Problem with All Web Browsers - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I keep having internet connection problems when using web browsers, let me be more specific:
I am running a nightly on Cyanogenmod Official Teamchopsticks 10.1. I don't think the rom really matters. When I try to browse to any page on both Google Chrome, Dolphin and Stock, I get "this webpage is not available" but only sometimes. I can't predict when or when it won't work, but it doesn't seem to work most of the time. What's really odd is internet works in all apps, and I can even search google in the browser or use Google Now, but say I try to go to http://www.google.com, nope, no connection. I have this problem on multiple Wifi Networks and on LTE.
I'm very confused on what this could be, any tips?

did u read this sticky Read This b4 posting | THE MOST Common Questions Answered HERE specifically q.24 if u tried returning to stock
did you try reflashing radio, howto is in the 1stop sticky in the radio section

would it really be the radio if the internet still works in app, just not browsers?

usually no, but if you tried restoring to stock and that didnt help its worth a shot

I'll have a look, thanks

I had a look, and it actually seems to be the XDA app. I load the XDA app and it says it can't connect, and then suddenly all other apps on the device can't get internet.

weird, is that from a backup or fresh install, I usually suggest fresh but personally use backups unless I encounter problems

I just reinstalled the app, and still had the same problem, this is really odd, I wonder how this is happening.

Google Now....so let me get this straight, for this to work...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8ePUYp6HPU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
So for my phone to work similar to the phone in the video, with it "popping up" first display result instead of the stupid browser.
I have to:
1) Freeze Browser
2) Change settings to "google.com"
3) Use US Voice
4) PROFIT???
Why can't we just have a simple google now that works without the freezing of the browsers? I'd like it to popup whenever I ask it something once, not direct me to the browser. Its just a pain, when your using Google Now and also want to browse something and you have to unfreeze the app....
Is their a work around yet?
ROM: Adam G JellyBelly 0.4.3, stock kernal
I'm sorry but I'm not too sure of what your trying to say. Please rephrase it?

According to everyone here, for us to use Google Now like shown in the youtube video as per OP. We have to
freeze browser (using titanium backup), change setting of language to "US English" (to not get that robotic UK voice) and redirect the search queries in the settings to "google.com" instead of "google.ca". It's just alot of steps to take to get this to work properly.
Essentially, If i do not do the above steps and use Google Now,
if i ask for "tallest building in the world" It will show me a list of browser searches....which is why Browser.apk is freezed to disable that feature.
Hope this helps clarify things..
I don't have to freeze browser or anything? I get the cards for searches. Are you running a ICS or JB rom?

Its JB, AdamG's rom. I get the browser searches as if I was searching in a browser...I want cards...
edit** ah, it seems like the "cards feature" only works for specific type of questions for me...more indepth questions sends me to a browser search...thats normal? and the voice doesnt speak back to me...how do i get that working?

[Q] XDA homepage is looking weird.

Hi, I have been getting this 'weird look' for the XDA-developer (dot) com homepage. I tried both (the latest stable) chrome and (latest stable) firefox. It has been like this for about a week now. All other pages (portal, forum, wiki, etc) look normal but just the homepage is seemingly broken.
The moment I signed up to answer the question, the homepage is back to normal now. It is now back to normal on firefox too.
What freakish sorcery is this? My intention with this query is more of curiosity. Why does this happen? It is also happening with the dell.com (worldwide) website. What is technically (possibly) going wrong behind the scenes here?
Thanks in advance. :good:
I have the same issue. I don't know about Firefox, but on chrome you just have to click the shield icon in the address bar and click on whatever option comes up there (I can't remember exactly what it says but it should be fairly obvious) and it should sort refresh the page in the correct layout. Annoyingly, AFAIK you're going to have to do this every time you visit the portal.

I haven't been getting this issue, but I've seen it before.
I'm not a web developer, but maybe CSS style information not loading correctly ?
When I get this issue, refreshing the page usually works for me. I get it when our connection lags, too - and doesn't load everything (er, I think that's what's going on, anyway).
That fixed the error!

Thanks! That fixed the error. Wow! So its cause Chrome detects xda-dev homepage having 'insecure content'. I hope xda site admins do something about this soon cause its super annoying!

+1, I think it may be something to do with one of the plugins I have installed, since on another laptop on chrome there seems to be no issue.
Excellent Suggestion!

You were right. Its being caused by the 'HTTPS Everywhere' extension. When I disable, it, the page loads correctly. I had that installed on my firefox too. I hope XDA soon moves their complete website to HTTPS. The extension doesn't seem to have any settings where I can acknowledge an exception.

Of course, I have the same plugin installed I CBA to disable/uninstall it right now, but at least I know what's causing the issue.
Chrome+XDA Forum - Weird look
Since a couple of days I have the forum being displayed as following in Chrome:
In Firefox everything is as usual.

Stock browser wont connect to mobile network

Sorry if this was already a question but I'm on the app and itdoesnt have thread search. (Which is stupid). But I just noticed today that my stock browser wont work. Web apps do and so does Firefox, and it works on wifi but not the mobile network. I like the stock browser and would like to still use it. J really would like to avoid a full wipe though. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Can't log in with XDA app or tapatalk on android

Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone can help me fix this issue. Only started occurring today for some reason after a reboot.
Basically I'm logged in to XDA with the app, however I can't reply or view notifications etc as it comes up with an error "security error (user may not have permission to access this feature)"
The same error occurs when I try with tapatalk.
Strangely though I'm still getting notifications like before, I just can't view them when I open the apps.
I can log in with no problems using tapatalk on my iPad and using web browser.
Tried clearing cache, reinstalling apps, wiping app data and reboot with no success.
Is there any way to get these working again?
Also, this doesn't happen when I'm on wifi. I searched these forums and google and found one post from 2011 saying to uncheck 3g compatibility in settings but I can't find that setting anywhere in the app or in general phone rings

Same issue, i thought at first it may have been redirects through tapatalk servers breaking. Disabled those, with crappalins. After doing that it persisted and then found links from 2012/13 where the problem existed and they said that any links that involved search would be disabled via applications to help server load(as they were under heavy load)
I can't confirm as nobody else is talking about it but I'm still effected on/off. Hard linked threads like "Q&A" of any given device will work but things that require a search like "participated" for your username don't generally work.
Not a solution, but sharing of sufferage.

Do you also have the same problem with the XDA app? I find it really strange that this behaviour occurs over 2 apps.
It's also started occurring intermittently now ; may work completely fine for 3 days then it breaks for a couple of days.
I don't use XDA app but it's not the app. All times I've read of it both apps are effected. Its server side whether mobile portal overload or intentional dispersement of traffic by server Admins.

I have a somewhat similar problem, I can't seem to use this app while on my home wifi, but if I connect to my mobile network (Verizon) the app loads and works perfectly. My home wifi always causes the app to say failure to load, even though everything else with my home wifi works. Ive tried clearing data, uninstalling/reinstalling. No luck.

First of all, you revived a thread from 2014 lol.
And second, around the 30th of November, XDA will have a big update, including the app. So your problem may be fixed by the upcoming update. Read more here : https://www.xda-developers.com/big-changes-to-xda-forums-are-coming-soon/

Browser privacy?

So I am using Chrome, and there are certain websites that it will not allow me to go to, I have tried Firefox, and Opera also, with the same results, so that leads me to think that it is a phone setting somewhere, does anyone know where this might be?
I came from a BLU Life View, and I didn't have any issues with them websites on it.
My first guess is your hosts file.
