Official RUU 6.21.605.3 EXE/ZIP - Verizon HTC One (M8)

**IF you are looking for the RUU to downgrade while s-on to use sunshine you want the blue links below!***
Below is the official RUU. This zip can be flashed via fastboot/RUU mode or via SD card. It is NOT rooted. This will be especially useful for users who want to relock/s-on in order to sell or return their phone. Make sure you download to this software/firmware combo using my other pre-rooted version first!!!!! Once you have your bootloader locked and tamper flag cleared you can turn s on. Then you can flash this RUU to remove any/all traces of root. This ruu will NOT wipe internal storage or data. This RUU is NOT ROOTED!
If you use fastboot/adb method i recommend using this HTC version of fastboot/adb. It's taylored specifically for our phones by HTC. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001612150
Remember - You cannot downgrade firmware unless s-off!!!
Though you should be able to switch between the two 5.0.1 RUU while s-on!
Rename zip to 0P6BIMG.zip ***Make sure you don't add a 2nd .zip to the file name as windows 8 has file extensions for known file types hidden by default!** Depending on your current firmware level you may need to flash the official hboot download below using the same method as the RUU.
Option 1
For Marshmallow
Download DOTTAT_VZWM8_S_ON_6_0.exe and doubleclick. Allow file to extract and install dependencies and then follow on screen prompts.
For Lollipop
Download DOTTAT_VZWM8_S_ON_5.0.1_RUU.exe and doubleclick. Allow file to extract and install dependencies and then follow on screen prompts.
All others
Download DOTTAT_M8_444_S_ON_FUU.zip. Extract and double click on ARUwizard.exe. Follow prompts to update your phone.

Option 2
Copy 0P6BIMG.zip to root of a physical SD formatted to fat32. No exfat! No internal storage! Must be external SD formated to fat32!
Reboot phone to bootloader and follow prompts once RUU is detected by phone.
Option 3
Fastboot RUU mode . This method assumes you have a working ADB/Fastboot directory on your PC. Download RUUish file and place in your working fastboot/adb directory. Boot your phone to fastboot mode and connect to PC. Issue the following commands.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
###while in this mode your phone will display an HTC logo on the screen
fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
##while in this mode you will see an HTC logo on the screen and a green status bar across the bottom of the screen. When command output ##completes it may say reboot required to flush etc... if that's the case issue a "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command and restart option 1 again.
example
## assuming flash completes and no further flushing/reboots are requested from the cmd output you can now reboot IF you simply wish to reboot the system you can issue "fastboot reboot" which will reboot system.
## expect a good 5 minute plus first boot!

I believe you have to downgrade first using the 4.4.2 pre-rooted stock ruu he had put put together. Then lock remove tampered flag and then s-on. Once there you can flash this official ruu.
This will land you on stock out of the box 4.4.2

Is this an actual Official RUU leak from HTC or is this something you compiled yourself?

Do you or anyone in the know sharing those steps more specifically? I'm about to undergo warranty screen replacement and need to get things back in shape to avoid dealing with HTC for rooting phone.
If I'm running stock 4.4.2 Clean Rom 8/17 I shouldn't need to downgrade, correct? From there I can run CMD commands and run this RUU, right?
TIA. I haven't kept up with this phone as I have in previous models, just trying to avoid a potential brick situation.

Quick question, I'm returning a 4.4.3 rooted CLNR device back to Big Red, should I RUU the hboot or full package file first? Many thanks!

Hboot as you will want to downgrade that.

so this RUU doesnt work like the ones on the M7 that were official...meaning any firmware, official signed RUU, would wipe, downgrade, and reinstall all in one? (Im not planning to relock/SON)
So to follow how this works
1. Flash @dottat 4.4.2 rooted RUU to downgrade back to 4.4.2
2. Flash the signed HBOOT from link above
3. Flash the official RUU from the link above

If you just wanted to downgrade from a stock Rom you could just simply do steps 2 and 3. They put a switch in the file to not wipe data so your data and apps would remain. An s off user who doesn't like the ota could downgrade that in one shot.
We tested it

Fantastic, thank you for the clarification

Does anyone know if I am on 4.4.2, if we need to downgrade anything, or if we can run the commands to lock bootloader, and enable s-on, then run the ruu file listed above?
Sorry for the almost double post. Trying to get this in order before my 10 days are up.

Downgrade first!!!!
I put the warning in the op you cannot downgrade once s on
If already 4.4.2 you are good as long as your firmware matches.

