Hi, folks!
Nowadays, living outside the USA and purchased Thunderbolt as my second phone. In my country there're CDMA providers using 1x and EvDo tecnologies.
For previous models like Droid 2 etc updating PRL from CDMA Workshop or QPST working brilliant. BTW, is there such option in ThunderBolt to update PRL via workshop.
One more question as about 4G sim card. Does ThunderBolt works without it in Verizon network (even not 4G speed)
THX
The sim is required to use the.phone
The phone auto updates the prl upon reboot
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
In other hands, it can easily enters the ##DIAG mode, gonna try it today or maybe tomorrow.
Will see
Have purchased RUIM card, voice is working, data is not,
Phone indicates on the lock screen "This SIM Card doesn't recognized (emergency calls only" but all voice calls are perfect.
Gonna think a little bit much more
Phone always try to use unexistant 4G data connection, tried to put it in only EvDo mode, all stuff is configured correctly in RUIM, checked it via ##778, but ThunderBolt never tries to connect via EvDo

No, it will not work on VZW's network without the SIM card, for the same reason it will not work on any other CDMA network at all. The TB is not a true CDMA phone in that it does not have an MEID number, which is the number that is hard coded and unique to every CDMA handset. Every phone has to have a unique identifier in order for the cell phone network to be able to identify that network device (otherwise the network would not have a clue who is talking to it, and vice-versa your phone would not know when it is being spoken to). In the case of the TB, this unique identifier is stored in the SIM card, not on the phone itself.
VZW is running a hybrid system of sorts in that the VZW system is generating an internal MEID for the TB for when it is on the CDMA network based on the SIM card that is currently installed in it. Without the sim card your phone has no ID, and without the verizon back end no CDMA network can translate the unique identifier on your SIM card into a usable MEID.

Man, thank you for your reply, but as I say, I have purchased a RUIM card (looks like the sim card) from my local operator, everythins is OK except data. I mean I can easily call or receive a call or texe message, but data isn't working properly.
Moreover, can confirm that I can update network settings via ##778# (will see in snapshots). What is the way to make my data connection workin?
All additinal info with the proof of working in third party CDMA networks in the attachements.
I have alot of experience with things like this as I used to bring my Verizon phones to China when I visited my father. What you are going to need to do is find your providers settings and program them in via QPST. Once you get that all setup then you should be ok. That's how I do it atleast. I have a Thunderbolt as well and I thought about poking around with it the other day and then I connected it in CDMA Workshop to see whats in there.
So the thunderbolt can work with the RUIM card, if i get the ruim card..Can i change the prl on the thunderbolt since i cant change it on the verizon sim card

VDUB804 & asteven23 , can you guys share any info on how this was done please. i want to get TB on Sprint. I have experience repairing meid on the evo, i've done a few successfully with 3g and everything working. do i need to set the phone to requestnvitemwrite 0x2a then write the esn over using qpst since it does not actually have a 0xa1 meid or does it? on the evo you have to find all the MEIDs and ESNs, zero out, then flash. also would updating all the info under the mip tab get 3g to work...any help would be greatly appreciated guys. thanks.
Well I recently purchased a G2x and I wanted to use the phone on the Simple Mobile Network, but when I put the sim card in and power on the phone it states "Invalid Sim Card" now when I contacted LG about this their tech support stated that I need a new sim card, but that makes no sense because the sim card works on other phones so as you can see I'm at a loss as what to do or what could be wrong. I've included what it shows as far as the system information that I see. Also I should mention that the phone starts up fine, but it never requests an unlock code??
Android Version-2.3.3

