Special Thanks.... and discovered something new! - Captivate General

Hello everyone!
So, as most of you know; well actually all of you know that I'm a "noob" (kinda funny because I'm super passionate about riding mortorcycles; and in that scene we use a similar term for novice riders; "squids" is what we call them) but I stumbled upon something; Now I know a lot you veterans guys are gonna know this but this is for other noobs out there like me, I only say this because I'm baffled that this scene can be just as discouraging as the riding scene; My phone was being difficult, super laggy, super glitchy, my music app was cutting in and out, etc; I downloaded team acids member dsexton702's adrenaline mod; (of course I made a back up, I really didn't like that lesson haha) Right before I was about to restore it, I thought to myself; "how many apps do I have granted on my phone that controls overclocking?" I counted on my fingers, 1; the rom I'm running comes w/a bland overclock that I enabled, 2: I downloaded "android overclock by jrummy" and enabled that, 3: I downloaded rom toolbox pro by jrummy, enabled that as well 4; I downloaded the semaphore manager and yes enabled that as well, yes yes I know, I'm foolish but I'm not done yet LOL, Last but not least I downloaded "setcpu" by Michael Huang. And you all know... yes I enabled it. So I thought to myself which one do I wanna keep, "setcpu" is what i'm currently trying out. I uninstalled each one, well I actually kept "rom toolbox pro" because its filled with awesome custom UI downloads; I just make sure I disable when done so it doesn't interfere. After I uninstalled each one, I would do a recovery reboot each time. I'm not sure if it matters; but didn't think it would hurt! (even though I read in one case, u can lose root if reboot to frequently) After I did all that; I'm shocked how smooth it is. that's an understatement too. There isn't a combination of words to describe how well my phone is working! Daily driver; samsung captivate, running slim bean 4.1.2 thank you for all the hard work! Love this rom, I also downloaded team acid member dsexton702's adrenaline injection; thank you very much d for your hard work as well! I only wish I could do half the things these guys can do! Oh and I've only been in this scene for about a month; So I'm really super duper new haha! Anyways to all a good night! Pic, currently Thank you again; I couldn't be happier with my phone!

I just wanted to add my two cents about which cpu/kernel control to consider. I've never used setcpu that you are currently on but I would definitely suggest you try out Semaphore manager since you are on Slimbean and it comes stock with Semaphore kernel. Using it's manager will likely give you more control over the cpu and kernel than what you are currently using.

[Q] Just had ny phone root

Hello, I am a newbie to this whole rooting thing. I just had my phone rooted with UnNamed ROM v2.2.1 so far the phone has been really fast and smooth. Its a nice clean setup. The big question is, now what? What should be my next step? Nothing big since I`m still learning. Maybe a theme? I not sure. Thanks for any input. Have a great night.

Welcome to a world free of obligatory carrier control and Bloat! I suggest you repost this in the specific forum for your phone, that way other people who have the same phone can help you out.
WIN
I title this WIN because you really have done all there is to it.... for n00b5! No i do not mean to be rude at all =) Great job getting this far mate! There are two options you really have here:
1: you sit back and watch for updates, flash them, flash fixes like beats audio, lagfixes, different kernels and other goodies and make your phone even better.
2: you follow option 1 AND you learn how to make the goodies! Seriously, it's an open source project, what open source is meant to have happen! People learn about the goodies there are for your phone, which is what you did by flashing a rom, and then they move on to make themes, apps, ports, kernels, etc. of their own.
In simple words, you should go and learn about how your awesome phone works (i have an SGS and an SGSII so i know they're amazing) and you go and improve it! That is how you have on my friend, you are in a great position for learning and doing, so go out and make android great!

what are the "must haves" for the tf101?

Hey guys I have never owned a tablet before, and finally picked up a tf101 with keyboard for a sweet price on CL.. and I want to give this tablet thing a real fair shot. That being said, I have tinkered around with android cellphones for a while, Im not a 100% noob but not as clever as most of you guys.
anyways I want to cut down on the amount of reading to do and boy there is a bunch , its the same song for every device/vehicle I buy, Purchase product, then spend the next couple months reading your brains off on a forum related to the product. (need to cut down on the reading... gf always on my case lol)
What are the most popular mods, accessories , settings (I will check into all the various kernals and Roms myself) apps. What are some life changing functions I can perform with the tf101 that would make me wish I got into tablets a lot sooner?
pretty much, I like the device and it looks real sleek and cool... just not sure what to do with it now , lol.
thanks in advance
Must have for me - Root - install custom rom - install kernel.
My PERI tool makes this a one-click from latest stock. I highly recommend you skip all the issues people have with stock and go straight to a great rom like ARHD, AOKP, or Megatron. :]
Other - counterstrike mobile, yes
This can be tough to answer because Android, unlike granny smith, has many things to read about and tinker with. I have had the tab for a while and tried numerous different roms and kernels. Each have slightly different responses and it depends on your tinkering desire.
I push my tab to the limits and try to do everything it wasn't originally designed for. Unfortunately....a lot of reading.
At any rate, my life changing functions were very quick access to RDP and VNC to home computers. I can also view my home security video cameras from the tab.
SSH to my phone is another plus for me.
I'm still contemplating attempting to install Linux on the tab as well.

