Laggy with Jelly Bean - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the OTA update for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on my P3100. Thing is, it's made my device laggy. There's some hesitation/stutter when i swype through the home pages. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes i do and i carfuly factory reset and switched to the last stock unrooted firmware also but i fine the device not that smooth

How were you able to change firmware? I'm researching on how to downgrade back to ics. My device had no lag then!

I find the Official JB smoother by far than ICS was. If you have just flashed the update or however you upgraded don't flip your tab on and start playing with everything right away and make a snap judgement based on that. Let it settle down for a while (like an hour or 2) then give it a try, maybe even reboot again and after a few minutes pick it up and see how it feels.

Never experience that laggy thing, but i find JB a bit boring and is still at its fetus stage so i reverted back to ICS.
just look for the stock firmware here or google it,

To me JB was notably faster. I'd suggest you do a factory reset and start over.

Which rom did you use?

I'm using the GT-3113 wifi only model and I agree with you about JB and want to roll back. I'm not rooted but would be willing to take any action to get ICS back. My original rom was TSYAXR didn't see it on the ICS stock rom list, does it matter what one I use of the 3113s?

Actually, the first in my checklist of flashing is to look for stock rom and pit file of my unit, after that is the checking of regional or country upgrade for the gadget, then i just flash away.
Also since i have my stock rom handy, i can flash custom rom anytime/whatever i want, and it also helps to be a tester for the betas since you can help the DEVS to polish their hard worked custom.

I notice that too. But at the cost of the battery as it is already stated in the update that it uses much juice for its touch sensitivity ande gui enhance effect.

For me, If I power-up it is slow, but later it goes faster.

I find Jellybean to be much smoother than ICS was.
And I also find the comment "i find JB a bit boring and is still at its fetus stage" hilarious. JB is much more polished than ICS to me..

Its up to you mate, the thing is we always look for functionality yet JB is not yet up to it,
JB is smoother, i wont argue with that, but will smoothness help me with my tethering? Or would smoothness send my files via bluetooth?
I will stick to my comment, its still wee compared to the functionality of ICS.

I'm on JB and I tether without issues. Tethering really doesn't have anything to do with the version of Android you're on, so I am not sure what you are trying to say there. Not sure what issues you have with BT file transfers either...?

JB is just not that appealing for me, and that issue i just said is what i experince from JB.

hi all...
i also managed update my tab p3110 to JB.. but after several day i downgrade back to stock ICS. JB seem like laggy on photo galery and hate the new notification at top. My tab battery drain more on JB. The battery drop 1% within several min after fully charge. i never get 100% battery indication only stuck at 99%.

I updated my p3113 a few days ago and i dont notice all the lags you say. Im still stock rooted and most probably i will keep it that way.

I had a little bit of lag at first, then did a factory reset and re-installed all my apps. Seems pretty smooth now.

[Q] ICS and JB

okay so the only thing i really like about cm10 compared to cm9 is the status bar.
its alot more cleaner in my opinion, but what i was wondering is if its possible to put the cm10 status bar onto cm9.
and if so can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to do this.
You mean the notification drawer right? I think you would have to change a couple of files in framework, some editing and some libs.. maybe more.
Bottom line: why go through all that trouble? Jb and ics are very similar, both cosmetically and in performance, and jb should surpass ics once it continues to be perfected, specially project butter.
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I agree with andros11. I've tried a ics-skinned gingerbread rom, 2 ics roms, and now a jb rom: the jb rom is by far my favorite, especially in regards to the notification bar and the response time. Try jb; you won't regret it
Sent from my Infuse–flavored Jelly Bean
I agree... I also have tried ICS covered GB ROMs and cm9. Absolutely love the cm10 jb ROM. Runs smooth with just a few very minor bugs. Not going back!

Only downside i've really noticed to CM10 so far is the fact that there is no more flash support and the internet is still heavily using flash right now.
Edit: was sifting through some posts and there is actually a browser that works with flash for jb. It's called xscope and it links to a post with a compatible flash version to install. Total awesomeness!

