[Q] Updated CM7, Phone stuck at Smilyface LG on boot! HELP! - T-Mobile LG G2x

My G2X has CM7 #225 nightly. Google Apps are already installed.
ROM Manager is finally working (WooHoo!) and I'm thinking I should install the latest.CM7. When I select to download CyanogenMod 7 20121125 Nightly Build 13550 it asks if I also want to include Google Apps (2.3).
Can anyone please tell me if I need to install Google Apps again?
Thanks!
EDIT: Updated without the Google Apps, now at boot all I see is the smilyface LG at boot (10-sec off, 6-sec on). HELP!

Do you have playstore working right now? If it is, Gapps is already installed. If its not, then you need to install it.
There is no harm in downloading gapps again.

OK, downloaded without Google Apps, flashed thru ROM Manager, the box for clear Davlik cache was checked.
For the past five minutes I on the screen all I see is the flashing LG - it's the blue LG boot screen.
HELP!

Go in CWM and reflash your nightly with Gapps. ROM Manager always screws with this phone. I thought you knew.

:good: was just going to say, try flashing via cwm.

Harmony Restored
Ah, I forgot and in CWM selected install from ZIP. Of course got a message that the directory was empty. Awk! I'm visiting my brother here in Long Island (helping him clean up from Sandy) and forgot to pack a microSD-to-USB adapter. Ran out to Radio Shack and overpaid for the adapter, Backed up my microSD card to my laptop (because it's the smart paranoid thing to do).
Then I selected Backup and Restore, restored my backup from earlier today - I'M BACK! Good thing I started from 100% battery because I had 53% battery left.
Thanks and thanks given for AndroidKills and cricketAC.
Didn't know that ROM Manager is a no-go for this phone. So, the smart thing to do is:
1) Download the CM7 update as a ZIP to my laptop (NOT using ROM Manager) and transfer to my G2X
2) Boot into CWM, clear Davlik and cache
3) From inside CWM, select Install from ZIP
Is this right?

Yea you always want to flash roms on the g2x with cwm. And do the usual wipe data, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvic cache. Then flash the ROM followed by the appropriate gapps

I wipe Dalvik cache, and the cache partition. But wiping data deletes all my contacts and settings and others say isn't necessary.

If you are going from one android version to another (2.* to 4.* or vice versa). It is. Otherwise, you can just wipe cache/dalvik.

Why didn't you point that out? I'm wondering why you didn't mention to back up all data.
I've seen jerks on this group recommend to newbies to clear "cache/data", and when the newbie cries he lost everything the jerk gives a big "lol". I'm not saying that's you. But telling people to clear cache/data is clearly dangerous.

If newbies read as they are supppsed to, 99% of dev threads say "to make a nandroid/backup your data before you flash this..."
anytime i flash a thing i run TiBkup, nandroid, than wipe cache, dalvik, data, and sysyem.
sometimes internal sd as well.
fresh clean so no data left ober gunking up new setup.

I assume that newbies watched the how not to be a noob video which tells you to search and read.
We are not here to hold people's hands.
No one held my hand, I followed the rules, found the guide.for modding the g2x and...omg...i READ it. That guide alone warns to make a backup.
Its not my, nor any other XDA members responsibility to walk anyone through step by step , we assume you did as you were instructed, and studied. If you jump right in without studying, than thats your/their fault.
Sorry you feel that way, but thats how it is.
Ultimately, in the end, no one is responsible for any action a person takes, and any damages those actions may cause, other that persone themselves. Whether here, or in life.

Assume a noob knows nothing. Assume there are visitors that haven't joined, but just found this page by a search engine.
it's not about holding people's hands. It's about helping. That includes not deliberately leaving out vital information that can have devastating consequences to someone's phone. Already had that happen to me, a jerk gave me bad advice that, had I followed it, would have bricked my phone. You remind me of him.
Honestly, you haven't convinced me that you're one of those people that likes giving bad advice.
Look, I've done tech support for over 15 years, both in person and on the phone. This is how it is. Why do you defend giving deliberately dangerous advice?

