on some parts not reacting on touch any more), with the message, that my warranty is void due to an application, that is able to change system data...(no more information yet, i am still in discussion with the service center)...though i have unrooted and relocked the bootloader?!
I was flashing back to the stock rom and now Bootlooped, unable to enter download mode or recovery. I'm within in my manufacturer warranty period. If I return it to T-mobile in order to receive an immediate replacement, how likely is it that samsung would consider it Out of Warranty due to rooting and what not?
Not sure how warranty works but you can try it. I've heard that sometimes the download screen doesn't pop up but odin recognizes ot. Try that before anything.
You root you void warrenty. Unless you flashed a different model rom you can most likely bring it back to life.

Follow 1 of many of the boot loader debricking guides. They should work.
So just like that gentlemen, my SGT 7 Plus seems to be giving me trouble. It randomly shut off today and then wouldn't boot up again until I tried about 7 or 8 times. The tablet itself is great and I had no complaints with the build quality. I'm guessing it's just a lemon; will get it replaced.
Just wondering if I can ask if there's some way to unroot the device. I'm guessing I can just replace the stock recovery by using the back-up that was made during the CWM flash.
I think you could also just do a restore via kies.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
Thanks! I'll just wait for some more suggestions before I go ahead. I've never used KIES before to be honest. All my previous devices have been HTC. I bought a Galaxy S II and never looked back.
How exactly do you restore via KIES? Is there something I should know about at the risk of soft-bricking it?

use odin3 to restore one of the stock images that are posted in the development section. there are instructions there. I've done it at least 10 times - works fine
Thanks! Gary suggested I do the same. Good to know it works.
is there any visual mark like yellow or blue triangle on the boot screen (like other samsung device do) on GT7+ that saying our device has been flashed?
I heard samsung has a flash counter, and Im afraid if I flash even if it's stock firmware (if the counter truly exist and visually appear) the warranty will be void...
Could somebody confirm this? I'd like to avoid complications with returning the device..

Why would there be complications? Its the stock rom, any flashing is STILL the stock rom. if you boot up odin it will say no to custom binary download and also samsung official. You should be good.

Nothing that I can see, but I am no expert. I don't know what would be indicated when and if we get custom roms, but the stock ROM flashing does not appear to be flagging anything. Just as a fair business practice I don't see Samsung denying service/warranty for loading the firmware THEY provide. Custom, yes. Stock, no.
Dumb question.
Rooting still voids warranty here correct?

Can root be obtained on a sumsung device without unlocking?
My tf700 could be rooted, and then unlocked if you wanted. THis would be nice, cause you could root, but if needing to send it in, you could remove the root.

Yes. Samsung devices can usually be fully returned to stock.
The bootloader is fully unlocked, with the exception of the flash counter which tracks how many times you've flashed custom recoveries or kernels in download mode. However, on most other devices it is now known how to reset that counter - fairly sure we'll be able to reset this one as well. It's top of my priorities list.
Officially rooting voids your warranty, but that policy may be illegal in the United States due to the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.
I'm really liking the looks of this! :good:
So glad I returned my TF700 for this beauty. It's supposed to be here by UPS within the next hour. :fingers-crossed:
Because Samsung devices have Odin you can almost always return to 100% stock unless u really mess something up. If entropy figures out the counter reset for us then we will really be set. Then if you need to go back to stock for a warranty claim you should be OK as long as it powers on and can get to download mode.

And if you really mess something up I've heard that 5 seconds in a microwave oven is enough so that the repair center won't be able to tell if the device have been rooted or not...

Counter reset is a go - I'm going to release tonight since that's a critical feature, although until I fix the wifi derpiness people will probably want to flash back to a stock kernel afterwards. (e.g. flash custom recovery, flash custom kernel, reset counter, flash stock kernel, keep custom recovery.)
I was rooted and made the mistake of accepting the latest OTA update, which I assume was the new and devious 4.3. The update process seemed to work fine, but on reboot, phone is now freezing at the white Verizon logo screen.
My boot sequence looks like this: "SAMSUNG ([lock pic] Custom)" -> "SAMSUNG GALAXY S III" on black -> Swirly SAMSUNG logo on black -> Verizon animation on white -> HANG at indefinitely repeating few-frame loop animation of shining Verizon logo on white background.
I can get to Download mode - it looks like this:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
*NO* mention of Warranty Bit.
Does this mean I am still on 4.1.2 and not dreaded 4.3 Knox? I don't want to screw up and accidentally brick this thing.
Unfortunately I have crappy notes from my original rooting, so I don't know if I had a simple root or custom ROM or custom bootloader or what. I know I have CF-Auto-Root-d2vzw-d2vzw-schi535.tar.md5, VRBMB1_Bootchain.tar.md5, and VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 in my work folder, and I was only rooting so I could use SGS3 Easy UMS so I likely did whatever method was needed for that.
How can I get back to functional? Stock or custom, I don't care, but with all the bricking dangers I'm reading about after this new OTA update I just want to proceed extra carefully. Also I'd really like to not have to wipe the phone with a factory reset or anything like that.
Thanks for your help!

You got lucky. For some reason your boot chain didn't flash so it's still unlockable.
You need to flash this file in Odin:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196
Using section 5 of this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
Then root and unlock with casual:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825
Then download ez unlock 1.2 and verify it's unlocked.
Then you're good to go again. Install a custom rom and never accept an Ota again.
As far as wiping your phone goes, you can't really do much about that, this is pretty much a last resort.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It's a nice write up Badusername..:good:
I just want to add that if you want to keep stock rooted, just make sure you disabled OTA. Like Badusername mentioned if you decided to flash custom rom then you don't have to worry about OTA.
If that's everything in download mode, then you are still on 4.1.2. If you want to try retaining your /sdcard data, then you could try Odin flashing the no-wipe VRBMB1 image.
If you would like to start clean and wipe away /sdcard, then Odin flash this VRBMF1 4.1.2 stock image. You would need to root and unlock in both cases. DO NOT accept the 4.3 OTA in either case.
Edit: ninja'd lmao...badly
Thanks! I am operational again with the No-Wipe flash. Whew!
Unfortunately, it looks like I lost all my text messages though. That was one of the main things I had been hoping to preserve, to keep a record of some conversations. Unless there's something I'm missing and they might still be lurking somewhere?
My photos survived and it looks like apart from a few settings it's mostly unwiped. Cool! Glad I didn't ruin it. Now I can try a custom 4.3 or something else if I want, but for now I'm just glad to have it working again.
This happened to me after flashing VZW-I535VRUCML1-20131220083128 instentionally to return back to stock.
after flashing with odin in PDA mode, the samsung 'custom' screen came on then the loop on the white logo.

No problem. Idk why custom would be there unless you tried flashing something pre-4.3 in Odin beforehand? Odin flashing the VRUCML1 tar would wipe everything else off the phone in terms of rom and root. It doesn't affect anything unless you plan on doing a warranty replacement.
