problems with [CM5.0.7] fix it, do not move thread - G1 Android Development

MODS DO NOT MOVE THIS THREAD OR I WILL REMAKE IT HERE. I'M SICK ON NOT GETTING ANY ANSWERS. AND THE ANSWERS I GET DO NOT WORK!!!!
HTC Dream (G1)
CM5.0.7-DS
Radio: 2.22.23.02
build:EPE54B
8GB SDcard [class4] (1Gb ext2/512Mb swap/rest FAT32)
70% of the time I have to reboot my phone before i can make a call, the phone says its calling and vibrates when someone answer but i can not hear them and they can not hear me, nor do i hear the phone ringing
something is killing my battery. a battery that should last all day will be dead in less then an hour and the back of the phone is hotter then ****. again rebooting fixes this
with 3 minute reboot times, REBOOTING MY PHONE 4-10 TIMES A DAY TO USE IT IS F*CKING UNACCEPTABLE. LIKE THE OTHER DAY WHEN I HAD PEOPLE BREAKING INTO MY HOUSE AND I'M TRYING TO CALL THE COPS WHILE GUNS ARE BEING POINTED AT EACHOTHER
i've posted in the Q&A, general help, and PM'ed CM and other with no help or answers other then format your sd card, just put the newest CM on there. why the hell should i upgrade to a new version when the problems are not addressed or fixed.

see the last line.

Try checking to see if the battery is the problem. Sometimes the G1 battery can get swollen or warped and could cause that problem. I was having the same issue last week and when I popped the back open, the battery was sticking out, looking like Larry Holmes, flabby and sick.
If that's not the issue, make sure you have Danger SPL installed correctly and an updated radio. You can check what versions you have installed by checking your Fastboot.
If none of that helps, do a full wipe and reflash the ROM I guess.
Hope this helps.

have you tried fast boot code:fastboot erase system -w then re flash ROM, if that does not work you should probably try cm 5.0.8 because they where a lot of fixes in that version

theres gotta be a reason your affected and no one else is..
all i can do to help is go on the info givin which is..

secondly, your swap is WAY too high, turn it down to 24-32mb (i use 24mb) and set your swappiness to 10, if your using swap make sure compcache is disabled.
for safe measure compeletly reformat your sdcard, however if your using swap and it is a corrupt portion of the sdcard (since class 4 cards dont have wear leveling to my knowledge).
if your coming from another rom make sure you dont have dalvik-cache still on your ext partition
before installing the rom, use fastboot or the format options in clockworks recovery to format system (may as well format data too if your installing fresh) and flash cyanogenmod then gapps..
donno what else to tell ya, without swap or compcache cm is much for our memory starved g1's. if your a light user than compcache is fine. if your a power user you should use swap. (this way if your listening to pandora for example, and you get a txt message it wont close pandora)
otherwise i dont know what to tell you, im runing cm5.08 with a 24mb swap, 10 swappiness on a properly fat/ext/swap sdcard. i have some custom tweaks and a custom kernel and the bidi font fix and everything is smooth.

I would PM CM and tell him you will pay £300 for a version just for you.
You're doing something wrong and you want one of the guys here to do it all for you
Well I am sorry with a attitude like yours I don't htink you will get very far.
First off try another rom to see if it's your phone then move forward.

First of all, caps and exclamation points do nothing to help you in this case. Calm down, take a few deep breaths, and realize that you are complaining about bugs in an outdated version of a ROM. Also, no one is forcing you to flash any ROM at all, so if it's that much of an issue, go back to stock. I wouldn't recommend recreating threads if this thread gets closed or moved, because that will only serve to piss off the mods who have the power to pretty much do whatever they want. Get a grip, upgrade to the latest version of cyan, and if you still have issues, look in the issue tracker, search the forums, and you will find what you are looking for. Good day.

