d2vzw: Unflash from PagePlus procedure - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Starting this October, PagePlus is offering 4G/LTE. Initially, I was assuming that all I need to do is plug in an LTE SIM card and activate account, and all will be peachy. However, it seems that by flashing phone to pageplus when it looks like a 3g device, I have messed up some radio settings, and verizon provisioning doesn't work, phone repeatedly keeps trying to call *228. Contrary to that, the other S3, which I didn't flash does not call at all, but instead pops up message box stating that the phone is being programmed, and after a couple minutes it's online . I do not remember what exactly did I program, it was awhile ago . Pageplus support knows that problem, and they are advising anybody who wants to go LTE to bring up an unflashed phone, saying the flashed one won't work
There are folks on kitty forums who offer remote de-flashing for 30 bucks, but no description what actually they do. Does anyone know what the process is? I can get my phone into QPST/DFS. Anyone knows what to do next?
UPDATE: see post #3 for solution

Can't help you with deflashing, but I will tell you that my local page plus vendor did mine for free and it only took him about 5-10 minutes. Maybe yours would do the same. Just a thought.

I guess it indeed is simple once you get to QPST mode. I used DFS to program, and the only setting I had to change was RuimConfig = RuimOnly (from NV_ONLY), see screenshot attached. Did not work on 4.0 firmware which I tried to use first, but worked fine on 4.2.1 and 4.1.2.

I got a sim card for my phone. All I did was verify that my phone was on RuimOnly (it already was), then I contacted PagePlus to activate my simcard (you're supposed to do this before you put it in your phone, they say) and they remotely programmed the phone, everything went smoothly. I have 4g data now, no "unflashing" required. Pretty easy. :good:

You put it on your phone before, you want this set up, then you can use the phone, so no problem.

Confirmed
I can confirm this works. I switched 2 samsung galaxy note 2 SCH-i605 from 3g to 4g.
The phones were originally flashed over to pageplus using wireless workshop. This puts them on pageplus as 3g phones. They drop the last digit of the MEID so it is a 14 digit code (3g) instead of 15 digit for 4G.
Here's what I did to get 4G LTE working.
Ordered a pageplus SIM card from pageplus
put the simcard in the phone
Used DFS to change RUIM from NV_Only to RUIM_only
Contacted Pageplus on chat and had them change my phone from 3g to 4g. I'm not sure exactly what they did, but I gave them the 15 digit MEID and the SIM ICCID (printed on the sim card you get, or look in settings, about device, details or something like that, you know where to look. ) The customer service rep said that what you need to tell them is you want to change a 3g phone to 4g. I told them it was back to standard firmware just to make them happy. It seems the RUIM changes is all you need.
Voila! Reboot the phone, give it a minute - it connects to 4G and then disconnects and looks like it has failed, but give it a minute and it comes up with 4G LTE and speedtest.net confirms it is blazing fast.
Loving it!
This is only required for a verizon phone that has been flashed in the past to make 3g work on Pageplus. Not needed on contract phones from verizon that are originally 4g.
Happy downloading!

Gift for a friend
hi everyone,
I have a few questions based on my circumstances. I just deactivated a S3 Verizon from PagePlus which was flashed to 3g. I would like to hand my phone off to a friend as he's running a Droid X (!).
1. From what I understand to "unflash" I need to use DFS (cdmatool.com) and set Ruim config to RuimOnly. However, I believe the phone needs to be in QPST mode? I'm not entirely sure how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2. Since I already deactivated the phone, when my friend tries to re-activate on pageplus (with a new SIM), do we need to contact PP and tell them this device is now 4g?
3. Does it matter that I have a custom ROM running 4.3? I don't think so, but would like confirmation.
I really don't want to mess up this gift.
Thanks for any and all advice!