Forgive my noobie question, can you educate me on what I may possibly need to downgrade too or what I need to be checking for in sys info (or link me to correct downgrade file)? Searched your previous posts but couldn't seem to find the file your are talking about. I basically rooted the phone when I got it 5 months ago and left it as is. Never changed anything from out of box or updated to 4.4.3.
I don't think I need to downgrade anything, but always safe to compare after being away from xda for awhile.

As long as you are still stock and didn't flash any custom firmware beyond the 4.4.2 build you are fine. I put the extra caution out there because if you s on you cannot downgrade. I have a list of m7 users who went s on and somehow had no system installed. This ruu is the only public one which will flash if s on and only if you are at or below this software/firmware level.

I am about to return my m8 to Big Red also. I am on 4.4.3 firmware running Clean Rom and s-off. Do I need to downgrade first Or is that not needed since I am s-off? I was going to flash the RUU via fastboot, lock the bootloader, and then s-on the phone. Is that right? Leaving me stock with no flags?
Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend you lock your boot loader and reboot. Verify its good. Then boot and go into su and do a full unroot. Then boot to boot loader and turn s on.

I forgot that I needed su to lock the bootloader. Will the RUU flash via fastboot with a locked bootloader?

Restore to Stock - losing my mind

I've been trying to restore back to stock for over a day now and still havn't figured it out.
All of the guides start talking about adb or fastboot right in the middle of the guide without any explanation.
Aruwizard keeps saying bootloader version fail when I try to flash whats supposed to be stock rogers rom, but everything i see is telling me to download the one im already using.
1. download rogers ruu.zip
2. get supercid or downgrade follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671135
3. use the windows ruu tool ..... or .... get adb and fastboot installed correctly. google this if you dont know how
4a. for windows ruu tool follow my post in dev section
4b. for adb and fastboot do
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
it will ask u to run the last command again...

Have you relocked your bootloader?
1. make sure fastboot in android is turned off under power.
2. power off device
3. power phone on by holding down the volume down key + pressing power - don't release the volume down key until you see the bootloader screen
4. select fastboot
5. connect phone usb
6. screen should now read fastboot usb in red
7. type fastboot oem lock
Phone might restart back into fastboot can't really remember but now you can run the RUU.
The RUU should be an .exe for the above
im on 1.73 trying to flash reflash 1.73, so i shouldnt need to use super cid (?).
I download the rogers stock rom (PJ83IMG_Evita_UL_Rogers_WWE_1.73.631.1_Radio_0.16a.32.09.06_10.81.32.14L_release_254934_signed.zip)
and I downloaded ARUwizard to flash it.
I keep getting random errors from aruwizard.
ive tried finding adb tools or fastboot, but they all look like they're for specific phones.

Ok you have made a very common mistake (that I have made once too, but then there was no ICS RUU, so I was forced to do some mumbo-jumbo) - not lowering your version, which is a must-have in the downgrade process
Anyway you have now much easier path now:
1) Run the ICS RUU
2) unlock the bootloader via htc-dev
3) flash a custom recovery
4) root it manually or with the AIO tool (temp root will not work)
5) lower your main version using the misc_version binary
6) relock the bootloader
7) run the RUU
8) disable the update check in the Settings, otherwise if upgraded the SC will spot the relocked bootloader
Good luck

I am afraid you are out of options. There is no way to lower your version without root.
If you are lucky and still have the custom recovery you can use the misc_version there (it has root). Otherwise you cannot flash anything with this version, only the ICS RUU. You cannot use Revolutionary again when your OS does not boot
EDIT: as I said I have made the same mistake and now my hardware buttons are almost broken and I cannot take it to a repair due to my Unlocked bootloader. But when you downgrade to 1.28.x or 1.47.x there is no "RELOCKED" flag shown in the booltoader screen. So if you keep the older version and do not update there is a chance that the SC will not check it.

Well as far as I remember the ICS RUU disclaimer says that it drops the warranty on the software side. If you have a hardware problem it should be acknowledged and repaired. But you have to recheck that.

At&t Htc One X 4.2.2 Root

Help im new!
Soo i recently got my htc one x on android jelly bean 4.2.2 from at&t and is there a method or easy root method for this version? 4.2.2, with 5.18? I really want to try and root my phone but i know nothing about messing with all these types of files, and i dont want to risk destroying my phone.
Im not sure if there is already a post or something about this and if it is im sorry, these forums are a bit overwhelming and i am new.
I would very much appeircate any help or info on being able to easily root my htc one x 4.2.2, 5.18 at&t white.
The recent at&t update patched the last exploit for gaining SuperCID in order to unlock the bootloader. Long story short, there's no way for you to root your phone since you took the update. If you had done it before taking the update you'd be fine. You'll have to wait and see if a dev comes up with a new exploit for the new firmware.

