[Q] Jellybean OTA for P3113? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've seen lots of posts about the official jellybean OTA for P3113 and P3110, and even people saying that these roms work on their P3113 (while changing their product info...). Does anyone know if/when the official P3113 rom is coming out? I'm looking forward to flashing that with mobile Odin so I can keep root.

Official jelly bean for p3110 and p3100 is released for some regions and carrier.
So you can expect for everybody soon:thumbup:

What I find more frustrating than anything is that its been a week since the first official was released (in another region) and we (the P3113 owners) are not carrier reliant. Usually its the carrier that holds up the release of an OS, but since we don't have one, and the release from the 3110 works on our devices, why on earth is it taking so long?
It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I just installed the 3110 update that's around. The only deficiency I see is that the Model Number is became GT-P3110. I might not like some of the features but I think an official 4.1.1 for 3113 will be the same.
I am not concerned about warranty issues and that might be the major reason to wait. Also, IMHO, there's nothing worth not waiting for.

Why are you saying this? Is the JB so bad?

Do you have to be rooted to install the 3110 version of Jelly Bean on the 3113?
Im still on stock unrooted ICS..

No, as far as I know there is an Odin flashable, I do not have a link off hand though. If you are rooted, you can use Mobile Odin, and check the Everroot feature. It will keep your root in the next ROM (and if you want it can also re-install itself for you).

I don't think it is bad. I also don't think it is that much better.

I went ahead and flashed via mobile odin. It did the standard upgrade stuff but it was really unstable. My tablet would boot up with a weird visual glitch and then freeze up every couple of minutes. I had to do a factory reset and now everything works. It defaulted to french, but I was able to set it to english on the first screen. Now the only issue is that my device says it is a p3110, but I guess that's not a big deal.

Is there a way to install this in the P3113 without touchwiz..and I dont mean just using another launcher on top of touchwiz?
I know cm10 is out..but I don't think they are using the OTA as a backbone...therefore not having pure project butter, 60fps, triple buffering, etc..

Not that I know of. However touchwiz takes more of a back seat role in this rom and I've even replaced the Samsung keyboard with the stock 4.2 keyboard... and it is awesome. I like this rom the best out of what I've used on this tablet.

So I still get funny vertical multicolored lines on boot, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. I have since flashed the recent UK build on top of the french build that was released first. I don't know why, but it feels snappier.

I think I remember someone saying they did a complete data/cache wipe...then reinstalled.
This seemed to fix the multicolored screen on boot...

Yah, I tried that. I still have the lines on boot. As long as my tablet is fine, I don't really care. I can always go back and flash stock.
I guess it should go away when p3113 official comes out. Right now I'm running p3110 on a p3113.
Thanks.

I keep telling you , but you fail to understand so please do some research about Android OS and firmware . There's no such thing as a pure AOSP ROM and Samsung certainly doesn't make one. Even a Nexus 7 requires device specific libraries and drivers. And removing Touchwiz won''t speed up your tablet.
Every Android ROM, CM10, Samsung, Nexus, etc. uses the Google AOSP API source code as its base, but that does nothing without a device specific Kernel, drivers, libs, etc. Understand?
The so called "Project Butter," is a series of changes incorporated into the Android kernel and API that enhances GUI performance and it is in all JB ROMs.
Here's a little tutorial to help you out.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...roject-butter-how-it-works-and-what-it-added/
These performance enhancements are in all JB ROMs , Samsung didn't leave it out or make it go away with touchwiz. However not all apps will take advantage of it yet. As apps are updated to JB compatibility they will perform better.

Indeed.
I know our Infuses could run ICS. Hell, my Nexus S runs it beautifully. It's just a matter of the right libs. I think the hardware is more than sufficient.
im curious to see how the hard key/soft key issue is going to be worked out. Also since ive been using GoLauncher to get rid of my status bar, it will be interesting to see how the new menu button works.

Well the custom ROMs to come out so far for the Nexus S have either left them in (which some people prefer) or taken them out. The hard buttons would obviously still need to work (they do on the Nexus S) so you'd just get a bit more real estate at the bottom of the screen. Rumor has it that the official ICS update for the NS will not have the software buttons but as it hasn't been officially released yet, nobody knows for sure. It's a good bet though.

I wouldnt doubt it. It would seem redundant to leave them in. Hopefully google is really making an effort at unification with ICS. It would be awesome to not have a fragmented app store and dev.
My 2 Cent's
There is no question that the Infuse is capable of running ICS, other lesser devices are running it. I have a mostly stable beta running on my Inspire that has very similar hardware specs. (slower processor clock too 1ghz vs 1.2ghz) it really boils down to the correct drivers & libs/kernel I think ICS would be awesome on the Infuse.

ICS: Difference between Electron's version and Official

I have been using Electron's ICS (wipe version) and am happy with it. If I wanted the official ICS, I could flash it to HC unrooted and send it to Samsung for the "real" ICS.
Just wondering if anyone has been in position to compare the two?

Not sure your location but be aware that to the best of my knowledge there never was an "official release" for the US. Other than VZW version, no non-carrier model was released (thanks Apple) therefore no US JB. Highly unlikely VZW will release to JB but then who knows really.
We in the US with the non-VZW 7.7 have been running other releases (Austria myself).