Cricket Activation Question

Hi,
I have a verizon lg Spectrum vs920 that I would like to use on android $55.00 cricket plan. I just recently got it flashed by a professional via remote flash. Everything seems fine on the phone. Checked the settings a million time. I am not a complete noob at flashing as I have done a lot of phones before. But my experience stops at Motorola Razr days. I haven't been in touch with the flashing market since than. I tried to do the phone myself but realized how far those phones has come.
Anyway, I tried to do a esn change but the phone itself has only IMEI number and cricket has to have MEID number. I tried to do a conversion using a ESN converter but initially I didn't get any result. So, I did the conversion with out the last number of the IMEI (read it somewhere, don't remember right now). I gave the Cricket rep the conversion result, they put it in to the system but the phone didn't work. So, I called back and talk to their tech support. According to them, phone won't work because it has a Sim card in it.
My questions to you guys is,
Has anyone actually ever used this phone with cricket service?
Can it be used with the Sim card in it?
As this phone won't dial *228 and you can not access the service menu, how do you activate this phone?
What exactly should I give the cricket rep when I call the next time.
I noticed the flash didn't set any sid,Nid number, could that be the problem?
I hate to spend another 15.00 and not get the phone going. Please let me know as much as you can about the activation process while I do a little more checking on the settings to see the problem could have been with the phone and not the activation process.
Thanks in advance.

Can't Dial Out or Receive Calls

My husband finally let me root and rom his S3 (I have a Gnex). Unlocking the bootloader and rooting (using Odin) went well. When I installed SlimBean+GApps, however, we started having an issue. He kept losing 3 & 4G signal. We didn't know about the roaming issue, so I had not backed up the IMEI. I flashed Clean Rom, and the issue is partially fixed.
The phone's signal is fine now, 3-4 bars 4G most of the time. The trouble is, we can't dial out to any numbers, and any calls to the phone go straight to voicemail. We've pulled the sim card and let it sit for a bit, but that didn't help. Dialing *228 (as Verizon tech support had him do about 4,583 times) just brings up a message about the phone being activated by the sim card, and roaming capabilities being updated. All tech support had to say was that Google Voice was probably the problem, even though we've both had it for ages with zero issues. :/
Any ideas? I don't really want to unroot and take it in to the Verizon store, but I will if there is no alternative.
EDIT: Just discovered that 4G is only working when "Preferred network mode" is set to Global, rather than LTE/CDMA.
*228 is for 3g phones only, it does absolutely nothing for LTE sim phones. Here's your solution btw.
I knew it! I kept telling them I didn't think that was supposed to do anything when I have a sim card. Crazy first string tech support. They also didn't know my battery was removable.
Will try the things listed in that link, thanks.

Haha Verizon lost credibility with me when I rented their global phone for travel last summer and when I got back to the US the instructions to get my GSIII working began with dialing *228. There wasn't even a warning about it being unnecessary for LTE sim phones.
Good luck and let me know how that goes.

[Q] Verizon S3, made to work on nTelos..but want it back to verizon.

es.. I'm a n00b...
I recently bought (extremely cheap) a Samsung Galaxy s3 that someone said they had sent off to have flashed to work on nTelos. What I want to do I can't seem to find any information on... I want to reset everything to go back to Verizon (since I already am on Verizon for work).
Since the person had all their accounts on the phone I first did a factory wipe... which then wanted me to activate the phone
So I went to Verizon worked with the rep there and they had no luck getting the phone activated (duh), but they did give me a sim card to use for when I get things back to normal on the phone.
I then have been researching all this morning to try and figure this all out. I followed the steps outlined here in section 5:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...94&postcount=1
Right now the phone is sitting on a screen that says "Please wait while your phone connects to Verizon Wireless and automatically activates" Over the phone speaker however I can hear a recording saying "to make a collect call to a Mobile phone or land line phone press 1, to purchase a prepaid pin with your credit card press 2, for free directory assistance from a live operator and a chance to win a $100 Wal-Mart gift card dial 411" so on and so forth lol
I pulled the SIM card out and selected use Wi-Fi Only for now and can now get in to the menus so see information
Phone info:
Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3
SCH-I535
12.09 535V 16GB
Android version 4.1.1
Baseband version I535VRBLK3
Kernel version
3.0.31-381038

SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 30 15:52:16 KST
2012
Build Number
JRO03L.I535VRBLK3
Hardware Version
I535.10
Under the Status Window there is quite a bit of information.. not sure what anyone would need from it, the IMEI number does match if that makes a difference. Baseband version was confirmed correct by Verizon as I535VRBLK3
Even with the above done verizon seems to be clueless on why it won't activate
Other options would be:
screw it not use it on verizon, mod for straighttalk if possible give to fiancee
sell it and make money off of it
ok some oddities...
just for s&g I took an AT&T sim (from my sons iPhone 4s) put it in the phone and switched to GSM / UMTS and was able to place a call and send text messages out...????
I have since put it back to LTE / CDMA and still have no luck with this damned verizon sim.
I've been looking around all day & night trying to figure out what could possibly be causing this phone to be blocked on Verizon and haven't found a thing
oddly looking at the status screen (with the sim out) it has a phone number embedded in it and a MIN number that also looks like a local phone number here.
for now I am giving up the search and going to sleep

