[Q] Exporting text messages and reimporting them... - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Okay so I typed a long message and it got deleted claiming I wasn't logged in... sigh... Now to try the very shortened version, ha.
So basically I was on 4.0.4 with my HTC One X and exported all of my text messages to a file using HTC's built in exporter. It dropped a "file", no extension, into the SD. I've since upgraded to CM10 and cannot seem to find any way to reimport those text messages... I tried opening the file in notepad, vi, excel, even 7zip and I just cannot figure out how to open it up.
Does anyone know of any converter or aftermarket apps that can reimport this file? I'm considering actually going back to 4.0.4 just to reimport and export it back out as an XML since I know many apps can handle that file type.
Thanks for the help and I apologize if I missed this is my day long search for an answer to this problem.

Sorry, I do not.
I use sms back up and restore from play market.
The sense one works fine when going back to a sense based Rom but doesn't help when leaving it.
I would reflash a sense Rom, install sms back up, back up, then move in to new Rom.

Bust!
I wonder if there's a way to back up everything so I can quickly get back to CM10 after I've gotten the text messages out of this, presumably, proprietary format?
Looks like I have a fun weekend project!

Uhh yeah . . . a TWRP nandroid. I'm surprised any one flashing ROMs would not know how to use nandroids. Also I've been surprised at home many people seem to be flashing ROMs lately without making nandroid backups.
Similar to WarRaven, I use the market app SMS Backup+ to backup my texts to Gmail. I believe Titanium Backup also is able to backup SMS messages (to internal SD), but haven't personally used it for that.
Same as you, I'm guessing the HTC backup function is proprietary.

Well it was really a guided experience by my brother in law who insisted I take the jump up to Jelly Bean. I'm still awfully mixed about it feeling like I lost some functionality in exchange for things that just didn't quite bother me.
If I had personally sought out rooting and using CM10 I would have spent a lot more time reading up on the subject but since he had done it on his own One X already I followed his guidance. I appreciate the advice and will figure something out for sure.

I have to agree. Sense has really come around. AOSP ROMs feel a bit more fluid in the launcher and menus. But its really just a "feel" thing, not a matter of lag actually making you wait for tasks to be performed (with the exception of certain apps - Play Store seems laggy as hell in Sense for some reason). I personally prefer the look and features of Sense over AOSP, although I see it perfectly reasonable that many others feel the exact opposite way. It really comes down to personal preference and tastes.
Don't let your brother railroad you into liking AOSP just for the sake of it (but give it a fair chance, of course). You're allowed to prefer Sense.

Definitely read up and learn, before attempting anything. But to more thoroughly answer your previous question, you can easily backup your existing ROM, including all user data, settings, etc. with TWRP (known as a "nandroid" backup) and go back and forth between ROMs. Just boot into TWRP and select the "backup" option.

Oh yeah I'm giving it a fair chance for sure. I'm kinda waiting with baited breath for HTC to pull their heads out and release it officially. Then I hope it'd be the best of both worlds? :fingers-crossed:

Awesome to note I may just have to do that... Between changing out HDD this weekend for solid states in my two computers and now another fun weekender. Time to go buy some Mountain Dew!

Sms backup and restore is awesome for people flashing alot. I send my backup file to Dropbox alot of times if I think there is any danger of losing it.

