Downgrade bootloader Mozart - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi how can i downgrade bootloader version of my HTC 7 Mozart europe STOCK everything bootloader version 5.12... and up to date ROM version.
here is something about it but download link is dead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413694

Hi again,
If you can't find a working link for the SLSPL rom then there are only 2 other methods that you can use to downgrade SPL 5.xxx
1. The goldcard method that I already described to you.
2. Zune restore point method - Restore your device through Zune to a Pre-Mango state. Meaning that you upgraded your device through Zune from a Pre-Mango state to Mango and still have the PC that you used to do it with. This is the process for it.
If you use the restore point method and go back to a NoDo build your SPL will still be 5.12, since Zune doesn't change your SPL. What changes the SPL is the re-update process.
Connect your device to the PC, open Zune, click on phone - settings - update - on the update screen you'll see the restore button. restore your device to NoDo. Once that's finished then start the update process through Zune again. Update the device all the way through 7392,7403 and next comes Mango and that's when the SPL is changed from 5.xxx to 4.xxx. This is the key part thought, The phone will reboot twice, once to change the SPL and once to actually install Mango, once the phone reboots the 2nd time YOU HAVE TO STOP THE UPDATE PROCESS before the final HTC firmware update 7740 is applied otherwise if you apply that your SPL will be changed back to 5.xxx.
Now the devices SPL is 4.xxx and you can flash a stock/shipped Pre-NoDo/NoDo rom via bootloader mode and lower your SPL to at or below 3.xxx (which is required to install XSPL) Once the SPL is downgrade to at or below 3.xxx you can install XSPL= RSPL/HSPL and then flash a custom rom of your choice.
There's a tutorial here too if you need it -

This method won't work because of your devices SPL 5.xxx version.
Honestly the goldcard method is the easiest and safest method to use and won't harm your device.

What you can do is flash the the SLSPL rom and then check the SPL version after the flash. You might have to flash a Pre-NoDo or NoDo specific rom afterwards to downgrade the SPL to at or below 3.xxx

where can i find that NODO ROM if spl version is not downgraded, is it ok ruu_mozart_htc_europe_1.23.401.06_5.51.09.06_22.30.50_release.exe?

Hope we find a solution. There's three of us at least now, me Gizmo and Sangorr. Surely there are others in Europe that have always taken any automatic Zune update to get out phones to the latest versions?

Yeah the 1.23.401.06 rom will work and downgrade the SPL to 1.23.

As i understand:
1: Flash RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_5.11.401.01_SLSPL_Signed_by_ ansar (without closing bootloader execute 2)
2: Flash ruu_mozart_htc_europe_1.23.401.06_5.51.09.06_22.30 .50_release.exe
3: Boot your ROM??
4: Flash XSPL?
5: Flash Custom ROM
is there any problem doing this i mean are those RUU right for .401 region and is there a chance to Brick the device(i know there is chance like losing connectiong to device while flashing etc..)?

Yeah that's pretty much it... It's pretty easy.
You shouldn't have any problems and don't have to worry about bricking your device. The SLSPL rom is safe to flash and once that's done and you flash the 1.23 rom just make sure the SPL is downgraded to at or below 3.xxx and your safe in installing XSPL. Install rspl first and make sure the bootloader screen says RSPL and then install HSPL, make sure HSPL installed successfully too and then flash a custom rom of your choice.
Let me know how it goes!

I'll give this a go too, thanks for advice.

Is this because my phone was bought from Orange UK and that means the 401 in my SPL number is actually fake?

Yeah more than likely.
What's the devices Firmware Revision Number?

2250.21.51201.401
But I believe that 401 is masking the real number because I unbranded it to rush the NoDo update back in Jan 2011

Right... The device wouldn't be a true .401 Europe device then and as you found out the SLSPL method won't work.
The devices real CID/Firmware revision number would be a .061
The next easiest method to downgrade the devices SPL would be to use the goldcard method -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597837
You can use this rom and extract the ruu_signed.nbh from it and rename it to MOZAIMG.nbh for the goldcard method -

Try the latest version of SuperOneClick with the zergRush option. With a date of Aug 2011 on the hboot, it might be old enough that SuperOneClick might work.

Does not seem to work :
Unlock using HTCDEV, then flash a recovery of choice and then root using it.
Maybe you could temproot (without using HTCdev), maybe someone else could show you how to do that.

