I dumped my entire system, and it was only 150Mb.....
Where the hell is the rest of the memory going???
Well someone in the other tgread said they called tmobile and found out its a software issue with the phone not seeing the rest of the memory. A fix is supposedly being worked on by samsung

Itll be fixed by Team Whiskey way before Samsung

Yeah I was the one who called. I even went and exchanged my phone for a new one and the memory problem was still there. Best thing you can do is call and complain really. They told me no one else had complained about the problem to them yet so they had no idea what to say. The more people who complain the bigger the problem becomes and they'll fix it.
But I agree, we will have a fix here on xda before an OTA is issued
So, in a test, I just deleted almost everything on my phone, except the required items for it to run properly. Checked my memory, and it s now LESS available!!!! WTF Samsung?!?!?!?

I think I should have realized the application storage is counted in /data partition. Delete ANYTHING from /system/app doesn't help.
There should be something can be done on partitioning.
I used this method and it worked great for me. I Had 151mb free now I have 369mb free. Scroll down to the How to Delete Fota files and follows the steps.
Here is the link.

Bigken777
Unzip attached files and move them to the data\fota directory.
these files will replace the actual files and will free 250 Mb/
any more questions, look for the thread in development
Did the Fota fix also and got 300mb
Hey guys i tried the fota fix, which also appears on another thread, but once i dumped the files into app/fota it didn't free up any space...i must be doing something wrong, any suggestions?

Yea that Fota.zip is the only way to clear up the application storage. I was happy with how it worked

How are you pushing the files?

Well, great question cuz, im only dragging and dropping the files not actually pushing them, so i guess that might be part of tha problem. is there an app i could use to do this? Thanx in advance, im a n00b at this...

The easiest way is to use "root explorer" or "super manager" copy them and drop them in the fota file and it will over write them. I actually made a copy of the original fota files on my sdcard just in case.

If you use root explorer make sure you click on the "Mount r/w" at the top. that ensures you have permissions to write to the /data/fota folder
A little more on this is that you're replacing the Firmware(?) Over The Air (FOTA) files. They are each 125MB so you should gain about 250MB of storage.
Make sure you look at the size, the new files are 0k. I used super manager, it was really easy to use. Don't forget to make the system R/W.
thanx 4 sharing guys, i will try again as soon as i get a break from work...

Just to update, i finally got around to the fota fix and managed to free up arnd 300 megs. Used sypermanager to push the files. Thx to everyone who cooperated...

There was already an app created by Mat to do this instead of mod procedures. In market just search for fota. Rest will follow thru the app. Make's life simple.

Thoughts on how soon we'll see this? Apparently it was announced today for Nexus S devices.

As soon as the nexus s gets it we should to. It should work on cyanogenmod. Since it uses proper api.

Hopefully the ffc camera quality isn't as crappy as the back one with CM. This sounds great though. Third party camera apps are hit or miss and the other user must have that app installed too. At least everyone has Google Talk on their phone

sweet. thanks for the link. gonna test it now. =)
In class but this should work.
Created a new folder called 'system' in c:\android-sdk\tools. Obtained the odexed framework folder and placed that in the system folder. Then created a folder called app in the system folder and placed the Google talk app and talk odex inside.
c:\android-sdk\tools\system\app
baksmali.jar -d ../framework -x talk2odex
This produced an out folder will all the decompiled .smali files etc. From there I was able to get to the Launcher.smali that i wanted, but to recompile to a classes.dex file you simply run the following command: smali.jar out
This produces an 'out.dex' that you can rename to 'classes.dex'
You would still have to push the correct libs as well. Let me know if it worked.

You can get the app to work. That's all this thread is about not installing the update.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
i thought it was a just a simple as installing the .apk. sounds like you need to manually push all files via adb?
EDIT: straight installing the .apk doesnt work. just gets application not installed. gonna try root explorer method.
Yes or root explorer most likely work

You got to get it to run with the Kernal and such I believe..
makes sense. tried both methods and it failed me. hurray for nandroid backup.
I am testing this out now.

I tested it myself it works thanks to hazamatic

looks like it installed perfectly. if anyones willing to help me with testing it out, my gtalk is tdheeroyuy. thanks in advance.
FCing on my CM 7 (latest) release. Can see that people are online with video, and make a call - call rings at their end but Talk FCs on me.
Opens for me but then I get endless loop of it trying to connect....this was same for both deodexed app and .zip install through recovery
Try formatting the whole system installong from scratch should work.

Good morning everyone..
I, I'm sure like many of you, am constantly changing roms and tinkering with my phone.
I am getting to the point that I don't want to do it anymore because of all the work of re-installing all my apps...
I have created a folder on my sdcard that i put all my installers into and usually just run through that to install everything...
What I was wondering is would it be possible to create a script, put it in my directory, launch it through terminal and it will install any/all apk's in that folder?
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Sent from my DoubleShot Lite using xda premium
well you can set it to tranfer all the apks into /data/app. Though im not sure if your phone will actually view them as installed. Otherwise make a script that pushes them with the *.apk wild card.
TitaniumBackup anyone?
Yup! Titanium backup is the way to go.
I recommend the Pro version though, It does everything automatically without needing user input.
Actually I found this at the market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.infolife.installer
It is a sdcard batch installer... Was exactly what I was looking for...

Running rooted, stock 4.0.4 ICS. I'm trying to get rid of the "AT&T" floating in the middle of the lockscreen (what is it even doing there in the first place!?).
I've tried searching and haven't been able to dig anything up. Anyone know of a good solution?

Can you be a bit more specific?

EDIT:
What is meant by this:
"In strings .xml
in framework.apk"
What exactly am I looking for? And, where am I looking for it? I presume the place to start is the /system/framework folder, but there isn't a framework.apk file. There is a framework-res.apk and framework.jar, but no framework.apk file. There is also twframwork-res.apk and twframework.jar.. Do these TouchWiz APK's have anything to do with this? And does "In strings .xml" mean I'm looking for a file named strings.xml, or does that mean something entirely different? And once I find the correct file, what needs to be done with it? I'm baffled that these instructions could have somehow led Drahkarg to know what to do.. I'm not asking for a 12-step tutorial, but just a little bit more specific instructions as far as what the heck to do. FWIW - I'll go ahead and apologize in advance for asking someone to be more specific.. Being a relative Noob and all..
Hello, this is my first post... I hope its in the right place.. haha OK so the issue I'm having is... well first is it even possible to install/use another UI's MMS.apk? For example if I want to use maybe Motorola's MMS.apk? So I have tried (through root explorer) and it wants me to install it... so I tried but it failed.. how can I get around that and make it work?
Thanks for any help!

I'm probably wrong... change permissions on old apk to 774 then install.
Make a backup! Obviously

Thanks for the quick reply! I tried that but it still failed! And I tried using the app wonder machine app on my computer and when I tried it said something like missing shared files or missing shared library or something like that...
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
You don't need to install it...if you push it to system/apps and make the permissions correct you need to reboot in order for it to work. But most likely it's part of motoblur so it probably won't work.
Thanks! And that probably is part of it! Is there any way to get around it?
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Use titanium backup to backup and uninstall the default app. Then put the mms.apk in system>apps. Reboot. If that doesn't work the mms app you're trying to use isn't compatible. I'm currently using the inverted aosp ics mms apk on viper rom.