Misc Questions

Hi there! I've been using an Epic 4G since it was released, but I'll be switching to a Sprint Nexus S 4G on Wednesday when it arrive. Just wanted a change of pace until this Nexus "Prime" or an SGS2 comes out or something.
Typically I do my own research, but for this device there seems to be a bit of info fragmentation or maybe I am being dense. I appreciate the interest and responses in advance.
1. While I saw a few mentions of Odin, it was definitely not all over the place... I take it no one really uses it with this device? I did pre-setup the ADB/SDK/Fastboot stuff so it is all ready to go. Was just curious.
2. What are people using when they say to use the "latest" CWM? Most posts link to 3.1x, but I saw a thread for 4.0.0.2 that included an NS4G build. I'm a little thrown off by all of the NS4G stuff in the NS Dev section that isn't also in the NS4G dev section. I have to remember to explore both consistently.
3. What are people's feelings on Rom Manager? I've never used it before, it was a no no on the Epic. That said, it seems to be acceptable on the NS4G and if so I'll probably buy and use it to support the dev.
4. In reading about CWM sticking and not sticking... what is it about the NS4G that has these two styles exist? Is there a reason to go one way or the other? On the Epic you installed CWM and that was the end of it.
5. With the memory all being internal, when does that get wiped automatically? What are the scenarios (i.e. I read Fastboot is one) where this memory will be wiped and I should be careful to backup to PC first?
6. Is it safe to restore (via Titanium) some limited data? I don't want to restore much, but maybe some saved game data (lol Angry Birds, Fieldrunners, etc).
I think that's it for now... if anyone has personal opinions/recomendations on ROM/Kernel combinations, that'd be cool too, though I'll probably play wth several over the next few weeks.
Once again, I appreciate the interest in advance... looking to be as informed as possible when it arrived on Wednesday so I can hit the ground running.
Take care.
Lol..., my questions are boring.
One and only bump, I'll let it die after this.
Thanks

I also came from the epic, and also loved odin. Haven't used it yet on my nexus but the only thing I've seen that is close to it is that samsung factory reset tool which is posted in the dev section

I am currently on 4.0.0.2 and love it. I believe the member who posted it built it from source and it is not the "official" version. That being said it works great and I definitely recommend it.

Not a fan of it personally. I figure if you know how to install your own recovery and flash your own roms it really doesn't serve much of a purpose. I never got really into using it but I really can't say anything bad about it... it does what it's supposed to do.

I don't really have a great answer for you here. I never had an issue with cwm sticking on my nexus while others have. If you check the "etc" directory there is supposed to be a file called "install-recovery.sh" If you have it, rename it and then cwm should stick.

Yes, fastboot causes the internal "sd card" to be erased, other then that I haven't come across any time that it happens. Obviously I would say YES backup your data anyway... you never know!

I did when I first got my phone, didn't have any issues. So yeah I would say restoring your game data after installing the game should be fine.

Thanks for response, man. I appreciate the helpful info.
Does 4G work on CM these days? I don't use it often, but it had come in handy... like when I am at Citizens Bank Park watching the Phils trample the Yanks lol
Absolutely does, the 4G toggle doesn't work in the notification bar, but it works when you turn it on in the settings. Glad I could help...
dmarden,
I came from Epic also, and love it, not looking back. Even having trouble manipulating daughter and hubby's, they are slightly different, slower, and bigger!!
To answer your questions, one word of advise - watch, read, and re-read, then maybe ask before you download something. I am finding it VERY hard in these forums to distinguish which Nexus, gsm or cdma, and what applies. I made the mistake of unlocking bootloader (and I had a tough time) with a gsm, had not idea, and bricked it. Sprint wouldn't touch it, but found the Odin for Samsung's programs and got it back - but it seems no one here uses it.
I'm on my second, haven't unlocked it yet, but as far as customs roms go, no one from Epic is here except ShabbyPenguin (ACS) and none have done roms, just see them yacking and supporting. The only thing I miss is Roam Control (vacation home at edge of service).
I am really enjoying stock on both, no rom changes. The phone is super fast, has fantastic battery life, and no issues. These are the reasons I had to hack and rom the Epic. And it is also wonderful not to "update" and "maintain" the roms. I always had little issues, now I have none.
So my advise, try vanilla for awhile, add what you liked and used and see how smooth it runs. And love the smaller, more comfortable feel of the phone
Yeah, perhaps I need to get out of the custom ROM mindset for a while.

[Q] Noob lookinor someadvice/answers.......