I defend taking responsibility for your own actions.
Ive done, and still do IT tech support. I understand what your saying.
that said, we are just supposed to ignore all the guides for newbies that the xda userbase has created for them and everytime repeat over and over whats stated all over?
*sighs* this is the point where we agree to disagree. You obviously enjoy repeating information easily obtained by searching and reading as rules state.
I on the other hand do not.
And offering support here is nothing like a paid tech support job at all.
And "visitors " can't post, so thats kind of negated.
Lets just choose to stop this here.
it comes down to difference of opinion.
You think everyone should just be handed information that they did not take the time to research themselves, on a silver platter.
I on the other hand, believe everyone has to work for what they want/earn rather than get a free handout.
Your like obama with public healthcare, I'm like Romney, you get what you put in. lol
Just an example, a bad one yes, and not taking a political stance.
We just have varying opinions on the matter is all....

Please don't compare me to Obama or I will throw up.
And pretty much everything you wrote is a horrible, insulting generalization - and wrong.
Look, I'm updating from CM7 to CM7. Didn't I I make that clear from the beginning? Deleting data is not needed or necessary - you even admitted that yourself, right? And yet you still insist that there was nothing wrong with advising to delete data.
Hey, I can understand your point of view because you have been here for so very long you have a mindset of "everyone should think like I do". You've made it abundantly clear that anyone that isn't constantly on this board deserves what they get, right?
But most people aren't on this board constantly, and only come here occasionally. And those are also the people that need the most help.
Let's be clear - I don't know you. And there are people out there that enjoy giving bad advice and bricking people's phones. How do you differentiate yourself from those people? You haven't convinced me that you aren't one of those people. Your position is that if you give someone bad advice, it's their faulty for taking it. That's the position of someone who likes giving bad advice.
The summary of what you attempting to tell me is that it is O.K. for you to give bad advice as long as your INTENTIONS are good. THAT is the classic liberal Obama position ("so what the economy is screwed, hey, I tried!"). The classic liberal position is avoiding responsibility. You are a classic liberal, bearing the the motto "It's Not My Fault"

I never offered you any advice.
I always advise people to do full wipes, including data, so no junk is left behind.
You must have confused me with someone else.
Anyways, agree to disagree.
Have fun.

70% of the time I have to reboot my phone before i can make a call, the phone says its calling and vibrates when someone answer but i can not hear them and they can not hear me, nor do i hear the phone ringing
something is killing my battery. a battery that should last all day will be dead in less then an hour and the back of the phone is hotter then ****. again rebooting fixes this
with 3 minute reboot times, REBOOTING MY PHONE 4-10 TIMES A DAY TO USE IT IS F*CKING UNACCEPTABLE. LIKE THE OTHER DAY WHEN I HAD PEOPLE BREAKING INTO MY HOUSE AND I'M TRYING TO CALL THE COPS WHILE GUNS ARE BEING POINTED AT EACHOTHER
i've posted in the Q&A, general help, and PM'ed CM and other with no help or answers other then format your sd card, just put the newest CM on there. why the hell should i upgrade to a new version when the problems are not addressed or fixed.

Try checking to see if the battery is the problem. Sometimes the G1 battery can get swollen or warped and could cause that problem. I was having the same issue last week and when I popped the back open, the battery was sticking out, looking like Larry Holmes, flabby and sick.
If that's not the issue, make sure you have Danger SPL installed correctly and an updated radio. You can check what versions you have installed by checking your Fastboot.
If none of that helps, do a full wipe and reflash the ROM I guess.
Hope this helps.

secondly, your swap is WAY too high, turn it down to 24-32mb (i use 24mb) and set your swappiness to 10, if your using swap make sure compcache is disabled.
for safe measure compeletly reformat your sdcard, however if your using swap and it is a corrupt portion of the sdcard (since class 4 cards dont have wear leveling to my knowledge).
if your coming from another rom make sure you dont have dalvik-cache still on your ext partition
before installing the rom, use fastboot or the format options in clockworks recovery to format system (may as well format data too if your installing fresh) and flash cyanogenmod then gapps..
donno what else to tell ya, without swap or compcache cm is much for our memory starved g1's. if your a light user than compcache is fine. if your a power user you should use swap. (this way if your listening to pandora for example, and you get a txt message it wont close pandora)
otherwise i dont know what to tell you, im runing cm5.08 with a 24mb swap, 10 swappiness on a properly fat/ext/swap sdcard. i have some custom tweaks and a custom kernel and the bidi font fix and everything is smooth.