I had strange problems in the past with my radio (not reachable after a while): what solved mine:
I've reflashed the original RC7 (android 1.0), rooted, flashed radio and spl and then recovery. Did then fastboot:
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
reboot & flash any rom you like.
Succes!
btw: I think you should move to CM6 nightly too after installing android 1.0 (much better and (3rd party) things are up to date), shouldn't give any problems at all (but do a fastboot erase system -w when upgrading from 5.x).

**** you.
This is the development section, not the *****ing section. If you don't like CM, ask for help the right (and polite) way, without your negative attitude and without spamming us. If you're still not satisfied, flash back to stock Android, or buy an iPhone, and stay the hell away from our forums. If you threaten the mods, "If you move this thread I'll just remake it," I think they should delete this thread and ban you. The CM team has put a tremendous amount of work into an excellent and highly stable ROM that thousands use without issue. If you screw it up, many people will help you as much as they can, but you should show a little respect for all the work so many people have done for you, for free.
Asshole.

let switch position, so now you have 2 illegal mexican in your house trying to rob you and threating to kill you, you have them trapped on the 3rd floor of your house using a shotgun and they have hand guns..... now your trying to call the cops but have to wait 4 minutes to reboot your phone, and another 4 minutes for the cops to get there. the whole time they are trashing your house and trying to get out and trying to point a gun at you.... do you think you might just be a little ****ing pissed
i had already brought to problem up nicely before this and was ignored

If you need your phone so bad, don't mess with it especially if you're not smart enough to do it an figure things out without making a big fuss over things. You should have known what you were dealing with and the possible consequences of rooting your phone as it is with any device that you have administrative permissions on.

You are a very nice member of XDA.

If you have people in your house, Mexican or otherwise (racist much?), why do you have time to whine on our forum? Seriously, if your phone is screwed up, it's because you screwed it up, so you can only be pissed at yourself. If you're not smart enough to figure it out, even with help, then give up on modding your phone and stick to stock. CyanogenMod comes with absolutely no warranty or support, and this is made extremely clear before you flash it. So... if you're not happy with the answers you're getting, then tough ****. You have no right to be mad if it doesn't work, whether it causes you to lose your job, become impotent, or be shot by Mexicans. That's what you accept when you use this software. Now deal with it.
Can we delete this thread already?

Phone not starting after flash.. tried a new version of wm6.. please help

i originally had faria's wm6 on my phone, but then i wanted to try xplore core 2.0. i flashed it, but when it finished it would start. it wouldnt go past the second splash screen. i tried a hard reset using the hard keys, but when i try it, it says format failed. i have tried to reflash using bootloader using the OEM carrier roms from both t-mobile and cingular. i am having the same issue no matter what i do. if there is anything i can do to fix this.. please help me because i constantly use my wizard and i don't no what i can do without it. i really appreciate any input. thanks
im not sure what to do but i figured i'd respond just so you know people are trying to help. I've heard of the format failed problem, but im not sure what the solution was. Good luck!
What device do you have ? A G3 ?
How I fixed my Format failed problem...

I followed these steps with an SD card fresh from the package...
Drug_Store said:
...
2- Get a clean SD card (in qtek 9100 / Htc Wizard case is MiniSD) with 128MB (some people say 64MB, but I personally used a 128MB, maybe a 64MB is enough)
3- Kill (task manager) wescomm.exe (this is related with activesync installed on your PC). Insert the blank SD card on the phone.
4- Get your phone in bootloader mode. Like this : Phone powered off, press Camera button + Power On, will enter in bootloader mode (RGB screen).
5- Now connect your USB cable to your phone. And start MTTY_updateROM.exe (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/romupdate.rar). After open, on Port selection, choose \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and press OK. A window will open with a blank sheet.
6- Type "r2sd all" and hit enter... wait to the end (at end shows "cmd>"). On your phone screen u can follow backup progress... small bar will appear down the RGB screen.
7- Power off the phone (or remove battery), enter bootloader mode (camera button + power on) and this time RGB won´t appear right away. Will ask if u want to "download SD image", press voice dial button to agree, and writting will begin. Wait to the end. Power off and power on normally. Now your phone should be working ok. Not even needed to reflash the phone after this.
Thanks to all and hope this helps more people with this problem

For the record, the Core 2.0 rom ****ED my phone up too. When I tired to flash back a different rom because of all the changed **** in Core 2.0 my phone flipped out. I had to flash it 3 or 4 times to get it to even boot.
I recommend anyone thinking of tyring Core 2.0 to stay away from it unless they don't plan on changing roms after going to it.

yes, i edited it.

