[Q] Why can't I play youtube videos while tethering. - HTC One S

Ok, so when I tether to my computer using Wifi-Tehter for Root, I can do everything thing but watch youtube videos if I have a different user agent applied to my Browser. I use Firefox, and everything in firefox works except videos under 720p on Youtube. 720+ nd higher videos work fine. This is a recent problem, been using my phone to tether to the web for a while now since campus internet is god-awful.
Am I ther only one having this problem, and is there any solution?
The only other programs that doen't work would be the Store and community pages of steam. It comes up with that Tmobile hotspot shield thing.

Probably not the fault of the phone, since your phone does tether obviously and sends/receives packets so that can't be the problem. Try updating flash & then try another browser. That would be the solution for yt videos problem.
But steam issue is prolly somekind of protection of t-mobile.

Updating flash and trying a different browser doesn't work. I am experience the same issue as the OP.

did you guys ever figure this out??

Stock tmobile roms force tethering through pcweb.tmobile.com. if your on a stock room,. Try adding an additional apn and use that if that's the case.

I am on a CM rom. Stock rom doesn't seem to have this problem with me but it is also a bit more unreliable when it comes to tethering. Have we figured out how to remove the pcweb apn?

Solution FOUND? Yes
I was having the same issue as OP while tethering my SAMSUNG Galaxy NOTE. Tried the APN Backup and Restore app procedure with tethering apn fix with no luck.
Here is my solution -
BROWSER: Opera (stock latest version; no UA addon or modifications)
YOUTUBE PROXY: bestyoutubeproxy .info
Now I can watch all YouTube videos <720p otherwise tmo-blocked on regular YouTube site. Try it out. If you find a better solution please share. Thanks!

Modified Flash still no Hulu.

Posted this in General but did not hear anything. I dont mean to spam. Just looking for a solution.
For those who have an android phone running froyo your probably aware that hulu had blocked their site from android users. Generally in the past there were methods around this which involved installing a modified flash.apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054
Okay so I went ahead and removed the previously installed flash apk (use root explorer to do it) then I use adb to install it. The next step involved using the debug mode in the browser to make our seem like it is a desktop. Well when I type about:debug in my browser and go into the settings there is no option to change it to desktop. I only see these options:
So my question is, how the heck do we get hulu working?! When I used skyfire to and switched it to the desktop view, it said I didn't have flash installed. Any ideas?
update:
okay so i found a thread on XDA that seemed to get me a lil further but not where i wanna be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...794512&page=12
this thread suggest that you just install the latest flash.apk and just replace the lib file they give u with the one that comes preinstalled. doing that gets me an error on hulu:
"Unfortunately Hulu is not supported on your platform. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Before, I just got an error saying that they are gonna bring hulu plus to android but thats about it. yes i changed it to desktop and even tried it on skyfire. nothing.
anyone?

Ive gone through the same steps ( own a nexus one and had hulu running fine) ran into the same issues on the tab. Hulu is on it, they dont want mobile browsing on the site without paying. Channelsurfing.net and atdhe.net work on the tab just fine.

Thanks for the sites but unfortunately it doesn't have my anime. I'm following a new series and its only available through funamation which posts everything on hulu. Would really love to get this working.

[Q] BBC iPlayer

It has just been released to the market....but only plays back over Wifi.
Just wondering whether it would be possible to spoof the app into believing that the route was Wifi when it was actually 3G?
Cheers
If I could see it on the market it would be a start.
Running TastyGingerbread 2.0 on my Hero
Here's the link
https://market.android.com/details?id=bbc.iplayer.android
i cant install it on my cm7 powered g2. doesnt show up in market.
We need someone to post the original apk.
Or we also need someone to fool it into not caring what country it's in. Haha
A friend with a stock UK HTC Desire HD just installed it and sent me the link .. it doesn't show up for me.
If anyone can post the apk would be great full
Here you go...

It installs itself to /data/app/
I've tried it out, it works but the sound is out of sync for me.
Also is there any chance that the Iplayer app could be spoofed into thinking it was in the UK even though you are in the US

This.
Might we be able to remove it's check for location?
Or is it using the same check the website uses, and since we can't edit the website, we can't do this?
Thank GOD the BBC have finally done it!! Downloading now
Woah is it that bad? 2 and a half star rating!
APK if needed: http://db.tt/CgCD9fu
The WiFi check is done locally in the application - which is really just a fancy interface around a flash player.
If you know how to edit an APK, you need to edit bbc/iplayer/android/util/ConnectivityStatus.smali, changing line 126 from return v2 to return v4
v4 contains the wifi connection type value so the app will always think you're connected via wifi.
Hey Zibby,
Any chance you can post the mod'd apk?
doesnt work for me.. im in florida (usa) only works within the uk.. any fix for this?
so this doesnt work in the us?
Out currently doesn't work in the US but hopefully the smart folks at xda will figure a way around that

Will post it later today when i have some time - it appears the UK check is done "locally" too. I *think* it sends a request to the BBC and that returns if the IP is in the UK or not. Question is, do the BBC protect the streams or not? (Can anyone outside the UK access the streams?)
EDIT: It seems my modified iplayer app continues to download what you were watching if you just press the back button to "exit" out of the app and churns through the data - can someone check a non-modified version to see if it does it too?