First of all, caps and exclamation points do nothing to help you in this case. Calm down, take a few deep breaths, and realize that you are complaining about bugs in an outdated version of a ROM. Also, no one is forcing you to flash any ROM at all, so if it's that much of an issue, go back to stock. I wouldn't recommend recreating threads if this thread gets closed or moved, because that will only serve to piss off the mods who have the power to pretty much do whatever they want. Get a grip, upgrade to the latest version of cyan, and if you still have issues, look in the issue tracker, search the forums, and you will find what you are looking for. Good day.
I had strange problems in the past with my radio (not reachable after a while): what solved mine:
I've reflashed the original RC7 (android 1.0), rooted, flashed radio and spl and then recovery. Did then fastboot:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
reboot & flash any rom you like.
Succes!
btw: I think you should move to CM6 nightly too after installing android 1.0 (much better and (3rd party) things are up to date), shouldn't give any problems at all (but do a fastboot erase system -w when upgrading from 5.x).

If you threaten the mods, "If you move this thread I'll just remake it," I think they should delete this thread and ban you. The CM team has put a tremendous amount of work into an excellent and highly stable ROM that thousands use without issue. If you screw it up, many people will help you as much as they can, but you should show a little respect for all the work so many people have done for you, for free.

If you need your phone so bad, don't mess with it especially if you're not smart enough to do it an figure things out without making a big fuss over things. You should have known what you were dealing with and the possible consequences of rooting your phone as it is with any device that you have administrative permissions on.

If you have people in your house, Mexican or otherwise (racist much?), why do you have time to whine on our forum? Seriously, if your phone is screwed up, it's because you screwed it up, so you can only be pissed at yourself. If you're not smart enough to figure it out, even with help, then give up on modding your phone and stick to stock. CyanogenMod comes with absolutely no warranty or support, and this is made extremely clear before you flash it. So... if you're not happy with the answers you're getting, then tough ****. You have no right to be mad if it doesn't work, whether it causes you to lose your job, become impotent, or be shot by Mexicans. That's what you accept when you use this software. Now deal with it.

Encryption Unsuccessful - Fixed

Hello,
Due to the 10 post threshold I am unable to post in the "Samsung Captivate -
Captivate Android Development
[Guide] Encryption Unsuccessful - Reset Android [ICS Issue]" thread.
I have resolved this issue a couple months back.
So, due to the time that has gone by it is a little difficult to explain what I did.
Last night I reproduced the issue, but after a restore, I'm good as new.
So now I am compelled to post this here. Being a "noob" and like I said not able to completely remember what "exactly" was done to accomplish the fix.
I am willing to share any information you wish.
But in a nutshell, I flashed ( a ROM I can't remember at the moment, but I'm sure I will once I get down to it. at work and pressed for time, "lunch time" ) using Heimdall, then downloaded the rom "Imfinitum-blue-v1.1.0 to my external SD, ( using a 34 Gb SD card, seems that is the only card that I could use. From what I remember anyway. ) Mod version "aokp_galaxysmtd_milestone-4"
The kernel version currently being utilized on this device is "[email protected] #1.
Sorry for being so confusing, and vague, but I really wanted to get something out there. I see they are still working on a fix for this issue, I found this resolve before page 30, it's now at 57, and after recreating the issue and then resolving it after a restore.
So, ask any question you want and I will be happy to help.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
By "fixed" do you mean:
a) You have restored access to your INTERNAL sdcard?
b) You have used the emmc/sdcard swap method to use your external as the internal? (ie. your internal sdcard is still not useable)
It would help if you could mention whether your internal card is back in play. And esp. if you were able to access the data that was on there - ie. before you experienced the EU issue.
Or did using Heimdall wipe the internal sdcard - ie. yet you're now able to use the internal though?
Hello,
Because this would save a lot of people's phones including mine, would be great if you post your steps so we can follow.
Take this with a grain of salt guys.
There is very little information in his post, which is his very first post. There is also no information about the process he used. I'm not sure what a 34gb SD card is. I believe the methods he alludes to have been tried by other members with no resolution.
I have a feeling he had a different issue or is just trying to get attention.
For all our sakes I hope I'm just rushing to judgement.
I guess what we want to know is, what have you done?
Say you just got the Enc Unsuccessful screen, turned off the phone and then what?
He's to shy to give anymore details.