Flash actually works really well on JB. If you search for a flash apk, you can still install it and run it on other browsers too.
I was poking around the play store a while back and saw an app to get the jb notification style. I think it was called jelly bean notifications or something like that. Id post a link but im on the phone and its a pita.
I didnt test it as im on cm10 but try it out. Might be just what youre looking for
Edit: it was called jelly bean status bar. And it looks like it might change the way notifications are shown. But im not sure.

The ROM wouldn't boot if it didn't come with it's own kernel.
EVery ROM comes with its own kernel which will overwrite what ever you have previously. MIUI just had a major theme comp, therefore likely to stay on V4 until at least end of the year. Also, MIUI says that their ROMs or rather the kernel is at 60fps, it should be similar to the smoothness on JB project butter. you won't miss out much if you use MIUI.
Thx for all of your answers, i just installed it... miui kernel doesnt have voodoo sound

I tried flashing another roms but none of the radios were working even on stock roms and I spend so much time trying to fix it manually %&()#@
have a look miui jb
i tried it the memory drain is the same as the ics(xiaomi fix your [email protected]@@ scheduler in order to kill at list 1 up with out the need to slow down like hell and force the user to use the task manager)it work a bit faster thanks to butter but if they don't fix there issues miui will die before the end of the year even in one x(as far as i heard in forums) the rom is slow as hell because of the faulty management system of the rom, the 110-150 mb that are left free in nexus are far from enought to use apps or play heavy games the problem is that after a while the memory goes full on it's own and in the task manager all the apps+the game eat almost 350 mb so where are the other 150mb?

Ive had enough of running buggy, battery hungry roms and would like to return my Nexus S to stock. The last time I was on stock was 2.3.6 I believe. If I flash via CWM to the official 4.0.3 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445570 will I then be able receive OTA updates, ie to 4.1.2? (obviously Ill be rooted again, but im not fussed)

Buggy? Battery hungry ? You were in what ROM? All custom ROMs at almost 100% bugs free(especially CM10 and CM10/AOKP based). Weird ...
Dont have the time to setup the computer for Fastboot, couldnt get it working with Win7 last time out either.

Tried all sorts, Oxygen, NSCollab, early ICS roms (awful), others i cant remember. Best combo i had was stock 2.3.6/7 with a Kernel i think. I found that invariably they become less stable the longer you have them installed. Of course if you change rom a lot you'll never notice.
I'm with you, running stock 4.1.2 since it came out, only with custom kernel for BLN, highbigmem and voodoo sound and don't regret it a bit. A lot of free time and no need to update all the time;P

How did you root and unlock your phone then? Only way to do it needs an actual working connection with fasboot/adb. Even the 1 click crap uses that.
I guess nothing stops you from flashing 4.0.3 then going the upgrade route, but I don't see that as a very efficient nor a clean way to do it.

It would be hard to call CM10 something related to stable (same for any CM10 base ROM). Even they don't call it that. That's why the nightly tag is for.

You'll see a lot of people still have complaints regarding functions that get broken with each version, only to come back working after the next one. It's silly to assume CM team doesn't know **** about development and simply tag "nightly", "RC" and "stable" for the sake of it. Please don't bring up made up stability percentages into the lot.
You can glance at the nightly changelogs yourself to see NPEs getting corrected in relatively core apps nearly every week. Not just for crespo too, but regarding CM10 as a whole.
I'll give you that though, on a day to day basis, the rom is very usable. But good luck getting a 1000 hours uptime without the thing becoming sluggish.

[Q] Jellybean OTA for P3113?

Hello all,
I've seen lots of posts about the official jellybean OTA for P3113 and P3110, and even people saying that these roms work on their P3113 (while changing their product info...). Does anyone know if/when the official P3113 rom is coming out? I'm looking forward to flashing that with mobile Odin so I can keep root.