Really, that's why I put what I did in my thread about saying "My phone is stuck in bootloader..." (remember the fillet knife?) ROM's DO NOT MESS UP A PHONE UNLESS THEY ARE CID LOCKED, THE FLASHING PC HAS ISSUES, OR BECAUSE OF OTHER OPERATOR ERRORS.
Don't let it get you down. You're doing a good work and if one or two people out of a thousand can't get it right, then they need to be running carrier ROMs, and you can stay calm and happy helping those who really need it.
See, that's not so bad now is it?

Boy, I know more about what I'm doing then most people here put together.
Your rom ****ed my phone right in the ass.
Luckily I recovered from it.
You call your Rom "stock" yet YOU CHANGED ALL KINDS OF STUPID STUFF IN IT.
Like the alignment screen graphic?
Why the hell would you do that.
Or putting on 3 different boot screens. wtf?
Oh yeah, not to mention it runs like **** before even loading any more software on it since you used the OLD WM6 build.
Don't release any more.
You're terrible at it.
kthx bye.

Nope, flash went to 100% then the phone tried to reboot and nothing happened.
I do all my flashing on that machine because it's stable and I have never had a problem flashing until the Core 2.0 rom. That is the first and only rom I have had any trouble with.

I do my rom as I please, you can't question that.
For YOU to know all roms have 3 (boot =NOT) splash screens You're just too SMARTass to notice.
You can quote multiple post in same message, in case that slipped your soo full-of-knowledge mind.
I used old WM6 build ? Please explain to me what you mean ...i am not that wize
I did not called my rom STOCK ! I called it Core . But you are probably too smart to actually even read anything.
In case you don't understand the word "CUSTOM", then let me explain it to you : I can change whatever i want in it. All of it if I like to.
Ah yeah, and i almoust forgot ... please read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1241040&postcount=1
It's been there from day 1, just made it bigger now, so that you can see too
And next time, keep your opinions to yourself. No need for public -> "Ooh, look at me how tough I am ! " stunts.
....
whether you like it or not...
I'm confused by people who choose to post cooked ROMs in a public forum, invite people to use and comment, but them complain if the feedback it not all roses and accolades.
You may have done this for free, and many if not most, appreciate your time and effort. That being said, some have legitimate complaints and are posting them because they have experienced problems with your ROM. I’ve been reading your reaction to any negative feedback and you are highly defensive, never conceding that there may be issues to address.
All cooks say that you are not responsible if the ROM bricks someone’s device or if they have problems, and no one has asked for you to pay for their repairs or replace their devices.
There is no place for foul language or insults in such a forum. It's childish and may simply help support the complainant’s point.
If this is your reaction to complaints, then yes do us all a favor and stop posting and keep your work for your personal enjoyment and benefit.
If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen. No pun intended.
Well if it doesn't work for you then try a different ROM. I tried all the ROMs and pretty much gonna stay with Faria The Real Thing
I tried Xplore 1.0 and i had alot of troube so I dont think im gonna try 2.0. If it works dont change
Funny thing is I have flashed this ROM to my wizard 6 times, and each time something else didn't work. But let me explain...
I want a stripped version of windows, I don't do any messaging at all. And since the Explorer ROMS are known for their stability, it seemed a logical choice. So I have been using package tools, to create packages with option.XML files for each package so you can choose, what parts of the OS get installed.
But back to the point...
Each time I flashed something went wrong... Something I did, a "tmail not found warning when activesync starts", to once I got a 260(?) error once when flashing at 63% so I started it while holding the voice command button. It booted into Bootloader, I flashed it to Cingular 2.25.11 and immediately flashed back to the same ROM successfully.
There are hundreds of people Ecstatic with the Xplorer ROMs, for each one of you here complaining. I for one would think it a travesty, for a few unappreciative people to ruin it for hundreds of others. By pissing off one of our cookers. Maybe had you posted your problems here we would have been able to help you.
But please don't be so accusing, just read, and if you can't find an answer. Then ask nicely, and thank the cook for the time he spends cooking for us! If you don't like the answer you get or you decide you don't like this ROM try one of the many others...