Im fairly new to the phone mod game and im the only one of my friends who gives a damn. Needless to say that means ive no one to talk to about this stuff. I recently rooted my Inspire (aahk) works great. Now my phone is insane with speeds like ive never seen. However i was flashing some roms around trying to find the one just right for me, and thought id try CM7 did a full wipe. Being the impulsive person i am i only backed up on my SD and when it told me to do a partition i didnt consider the consequences..... So now im stuck with CM7 (not for me) and i guess ive got to start all over. In trying to download new ROMS it seems that only the ones n the premium section will really change the whole phone. Is there a way i can get back to the ROM it had me on just after rooting? Or am i starting all over? would it be wise to unroot and start over? i really dont like the ADW base of CM7. I had been running HoneySense which was awesome but could barely use my data other than the Market..... Yes i know im long winded but like i stated. Ive got no friends that give a damn about their phones. ANY hints tips advice would be appreciated. And to all of you developers, keep up the good work, i envy your skills.... 2 years ago i could barely check an email, and have been learning as much as possible as quick as possible. Thanks for reading my nonsensical ramblings
Also what is the difference with the nandroid and clockworkmod? can i use apps for both or are they root specific... You can laugh if you like
Your nandroid/cwm backups will backup your entire rom. Forget restoring those if you want to go to a different rom. You need to be rooted if you want to perform these actions, but you already are rooted. If you want to backup your apps then use Titanium backup or My backup root to backup just your apps. Don't backup system stuff. You can flash any of the roms in the development section. You do not need to root again. Always wipe before flashing a new rom. In recovery you select wipe and choose to wipe cache, dalvik cache, data/factory reset, and you can also format system if you want. Don't wipe anything else. Backup your data that you want to save before wiping.
Pretty much what Wolf is saying..Also @Diesel321, So what is it that over all your looking to do with your phone.?
Some of the biggest ?s that is asked a lot when it comes to roms is stability, battery life. And whats the "best" and there is really no "best" one. But for I would recommend NinjaRom. I have been running that for @ least 5months and only had minor issue which was fixed from the support team. Also tried android rev,CoreDroid all good stuff.
But when you do flash its a good idea to do a back up. Which I go through ClockWorkMod (CWM) and select back up and I aslo save each back to my sd card and save it the pc to a folder that I created for my Roms/Tweaks/Add-Ons/etc..
but if you need any other ?s just ask or Pm Me glad to help out.
Thanks to both of you guys... Overall i want to speed up my system (which the "set cpu" app and all overclocking apps confuse me) I have tried all different kinds of settings and the only way i can get a decent result is through wifi. Also batterylife and the more i learn about phones the more i like so the deeper i dive the more intriuged i become... I always want more faster and better. As far as ROMS anything based or similar to CM7 i do not like, before i eber rooted i tried the ADW launcher and am not a fan of the set up. I love the sense roms, but the only ones i can find through cwm are HoneySense which only lets me access my data through the market (no browser, no email, no google, no FB) i installed Leedroid last night and its ok but the specs of Honey Wonder look awesome. I cant find it on cwm and i cant seem to gert it from my computer to my phone. Im about to try and put my SD into the cpu and do it that way. When i backup my Apps should i backup my data for them as well? ANd then can i restore them over any rom? or do i go back and restore them from the market, can i save my home screens to restore the way i like them or do i have to do it manually any time? Im sorry if im overloading with questons but as i stated previously none of my friends give a damn about any of this stuff, except one and he kniows about a quarter of what i know. Hes wanting to root his LG OPtimus C but i told him to wait till i learn more about it, also i dont know if there is a root for it. Any other tips and advice are always welcomed appreciated and thanked... Again thanks guys.. One more. Why cant i seem to download anything from my XDA Premium App? that would make my life much easier
wow that was a mouthful, you should be able to download from xda but if your having trouble try-menu-browser also your not limited to only inspire roms the DHD is almost the same phone and is global and non-branded (INSPIRE 4G-AT&T) so check out some of these.