CDMA
I actually just for the heck of it dialed 611 on the phone and sure enough it is flashed for nTelos as the automated system came up on the phone as nTelos.
as I said my main thing is just getting it flashed back to Verizon... what a pain lol
I can find info all day long on different builds of android and rooting and etc... but nothing for carrier switches (for the verizon version at least)
just an update:
I received the replacement glass in last night and replaced it, wanted to make sure I didn't ruin the phone further before I switched it over fully lol.
in the mean time I have rooted and done a ton of stuff to the phone and have most of the methods down pretty well.... I'm going in to the Verizon store today to try and see if they can take a working SIM and put it in the phone to test with and then from there try to get an active SIM for my phone going since they cant seem to activate over the air.
one note however is I'm disappointed because in the process of rooting I lost the Best Face Feature on the camera app lol... that was a really great feature and I need to try working on getting it back.
Tried to use a known working Verizon sim today with no luck there is something deeper in this phone preventing it from getting off ntelos on to Verizon

If its flashed to Ntelos and its CDMA, you will have to get it flashed back to verizon to get it to work

I downloaded some cdma tools program and was trying to find a way to do this and seen a couple of tutorials but everything was going to another network not to Verizon. The original settings didn't get shown in some of the tutorials I seen.
Try to see if tbis thread helps any

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The key to this however is to have a working SIM, I fashioned a nano SIM to mini SIM adapter and got the info on to the phone then my phone could finally be activated however the nano SIM I used got tied to my phone and couldn't be put back to the iPhone 5 it came from lmao... so I had to run to the Verizon store to get my co-workers phone re-activated.

[Q] Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3-SCH-I535-Unlocking

I am by far no where near the caliber of technology that lie within this web site, however, I am simply trying to get some direction regarding my S3.
I purchased it from Verizon-2 yrs ago, contract expired 7/8/13; did not renew. I went with Consumer Cellular (more fitting for the older generation) but my S3 WON'T WORK ON THEIR NETWORK!
I have spent the last 3 weeks doing research on this phone to see if it can be 'unlocked' to work with a another carrier. The phone is like brand new and I don't want to get rid of it, I'd prefer to use it with the new carrier.
Is there anyone who can give me some direction to this issue? Can the phone infact be "unlocked' to work with Consumer, it has the Verizon SIM card in it, I was able to root it, successfully, now if I can just get it unlocked. Had to purchase another phone so that I would not be without phone service while I work on trying to get this one unlocked.
I've been told it can't because Verizon is a CDMA carrier and Consumer is a GSM..if this in fact true than I've no options but to sell the phone.
I do have "Preferred Network Mode' and it gives me the following options, Global, LTE/CDMA & GSM/UMTS.
Any help, directions or information would be greatly appreciated. With my thanks to all those who have taken the time to read this post.

How did you get this phone 2 years ago? It barely came out a little more than a year ago.
Next, you can unlock it, but only if you pay for the full retail for the phone and then contact Verizon about what you want to do and then get an unlock code. After that, you're going to need a SIM card from Consumer Cellular.
There shouldn't be a problem with radio frequencies since the Verizon GS3 is a global phone. So the SIM card should work after you get it set up.
If I'm wrong in some aspect, someone feel free to correct me.

In regards to Unlocking the phone, the phone is unlocked out of the box, you just pop in your sim and select GSM mode! you have to set the APN for DATA yourself tho!

Hi:
I do not recall the date of purchase but know that when I purchased it I had to sign for a 2 yr contract with Verizon..that contract was up July 8,2013.
That is not important, what is important is to find out if in fact the phone can be unlocked, VERIZON swears it is unlocked so they are not going to be of any use to me to get their help. It is up to me to find someone who can unlock this phone via a cable. The code places I have contacted can't come up with a code, they have instructed me that it needs to be done with a cable.
As I stated, I am simply trying to get the phone unlocked to use on Consumer Celluar, of which I am already a memeber and have the SIM card activated on another SAMSUNG phone of which I had to buy.
I do not have to buy the phone outright, as the phone is paid for, thus the 2 yr contract. the phone is mine, but as long as it is in the state it is now, I can only use it on VERIZON.
The I535 has a sim card in it from Verizon, when I take out the Verizon SIM card and put in the Consumer SIM card I get the message, "this is a non verizon SIM card.
I am researching this everyday to find out if IT CAN BE UNLOCKED, AND #2 WHO CAN I GET TO UNLOCK IT? Verizon went so far as to tell me that all the person needs is a USB cable and PC...how true this is, I don't know.
Thank You