I have it installed in an image loop and up and running fine on my B80 SBK2. It is slow and doesn't have any sound and I can't figure out what to do next in terms of getting a decent speed from it because there is pretty much no information out there other than getting it running. I know decent speed is possible because I had a WebTop phone.

Tell me more on your tether issue. I tether the tf to my phone using built in tether function through the aopk rom. The tablet picks it up just fine. There is a lot of confusion between adhoc and infrastructure mode also but there are a lot of articles on the subject.
Define what you want to do and what way you want the data to flow would help out for a better answer I think.

hey tom, I think I have solved my problem, I applied the suplicant fix that was in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438297
and it has been working since, I havnt used it too much yet but so far so good
was that what you were going to suggest to me?
My phone is a rooted tmobile vibrant running tmobile web , I dont have a native tether app on this rom and I didnt want to mess with my phone much either. (been over a year since I installed a rom or even wiped, its getting too old for me to want to invest time into it)

I have heard this option many times but for quite some time ago when I was using Wifi tether for root users on the phone I had to select galaxy nexus cdma and netd master so the tablet would recognize.
Now things are becoming different such as the aopk rom and I use them on both the tf and my samsung fascinate. I stopped using the separate tether app since the built in function did all the same things.
I personally suggest a rom like this to make sure your phone and tablet can all peform the same functions.
Glad it worked for you though.

[Q] In your opinion what is the best ROM for the Galaxy Blaze 4G?

Hey guys,
I frequent the EVO forums since my current phone is the EVO 3D. My best friend has a Blaze 4G, which I rooted for him about a month ago. I know nothing of current Samsung ROMs and while I could search and read every thread in the Blaze section, I was hoping you guys could save me some time.
General requirements for any ROM to be considered:
1) Must have working camera/camcorder (He has a 7 year old daughter he just got custody of and Dads gonna want to take pictures.)
2) Must be "Stable". My friend is a great guy but not a computer/phone savvy as I am...I don't want his phone to **** the bed while I'm at work, I'd feel like an uber douche.
Please in your responses include any pro's/ con's and why YOU like it...Thanks a ton

I understand completely what you are saying about a rom for your friends Blaze. I would recommend Dark KNight Build 8 and Tweaked ROM. Both are stable and run well. I have been using Dark Knight since the day it hit. No force closes, no random reboots, everything is working fine. Tweaked is also very stable and everything works. Also I would recommend flashing the scorched kernel as well.
Hope this helps
I agree, tweaked and dknight are probably your best options, although I think there is JMT, but I have never tried that.
Let me ask you though. Is there a reason your friend does not want the stock rom? If he's not to tech savvy as you say, if it were my friend I would let him stick with stock, all the roms have there small issues. And although some may not bother me, it may be something your friend would rather not deal with. Having said that, after setting up dknight with the torched kernel and running for quite some time now, I have not had any problems.

He wants something different. From what I've read about the Blaze 4G and its users y'all have the same issue EVO 3D users had with regards to ICS update (We were told Q1 2012...didn't get an official OTA until 7/31). We will hang out, drink some cold beers and he will play with my phone and say "Damn, Chris...I wish my phone would do that" or "Hey Chris...you think you can make my phone do *insert cm9/10 feature here*" So a few weeks ago I went ahead and rooted his phone, he loves that HE is in control of his device...even if he has no idea what it can do. I set up Titanium for him and did a NANDROID backup so that if something went wrong he has a known good flash point. He knows that when in doubt, don't mess with it or call me and we will go through it together. So in fairness to him, he is savvy enough to know not to really mess with it until he more knowledgeable...
Besides all that the man couldn't type until I got him addicted to a MySpace app, I am hoping that once he sees what his device can do with some mods he will take interest the same way and learns to do this for himself...just gotta get him that first hit ya know

[Q] V6 Supercharger

What exactly is it and where can I get it? Checked play store and nothing... thanks in advance.