I have exactly the same HBOOT details on my Desire S, which I purchased SIM free from Carphonewarehouse in the UK.
First you need to 'unlock' it. The easiest way is to use HTCdev unlock bootloader at
http://htcdev.com/bootloader
Register and follow the steps. The Desire S is not listed so choose 'All other supported models' at the bottom of the list.
When it tells you to download the Android SDK, don't ! Instead download and extract AndroidControl v1.3.1 which is explained at the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049115
When you extract it it will create a folder. Inside you will find the three files/applications that you need to complete the rest of the steps, ie adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe.
On submitting the details you will get the unlock_code.bin sent to your email address. Then just follow the rest of the steps and the phone will be unlocked.
Recheck the HBOOT screen and it should now show as Unlocked. However it will still show S-ON. I haven't figured the rest out yet.
I have come from a Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800 where once your phone is unlocked you can flash a custom pre-rooted ROM with ODIN.
I can't figure out what the flashing tool for HTC phones is. Anyone help?

Thanks , man. I am still surprised it's a lot of work to do a root .....
Well, HTC seem to be very helpful on their site in providing the means to unlock the bootloader so that "users can customise their phones".
I am not sure what all this S-OFF and S-ON is all about. If it stopped users customising their phones then surely HTC would also provide the means to S-OFF the phone? So what is the advantage/need to S_OFF?
I am bit confused and the FAQs don't seem to help. My phone is unlocked but still S-ON. Surely I just need to root it now with Superoneclick?

You need Security-OFF to flash hboot (bootloader) or different version of radio.
With htcdev bootloader unlock you gain the freedom to modify the Recovery, Kernel and System.

yes this should work
Tried Superoneclick and the same happens as described above. It gets so far and then stops.
Tried Revolutionary and it starts and then says "Hboot 2.00.0002 not yet supported".
Gingerbreak doesn't appear to support 2.00.002 either.
I guess the latest Desire S can't be rooted yet by an exploit.
If HTC says unlocking the bootloader enables me to install a custom ROM, then how do I do it? Do I use a program and if so which one, or do I load a zimage onto the SD card and do it that way?
Also I can't find SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL mentioned in the STOCK ROMs. Does anyone know who PVT is intended for? Europe, India etc etc ? If I do intall a custom ROM I want to be able to flash back to a Stock ROM.
Sorry for asking so many questions.
bjlabuk
There are sticky guides that will give you all the info.
Hint (as already mentioned above): htcdev unlock allows you to:
1) flash custom recovery
2) flash custom rooted /all of them are/ ROM with the new custom recovery
3) flash the Kernel of the new custom ROM
4) be a happy rooted user
Thanks, I was reading all the info for noobies you refer to, but am still confused. Guess the HTC is alot more complicated than my previous Samsung Galaxy 3 which I rooted and flashed custom ROMs to numerous times without problem.
I will keep reading!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390496&page=3
Hope this helps. also keep in mind that this only roots, does not s-off ur phone so the rom flashing process is a little more tricky but the solution is also mentioned in the development forums
LE: also, to achieve s-off this might come in handy as it downgrades your hboot and then i guess u can use revolutionary or any other tool to s-off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318919
After you are s-off go here for instructions on how to reflash the engineering hboot 2.00.0002
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236890
Please read the threads carefully and ask when something is not clear as an unrooted phone is always better than a bricked one. i know that it seems complicated as s**t but it really isn't. if you are attentive and follow the given instructions everything should be fine.
Good luck!
Thanks,
I have followed the first link and my phone is now rooted, but still S-ON, as you say.
I will read the other links.
Thanks again

[Q]nelp me to flash RSPL on HTC surround

Need help as I'm doing it for the first time
I have Radio 5.69.09.05a_22.50.50 and bootloader 4.3.2250
I want to flash RSPL and then DFT ROM, but as I see I need to downgrade bootloader to something like 1.52
If I flash Radio 5.66.09.09_22.46.50 from Mondrian Cingular 1.52.502.04 file on my device , will it brick it? can I flash 5.66 radio over 5.69? to downgrade bootloader?
or what should I do to get any Custom ROM?
You should actually be able to downgrade SPL 4.x directly (3.1 or lower is needed to install HSPL, which then lets you flash a custom ROM). Have you tried just rolling back to an old restor point (NoDo, perhaps) or flashing just the SPL (you can do this using the RUU) of an old ROM?
I downgraded my SPL from 4.5 to 3.1 by doing this. I'm still using a stock ROM, but until I install an update that overwrites the SPL, I know I *can* install R/HSPL any time I want to.