Verizon is right by saying its unlocked, and thats the most anyone can help you, if you are going to try unlocking the phone by cable, you might as well throw money down the drain! and 2 you need to update to the MF1 software! as MB1 and MD3 would tell you its non verizon sim card, but even on that update if you put the phone in GSM mode in Network settings the phone should work fine for calling and texting!
having the same issue, if you find out anything will you please let me know how to do this too. i would greatly appriciate it
SIM
Did you get the free Consumer Cellular SIM yet? Your post said you have rooted and have the Verizon SIM, and you can't get on CC network without their SIM card.
The phone is already "unlocked" for global/GSM use with the JB update, so you should be able to just pop in a SIM card from CC and change settings (they should provide you with this info).
A lot of ppl are saying the Verizon GS3 is already unlocked, but when i pop in my metro pcs sim card and switch network to cdma, nothing happens. What would I have to do to make it work with this metro carrier?
No Data, No Voice, No SMS
Hi. Im also having the same issue. I have a Verizon GS3 that was originally running 4.0.4, VRALHE. I rooted, updated the baseband to MF1, and installed RLS16 of Hyperdrive, so I now am on 4.1.2. I have the option to go GSM or Global, but when I put in my MetroPCS sim, I get nothing. It prompts me for Global, but I cant make calls or send sms. I also put in the APN and no data as well. Anyone know whatbI should do next? I have an IMEI, it doesnt appear to be lost, and I have tried the phone info app, as well as trying to go through the secret menu, the network lock menu is blank.
Hey, I got the same problem, and considering how it's been a while since the last post I wonder if there is any new news on this front. Thanx!
P.s: It came preinstalled with 4.3 stock, not rooted yet. I have the option to instal 4.4.2 via Kies {PDA:NE1 / PHONE:NE1 / CSC:NE1 (VZW)}.
Update here:
I digged into some settings and found that switching it into either Global or GSM seems to make the phone capable of voice calls.
Idk about 3G, I did manually type in the APN settings, but I never use anything other than wifi because internet here is expensive unless you go with one of their plans.
So if you haven't tried it, on 4.3 go to settings, under wireless and networks select 'More Settings', Mobile Networks, Network Mode.
Worked for me, although I still get "Non-Verizon SIM" in the notifications bar and it looks like my signal is a bit weaker than before. But still works.
guys you are wrong
guys there is no way metropcs, Boost mobile or sprint networks Work cause these are CDMA carriers and verizon and the other CDMA Carriers has a different activation way on Verizon smartphones the GSM module(gsm networks as well) come unlocked for foreigner carriers even the GSM US carriers(AT&T or TMOBILE) sometimes doesnt work hope that info help

[GUIDE] Unlock ATT Note 3 to use on Tmobile network

EDIT: (2-16-2014- This appears to only work if the ATT note 3 is on MI9 firmware. If it has been upgraded to MJ5 firmware, RegionLock away is NOT working at the moment on MJ5 and newer firmware as of today.)
Ok, I'm a longtime lurker here. This is my first tutorial so bear with me.
I received an AT&T Note 3. I was able to unlock and use this phone on T-mobile. I want to send out a big thanks to designgears and chainfire. Without their tools, I would not have been able to do this.
Here are the steps I took:
1. I rooted using Root de la Vega. I wanted to make sure I didn't trip the KNOX counter. I found this link on one of designgears's XDA post.
http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900a The rooting tutorial on that page is very good.
2. After I rooted and confirmed that I didn't trip the KNOX counter, I proceeded to install chainfire's app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.regionlockaway
The following steps I got from this link http://androidfannetwork.com/2013/10/06/sim-unlock-t-mobile-note-3-for-free/
But I modified them because I am going from an ATT Note 3 to use on Tmobile.
3. Put the ATT SIM (unactivated, unregistered) that came in the box into the Note 3
4. Install RegionLock Away app
5. Run the app, and instead of rebooting say Reboot Later (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)
6. Power off the Note 3
7. Take out the ATT SIM and replace it with T-Mobile SIM
8. Turned on the device – BOOM! no Region Lock, and NO SIM Lock.
Drawbacks so far, I am not sure if my phone is truly on LTE. Something tells me I am only on HSPA+. Hopefully somebody can tell me how to unlock Tmobile LTE on this phone. It took me a little tinkering, but I was able to get data and mms working. I am in a refarmed area of TMobile. When I used to have a Nexus 4, I was able to access LTE from my house with a custom rom. So far, the speedtests on my note 3 are comparable to the speeds on my nexus 4 with LTE. Also, I know if I update my phone, I may lose the sim unlock. For anybody interested in which APN settings I did, I posted screen shots at the following link. http://imgur.com/a/yQiJK If you have any questions, or know how to unlock AWS on this phone for true LTE, let me know.
Just an update, in case anybody is actually reading my post. I believe my phone is truly on tmobile LTE. I ran tests in areas I know have been refarmed by tmobile. Also in my settings, under mobile network type, it says LTE. Can somebody with more knowledge confirm if this is all correct? here's the link http://imgur.com/a/2IBzA