I just duplicated the issue again, "no sdcard found"..etc... then using did a restore ("Semaphore CWM Recovery v5.5.0.4" by the way) restored the Captivate right back. After it boots I get "prepairing sdcard" then everything is back to normal.
Answer to "a." Yes, full access to both External and Internal drives. Also can mount and unmount all /system, /cache, /datadata, /sdcard, /data, /emmc.
Answer to "b." Sorry, can you elaborate on this. I'm just now sure what you mean by "swap"
You said: "It would help if you could mention whether your internal card is back in play. And esp. if you were able to access the data that was on there - ie. before you experienced the EU issue."
Now here it's difficult to say, I formatted and haphazardly (sorry, dumb I know!) flashed so many times attempting to get back control of this thing, I don't know. Google will restore my apps like before but I disabled this function. However it will detect application updates same 5 updated every time I restore it.
You said: "Or did using Heimdall wipe the internal sdcard - ie. yet you're now able to use the internal though?"
Damn!, I'm just not sure, I'm really sorry but I wish I would have THOUGHT of posting HERE before YESTERDAY!...
Now is there a log file I can send out? So people can see whats going on inside this thing. Like I said so much time has gone by, and once I was able to get the camera working and transfer apps to the external card, and all that I basically went numb and stopped messing around. And I would like to point out, that
"Encryption Unsuccessful" crap ( and knowing better, I DID press Restart by the way) started just a couple days before this thread started. So just to give you an example as to how long this frustration was. I became obsessed, I worked on this phone for most all my waking hours, and I'm sure some of you have, "dreamed" of possible fixes as well!.
If it wasn't for the 10 post threshold I could have been more help. I read every single post in this thread up to the point where I fixed the problem.
Had it all in my head at the time but when I found I couldn't post with-in the >>Encryption Unsuccessful<< thread?! I wasn't sure why.
I even started a separate identity ( Barney Fyfe ) thinking that would allow me to post something.
And from what I read at the time, I thought, rather understood it to mean that I was locked out by some Admin here... Or ?!
Sorry, really, I did not realize I had to get 10 or more posts >>here<<
You know I'm sure I can get details on pretty much exactly what I did. Right now I'm at work, so I'll need a little more time.

Read my first reply.
I did so much to find a resolve, none of the suggestions I tried in the "Encryption Unsuccessful" thread worked at all by the way. didn't attempt EVERY suggestion, but a lot of them.
I'm going to attempt to get the horrifying memories back!
Oh, now here is an odd change in event, not sure if this is related or not but I just realized last night that the phone won't charge, using three different batteries, all fairly new, nor is it being recognized USB wise.
I have a couple other Captivates I'm now having to use to charge my batteries for this one.
It's like the micro usb is damaged?
I'm usually very careful on how I insert them, 4 different cables too. That all work with the other Captivate. It's bricked but does charge the battery.
It's a GT-19000.
Oh and I almost forgot!!
The Samsung Galaxy S SGH-897/Captivate I'm using is fairly new, the date code is " 1111 "

Are you serious!?
A SanDisk 32GB micro SD chip, "32gb" ( screen printed right on the chip ) = 32 gigabytes

but dude, you gave us nothing.
please as another noob could you post exact details of your discovery? like what you did to get the inscription unsuccesful to come up repeatably, and what did you do get your phone to access the internal memory? an what exactly did you flash to get it all to work
You brought up a fix to an issue that is getting very high attention right now. You were not able to tell people how to recreate the fix. People are looking for a scientific method (think repeatable steps) to fix this issue that is affecting quite a few people.
I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I've been watching the Encryption Unsuccessful thread for a very long time. I was stating only what I observed. There have been others who had suggested a similar fix, but it has not been repeatable.
You are a talented artist and obviously have alot going on. I hope for others' sake you can give them some steps to follow. If so, you may just be the "chosen one"

First of all, I'll commend you for sharing a positive outcome despite experiencing this dreaded issue. However, this is something being dicussed at the DEV thread level, which assumes a deeper level of detail than the average General or Q&A topic.
Serious people are giving serious consideration to the matter. Example, Woodrube is a well respected Vibrant / Transformer / Nook user, and he's invested a lot of time collaborating with Captivate users to pool our resources and build our knowledgebase here.
Whether you continue your participation is up to you. Hopefully your method will be a viable part of the discussion.