I restored with zune to NoDo and bootloader is still 4.3
I'm afraid to flash directly as it was said by Cotulla that flashin 4.xx MANGO `SPL-s will brick the phone. so can I just flash a lower radio version that downgrades the SPL, or I need a goldcard method?
With 4.x you should be able to use a radio/SPL image to downgrade. It's still installed using RUU, but you don't need a full ROM. There's even a configuration that won't wipe the phone when you flash it (obviously not useful for a full ROM, but I found it handy when I was trying different methods but didn't want to need to restore a backup to get my data back).
I pulled the download for my phone (radio + SPL pre-loaded in a RUU set up to not wipe the data) from the HD7-specific forum.
Dear Mr. GoodDayToDie
Could you please point us to where we can get the RUU file for the Surround device.
I have the Exact situation as Mr. DJSave Have.

Yes it will work...but there is a process to it.
I used the Zune restore point/backup to downgrade my SPL from 5.10.
Basically if you use the restore point and go back to NoDo your SPL will still be 5.12, since Zune doesn't change your SPL. What changes the SPL is update process.
What you have to do is, restore your device and then start the update process through Zune again. Update the device all the way through 7392,7403 and next comes Mango and that's when the SPL is changed from 5.xxx to 4.xxx. This is the key part thought, The phone will reboot twice, once to change the SPL and once to actually install Mango once the phone reboots the 2nd time YOU HAVE TO STOP THE UPDATE PROCESS before the final HTC firware update is applied otherwise your SPL will be changed back to 5.xxx.
Now you can flash a stock/shipped rom via bootloader mode and lower your SPL to at or below 3.xxx, install RSPL/HSPL and the flash a custom rom. The whole process will take about 45 mins to an hour.
There's a tutorial here too if you need it -

Ok you have made a very common mistake (that I have made once too, but then there was no ICS RUU, so I was forced to do some mumbo-jumbo) - not lowering your version, which is a must-have in the downgrade process
Anyway you have now much easier path now:
1) Run the ICS RUU
2) unlock the bootloader via htc-dev
3) flash a custom recovery
4) root it manually or with the AIO tool (temp root will not work)
5) lower your main version using the misc_version binary
6) relock the bootloader
7) run the RUU
8) disable the update check in the Settings, otherwise if upgraded the SC will spot the relocked bootloader
Good luck

I am afraid you are out of options. There is no way to lower your version without root.
If you are lucky and still have the custom recovery you can use the misc_version there (it has root). Otherwise you cannot flash anything with this version, only the ICS RUU. You cannot use Revolutionary again when your OS does not boot
EDIT: as I said I have made the same mistake and now my hardware buttons are almost broken and I cannot take it to a repair due to my Unlocked bootloader. But when you downgrade to 1.28.x or 1.47.x there is no "RELOCKED" flag shown in the booltoader screen. So if you keep the older version and do not update there is a chance that the SC will not check it.

Well as far as I remember the ICS RUU disclaimer says that it drops the warranty on the software side. If you have a hardware problem it should be acknowledged and repaired. But you have to recheck that.

What are you talking about? He can just use tacoroot. Either way, he was S-OFF, so he can just S-OFF again, change miscversion, and then roll back to S-ON.

Official RUU 6.21.605.3 EXE/ZIP

**IF you are looking for the RUU to downgrade while s-on to use sunshine you want the blue links below!***
Below is the official RUU. This zip can be flashed via fastboot/RUU mode or via SD card. It is NOT rooted. This will be especially useful for users who want to relock/s-on in order to sell or return their phone. Make sure you download to this software/firmware combo using my other pre-rooted version first!!!!! Once you have your bootloader locked and tamper flag cleared you can turn s on. Then you can flash this RUU to remove any/all traces of root. This ruu will NOT wipe internal storage or data. This RUU is NOT ROOTED!
If you use fastboot/adb method i recommend using this HTC version of fastboot/adb. It's taylored specifically for our phones by HTC. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001612150
Remember - You cannot downgrade firmware unless s-off!!!
Though you should be able to switch between the two 5.0.1 RUU while s-on!
Rename zip to 0P6BIMG.zip ***Make sure you don't add a 2nd .zip to the file name as windows 8 has file extensions for known file types hidden by default!** Depending on your current firmware level you may need to flash the official hboot download below using the same method as the RUU.
Option 1
For Marshmallow
Download DOTTAT_VZWM8_S_ON_6_0.exe and doubleclick. Allow file to extract and install dependencies and then follow on screen prompts.
For Lollipop
Download DOTTAT_VZWM8_S_ON_5.0.1_RUU.exe and doubleclick. Allow file to extract and install dependencies and then follow on screen prompts.
All others
Download DOTTAT_M8_444_S_ON_FUU.zip. Extract and double click on ARUwizard.exe. Follow prompts to update your phone.