Official jelly bean for p3110 and p3100 is released for some regions and carrier.
So you can expect for everybody soon:thumbup:
What I find more frustrating than anything is that its been a week since the first official was released (in another region) and we (the P3113 owners) are not carrier reliant. Usually its the carrier that holds up the release of an OS, but since we don't have one, and the release from the 3110 works on our devices, why on earth is it taking so long?
It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I just installed the 3110 update that's around. The only deficiency I see is that the Model Number is became GT-P3110. I might not like some of the features but I think an official 4.1.1 for 3113 will be the same.
I am not concerned about warranty issues and that might be the major reason to wait. Also, IMHO, there's nothing worth not waiting for.
Why are you saying this? Is the JB so bad?
Do you have to be rooted to install the 3110 version of Jelly Bean on the 3113?
Im still on stock unrooted ICS..
No, as far as I know there is an Odin flashable, I do not have a link off hand though. If you are rooted, you can use Mobile Odin, and check the Everroot feature. It will keep your root in the next ROM (and if you want it can also re-install itself for you).

I went ahead and flashed via mobile odin. It did the standard upgrade stuff but it was really unstable. My tablet would boot up with a weird visual glitch and then freeze up every couple of minutes. I had to do a factory reset and now everything works. It defaulted to french, but I was able to set it to english on the first screen. Now the only issue is that my device says it is a p3110, but I guess that's not a big deal.

I know cm10 is out..but I don't think they are using the OTA as a backbone...therefore not having pure project butter, 60fps, triple buffering, etc..

Not that I know of. However touchwiz takes more of a back seat role in this rom and I've even replaced the Samsung keyboard with the stock 4.2 keyboard... and it is awesome. I like this rom the best out of what I've used on this tablet.

I keep telling you , but you fail to understand so please do some research about Android OS and firmware . There's no such thing as a pure AOSP ROM and Samsung certainly doesn't make one. Even a Nexus 7 requires device specific libraries and drivers. And removing Touchwiz won''t speed up your tablet.
Every Android ROM, CM10, Samsung, Nexus, etc. uses the Google AOSP API source code as its base, but that does nothing without a device specific Kernel, drivers, libs, etc. Understand?
The so called "Project Butter," is a series of changes incorporated into the Android kernel and API that enhances GUI performance and it is in all JB ROMs.
Here's a little tutorial to help you out.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...roject-butter-how-it-works-and-what-it-added/
These performance enhancements are in all JB ROMs , Samsung didn't leave it out or make it go away with touchwiz. However not all apps will take advantage of it yet. As apps are updated to JB compatibility they will perform better.

The VRBMB1 had issues with signal loss and other issues, including battery drainage... so Verizon actually pulled that update back and are looking into fixing it.
I would just root it. Once rooted, be sure to back up the stock OTA ROM that you're on just in case you need it later on. Back one up to the SD card and then make another backup onto the external SD card, if you have one, to be safe.
Flash another ROM and get rid of the issues.

The VRBMD3 had issues with signal loss and other issues, including battery drainage... so Verizon actually pulled that update back and are looking into fixing it.
I would just root it. Once rooted, be sure to back up the stock OTA ROM that you're on just in case you need it later on. Back one up to the SD card and then make another backup onto the external SD card, if you have one, to be safe.
Flash another ROM and get rid of the issues.

Fixed that for ya.
twistedillutions,
1 GB of ram being used is kinda normal for TW. You still have another 1 GB to use so you're fine there. If you want more free ram, use an AOSP rom since they remove all the TW features and give a little more ram. In your case, you could take the VRBMF1 OTA which just came out and see how that works for you. You could always root/unlock that and flash anything like RBarnett09 said.
As he said, I recommend flashing an AOSP ROM without Touchwiz. I flashed LiquidSmooth 2.7 last night and this ROM is super stable. Battery life is great as well.

Not much of a difference.
I'm on LiquidSmooth v2.7 and I must say that I have yet to experience an issue and battery life is beyond amazing. I highly recommend it.
