So I bought this version of the 300T from amazon <LINK> Is there any difference between this version of the 300T and the other version? I would also like to root my tablet for connecting my ps3 controller, ad free and titanium backup. My tablet is stock and fresh out of the box and has an ota update waiting to be downloaded and installed.
I assume this is the ota JB update. I won't install it yet until I get some advice.. .Posting the tablets info so you know what I have. Under about tablet I show> Android Version 4.0.3, Kernel version 2.6.39.4, build number IMLK7K.US_epad 9.4.3.30. What steps do you recommend I take in order to root this? If updating to ota JB makes it dangerous to root, (something about brickable and "unbrickable" methods or firmwares?) can I just root the ICS build and then install a JB rom? Thanks guys!
If you're planning to use a custom rom (which you're going to want to do anyways), then i suggest doing the update, then unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and flash CleanRom 2.6.1 Inheretence (i run mine with the stock kernel and its super smooth and fast, especially for games). No need to root as CleanRom is already a rooted ROM. And as far the GOLD edtion vs the regular edition most have, there's really nothing different...other that the color, there's really nothing more to the Gold edition.

Awesome thanks so much. Which guide would you suggest I follow in order to unlock the bootloader, root and install the rom?

No need to root.
Just install the unlocking tool found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
Then flash TWRP found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672108
Then make a backup and install CleanRom 2.6.1 Inheretence found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012560
Sorry for some reason when i try to do a hyperlink its not letting me.

I hope You didn't update to jelly bean yet. Whoever replayed missed a really important step.
Nvflash.
I missed out on this too, it only works with Ice Cream Sandwhich. Its for if you ever brick ur tab to something you can't fix urself. You use NV flash and it can supposably unbrick anything.
And the tf300 is weird. You can't flash Jelly Bean roms on Ice Cream Sandwhich and you can't flash Ice Cream Sandwhich roms on Jelly Bean. Unless said so by dev.. its because Asus messed with our bootloader.
Also with NV flash, you can update to Jelly Bean. Then downgrade back to Ice Cream Sandwhich. But without nvflash you can't downgrade once on Jelly Bean. So if you updated you can't use nvflash.
If this helped, don't forget about the thanks button

Says: Based on Official Asus Jellybean 4.1.1 / US 10.4.4.20, with JB 4.2 Google Apps and is ODEX ED!
I presume you don't need to downgrade back to ICS for the cleanrom and do the nvflash you are talking about?

Unfortunately, you can't re-lock your bootloader, as far as I know. So your choice is either upgrade to the Asus official Jelly Bean the hard way or flash a custom rom.
To upgrade to Asus official JB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377
If you do upgrade to Asus JB manually, beware that you can't flash any other ROM aside from stock-based because of changes in the bootloader, so once you do upgrade you're limited to flashing 4 ROMs, i.e. CleanROM, Jelly Bean Hydro, and 2 other ROMs that I cant remember off the top of my head.
Or, you could flash Cyanogen Mod 10 (and ROMs based off of AOSP) without upgrading to the ASUS official JB, in which case you get to experience JB without changing your bootloader. Do this if you're not going to miss ASUS-specific apps. Here's the link to CM10 nightly build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845200
I recommend you go through this thread as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
Hope that helps bro.
And the next time, give a good title for your OP as ' i want to upgrade to JB' or something else, not your FB or People title who say nothing.
It will be better to give you a more appropriate help
Thanks in advance
yes thanks for the help im now on the asus jelly bean and will now look to installing a custom rom on there to get the best out of my device, and yes I must admit my title is pretty ****e and need to think before posting it lol

It's easy, isn't it ?
The title says it all. I want to flash a CUSTOM rom on my xperia mini. It is rooted with flashtool running ICS 4.0.4 and the bootloader is LOCKED.
I just want to flash a new custom rom as i tried it before and that resulted in a black screen after Sony Ericsson logo. This was when i had GB installed on it.
I flashed ICS later and rooted it. I amd actually new to rotting though i've been using android since 2010.
I really need your help.
Thanks A Lot
Read the instruction and the steps in your dev section. Or you are gonna get someone to explain to you, and if he misses a step you are screwed.
I rooted my x10mini fairly easy,
Rmb fter flashing the rom make sure you flash the kernel or you will experience boot loop.
just be careful as to not flash any rom with an incompatible kernel.
Gb rom with gb kernel, ics with ics.