Option 2
Copy 0P6BIMG.zip to root of a physical SD formatted to fat32. No exfat! No internal storage! Must be external SD formated to fat32!
Reboot phone to bootloader and follow prompts once RUU is detected by phone.
Option 3
Fastboot RUU mode . This method assumes you have a working ADB/Fastboot directory on your PC. Download RUUish file and place in your working fastboot/adb directory. Boot your phone to fastboot mode and connect to PC. Issue the following commands.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
###while in this mode your phone will display an HTC logo on the screen
fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
##while in this mode you will see an HTC logo on the screen and a green status bar across the bottom of the screen. When command output ##completes it may say reboot required to flush etc... if that's the case issue a "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command and restart option 1 again.
example
## assuming flash completes and no further flushing/reboots are requested from the cmd output you can now reboot IF you simply wish to reboot the system you can issue "fastboot reboot" which will reboot system.
## expect a good 5 minute plus first boot!

I believe you have to downgrade first using the 4.4.2 pre-rooted stock ruu he had put put together. Then lock remove tampered flag and then s-on. Once there you can flash this official ruu.
This will land you on stock out of the box 4.4.2
Is this an actual Official RUU leak from HTC or is this something you compiled yourself?

Do you or anyone in the know sharing those steps more specifically? I'm about to undergo warranty screen replacement and need to get things back in shape to avoid dealing with HTC for rooting phone.
If I'm running stock 4.4.2 Clean Rom 8/17 I shouldn't need to downgrade, correct? From there I can run CMD commands and run this RUU, right?
TIA. I haven't kept up with this phone as I have in previous models, just trying to avoid a potential brick situation.
Quick question, I'm returning a 4.4.3 rooted CLNR device back to Big Red, should I RUU the hboot or full package file first? Many thanks!

Hboot as you will want to downgrade that.
so this RUU doesnt work like the ones on the M7 that were official...meaning any firmware, official signed RUU, would wipe, downgrade, and reinstall all in one? (Im not planning to relock/SON)
So to follow how this works
1. Flash @dottat 4.4.2 rooted RUU to downgrade back to 4.4.2
2. Flash the signed HBOOT from link above
3. Flash the official RUU from the link above

If you just wanted to downgrade from a stock Rom you could just simply do steps 2 and 3. They put a switch in the file to not wipe data so your data and apps would remain. An s off user who doesn't like the ota could downgrade that in one shot.
We tested it

Fantastic, thank you for the clarification
Does anyone know if I am on 4.4.2, if we need to downgrade anything, or if we can run the commands to lock bootloader, and enable s-on, then run the ruu file listed above?
Sorry for the almost double post. Trying to get this in order before my 10 days are up.

Downgrade first!!!!
I put the warning in the op you cannot downgrade once s on
If already 4.4.2 you are good as long as your firmware matches.

Forgive my noobie question, can you educate me on what I may possibly need to downgrade too or what I need to be checking for in sys info (or link me to correct downgrade file)? Searched your previous posts but couldn't seem to find the file your are talking about. I basically rooted the phone when I got it 5 months ago and left it as is. Never changed anything from out of box or updated to 4.4.3.
I don't think I need to downgrade anything, but always safe to compare after being away from xda for awhile.

As long as you are still stock and didn't flash any custom firmware beyond the 4.4.2 build you are fine. I put the extra caution out there because if you s on you cannot downgrade. I have a list of m7 users who went s on and somehow had no system installed. This ruu is the only public one which will flash if s on and only if you are at or below this software/firmware level.
I am about to return my m8 to Big Red also. I am on 4.4.3 firmware running Clean Rom and s-off. Do I need to downgrade first Or is that not needed since I am s-off? I was going to flash the RUU via fastboot, lock the bootloader, and then s-on the phone. Is that right? Leaving me stock with no flags?
Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend you lock your boot loader and reboot. Verify its good. Then boot and go into su and do a full unroot. Then boot to boot loader and turn s on.

I forgot that I needed su to lock the bootloader. Will the RUU flash via fastboot with a locked bootloader?
