[POLL] Which kernel are you using on Sense ROMs? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi Guys,
Just want to see what kernel are you using on the Sense based ROMs and why.
What are the pluses and minuses...
Also if you could tell what kind of CPU Governor works best for you and why is that?
I'm on Viper XL 2.3.1
Thanks!!

I tried them all, but it seemed to me that elementalx 2.0 speed worked the best for me on viper

beast here but i think im going to try elemental

Elemental here also... Smooth, awesome battery, and has all features.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

Elemental 2.1. 1.5 GHz max, 192 MHz min, s2w disabled.
Haven't had a single problem.

Elemental 2.0 with
Intellidemand governor and Noop i/o scheduler.
Underclocked to 1028mhz, single core minimum usage
Works great, great battery, great speed

I started using ElementalX 3.0 also.
I had some problems with beastmode ... touchscreen not functional when unlocking. Happened a lot of times and I couldn't do anything other than reboot..
Now on Elemental that issue seems be gone.

ElementalX, 1.7GHz, stock voltages, no sweep2wake. My phone can't handle undervolting.
Sent from my HTC One XL

ElementalX with the default settings (1.7, no zram, s2w). I tried going to 2.0 and my phone got unstable.

I'm using BeastMode. And so far so good. The unresponsive screen problem can be avoided by disabling s2w.

Beast, with next to no issues.

I'm on viper 2.3.1 as well. I've tried both but I feel like beast mode gets along with my phone a little better. They're both great kernels, it's just finding the one that works best on YOUR phone.

Ehm. The "what works best on your phone" thing might apply to overclocking, but it certainly doesn't apply to general settings of a kernel. It's all a matter of preference.

Elemental for the OTG support. OTG wasn't working on Beastmode last time I tried it.

Elemental. Beastmode is great too, but i just found elemental a little better.

Just curious, why are people overclocking to 1.7? Seems like everything is smooth as butter at 1.5 and it gives you a fair bit more battery when you clock lower, which is pretty important on a phone without a removable battery. Just curious

I'm at 2.0 and my battery lasts me all day long. 12-18 hours with 4-6 hours screen on. I charge it up overnight and it never let's me down.

Faux123 kernel for Weapon 3.0?

Reset the battery stats and let it run for a couple of days. The kernel included with Weapon 3.0 is the most battery effecient one. I get 14-24 hours depending on use.

Wow! That is a hot score. Hmm...I have tried custom kernels on some other roms with mixed results (probably my fault). Anyway, I am willing to give it a try again. What is the best way to back up the original kernel in case I want to reinstall it? Of course their is a nandroid back up, but is there a simple way to back up just the kernel?

[Kernels / boot.img - 6/3] - Stock Kernel Collection - init.d support

Ok, there has been a lot of controversy about which stock kernel runs best on the 1.8x based ROMS.
Some people will tell me 1.82.x runs the best, others tell me 1.88.x runs the best. And we can all agree that 1.85.x runs the worse...
So I have decided to make all three versions available in a flashable zip format for your testing / usage pleasure.

All three images are unsecured and have init.d support.
All can and should be flashed from whichever custom recovery you have.
All also include the appropriate modules so all functions will work like normal.
Do not flash these on a 1.7x ROM unless you enjoy watching your phone bootloop!!!
If your going to download these please hit Thanks. Its not hard to do, as a matter of fact, its just as easy to do as hitting the download button
Have fun!

how's the fluidity/smoothness of 1.82?
The first one is 1.88 kernel which scored a little higher, and the other is 1.82 kernel. So far 1.82 and 1.88 feels about the same. I'll try the CPU mod and come back. Also I'll test out battery usages....I do feel 1.85 kernel has the best battery ...that's just by me using the 2.3 cleanrom the past couple days...I've been on 2.4 since last night...well like I said I'll be back after some more testing.
With the dual core ultimate I have worse performance with the mod on 1.82....reverting that back...even on antutu went down about 600 points.

very similar to 1.88 IMHO. To me the most important thing is going to be battery.
I don't have any concrete tests, but jsut going back to 1.82 from 1.88 I can feel a difference in fluidness of sense. For example, in 1.85 and 1.88 it will have a maybe 1-1.5 second stutter before it launches the app drawer. Like when I press the app drawer button, itll lag and then open. in 1.82, the app draw opens almost instantly. The scrolling side to side on the home screen is also not as laggy. 1.88 definitely is better than 1.85 though. But 1.82 is pretty good. that's the only thing that's been bugging me with the later kernels.
Was on 1.85 and had terrible battery and signal drops, if drops are even related idk. This compared to 1.73
Testing out 1.88 now.

Yeah, even compared to 1.73, 1.85 feels a little 'buggier'. I've been getting worse download speeds and worse battery life. I'm going to keep running 1.85 for a few more hours to fully test the battery buy so far it hasn't been that great.

I feel sorry for you guys. I don't know how you people use smartphones and can't figure out how to max your battery life. Turn off data, wifi, bluetooth, and gps when you are not actively using them. Always on mobile data is a killer. Disable all push notifications. And the biggest one is set custom automatic brightness adjustment. I set mine manually most of the time because stock, particularly with sense, is way too high. Even in a pitch black room it won't dial the back light down to minimum.

From my experience, you could try the Virtuous rom with sense 3.5, it has pretty good battery life.
I've had my Inspire for a year and two months aprox., still with the stock battery. On GB the best battery life I had was on Virtuous Affinity 2.05, MIUI 2.4.20, and CM7.2 with LC's kernel. Also, IceColdSandwich 8.6.1 has given me a pretty good battery life. Yesterday I flashed JellyTime R12 and can't talk too much about this one. Always remember the basics, turn off stuff you are not using. And remember, every phone is different so the best way to know is to flash yourself and test for a few days.
This is the best I've gotten on aospx br7

I recently switched to Sabsa Prime 6.0 from ARHD 6.3.2 and battery life has a noticible improvement, as well as performance. Plus it's working ICS.
I don't know if it's my usage or what..None of the ROM gave me battery life of more than a day.Right now due to lot of chatting,i hardly get a day backup.
Used Existz's AOSPX,IceColdSandwich and now finally on Sabsa Prime v6.0
----------------
Device:Inspire 4G
ROM:Sabsa Prime v6.0
Kernel:virtuous_infinity-v1.35.0
I am a moderate to heavy user and I work in a poor coverage area. All roms I have used, FroYo, GB, ICS, AOSP or Sense, get me to lunch. I plug in while on my break and that will get me home. I never go anywhere without car and wall chargers. Use it how you want. With the size of the battery and the size of the display, you won't get a lot of use between charging.
Not just a pretty Pickle.

Smoothest sense rom

Hi all.
I love sense. I also love my phone running smooth.
I have recently flashed viper and it is fantastic from pretty much every aspect except I get lags ask the time. Drives me nuts.
I was wondering what your experiences are with alternatives.

Any insight would be fantastic

I've never had any luck with Elemental or Bulletproof Kernels on my device. Always laggy starting up from sleep.
I tried everything - increased voltage, min CPU, minfree settings etc. and still laggy.
Must be my device as many people have great results - just not me (and a few others I've seen post).
For some reason stock outperforms custom kernels on my device everytime.
I'm running HatkaXL at the moment with stock kernel and it runs great.