On small question, I can flash any rom on any android version right?
What do you mean any android version? Flash roms that is compatible to your phone.
Read everything posted in op. There are some requirements, and the methods are written clearly.

It would help to put up what kind of Android version you're on. Just simply putting your kernel version doesn't help at all.

Dude, you ARE on Jelly Bean. Android 4.1.x - 4.3.x is all Jelly Bean.
As for changing the kernel version, there isn't much of a choice for Android 4.1.2. You'd have to root it and use a different Android version if you really want a different kernel version (doesn't matter honestly).
Read about rooting and unlocking boot loader , flashing a Rom, and updating your bootloader (modem). I like 4.1.2 Roms, Obsessed Rom, TKRom, Clean 7 Rom, and Synergy. Each have themes that are great. Read up on rooting, unlocking boot loader, flashing Rom and changing basebands BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ON YOUR DEVICE. Each carrier and model is not the same so make sure you only follow directions for your specific device model and carrier, if not you will most likely have a paperweight. Good Luck.
Lean kernel , KT747, and a few others have 4.1.2 kernels available.

Hi
I have htc sensation locked version , and i am new to rooting.
To root the device do i need to unlock and s-off first?
I am actually not aware of these terms.
Rooting ,unlocking and s-off all these mean the same or do we have to follow a unlock process first and root
I have officialy updated to ICS.
is rooting just to update to higher OS version or
even if we move from ICS unrooted to ICS rooted will there be performance upgrage?
Can some one provide me steps /links to unlock/s-off/root..in the order if all these are different

Quick question. I can get a good deal on a Galaxy Note Tab 10.1 that is running 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It's a wi-fi version, no carrier. Will I be able to update to a newer OS such as Jelly Bean or KitKat? I should be able to just update over wifi, correct? Thanks - Dan

IMHO, exept for the N8013 you get OTA/Kies updates up to 4.4.2. If you have a N8013 OTA 4.1.2, for 4.4.2 you can flash Gnabo V7 4.4.2 which by the way is much better than stock.
It is a GT-N8013 running ICS. It can be updated then to Kit Kat, without rooting? This would be for my wife as a gift, she doesn't like all that "tinkering" like I do on my phones, LOL.

The N8013 (i have the same) can be updated to 4.1.2 via OTA o Kies. There is no KitKat for this model, and i do not think there will be. Samsung forgot about it. If you want KitKat 4.4.2 than you have to flash a custom ROM which requires a Custom recovery and for that SuperSU and root. But it is worth it. The Gnabo 4.4.2 ROm is amazing, free from Bloatware and running like Speedy Gonzales Its easy to do.

This is not totally true.. You can flash FACTORY Stock rom for the n8010 to this device. Its totally stock Rom with the Boot- loader removed so it does not Alter the ability to go back. THE N810 IS The same device only its sold internationally. this is the base firmware of gnobo rom...
OP this is your best bed right here to keep as close to stock . She will be with this rom

Yes, forgot about that possibility.
I would like to hook her up with a smooth running, no bloat ROM. I realize it's been gone over in some of the other 1000+ page threads but what does the Gnabo ROM give me over the stock ICS?
hope this helps..

Reasons to update
android 4.2
Samsung 2014 apps. including the new s-note Calender email and Others my mind slipped
Removed a Bunch of crap wear. and Useless apps.
Custom recovery where you can do full backups (can root without updating rom)
Moved Notifications to top Like on phone ( i really love this)
I think its a Bit faster then 4.1.2 stock rom.
You can rum 4.2 AND above only apps.
I am sure there are more
Reasons to not update
The new Multi window ui Kinda sucks. But it does work.
Prob more but for me its functioning file
You will no longer get Factory updates.. (ohh wait Samsung ditched us anyway)
Sounds like Gnobo rom would be best for you . But you read the forums and decide for yourself...
I would go for Gnabo Rom, and if you know what you do flash Boefflas Kernel. Top combination.
Would this ROM still be an improvement over 4.1 Jelly Bean? I was mistaken, it is a GT-N8013 running 4.1 JB.

as i said two post up. I listed pros cons for me... I Like the 2014 note pro apps better then the old s- note and note2013 apps..
you can always root it . Install a custom recovery do a anand backup in custom recovery to external sd card.
install the rom and try it.. if you do not like Restore your backup.. You are way WAY Over thinking this simple solution.. Hope you do not mind me saying so..