Well that sucks because even when i was on 4.1.1 i could not root my stupid phone. There was no easy way to do it on 4.1.1 3.18, and now i cant do crap with this 4.2.2 on 5.18. why would i not be able to root it if other people can root their phones that are on 4.3 and higher like the Htc One.
There is a perfectly easy way to unlock your bootloader on the 3.18 software, it isn't a stupid phone, nor is the exploit hard to achieve, hundreds if not thousands of people have done it. It's as simple as entering a few adb/fastboot commands.
You can't root on 5.18 because the update patched the weakness that was exploited in the 3.18 software/firmware. It takes time for devs to crack these things and the update has only just been released. It's not even sure whether the devs will want to spend any time finding a crack for a phone that's relatively old now. This is why you never take an update without first unlocking/rooting, unless you're comfortable with the fact that you won't be able to (it is a well established fact that updates patch exploits).

I also took the update unaware I would not be able to root again...
Would it be possible to run the stock 3.18 ruu and then root?

It's weird, I tried using the all in one toolkit and was able to unlock the boot loader, get twrp recovery working and flash supersu. The only problem I ran into was when I opened supersu it said the binaries need to update. The first time I updated them and it was fine then the phone shut off and supersu would always need updated when opened...I downloaded titanium backup and was able to get root access before my phone restarted and I had to update supersu again... It is now relocked, obviously, but easy enough to unlock again using the toolkit
You're in a different category because you had gotten SuperCID in the past I assume. That's the main determining factor in whether you can unlock the bootloader. You should be fine as long as you still have SuperCID.
Code:
fastboot oem readcid

Yes it says me CID is 11111111. Why would supersu be acting so funny and constantly telling me to update the binaries...supersu seems relatively useless at this point. do i need supersu to flash a custom ROM?

Lack of research. A working root method exists for 3.18, both a "manual" method and two "Toolkits" for those that can't handle the manual method.
Also, you should never never never install an OTA update unless you know what has been patched, changed, etc. Updates frequently will patch existing root exploits, and therefore leaving you in the spot you find yourself in.
Other devices (such as the One) can be rooted with later firmware, simply because that device has more developer interest. It requires the right talented developer(s) putting in the time and effort to find the exploit method. Its still possible on this device with 5.18. All it takes is the right guy and the proper amount of motivation. But as the device is getting older, and devs are moving to other phones, those chances do get more unlikely.
UPDATE!

It's most likely because your hboot is too new (2.18) and hasn't been included as a compatible hboot in the installer script. You can flash the 2.15 firmware from Turge's stock Sense 5 ROM thread to overcome this problem. But first you'l need s-ff to do that. So I'd suggest installing the Kickdroid ROM, then you can get s-off, then you can flash the firmware, then you can flash that ROM.

That sounds easy enough.. I was able to gain s-off through the face palm method earlier today so now i just need to flash the 2.15 firmware. in the thread it says to "make sure you flash your current ROM's boot.img after" is this necessary if i am using the stock 4.2.2 sense 5 ROM already, does the download include the radio? do i need a different radio?
The firmware is taken from the update that included that stock ROM so you might not have to flash the boot.img afterwards, if your phone doesn't boot thought that's why. The firmware package does include the radio, and it isn't suggested your change the radio because that'll cause a mismatch resulting in signal loss and reboots.

Thank you so much for your help! i succesfully flashed the firmware and amnow running CM10.2.1. If i want to flash a 4.4 ROM do i need a different recovery? im currently using 2.5.0.0
Yes you do need a different recovery to flash KitKat ROMs, it's the unofficial modified TWRP 2.6.3.0 from our Original Android Development section that you want. Even if you don't want to flash a KitKat ROM you need to change your recovery, the one you're currently running is very buggy and will cause major issues when flashing anything.
Download either the modified version of TWRP 2.6.3.0 (for KitKat ROMs) from here, or TWRP 2.6 (for any other ROM) from here.
Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader

Just flashed my phone back to stock and till now everything's working fine . ThanksYatin without your hard work it wouldn't have been possible for me to get back to original stock rom so a huge shout out to you . Now I just hope that there won't be any problem installing OTA updates later in the future when new sense 6 and android updates come out so fingers crossed about that .
@yatin kumar you should consider providing this ROM reset to @crushalot so that he can add it to his website , which will make it easier for people to find it.