Just had a look using droidstats, and it does appear that the app does the same over wifi. My wifi data usage pretty much stopped when I killed Iplayer.
Just wondered if any progress has been made with this?

I'm guessing iPlayer doesn't protect streams as my cousin, using a VPN, is able to stream iPlayer to the UAE. Hope this helps.

Google Talk with Video (Thanks to Paul and BluechipJ)

Hey guys,
Previously I tried installing Google Talk w/ Video on J's CM7 to no avail. However, now that we have the official GB from SE we can now install it and I can confirm that it is working on our X10s. I know there is no front facing camera, but it's still a cool feature to have. This feature is supposed to be only for the 2.3.4 update but it can be yours if you have root. Much thanks to developer (Paul from MoDaco) for creating this installer and BluechipJ for making the youtube installation guide.
More information is in the description on the youtube video.
Shortlink to directly download the installer onto your phone (visit this in the browser, on your phone): http://jp1.ca/googlevideoinstall
Thanks Again Paul from MoDaco and BluechipJ!
NOTE: I've tried a few zips from the below thread for non wifi video function but it didn't work. If anyone is able to get it to work let me know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
(Searched around our forum to see if this was up or not but isn't so I'm posting it, I will delete it if it is a reposted thread)
Does this version only work on WiFi then? Even non-video chat?

I get FC when trying to call or start video-chat with someone.
I am on WiFi.
Weird, I wonder why that is. I installed it on both of my X10s. One running rooted stock and the other Wolf's version. Both of them work fine. I noticed that we have to allow video and voice chats once you sign into talk. You probably already did it but for those that haven't yet press your picture icon and then it will go to a update status area and you can click it there.

I like the new UI and I probably wouldn't have used voice or video ever,
but I hate it when something FCs and I don't know why!!!!
Anyway, thanks a lot, good find!
video fc's for me as well on wifi
I've tried voice chat on gtalk with 3G and it works. But I haven't try video chat on 3G yet.
Edit:
I have just tried video chat on 3G. It works for me. I am using Stock GB and talk1.3.nowifi.v2-signed.zip file

@Blisslove - I tried installing that version and for some reason it didn't work. I will try again.
UPDATE: Wolfbreak has implemented the Google Talk w/ Video in his new ROM. Can confirm it is working but I haven't tried it out over 3G yet.

I flashed it via XRecovery. I did mount everything in XR before I flashed it. When you make a video call over 3G, the other side person need to wait for 5 or 10 sec and than click accept.
I think it's depend on the 3G speed sometimes line drops. But I didn't get any FC

I know this is pretty old, but I downloaded and installed the apk. It asked for root privelages and was given them. It removed my previous version of Talk, and that's all it did. It just sites there at the screen with the picture of the guy. I've restarted the phone and even tried it again, but nothing. Now I'm stuck with now google talk at all. I'm rooted on 2.3.3. Any help?
Nevermind. Evidently debugging mode needs to be turned on for it to install properly. Got it now. I wish this had an option just for voice and no video like the ICS version.
hay any help here
!!!
i installed this as in video
on my x10 fxp107
and after the restart the phone keep rebooting
even after wipe every thing and install the rom again

Thanks a lot for this post!

Stock browser wont connect to mobile network

Sorry if this was already a question but I'm on the app and itdoesnt have thread search. (Which is stupid). But I just noticed today that my stock browser wont work. Web apps do and so does Firefox, and it works on wifi but not the mobile network. I like the stock browser and would like to still use it. J really would like to avoid a full wipe though. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks in advance.

try to wipe cache/data and fix permission, see if it works.

Problem with All Web Browsers

I keep having internet connection problems when using web browsers, let me be more specific:
I am running a nightly on Cyanogenmod Official Teamchopsticks 10.1. I don't think the rom really matters. When I try to browse to any page on both Google Chrome, Dolphin and Stock, I get "this webpage is not available" but only sometimes. I can't predict when or when it won't work, but it doesn't seem to work most of the time. What's really odd is internet works in all apps, and I can even search google in the browser or use Google Now, but say I try to go to http://www.google.com, nope, no connection. I have this problem on multiple Wifi Networks and on LTE.
I'm very confused on what this could be, any tips?
did u read this sticky Read This b4 posting | THE MOST Common Questions Answered HERE specifically q.24 if u tried returning to stock
did you try reflashing radio, howto is in the 1stop sticky in the radio section
would it really be the radio if the internet still works in app, just not browsers?

usually no, but if you tried restoring to stock and that didnt help its worth a shot
I'll have a look, thanks
I had a look, and it actually seems to be the XDA app. I load the XDA app and it says it can't connect, and then suddenly all other apps on the device can't get internet.

weird, is that from a backup or fresh install, I usually suggest fresh but personally use backups unless I encounter problems
I just reinstalled the app, and still had the same problem, this is really odd, I wonder how this is happening.