I don't need to mess with the Region Lock stuff, but I wanted to thank someone with only 8 posts for taking the time to document their results and share them with everyone.
First off, thank you very much for your documented steps.
I am about to undergo this whole process sometime early next week, although I am still unsure about whether I will end up going with t-mobile or whether I will try out metro pcs. I know you're not on metro but do you know if the steps would be largely the same? I'm tempted to try getting an unlock straight from AT&T for the phone but I'm not sure if they would be willing.
Thanks for posting these steps! Quick question, though...
When I try to add the new APN for T-Mobile, the APN disappears when I change the MNC from 410 to 260. I can save all of the other options but once I modify the MNC it gets deleted from the phone. Anyone know what might be happening here?

Hmm, I'm not sure. Did you create a new APN? or are you editing the one that is already there? After activating my phone, I'm assuming my phone created an apn from the network. But the one my phone auto created wasn't giving me mms or LTE. So I just created a new one.

Truthfully, I wish I had seen it before I embarked on unlocking mine. anyways here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475552
acdcflame, a person in that post successfully unlocked a note 3 from ATT and is using it with metropcs. They even posted pictures of proof. You should post any questions you have over there.

So I followed your guide trying to get the note 3 on metro, my girlfriend got me the phone with her upgrade and when I requested at&t for an unlock through the website it told me I was ineligible, the phone came in an ATT box with an unactivated sim, when I put that in I get "phone not allowed MM#2". When I try my metropcs sim I get "phone not allowed MM#6", I also tried activating the phone with her at&t sim which says my phone has already been activated and works with no problems. I have an at&t N900A

WIFI tethering is blocked by tmobile. the only way to get it working is to install a rom that has hacked wifi tethering. I installed Jedi Elite V5 rom from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493795
using this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554411
And then i used this app foxfi
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en
Now WIFI tethering works for me.

Look at my previous post, it tells the steps on how to get wifi tethering working.
U only need the att sim card to get the phone to turn on. After the phone is on and u can access the play store, then insert your metro pcs sim card. Go to Google play store and install region away app. Follow rest of my instructions after that.

Thanks for the guide! Can you guys tell me if tmobile identifies the att note 3 on your "mytmobile" or does it say unidentified device? I'm asking because those of us on the old tzones internet plans are limited to certain devices we are able to use. Thanks in advance.

Actually, I am still on tzones too. My att note 3 works fine with tzones. I get LTE and it works great. Here's a screen shot showing speeds I got with it.

disconnected
i just had my att note 3 disconnected from att i had it unlocked and now i have a tmobile sim. i have not installed. i am wondering will these methods still work. if so do i follow steps or is there a thread i need to go to thanks
Should this method be working for a T-Mobile Note 3 (N900T) with a Straight Talk sim card?
I used the "easy" root on kingoapp.com since the root de la vega seemed over my head. It says that my phone was rooted properly. I then followed the steps with an unactivated t-mobile sim, installed and ran region lock away, chose reboot later, turned off, then put in the straight talk sim but I still get a sim error.
Do I need to re-root using the CF Auto Root? I downloaded the root checker app and it says that I have root access...
worked flawlessly
Thank you very much - worked flawlessly! First time doing anything like this coming from sprint Iphone 4s. I researched endlessly for one week before even considering going through this. I used RDLV root method along with your tutorial and not one error along the way. i'll be sure to frequent this forum going forward.