Any help in any way would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance
First of all this is P990 forum the P999 can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1114
Are you sure that it works with other carriers than T-mobile? If you are sure, replace your SIM card.
I have no problem with simple mobile, try a new sim
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Did you unlock the device? It may need to be unlocked for your Simple Mobile SIM...
The phone has been unlocked and the crazy part is that I put a brand new sim card in it and it still would come up as no sim card. So I'm at at a loss now because the only sim that seemed to respond was tmobile, but the ones I used from simple mobile would not be read.
Go to the Dev section and look at CWM. Make your phone bullet proof first.
Then in CWM wipe everything but the SD card. If you need help let us know. Download a rom (I use weapon) using your computer. Place it on your SD card. Load CWM. Select install zip. Select the rom on your SD card. Let it install then wait 10 minutes reboot wait five minutes then log on and enjoy.
Also look at the wind united post. It may help.
Make sure you are inserting the sim fully and it is making contact. Also sometimes it does that and reboot fixes it.
Thank you all for the info and help. I really would like to avoid having to root the phone.. I did find out though from LG that apparently these phones are having problems with the IMEI number... A representative stated to me that if the phone says "Invalid Sim" then you must contact T-Mobile so they can unlock the IMEI number, but in my case it is saying that there is "No Sim Card" I've used At&t, T-Mobile and Simple Mobile sims and it still says "No Sim Card" which leads me to believe that it is a hardware issue and I'm actually sending it in for repair....
So for any of you who get the "Invalid Sim" dont bother calling LG cause they will basically give you the shaft and send you back to T-Mobile to get the problem resolved...
Hmm......sometimes I put my sim card the wrong way which gave me invalid sim card msg..... so just double check that the cut off edge is on the right side.
Also, if your phone is indeed unlocked, try unlocking it again it would not hurt.
I would also check the radio frequencies capabilities for your phone because simple network might not support that. For example, I use wind network in canada, which uses the radio frequency equivalent of 1700, which is also compatible to t-mobile g2x.
Hope this helps.
You said it has worked with a T-mobile sim card? Are you sure? Borrow someone's sim card for a few minutes (one that has an account on it) and see if it works.
If it does than it sounds like the phone is actually locked.
If it doesn't than the phone is the problem. It's either on the wrong baseband (not 1700) or it's a hardware problem.
Honestly, even a locked T-mobile phone should work with Simple Mobile. I have set up 2 locked phones with them already (one G2x today, and one older phone) with sim cards from ebay.
So the final question is, did you buy a Simple Mobile "activation kit" or just a replacement sim card? You need a NEW, unopened sim card kit. Ebay could have sold you a previously owned one.
Hope this helps.
---------- Post added at 11:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:40 AM ----------
One more thing. If an active T-mobile card works in it you could try forcing the APN settings to Simple Mobile.
Root your phone (it's easy I promise!) There is also an unroot application you can install if you're worried. Look in the market.
Then install an app in the market called APN Manager. Delete the T-mobile APN listing. (write the t-mobile settings down so you'll be able to add it again if necessary.)
If all of this is too much for you, seriously just exchange the phone and start over. But MAKER SURE the new phone is for a USA 1700 cell phone service!