Ok.... Where to start... You can back up your apps with data. I restore those because for like any programs such as browsers or any games I want to restore the settings and bookmarks, passwords, etc. Before I restore in a new rom I go through the checked programs that are supposed to be restored, Apps with data in Titanium Backup Pro, and make sure I am only restoring "my" apps. I have often found that TB likes to also backup HTC Sense, etc. I do not want to restore any system apps since this would more than likely cause a problem with the new rom.
As far as overclocking is concerned, a lot of the newer versions of roms do not use SetCPU anymore. They use the Virtuous overclocking daemon script. This works much faster than SetCPU. Using SetCPU with these roms will disable the daemon. the information on the kernel and the overclocking daemon is usually listed in the first post of the rom thread. You can install Sybergunne's Daemon Controller app if it is not already installed to easily change the settings. Overclock carefully. Every phone is different and not all can go as high as others. Some may run stable at 1.6 GHz and others are only stable at 1.1 GHz.
If you are looking for faster data speeds, then that is already cooked into the roms by the developers, although there may always be some tweaking that can be performed. Speed for data is very subjective, because it really depends on your particular area. Radio's and RIL's make a difference also, but what works for me in my area may not work well for you. It is really a trial and error procedure to find out what works for you.
You are looking for sense roms, so Sense 3.0 and 3.5 are the latest for our phones. Go through the Inspire and Desire HD development threads and read the rom descriptions to see what you like. Almost every DHD rom is made to also work with the Inspire. Links to both sections are posted below. Some rom ideas for you to look at are, Android Revolution HD, Rumrunner, Bindroid, RCMix roms, HoneyWonder roms, Cleardroid, Virtuous Unity, etc., etc. You need to decide which ones you want to try. Ok, that is my mouthful.

The rom comes with kernel but aosp kernels go with aosp (android open source project)=cm7 and sence kernels usually with all sence roms
People sometimes flash alternate kernels than what comes with the rom to experiment and see what the performance behavior is like. ALWAYS make a CWM/Nandroid backup of your rom before you flash any mods or kernels. Usually it does not happen, but sometimes a flashed mod or kernel can mess up your phone so it is good to have a backup in case of problems.
So I've got a 16gig SD and I've had to strip it down because it had 14 gigs of music on it. So after I rooted I took a bunch off. Would it be wise to keep 2 SXS? One I can jam too and another for downloading Rome and flashing? Also I CAN flash CM7 kernels to my Sense roms. Has anyone tried that Beatmod BlissSense. It seems cool but it doesn't seem to want to download. You guys are awesome and have helped me it tremendously. I may not be able to help with your computer problems or anything but if you need any advice on home repair or anything like that Im your guy.

Beatmod BlissSense was awesome. Had some minor bugs for me, GPS signal was a littly nutty and my calls kept dropping. (I reflashed the rom when I found this was happening and the issue seemed to disappear). All in all, it was a great rom but since I'm new to the root thing, the flashing bug caught me and off I went into the xda forums..I'm currently running Android Revolution and of all the roms I've flashed, this is by far my favorite.
What exactly is "freezing" an app mean? I've got an idea I just want to make sure I'm right? Is it wise to delete bloatware apps? Would they come back if I needed to unroot?
Freezing an app is a little like deleting it, but safer. If you delete it, you may find out you have big problems because the system app will not reinstall correctly and you end up reinstalling the rom. With freezing you can take it out but restore it exactly the way it was in the system if things go wrong. If you are backing up your rom like you should in case of problems, then that backup usually takes over a gigabyte of space on your sd card, so it sounds like you definitely need to have another card with more space. You have to be careful what kernel you want to try. If it was written for CM7 it may not work with Sense based roms. Depends how it was coded. You have to research information on the kernel to see if it lists anything specific about proprietary installation. If not, then go ahead and try it. BACKUP YOUR ROM FIRST BEFORE FLASHING.
Nice about to flash HoneyWonder now to see whats up..
I see that wolf has covered you on some damn good topics..
I have flashed lots of roms this honey wonder will be like my 9th lol but it all depends on you and the flashing it will take time to see what you like. As to speeding up your phone like set cpu @ the time I found useful cause you were able to set profiles for phone like when its sleep mode set it for like low power. And when your using it have a higher mhz etc.. But I did use juice defender as an app which to me it worked very good.
But to me I like Roms that do not take up memory lol
So im downloading some ROMs to my newly dedicated SD Just curius if i eed anything other than the roms on there? I flashed honey with out the inspire fix if you did I would plug your phone back in go to you sd card and delete it out and reflash.
If you have not made a back up in cwm then do so and it will located in your sd card in the folder clock work and then a sub folder called back ups. I myself save that back on my pc just to have.
The 3g icon I had that and its ok.
My Pip Boy 3000

