Nova Launcher: recovering deleted file from home screen - HTC One S

I do this on impulse: deleting spam from an application that I've installed. Now I want it back, (no solid reason). I really believe it has been deleted for good and there's no cache system for this. Let me know if there is a process to find the orgin or the deleted file. I'll keep using my file manager to search my phone for something until I get a better option.
*browseing the forums found simular post but not the phone, let me know if there is an answer here or you've got one to tell*

Notification Error

I recently tried to start PicselBrowser.exe from a location other than the default one. It failed and I put it back into it`s default directory and uninstalled/reinstalled it. Now every time I turn on my Apache (WM5) it tells me ''Notification Error'' ''Cannot execute /Storage Card/PicselBrowser.exe'' which is the directory that I mentioned that I had failed to start the program from. Does anyone know how I can stop this message? Thanks.
Any ideas?
Does anyone know of a forum somewhere that would be better suited for this question?

Yes, that is a little easy to solve. I had that trouble a while back with another application I was messing with. Here is the solution.
Look into Windows>Start Up folder. In there you will probably see a .lnk file pointing to the OLD PicselBrowser.exe. Since you already moved the OLD PicselBrowser.exe file to a NEW location, then put it back in the same place. Your PPC thinks it is already a NEW file despite the fact that you returned the very same file to its ORIGINAL location. The solution is to replace that .lnk file by creating a shorcut of the NEW PicselBrowser.exe file in another folder, then rename that file to the same name as the one found in Windows>Start Up folder. The next step is a simple cut and paste to replace the lnk file.
The uninstall process probably leaves behind the OLD lnk file or notification to launch the NEW picselbrowser.exe file. So in reality, the lnk file is still searching for the OLD PicselBrowser.exe file. Despite the Uninstall procedure that you performed.
I hope I made it clear for you. Let us know if it works.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I am a newb when it comes to technical PPC stuff. I looked in my startup folder and several others and found the following:
poutlook.lnk
sddaemon.lnk
Services.lnk
SpbMobileShell.lnk
None of these appear to be Picsel Browser, I also looked on my Storage Card, nata. Any other ideas? Thanks again!

Ohhhhhhhhh. I have another thoery and again very simple.
What kind of SD Card are you using? I would guess a 4GB one, isn't it? Basically what is happening is that, the built-in SD Card reader of your PPC is not fast enough to read the entire contents of the SD card when you turn it ON. To solve this issue, there should be an option from within Picsel Browser to delay its startup upon turning your device ON.
An alternative solution is to install Picsel Browser in the Main Memory rather than the SD Card.
Another alternative solution is to use a Lower Memory SD Card, say a 2GB SD Card, for faster read.
As a last resort, if you have MemMaid or a powerful Notifications Manager, just delete the pesky notification manually. Why does Picsel Browser need to be read every time you turn your device ON anyway?
Hope this helps.

Actually, I am running a 2 GB MiniSD Card and to be honest, I dont know why it is trying to activate PicselBrowser.exe each time I turn on the device. Let me clarify that it is not coming on every time that I do a soft reset, it is every time I press the power button on top of the device. Also, I got this same message when I first tried to run PicselBrowser in it's not default location, which is why I moved it back. Why it has been attempting that operation ever since is a complete mystery to me. Thanks for your help though. I would be clueless without you.
I guess the only thing to try now is delete the notification manually using a Notifications manager. BACKUP 1st is the RULE, before deleting an kind of Notifications.
Another extreme solution is Hard Reset and install from scratch. I know sounds horrifying specially if you have tons of stuff.