Umm......the G2x is P999.....this is the right forum section. And that forum link is to this forum section....
Also, I should add that you should be on stock ROM if your using this phone on a different carrier. The unlock menue doesn't show up on CM7....unless they've changed something int he past couple months.
Well I've sent in the phone for repair so hopefully I get this resolved at some point, but thanks everyone for the info I'll keep you updated.
Hi,
I have a verizon lg Spectrum vs920 that I would like to use on android $55.00 cricket plan. I just recently got it flashed by a professional via remote flash. Everything seems fine on the phone. Checked the settings a million time. I am not a complete noob at flashing as I have done a lot of phones before. But my experience stops at Motorola Razr days. I haven't been in touch with the flashing market since than. I tried to do the phone myself but realized how far those phones has come.
Anyway, I tried to do a esn change but the phone itself has only IMEI number and cricket has to have MEID number. I tried to do a conversion using a ESN converter but initially I didn't get any result. So, I did the conversion with out the last number of the IMEI (read it somewhere, don't remember right now). I gave the Cricket rep the conversion result, they put it in to the system but the phone didn't work. So, I called back and talk to their tech support. According to them, phone won't work because it has a Sim card in it.
My questions to you guys is,
Has anyone actually ever used this phone with cricket service?
Can it be used with the Sim card in it?
As this phone won't dial *228 and you can not access the service menu, how do you activate this phone?
What exactly should I give the cricket rep when I call the next time.
I noticed the flash didn't set any sid,Nid number, could that be the problem?
I hate to spend another 15.00 and not get the phone going. Please let me know as much as you can about the activation process while I do a little more checking on the settings to see the problem could have been with the phone and not the activation process.
Thanks in advance.
IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO LTE ON AN AT&T PHONE, YOU DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A SIM CARD THAT WILL FIT IN THE N5, YOUR SIM IS LTE CAPABLE AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET THE RIGHT DATA PROVISION. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET A NEW SIM!!!!!!!
This happened when the N4 came out and I came to the rescue far too many times to count...and I've already started to read threads about it so here we go!
You just bought an N5 and are either worried about getting LTE or can't get LTE connectivity on your N5. It's a really big issue with a really simple solution. You need to make sure of a few things.
1. You have a SIM that can receive LTE frequency
2. Your data plan is a LTE provisioned plan
3. Your APNs include an LTE ANP
1 & 2 can be solved at the same time and 3 should solve itself in most cases.
Here's the big issue: AT&T doesn't have a data provision for the N5 (or the N4). Your customer service rep will take the IMEI number from your phone when you ask for a new SIM and it will come back with their basic GSM plan by default. This caused awful data speeds on the N4 and will disallow LTE on the N5 so you need to inform them that this will happen before they go through the process. A nice rep will understand. An unknowledgeable rep will claim there is nothing they can do. Ask to speak to the manager. If none of them can help, take your new LTE capable SIM and walk away.
Now after you leave the store call up customer service and tell them you just got a new *insert LTE capable AT&T device here* and you can't find the IMEI number. Tell them you tried to go into the store and they were unhelpful so you're calling. The person will immediately become helpful and generate an IMEI number. They will provision your data using said serial number and you'll be good to go.
BEFORE inserting your SIM, start up your N5. Go through the setup process that you have to go through and then turn it back off. Plug in your SIM and reboot.
Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > more > Mobile Networks > Access point Names. In there you should see an AT&T LTE APN and it should be already selected. If not, select it. This should be all you need to do. It really is that simple.
NOTES:
- All SIMs that fit in the N4 and N5 are LTE capable
- Here is what your AT&T APN should look like
- If you have any issues, post and I'll do my best to help
As always, Thanks are appreciated.
So even if the rep in store "can't help" I'll still walk out with the SIM card I need? Also, If I don't have my N5/IMEI in hand when I go in can I still setup a plan and get a SIM card? Thanks for the post!
EDIT: Going in with no phone I don't know rather to tell them I have a N5 coming or try to find a friends that will give me their IMEI that I can give them...
You'll get a SIM card no matter what because those are free...it just won't be provisioned properly unless you get a knowledgeable rep.
Having an IMEI in hand makes life easier; having your N5 will make it way easier. The SIM needs to be activated in the store and they will need an IMEI to activate. Just wait till you get your N5 to go through all this. It won't do anything to help you until you get it.
The IMEI will be on the SIM tray!

Ok, I will wait until Wednesday to go in then...one last thing, if it gets to the point I have to call ATT, when I say I can't find the IMEI won't they just tell me to flip the phone over or look in the settings, etc.. instead of generating one?
No.
They will ask you if there is a barcode / serial thing on the back of your device. You say no. Boom, done.
edit: don't forget to hit the thanks button!
So just going in and asking to exchange your sim for a micro sim isn't enough?
I have a note 3 right now with 4g. I was going to use the same Sim card in the note and put in the N5. Should it work out of the box or do I still have to take it in the store? How will I know that I have a an imei card?

No. The SIM must be activated and an IMEI is required to activate.

Do you have a SIM that will fit in the N5? If not, follow my steps. If so, skip ahead to calling AT&T customer support because ALL MICRO SIMS ARE LTE CAPABLE.
What do you mean by an IMEI card? All phones come with an IMEI.
great. AT&T why are you so terrible.

Hey guys I'm going to switching to straight talk att am I ordered the lte micro sim from them and plan to activate tomorrow should I expect to jump through hoops to get lte or expect the same issues as att users...not sure this is my first try at prepaid
same things will happen. You'll need to get an LTE data provision but will be unable to using your N5 IMEI

If you have 4g on your note 3 it means you already have a LTE data plan. All you need to do is take the sim out of your note 3 and pop it into your n5, no need to call anyone or make an unnecessary trip to the store.
4g =/= LTE in AT&Ts case. 4g can mean HSPA+ 4g!
If you have access to LTE currently YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING.

If you have a device and you can't find the IMEI, just go to the settings and about device to view it.. Wouldn't they ask you to do that?
Look, I know you want to dumb down stuff and give advise but some of it is just incorrect, not dumbed down.
Dial *#06# on any Android smartphone and it'll display the IMEI.