My first flashing... (no trenchcoat involved)

So, I finally flashed a ROM onto my Atrix 2 for the first time the other day.
Synopsis
Long story short the twitter app crashed my phone and threw it into a boot-loop, I did some research, quickly learned the in's-and-out's of flashing ROM's, flashed the stock-ROM for my device, fully updated my device, and became a better man for it...okay, well maybe not that last part!
The nitty-gritty
What happened was I was trying to update my twitter when the app locked up after hitting the 'submit' button. I tried to force-close the program but to no avail. Then I had the bright idea of shutting down my phone. This is where the fun began.
After re-booting my phone, I discovered that it was stuck in a boot-loop. Now, my phone has been rooted for a little over a month. There were no issues that occurred after I rooted my phone up until that point. This is what leaves me to believe that Twitter corrupted some app data.
After this happened I took to the internet and scoured over forums (this one chief among them), articles, videos, and even asked a few fellow-android users here in the real world. Everywhere I looked lead me to this term I had feared up until this point: Flashing.
I understood that flashing a ROM was just like installing a new operating system. I had toyed around with Linux before just a bit and am savvy-ish when it comes to computers. However, I was so terrified of bricking my phone in trying to flash a new ROM onto it (I would have been track-phoning for around a year until my next manufacturer subsidy came out on my account.)
After discovering terms like deodexed, CM7, stock, AP Fastboot, RSD Lite, and hardware-key reset, I felt like I was finally able to attempt the flashing. The first few attempts failed as I didn't realize I didn't have enough battery life to sustain the flashing process.
After charging it up, I flashed the stock ROM onto my phone. The moment it went from the red M puddle screen to the dripping AT&T sphere, then onward to the ROM was a moment of pure joy (not to sound corny.) I felt like I had beat-the-system. A problem that would have forced others to return their phone to the store was a problem that I fixed myself.
Final Thought
I know this is rather cinematic for it being a simple flash job on an android device. But, for me, this was quite exhilarating. I'm not comfortable flashing anything lower than full-release ROM's (beta and alpha ROM's are a bit beyond my scope right now.) But, I do look forward to testing out various full-release ROM's as they become available.

In all technicality all you're doing when flashing a rom (at least now) is installing some tweaked files such as build.prop or some tweaked system files for themes. By no means is it a new OS. But once a main kernel Dec finished up with a CM7 kernel we should be able to flash a custom kernel which is the meat of what really runs your phone. Really the stuff we can do right now only really have to do withtl the UI.
But anyways welcome to the world of android development!

Congrats on flashing your first ROM . Sorry to hear it didn't completely work out for your. Quick question: did you wipe the Dalvik Cache as part of the flashing process?
By the way, most of the ROMs labeled "beta" are pretty stable. If a ROM has had more than a few updates and it's still in beta, it's mostly because the developer is either planning on adding more features for the full release or is a perfectionist
Well, as you can tell it's a sharp learning curve. But welcome to the world of Android hacking/modding/whateveryoucallit, and happy flashing
wait, are you telling me that there are actually people who do research before complaining about some little thing they don't know how to do?!?!?!?!?!?!?

LOL.. good story/nice read.. Welcome!
I would say it worked out pretty well. I will probably flash a custom ROM later on this week. I will also keep reading up on the whole process and the it's and out's.
I cleared both user data and the dalvik cache as well. Pretty much at that point I was desperate. Lolz

Hahaha.. Well, with this involving my phone (for which I don't have the hundreds of dollars to buy one outside the manufacturers subsidy) I wanted to make sure I was doing things right.