I am using the Electon version and as far as I know, the only difference b/w his version and the "official" VZW version (which you can get if you got the OTA DL to work or if you send back to them for repair and then they put it on for you) is that his is rooted. I don't believe that he touched any of the other files. From a performance standpoint, that would mean that they should be identical, other than the obvious HW differences.
Agree. I like Electron's work and prefer it due to root. Antutu is irrelevant.

I am totally not knowledgeable about the inner workings of Android, but it seems to me that since those who got their tabs updated officially by Verizon or Samsung are not having these issues, there must be something different between the two.
The difference? One installs, the other won't.

Here's a sneaky one that gave my wife fits for several weeks until I discovered it: the hosts file is set to block ads, which was giving her a heck of a time on her favorite shopping sites! I've edited it, and everything is fully functional now. Whatever the little VZW update that's trickling out right now is, I think I can do without it.
How about difference in Aroma rom and non.. what are those??

Laggy with Jelly Bean

I just got the OTA update for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on my P3100. Thing is, it's made my device laggy. There's some hesitation/stutter when i swype through the home pages. Has anyone experienced this?
Yes i do and i carfuly factory reset and switched to the last stock unrooted firmware also but i fine the device not that smooth
How were you able to change firmware? I'm researching on how to downgrade back to ics. My device had no lag then!
I find the Official JB smoother by far than ICS was. If you have just flashed the update or however you upgraded don't flip your tab on and start playing with everything right away and make a snap judgement based on that. Let it settle down for a while (like an hour or 2) then give it a try, maybe even reboot again and after a few minutes pick it up and see how it feels.
Never experience that laggy thing, but i find JB a bit boring and is still at its fetus stage so i reverted back to ICS.
just look for the stock firmware here or google it,

I'm using the GT-3113 wifi only model and I agree with you about JB and want to roll back. I'm not rooted but would be willing to take any action to get ICS back. My original rom was TSYAXR didn't see it on the ICS stock rom list, does it matter what one I use of the 3113s?
Actually, the first in my checklist of flashing is to look for stock rom and pit file of my unit, after that is the checking of regional or country upgrade for the gadget, then i just flash away.
Also since i have my stock rom handy, i can flash custom rom anytime/whatever i want, and it also helps to be a tester for the betas since you can help the DEVS to polish their hard worked custom.

CM 10 for HD using Safestrap 3.60

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to smartphones. I recently bought a RAZR HD xt926 knowing it was a really good phone but I hadn't dug deep enough to realize the bootloader is not unlockable anymore until after I bought one :crying: . So I've been scrounging around for my options. So far I've gotten Safestrap 3.60 and rooted my phone. I've noticed some mention of flashing CM 10 or 10.1 using SS but every zip I find either fails to flash or wont boot afterwards.
Anyone know where a good and working CM10 zip that would work and/or the best SS compatible rom?
System version: 9.18.79
Android 4.1.2
build number: 9.8.1Q-79
You can't use CM with Safestrap because it tries to flash a different kernel. You need to use ROMs that are stock-based like RageHD, Nexesque, etc.
What are you looking for exactly? Something very close to stock or something with more custom stuff added?

Well I was basing that off of several threads I found like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34592575
Says it is CM 10 that works on Safestrap3 but the file isn't available any more on the download site.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. I've looked briefly at Aviator, RageHD, Blurry, Widow, Paragon Maxximus, and a couple others I found. Only found a small handful so far though.
Currently I'm using the stock but added AntTek Quick Toggle, Notification Toggle, Google Keyboard (very similar to CM's minus the blue), and Reboot Menu Widget *ROOT* (as the stock doesn't have Reboot in the power menu). Pretty much just adding stuff to give it more of the features I really enjoyed on my previous phone which has CM10.1.3 on it
Hmm, maybe that version of CM will work then. I never ended up using Safestrap myself so I couldn't say for sure.
Anyway, the link doesn't work right now because goo.im is in the middle of upgrading their servers.
I see. Hopefully I'll be able to get it once they finish and it work out. :good: guess that's the best I can do with this phone. Stock rom doesn't look half bad when using Next launcher 3D combined with the rest of the stuff I mentioned.
Yeah, I agree. Stock isn't bad at all with root. You get great battery life and you can remove all the bloatware anyway.
Yeah, I've yet to remove any bloatware. Probably only adding to the list in a way. The battery life was the main reason I bought this phone as my SII Skyrocket has a terrible battery life. I'd probably have gotten another phone or tried to find a developer or unlocked version if I'd known beforehand about the update, but such is my luck :silly:

You can flash Nexesque on an unlocked phone. That's what I have and encounter no issues, I believe when Adam released it it was specifically for an unlocked phone and safestrap as an alternative

Is there really that much difference between 4.1.2 and 4.4?

I'm using Stock 4.1.2 and except 5ghz wifi isn't working am pretty happy with it.
Do the later custom roms add enough performance enhancements to warrant the effort? For me the 'proper' dpi and tablet layout of stock is highly preferred so any other layout is really not desired.
Thanks.

I would say that if you're happy with the stock ROM, then stick with it! The easiest upgrade you can do is to install an aftermarket launcher, like NovaLauncher or GoLauncher. You'll get a ton of features that will allow you to customize your home screen layout without having to mess with rooting and flashing ROMs and recoveries.