Regardless how anxious we get, life always comes first. Take care of business. Just keep in mind that a lot of XDA veterans are putting their minds to this issue, and more details will help isolate the cause & effect. In general, details on your ROM, kernel, and any specifics would be helpful.
Barney Fyfe said:
I just duplicated the issue again, "no sdcard found"..etc
Click to collapse
By saying "duplicated the issue", we're all going to assume you encountered the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen again. Do you recall any specific steps you took to "duplicate" this issue? Since you were able to duplicate it several times, people troubleshooting the issue will benefit to know how you induced the matter. The goal is to discover what actually triggers this. Then, we'll get closer to finding a resolution.
Were you using the phone at the time - ie. the EU randomly appeared? Did it just reboot on its own and result in a dimmed boot animation screen? After you hit "reset," did you simply go into recovery and perform a NANDROID restore? Was there anything specific you did after getting the EU screen? Battery pull, reboot into recovery, flash other roms or kernels, etc? Did you previously connect it to your PC using MTP?
Barney Fyfe said:
... then using did a restore ("Semaphore CWM Recovery v5.5.0.4" by the way) restored the Captivate right back. After it boots I get "prepairing sdcard" then everything is back to normal.
Yes, full access to both External and Internal drives. Also can mount and unmount all /system, /cache, /datadata, /sdcard, /data, /emmc.
Click to collapse
It seems you "resolved" your issue by simply doing a NANDROID restore via recovery. Was it really that simple? Or was there anything else (other roms or kernels flashed) prior to doing the restore.
If this is the case, then your experience starkly contrasts what most others have experienced - ie. no longer having access to the internal sdcard even in recovery (so a saved NANDROID backup wouldn't be accessible, etc).
Barney Fyfe said:
Answer to "b." Sorry, can you elaborate on this. I'm just now sure what you mean by "swap"
Click to collapse
The "swap" is the work around being used to swap emmc & sdcard in vold.fstab - ie. to then have the phone recognize the external sdcard as the internal (since the internal sdcard is no longer accessible for 99.9% of the others with this issue).
Barney Fyfe said:
Now here it's difficult to say, I formatted and haphazardly (sorry, dumb I know!) flashed so many times attempting to get back control of this thing, I don't know.
And I would like to point out, that "Encryption Unsuccessful" crap ( and knowing better, I DID press Restart by the way) started just a couple days before this thread started. So just to give you an example as to how long this frustration was. I became obsessed, I worked on this phone for most all my waking hours, and I'm sure some of you have, "dreamed" of possible fixes as well!.

Everyone who's gone through this has experienced that same level of dread and anxiety. We can all relate.

Barney Fyfe said:
Hello,
Due to the 10 post threshold I am unable to post in the "Samsung Captivate -
Captivate Android Development
Take care.

Hello, the same happens to me an hour ago. No charging no connection to computer but if the phone is powered off as soon as I connect the charger the phone boots up but no charge.

Dude, if want to help people you must understand that in order to do this you need to explain "exactly" what it is you are talking about. No one can trust your information based on your "belief" in it. Software is a very techinical thing, which means to explain it you need to speak in technical terms. If you cant do that, do some more reading. Otherwise you arent helping anyone but yourself....Thanks, but NoThanks.

[Q] Resetting my phone every 2 weeks... Is this normal?

My question is completely unrelated to technology.
So I usually reset my phone every two weeks... It's not just a factory reset, but I do a full wipe of /cache, /data, /system, etc. and reinstall the ROM. To be honest, I don't really know why, but it's driving me crazy, since it takes forever to set up everything again!!! So I'm curious, are any of you folks out there like me? Or do I have a mental problem and need to consult a psychiatrist?
Oh and also, I avoid apps with advertisements like plague (unless it can be blocked by AdAway).
It does sound a bit like OCD, but whatever floats your boat. Maybe you should use the opportunity to try different roms. The reason I stick with one rom is because the effort it takes to reinstall everything.
You should take a lot of "lucky patcher" to help you get rid of advertisements in apps if adaway fails to block them.

Yeah, OCD was what I was looking for. The description of OCD on Wikipedia is a pretty accurate description of me!
I'll try lucky patcher. I used to use AdBlock Plus, but it runs as a background process, so I switched to AdAway which patches the hosts file.

Actually, I have about three different ROMs on my SD card all the time, so when I get bored of one, I flash another. I'd be happy to try a new S2 ROM that's looks different from AOSP or TouchWiz... Any suggestions?

[Q] I be flashing [ROMs] like whoa...