V6 is a pretty impressive collection of mods and tweaks. I tried it, didn't like it, removed it. In all honestly it bogged down my phone immediately after installing.
Thanks for the link... seems like something pretty good. Although I have modded, hacked, and tweaked my phone and had almost similar experience with my PSP, running scripts always makes me nervous... maybe I'll just wait til I get up enough nerve to do it just like rooting and installing custom ROMs. Always ends up being way easier than I thought by the time I actually do it!
Sent from my iPhone ...psyche!
Lol if i could install and setup v6 then ANYONE can! It actually has a very well put together setup UI. It walks you through everything step by step and you get to choose what mods you want to activate. A lot of people here have great experiences with that tweak, my phone just didn't like it.
Also, check out wolfscript. Its a much smaller package but i found it quite effective. I flashed it and my phone has received a note worthy boost in performance
So I found wolfscript and dl'd the new version... its been about an hour and yes it does seem to have made my G2x snappier
I might just leave this phone the way it is now if it ever goes back to my wife instead of flashing it back to stock/rooted!
Sent from my now snappier with wolfscript G2x
ok.... now the question is what exactly is 'Seeder entropy generator' (which came with wolfscript) and how does it reduce lag if wolfscript already does?
thanks again to all!!!
Honestly...couldn't tell ya. Its meant to help those who use their phones to play games defeat lag. I don't use it often. Only feature that i actively use is the "boost" or "adrenaline" feature which merely helps clear up some ram by killing unnecessary background apps.
To use boost open terminal emulator and enter 'su' to grant super user permissions and then enter 'boost.'

[Q] Help! Please....HELP!!! Mysteriously UNROOTED

I am having anissue...sch-1535...d2vzw....whatever it needs to be called...running du_d2vzw_2013-10-14
Was attempting to backup everything with TiBu...... (was sooo pumped to flash KitKang, been running Dirty Unicorn 4.3.1 for about a week; loved it, just relatively new to all of this, only had a gs3 since September... so proverbial noob, although not naive...)..... upgraded to TiBu Pro when it said I did not have enough free storage available to batch backup apps/system data... which of course was bogus. Checked the forums and tried to update SuperSU permissions, was redirected to Playstore for some sort of update; next thing I know, this bad boy is briefly rebooted into recovery and now.....alas, I evidently no longer have root permissions............?????....!!!????asdfasf asfgawo asfasgh
I would really appreciate some help; I have already tried to flash SuperSU update or whatever; I have also even tried to (re?)root with Casual (which is what I used the first and only other time I rooted my phone to flash JellyBeans b_19 a few weeks after I got the phone for $0.97 at wally world) and that did not work...
I am completely cool at this point with doing a factory wipe and flashing from scratch, I just don't want to do that yet because I lack the confidence in myself. I feel like I have learned about as much as I could have in the past couple months, and while this site is incredible, there seems to be a lot of cooks in the kitchen telling me 9 ways to skin a cat (to no fault of their own... if anything it's on me for being ill-equip to decipher and filter the signals through the noise...) and I could realllly use a helping hand here.
I'd like to end this saga with first an apology; my rambling is probably adding unneeded information and leaving out more vital details that would better help my future hero, and for that I am sorry and appreciate your patience.... and secondly, I would like to thank everyone who is involved with the development, maintenance, and everything else Android... you fellas are brilliant, and it is not enough to thank you for facilitating me with a hobby/passion, however new and freshly planted this obsession of mine may be; THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what all you have done.
Proper way to fix in this case is probably to flash your same ROM again , just dirty flash it. If that doesn't work then try to settle a bit and explain in English clearly what you have done so far step by step. Or you can just go into recovery, wipe everything and flash your chosen ROM fresh.
Thanks for answering, Doc, and sorry for the inane illustration of immediately inept, irritatingly irrational, illusion-ed illiteracy I illustrated inside the earlier invoice.... I was flipping out because the last thing I want is a to deal with some bootloop.
It's the little things, evidently; I had thought I was flashing the most recent version of SuperSU: Wrong. Reflashed the newest update, cleared cache/dalvik... and now I am golden. Thank you sir.
While I am typing, would you or anyone have an opinion on the most "solid/functional/reliable/dependable" 4.3(+) ROM available? Like I said, I have been using Dirty Unicorns 4.3.1 and while it was almost excellent, I prefer to be able to utilize xposed or something similar for functions such as LMT, etc... thanks!

The most functional , stable , fully features ROMs for the Verizon S3 are the custom TW ROMs. . Lots of good ones, I have personally used Hyperdrive,, Synergy and Jelly "Beans" They are all great, each with a different mix of features and custom settings. "beans" release 20 is new this week and has the xposed framework.
Thanks! I got flash antsy and while I was looking at liquidsmooth 2.10, I noticed that 2.37 had just been posted no sooner than 3 hours before...to which I declared it fate and have been happily running that ever since. Very seldomly, it procures minor hiccups...but I love it. I have been reading a few things about beans_20 that have made me think I need to wait just a bit for all the kinks/fixes to be registered before diving in. I'd imagine that within a few weeks there will be some sort of 4.4 that can be a DD with enough customizable options to keep me busy...I'm hopefull anyway.