I agree. Spent this weekend working on the Stock 2.3.6 rooted/odexed. Added the Superv6, and other mods, hotspot wifi fix, removed bloat. Definitely more fun this way. Then again I had a buttload of practice on my original ATRIX.
And thank god for the bootstrap and FXZ !!!!

How exactly do I identify bloatware? I have two programs to do that Titanium backup and Rom Manager as well as a few 3p uninstallers. However, I never know exactly what to delete?

DON'T ever delete any programs. It is better to use something like bloat freezer, and freeze these apps, than to delete them.
The updates check for missing "bloatware" and will fail to install the updates due to ANY missing apps, that came with the stock image.
If you want a debloated image, then use one of the more custom ROMS like lithium, or Supercharged, etc.
If you use a debloated ROM, then you can always flash the fxz back before any updates come out, we tend to start screaming pretty load on here when updates start to arrive as you may have already seen this week with the ICS leaks.
P.S. It is VERY hard to hardbrick this phone, it took me killing the signature on the kernel to get my first hardbrick, and I have had 3 more hardbricks. I have the warranty through att, so I never worry about things like that, since I am a dev and take my phones life into my own hands, and ATT always has exchanged my phone on the spot for over 12 years now.... You can softbrick (bootloop), but that is an easy fix with the FXZ (lifesaver). So not too much to worry about hurting your phone with flashing...

I though the same thing, and I was kind of glad it did crash though, so that I could find that article with the interview of cyanogen that was posted on the XDA-dev home page.
AscottW, I am like you -I read and researched and forum'd my evening/early morning hours away with regards to the whole rooting and flashing and so on. I have never done such things with a phone before, but being fairly computer savvy myself felt like after several hard weeks learning as much as I could, flashed MY first ROM. (Did a little happy dance myself when I saw the custom boot animation for the first time, think I even let out a little school boy squeal as well! -Glad no one was around to hear that)
Still reading and researching and forum'ing at every free moment I have (girlfriend and kids think my laptop has become permanently attached to my, well... lap!) and am really interested in possibly getting myself to a point where I can be of some usefulness in the dev world.
Admittedly, after flashing for the first time, I got foolish with CWM and did basically what seemed like deleting the system partition and told the Android OS to get lost. Big mistake. Got stuck in a crazy splash screen loop and wouldn't load Android OS for the life of me. That said, with the help of the good people here on this forum, I was able to be walked through a AP Fastboot FXZ file fix, updated back to 2.3.6, and started over -making damn sure I knew what I was doing before doing ANYTHING! lol

Flashing Addiction? Please Help.. :S

Hey guys
Curious Really. I LOVE my Sensation and these ROMS, but im really addicted to flashing ROMS. Constantly having to wipe, format, reflash, backup is really stressful. I lose my texts and apps and so on. then updates come along, and there goes everythign again.
Yes, i do backup. But when restoring, usually unsuccessful.
What can i do? My dad works overseas, i gave him to phone to keep aside for 3 months and im using a Sony Ericsson C510a, that i had before. I became a perfectionist i guess. I dont want to see that phone for a while.
But close to getting it back, bought the white Sensation XE case, new screenprotector - plastic, not the ZAGG type. why did i ever go to these rubbery ones that scratch and glare and so on, WHY..
New white silicone case too, white earphones, completely changing the outlook when ill have it back.
Is it ridiculous? Ill be first to say absolutely. Freedom to do as you want, all it is.
I've been using Viper, but too many customizing options!!! I lose myself
Then update after update after update... and each is better than the other. Wipe. W..W..Wipe again and again.
Honestly, what can i do? Im desperate, i get headaches
I like sense, but is there a sense 4 ROM with lost of features and not that many customizing opptions?
I wanna try CM10 when i get the phone back, but maybe ill miss the sense 4 clock and weather.
Help? Id really appreciate it. Really.
Use titanium backup, usually restoring is a snap!! Customizations are a good thing! A very good thing! I also use viper Rom, updates are not a problem. I restore everything in a snap using titanium backup! There really is no problem here. You WANT a Rom that has a active development , you wouldn't want something that does not move forward with its development. That's the adventure, moving forward, changing things, advancing. It's all part of development. It's all good. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you, just enjoy ! Do give T.B a try and I think it will make your restoration easier! Hope this helps and best wishes!
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, kernel version PYD-X stable 3.1, mugen battery 3800mah. Please press thanks if I helped in anyway.
I recommend GO backup. Backup and restore sms, mms, contacts, call log, wifi access points, ringtones, apps + data all in one app at one touch of a button. Very easy to use.
i'm using mybackup, it works very well, and never miss an application or a contact/message :good:
also worked when i updated from ics to jb
Or get a phone with a locked bootloader, or windows phone. It will be a tough detox, but the addiction will pass and you'll wonder what to do with all your free time.