Just a general question here.
I know how to flash, the steps to take and the precautions to follow So I'm not asking for a tutorial or anything.
With the new 4.3 builds rolling out in droves I plan to do A LOT of flashing over the next week or so (I've flashed eighteen times since I started this thread)
So my question is, aside from something going wrong on my end and f***ing my phone up, can repeatedly flashing ROMs damage my phone, even when taking the necessary precautions?
Note: Before flashing I ALWAYS factory data reset, wipe partition cache, wipe dalvik, format system and run Blackhole just to be on the safe side.
The technical answer is "yes." There is a theoretical limit on how much the phone can handle. The realistic answer is "no," because you will never get to that point.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Someone, somewhere, far far away made the silly mistake of saying "a phone can only handle X amount of flashes". Unfortunately, that person was never seen again. Basically, I agree with shaikmonster, lol.
I love the title of this thread BTW, very clever

Viper 2.0.0 & 1.8.0 issues

Alright I am absolutely PI$$ED OFF. I installed 2.0.0 earlier this morning and I've been at it all day trying to fix all the stuff that "update" broke. Moment I installed it my wifi & camera ceased to function, moments later WhatsApp is crashing. So after trying to fix those issues I gave up and restored a backup back to 1.8.0 right? Well now my wifi and camera work but all of Googles bull**** is crashing (google play services, something else) and WhatsApp is still messed up. I installed a new copy of gapps and the google crashing is still persisting. WhatsApp I can't really do much about because I'm using an old number on it to prevent from giving people my new one and i don't want to lose that privilege. The only way I can even use my phone is by slowly getting to Titanium backup and freezing them all. I've wiped my /system, /cache and dalvik cache about 5 times and still no luck. I can't even begin to see how this could relate to my /data partition as I was sure to not let the 2.0.0 update touch it but if it is then please tell me cause I am so fed up right now that I'm ready to toss this phone into a wall then snap it in half and set it on fire.
(THIS IS ABOUT ViperROM)
What in the the Nar Shadda do I have to do to fix these phone wrecking issues? I just want to use the version I've been using for the past month or so again, honestly if I'd known I would have to deal with this much crap I never would've EVER installed this update.
Now on to a little less venting and to more explaining, I've had this wifi issue that I had on 2.0.0 back when I first switched to KitKat on my old Galaxy S4. The camera issue I have never experienced and none of the fixes fixed it except downgrading to 1.8.0, the camera would never display anything on the default camera app & when i downloaded googles camera it would say "Can't connect to camera". on the google apps topic i figured installing a new gapps would solve it but apparently i am wrong. Whatsapp issue i haven't the slightest clue.
Sounds like some sort of firmware problem to me.

First thing. Before you ever take a update... Have you ever heard of a nandroid...
Second. Did you check your md5?
Third. Actually try wiping your data partition... When switching ROMs or even doing a update to a ROM with a new version such as 4.4.3 from 4.4.2 it's smart to wipe data and everything except internal and external SD card.
Forth. Why did you install a new GAPPS? That WILL cause crashes...
Fifth. We don't have updated firmware for 4.4.3 with a 2.22 base. That will cause some issues. It's a given.
Sixth. Have you tried a clean flash of viper 2.0?
Seventh. Have you tried installing another ROM. If so did you have the issues there.
Sent From My HTC One M8 Running Insert Coin. S-OFF.
I agree with person above me...don't flash viper 2.0 till we have 4.4.4 firmware.
An why not flash stock recovery do a factory reset an then go one about your way with it back to out of box set up.

I didn't really read up too much on 4.4.3 other than it was a security patch I believe? & I considered that but I had tons of messages which I would lose that were important beyond what I'm willing to explain. In the end I said f*** it and just restored my 12 day old backup. Really the only thing stopping me from doing that is my WhatsApp account, I have it setup to use one of my old phone numbers so I never have to disclose real information when I want to give someone my WA. Losing that would mean giving a lot of people something I really don't want to give out...
Now onto the person above me and his idea of my Nandroid doings, yes I have some but I don't have the storage to keep making them everytime I flash something which is practically every week knowing me. & before someone tells me to quit being a lazy "idiot" I simply don't want to spend the time deleting my backups every month when I run out of storage, much un-needed inconvenience. Yup could put them on PC, too bad I'm also running out of storage there too. Could use cloud, no, not into putting my private information and files onto a highly vulnerable privacy invading idiotic creation. In before someone insults me for calling the cloud idiotic, yes it is. I stand by that and have no intents on replying to anyone that may bring that up.
Onto the /data topic, it shouldn't have even touched my data partition if it was just a mere "update". & just now I went and read up on 4.4.3/4.4.4 and the differences = Bug fix & Security update (4.4.4). Most ROM's I've seen actually tell you you don't have to wipe /data unless coming from another ROM, simply that it's better to do it. If it was really such a necessity it should've been stated or stated more seriously/obviously. If 2.0.0 was like Jellybean to Kitkat or Kitkat to Lollipop then yeah i'd understand. If someone with a higher knowledge would like to enlighten me as to why my /data was ruined from such a minor update then feel free to tell me (no more cocky responses after this please, civil only.). Maybe 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 really is a big deal and I just don't realize it & actually it could be the firmware thing the guy above mentioned could be a good reason for it but something I read tells me otherwise, just can't remember it at the moment.
Lastly just incase pball sees this again, for the lols that is.