I'm getting exactly the same error for 'wakeup.exe' for Wisbar Advanced Desktop at the minute, I know that there has been a lot of discussion over at the lakeridge forums but most people have solved the problem by reinstalling several times.
EDIT: i think I may have fixed my problem. try installing picsel browser again without uninstalling it on your pocket pc. See if you get the message about 'all other previous versions will be deleted' just tap yes and continue to install it again. Then see what happens.
(And just as i thought i fixed it, the message appeared again)
I tried to install Picsel Browser over the existing install several times and it did nothing to the error message. I don't know what else to try, any more ideas?
Please, this is really annoying every time I turn on my phone. Any ideas?
I sitll get the same with WAD.
Hey, I fixed this problem simply by copying (NOT CUTTING) the file in question (in my case PicselBrowser.exe) to the directory that it was telling me it could not start from. Hope this helps. Cheers

Delete HTC links in windows start menu

Hi!
How could I delete HTC default links in windows start menu (footprints, music, etc...)
I've tried to delete them from (\windows\start menu\etc...), but when i reboot the phone they are still there !
Many thanks
no one has the same problem ?
thx
To be honest, they don't bother me in the slightest, but I was just able to delete the HTC messaging link, and it's still not reappeared after 2 resets.
I know that some files will be replaced if they're deleted, but these links don't appear to come under that heading, on my phone at least.
Maybe create a sub-folder in the programs folder and just try moving them to there. It may not recreate them unless they're actually deleted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5046612&postcount=54
Like I said, I'm personally not bothered whether they're there or not, but I've just checked that registry entry, and it's set to 1 but I can delete the links and they don't come back.
Weird.
Edit: I take it back. The only that doesn't get recreated is the one I tried as a test - the messaging one. The other 4 (calendar, music, people & twitter) do come back. Never mind!

[Q] Where does android get the installed application list from?

Hello
I was hoping someone could help me out with some info. I'm trying to figure out how to remove items from the installed apps list. There are some apps there that is uninstalled and so trying to uninstall them again just shows an error.
Can I somehow edit the list?
I'm new to android but I am used to Linux and I have root access plus terminal and scripting (python) installed.
It's android 1,6.

You might want to consider what the rules say about posting. It says give appropriate time for people to answer.
I found your post because I have nothing better to do than go one by one through threads. I don't think I has been visible to many people (unless you got a really high views number), but then again might be that the ones who saw simply don't know the answer.
I do not know the answer to your question but all apps that show in the list are either in /data/app/ or in /system/app/ once you delete them from there they are actually uninstalled and removed from that list. Note that /system/app/ is a read only file structure and you need to remount it as RW with terminal or use something like Root Explorer. As always, there is a reason for it to be read only, so you dont mess with it unless you know exactly what you're doing. Apps here are the ones that you cannot normally uninstall.
Look at the date of the first post. Deleting from those folders does not remove apps from the installed apps list. They just show up with a size of zero. Deleted them from the cache too and still no luck. Android must have some kind of file or database with installed app names. Only way to remove apps is to delete them, install them like normal apps and then uninstall them. Someone must know where it actually get the items on the installed apps list from.

I remember when I was removing Motonav from Milestone, in some tutorial there was some xml-scutrctured file containing all that information, but now I can't remember it's name and location, sorry

List of Kindle Fire preinstalled apps

Does anyone have a list of KF apps that came with the device but you cannot easily remove unless rooted - the original link to Facebook for example? I removed some and can't remember what they were. Think I might have created problems for myself so looking to reinstall them and see if it helps.
Currently rooted. After reading all threads, can't get calendars to sync, programs that place picture frames on home screens not working.
Sounds like a wipe to factory defaults would be in order to get you back to square one. Then, start again. My advice would be that rather than removing these apps, rename .apk to .bak in the same directory, or make a folder on /sdcard and move them there. At least you'll know what you removed/renamed.

Thanks, may have to do that, important lesson learned. I think to get the list I may just break into my daughters Christmas present, fire it up and look for myself!

Malware on my phone. How do I remove it?

I have a hand me down phone (Samsung S6 SM-G920V) from my daughter.
It works fine, except for one problem. I found an app install file called porn_hub.apk while looking for a another file. I used "My Files" file browser to look for a lost podcast, and while scrolling the browser's "My Files > Downloads" list, I notice the apk file.
I want to figure out how it got on my phone and then remove it.
Also, how can I figure out if it was installed?
I've read that I might need to root the phone to get admin access to the file. I still use the phone so I don't want to cause myself headaches by rooting it. (I've never rooted a phone before)
Any advice/help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
exe2bin