Thanks for the tips guys! Sorry for the late reply, busy with exams!
Absolutely customization is a good thing, it means you own the thing (Not like iPhone.. ahem..). I always tell people to get androids and not those things, and say "You wanna know what an iPhone is? Here (i click on my appdrawer, swiping through it), "This is an iphone"
But its the restlesness about it. The TB, is it the full version? Because the free was 1 by one. I should buy it then, why not?
And i love the idea og GO Backup too (plus its free ) However the ratings seem low as of some recent update, anything happened? Can you link me to it just to make sure i got the right one? Some with the same names.
Mybackup was the one that freezed on me lol. It used to be fine, then it doesnt restore completely. Or once the screen shuts off, it stops... orrrrr, it still doesnt restore completely haha.
Oh i had a winmo... Made me depressed haha, thats a LACK of custoomization and even the basic theming. But android is cool
I never wipe when updating my rom, and it still works (Bruce's CM10).

Must go faster

I first apologize, I don't have much free time to search and I'm sure this has been addressed before. I also apologize for the length of this post.
My phone should be running faster. I experience force closes on htc sense quite frequently. My messages take almost 20-30 seconds to send, making it especially frustrating when I swype a wrong word that completely changes the context of a text and I have to send a correction text but can't before I get one back, further slowing my phone.
There are a bunch of bloatware apps that I rarely or never use, such as qik, wifi calling, facebook, etc; running in the background which I would love to disable or remove but don't have permissions to do so.
If it were possible to get a version of htc sense or similar that's stable, I'd love that.
Anyway. I know much of what I want to do requires that I root my phone, but this is >the< place where the geniuses reside, and I was hoping that I could get some advice and some direction. Is it possible to free up memory without rooting? if not, is there a guide written for this specific phone?
Or, is there another phone out there which has a touch pad and physical qwerty, an amazing camera and the other bonuses this phone came with?
Thank you in advance

If it's not too clear in the op, please be advised that I am a total nub to phone hardware and software. I have no idea how to root or customize beyond what is found in settings. I'm not completely retarded though, I've got computer skills. Just apprehensive. Phones are expensive.

S-Off, unlock your phone, then flash Miktouch 0.7 ROM. It is debloated and tweaked, but still based on the latest stock ROM (1.63.531.2) so everything works like it is supposed to work, still has the amazing camera, wifi, bluetooth. And it is fast and very battery efficient. Instructions for S-Off and unlocking are readily available in these forums, it is a relatively easy task.

...are you rooted?
Sent from Spaceball One.
The last two paragraphs seem to indicate that you are not rooted. The steps you can take without root and the willingness to flash new ROMs are quite limited. Mainly stuff like dumping all apps that run in the background and stuff like that.
New ROMs will open performance options that unrooted stock couldn't approach.
MikTouch 0.7 will be a good start for you. It allows a decent OC with a kernel flash (1.5gHz gives a healthy boost and is nice and safe).
The best advice I can give is read, read, read. Start with the MikTouch or BulletProof threads.
I used to be a die hard Sense fan. I have been running CM9 for the past 8 or so months and rarely go back now...
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
Unfortunately I can't seem to find anything about s-off or miktouch. There are so many forums here I don't even know where to begin looking.