After being on this forum for some time now, I have came to relize that there are many newbies found here. Asking how to flash firmware files, roms, and mods... So im taking the time to make a comprehensive guide on how to keep your phone up to date with the release of roms and mods by us developers.... This guide will help you determine on what you need to do to be updated to the latest found here on XDA. Remember onece update some older roms will not flash, meaning you will have to check updater-script and see if it matches your partition layout if not, just edit it accordingly and then it should flash.
First Step : Unlocking with HTCDev
To even enter the world of flashing a HTC device you first want to unlock your bootloader. To do that please go to this link and follow there instructions on unlocking your bootloader. https://www.htcdev.com/
Once you are done with them you will have an unlocked bootloader. Now dont get all happy there, as your device still has many security messures in place to make sure you dont screw up your device... Yes as of now you can flash custom recoveries, kernels and roms, But most of this can only be done with the assistance of a computer. This is why i suggest you continue with this guide to unlock the full potential of the phone.
Secound Step :S-Offing Your Device
For many of you who dont know what S-Off is please read this article - Here.!!!
After unlocking your bootloader you may want to proceed to S-OFF your device. This way you can flash just about anything without the use of a computer, Or to upgrade Firmware files released by HTC without running a RUU.
But this is were the 2nd step falls short as i do not know what S-OFF exploits will work with your current version of hboot. So i will link a few S-OFF threads below
1. S-OFF - HTC One Mini RUMRUNNER!!!
2. S-OFF with REVONE
3. FIREWATER S-OFF
Third Step :Gaining SuperCID
What is SuperCID & What does it do??
by CID unlocking your device the value of the CID is changed to SuperCID . This allows the flashing of ANY ROM to the device regardless of the carrier and also unlocks the read/write capability of the Ext_ROM.
Click to collapse
Once S-OFF I myself always do SUPERCID, to do this boot into fasboot and enter these commands using fastboot tool
1.
fastboot oem readcid
Click to collapse
2.
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Click to collapse
3.
fastboot oem readcid -- Should say 11111111
Click to collapse
Fourth Step : Updating Your Firmware On Your Device
What is Firmware? Why do we need to flash this?
The reason we need to update firmware is becuase in some cases it can cause future bugs in update roms, or even make some roms not flashable anymore because they support a new partition layout like found in the mini forums. So proceed if you have s-off and SuperCID by now.
Now you want to flash my Firmware found here and follow the instructions on updating your firmware... Please note that SDCARD will be wiped, so back it up before flashing.
Fifth Step : Flashing a Updated Recovery
Once you followed my firmware thread you want to update your recovery to one of these 3 listed recoverys below... the reason why i list these recoveries because they support the new partion layout.. As well with the old layout ( But you shouldnt be on old layout anymore )
To flash recoveries use this command, but fill it out accordingly to were your recovery image is located. Also need phone to be in fastboot.
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
Click to collapse
1. TWRP 2.7.1.1
2. Philz Advanced Recovery
3. CWM Recovery
Sixth Step : Sense 6 Firmware & How To Flash
Code:
*** Boot into Bootloader/Fastboot USB Mode ***
Step 1) [B]fastboot oem rebootRUU[/B]
*** Wait for the device to reboot to a black screen with an HTC logo ***
Step 2) [B]fastboot flash zip sense6_firmware.zip[/B]
*** When it says it is done in the terminal/cmdprompt execute the following ***
[The green bar only fills up about 75% of the way]
Step 3) [B]fastboot reboot-bootloader[/B]
Firmware Download :
Google Drive
Now Roms Like InsertCoin Should Install Correctly, But if it doesnt boot you may want to flash this cutom kernel found here.... If anyone doesnt know how to flash recoveries and boot.img's i will elaborate more on this guide.... HAPPY FLASHING

My ROM is Cyanogenmod official. Before cyanogenmod i have android 4.4.2 with hboot 2.21 ( maybe was updated from 4.3 .. ).
Go to the FUU thread and you'll see 4.3 firmware and supposable 4.4.2 firmware, download 4.3 hboot and flash the hboot.omg through terminal

hello, this might be a noob question but I am getting confused by the version numbers of hboot and firmware.
in your guide it says to flash the 2.22 firmware, does this have anything to do with hboot? does it update hboot to 2.22 as well? or do we have to update hboot to 2.22 before or after some step? mine is 2.19, I don't know if I need to update it or not...
thanks in advance for the clarification.

That is a rumrunner server problem, you can keep trying, contact them on irc, or use sunshine (their paid app) to get s-off.
I'm currently on 3.10.502.3. Can I flash the 4.09.401.3 firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...-official-stock-sense-6-rom-firmware-t2817921) now or is there another version I should flash before going to the latest?
Thanks