It's possible that the reps @ the AT&T Stores in different areas aren't properly keying the IMEI in properly. If at all possible have them SCAN the IMEI barcode on the back of the phone.
I went down to the AT&T store here locally (Bay Area, CA) and the only problem I had in the process was a 30 minute wait to see one of the reps.
I was previously on an unlimited data plan that I've had setup since I got my original iPhone 3G - 5 years ago. NOT an LTE plan by any stretch.
He went in the back and grabbed the sim and started the process of adding it to the account.
He scanned the sim and then scanned my phone -- It CORRECTLY recognized the device as a D820 **AND** automatically updated my data plan to the LTE Unlimited.
The only thing the rep had to do was press confirm a number of times. Not once did he have to manually adjust anything.
We waited about 5 minutes for the sim to activate, slipped it into my N5 and powered it up - Instant LTE service.
So AT&T *does* have the IMEI Registered for the N5 with a corresponding LTE Plan. If someone is trying to key it in and getting an error.. they're likely not typing something correctly.
I'm already using a note 3 on at&t with LTE already enabled on my plan. Also,my note 3 already uses a micro-SIM. I should be good to just swap my SIM into the n5 right? I have written down the default AT&T APN just in case it gets list on the n5.

Starting this October, PagePlus is offering 4G/LTE. Initially, I was assuming that all I need to do is plug in an LTE SIM card and activate account, and all will be peachy. However, it seems that by flashing phone to pageplus when it looks like a 3g device, I have messed up some radio settings, and verizon provisioning doesn't work, phone repeatedly keeps trying to call *228. Contrary to that, the other S3, which I didn't flash does not call at all, but instead pops up message box stating that the phone is being programmed, and after a couple minutes it's online . I do not remember what exactly did I program, it was awhile ago . Pageplus support knows that problem, and they are advising anybody who wants to go LTE to bring up an unflashed phone, saying the flashed one won't work
There are folks on kitty forums who offer remote de-flashing for 30 bucks, but no description what actually they do. Does anyone know what the process is? I can get my phone into QPST/DFS. Anyone knows what to do next?
UPDATE: see post #3 for solution
Can't help you with deflashing, but I will tell you that my local page plus vendor did mine for free and it only took him about 5-10 minutes. Maybe yours would do the same. Just a thought.

I guess it indeed is simple once you get to QPST mode. I used DFS to program, and the only setting I had to change was RuimConfig = RuimOnly (from NV_ONLY), see screenshot attached. Did not work on 4.0 firmware which I tried to use first, but worked fine on 4.2.1 and 4.1.2.
I got a sim card for my phone. All I did was verify that my phone was on RuimOnly (it already was), then I contacted PagePlus to activate my simcard (you're supposed to do this before you put it in your phone, they say) and they remotely programmed the phone, everything went smoothly. I have 4g data now, no "unflashing" required. Pretty easy. :good:
You put it on your phone before, you want this set up, then you can use the phone, so no problem.
Confirmed
I can confirm this works. I switched 2 samsung galaxy note 2 SCH-i605 from 3g to 4g.
The phones were originally flashed over to pageplus using wireless workshop. This puts them on pageplus as 3g phones. They drop the last digit of the MEID so it is a 14 digit code (3g) instead of 15 digit for 4G.
Here's what I did to get 4G LTE working.
Ordered a pageplus SIM card from pageplus
put the simcard in the phone
Used DFS to change RUIM from NV_Only to RUIM_only
Contacted Pageplus on chat and had them change my phone from 3g to 4g. I'm not sure exactly what they did, but I gave them the 15 digit MEID and the SIM ICCID (printed on the sim card you get, or look in settings, about device, details or something like that, you know where to look. ) The customer service rep said that what you need to tell them is you want to change a 3g phone to 4g. I told them it was back to standard firmware just to make them happy. It seems the RUIM changes is all you need.
Voila! Reboot the phone, give it a minute - it connects to 4G and then disconnects and looks like it has failed, but give it a minute and it comes up with 4G LTE and speedtest.net confirms it is blazing fast.
Loving it!
This is only required for a verizon phone that has been flashed in the past to make 3g work on Pageplus. Not needed on contract phones from verizon that are originally 4g.
Happy downloading!

Gift for a friend
hi everyone,
I have a few questions based on my circumstances. I just deactivated a S3 Verizon from PagePlus which was flashed to 3g. I would like to hand my phone off to a friend as he's running a Droid X (!).
1. From what I understand to "unflash" I need to use DFS (cdmatool.com) and set Ruim config to RuimOnly. However, I believe the phone needs to be in QPST mode? I'm not entirely sure how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2. Since I already deactivated the phone, when my friend tries to re-activate on pageplus (with a new SIM), do we need to contact PP and tell them this device is now 4g?
3. Does it matter that I have a custom ROM running 4.3? I don't think so, but would like confirmation.
I really don't want to mess up this gift.
Thanks for any and all advice!