2. No.
3. Might try that if it's ever serious enough to require it. <3.
4. Because I was quite sure it would reinstall the google services, and if you install the correct version for your ROM/OS version I'm pretty sure it shouldn't cause any problems, could be wrong though. Anyways it was not the cause of my GServices crashing anyways.
5. Thanks for the info, I'll consider that next time.
6. Clean as in without wiping /data, yes. With wiping data, no.
7. Yes & the problem went away but I restored to my 12 day old backup of Viper anyways and it's solved now.

You can easily store text on cloud well factory reset. Just FYI. But glad your all set.
There is no correct version of gapps for the ViperOne ROMS. I usually only save the last two nandroid backups as long as everything seems to be working ok. If you want to save the older ones, well . . . . but you don't have the space on your pc. And sdcards are getting real cheap

Hello, I am back. Just a suggestion in a civil manner. Could you try backing all of your apps up. Make a backup of what you have now, just incase something happens again.. Then, go in and flash the new viper 2.0 or 2.0.1 either or is fine. Please do a clean install. Meaning wipe your data partition. Not your internal SD card not external. In viper I know it gives the option to do a clean install. Please consider actually trying it and seeing the outcome. What's the worst it could do? As for the GAPPS. HTC uses there own personal GAPPS, so it might clash with let's say banks minimal GAPPS. It's not containing the same files and they may just clash with each other. Causing more crashes and instability than before. Somewhat make sense? Lastly, I wasn't trying to be "snarky" or "sarcastic". I may have came across that way, because the way the original post is stated sounds very problematic to some. I went through and listed all the things that could have gone wrong or been happening. Because a lot of ROM threads do mention clean installs with updates or new ROMs. I've seen lots of threads. "If you're having problems please wipe you data, cache, and dalvik cache partition or clean install the ROM again.
Tl;Dr actually try a clean install and check the md5 for matching numbers. A clean install can solve a lot of issues.

Yes I'll back up the apps tomorrow, I used to do that with titanium and make a flashable zip but It rarely occurs to me to use Titanium anymore. Matter of fact 90% of the time I don't even realize I have it or it even exists. Last time I did it I did the wrong option which probably turned me off from it anyways soo I'll just have to pay attention this time.
I'll install 2.0 another day, too traumatized after my last experience to mess with it again LOL.
On the GAPPS topic yes it makes sense, I was unaware HTC had their own as it doesn't really say anywhere that they do or at least I haven't found anything stating such yet up until your response but yes it makes 100% sense.
& yeah I understand, I was quite frustrated and angry at the time and probably should've waited til I calmed down before originally posting this thread. Anyways my bad for even calling you out on that, I didn't originally plan to respond due to my natural urge to wanna retaliate when I feel I've been insulted, mocked or other words "attacked". Not literally attacked but you get what I'm saying, felt like I needed/wanted to be on the defensive. If that even makes sense, oh well.
Lastly, as to the "If you're having problems please wipe you data, cache, and dalvik cache partition or clean install the ROM again." I may have just skimmed over that and maybe just completely ignored the data part in my head. Having read so many I don't really bother to read anything other than the features and some other stuff anymore. I'd say what other stuff but I'm tired and can't think of it at the moment.
Anyways, thanks for trying to help even though my original post sounded like it was made by an idiotic jack***. How frustration & anger makes you change eh? & apologies for responding to what I thought was a "snarky & offensive" reply with attempt to try the same thing. Night!

SD cards cheap? Um buy a class 10 scandisk ultra 64g top of the line not cheap by any means it might cost you 70 bucks like mine did but well worth it. Viper ROM needs no gapps its a sense ROM so I'm confused with that.