G Tablet coming tomorrow...would like to get some things set straight. Thanks.

Hey all,
I'm getting my G Tablet tomorrow and I'd just like to get some things clarified.
I know, the first thing some will say is USE SEARCH! Well, I did - and that's actually why I just want to get some things straight before I go down the path of modifying the device software. See, reading it all has managed to confuse me more than help me get a definitive instruction set for forging ahead.
I'm seeing the update "****s on CWM" according to a user...and then a 'fix' for that. Than I see that Gapps causes FCs for some, while it works for others. So...yeah, a little back and forth on what to do and who's instructions to follow.
Alright, so first thing's first....Should I flash the Clockwork Mod that I'm seeing available - 0.8? or is there something else I should consider or that I've missed? or maybe wait for a newer version? Should I even flash CWM if I get the newest (and I WILL be getting the newest) S/W version? Are there any downsides at all to flashing CWM on there in terms of messing with OTA updates, etc?
I read this:
"All the ROMS use a standard firmware updater that can be used by non-technical users. Here is an explanation on how it works:...."
Sooo, does that mean I can live without CWM? If an update doesn't work for some reason, will I be able to fix it or overwrite it somehow if I can't get into the tablet at all from the tablet itself? I read something about going into APX mode and putting things on through Windows, is this an infallible method?
Second of all, I read the FAQ thoroughly (I think and hope) but I'm still not 100% on what Gapps to DL or how to put a working Android Market on there especially with this new S/W update. I've seen how to 'fix' the Market to see missing apps, but not how to actually install it on the G Tablet. I may have missed that post somewhere on here.
I'm also unclear if I should get Gapps or not at all, as I've read that some have FCs on there while others do not - so what's the general consensus in light of this update that was just released as of Dec. 21, 2010?
Ultimately, here is what I'd like from my GTab:
I'd like to run the new official Tapn'Tap released recently first and foremost.
I'd like to have the official/unofficial (w/e) Google Market.
I'd like to run Google Apps (Gtalk, Gmail, etc.).
IF I don't like Tapn'Tap, and this is a worse case scenario situation, as in if I HATE TnT - I'd like to have the option to slap something else on there and I'd like to make sure I don't brick my Tablet. Whether that means storing an original official TnT ROM or whatever.
Point me in the right direction please, especially considering things may have changed as of the new S/W update.
Thanks much and sorry for all the questions. I assure you I used search and I attempted to put it together on my own. It's been a long time since I've modded (G1 was the last time) and I don't do it often. Also, apologies if I posted this in the wrong section....I considered posting it in Dev. section but this one seemed better suited.
Thanks again, XDA rocks.

It's been a long time since I've modded (G1 was the last time) and I don't do it often. Also, apologies if I posted this in the wrong section....I considered posting it in Dev. section but this one seemed better suited.
Thanks again, XDA rocks.

I don't know how much direction pointing I can do but here goes..
Clockwork mod in my opinion is a necessity. Version 0.8 is the best one for most people because of how it deals with the memory locations. Yes, you can do things without it. The update process is as simple as putting an update.zip file, and a recovery folder with a command file in it on an sdcard and holding the vol + button while hitting power. It is easy. Clockwork has a lot of little features though that make life easier. You can make a complete system backup with it. You can install updates, and new firmware with it. You can completely lock up your tablet and using clockwork and your backup be back in business in about 3-4 minutes. You can load new roms and if you hate them you can go back to your old working stuff in minutes. Yes, there are ways to make one of these tablets work again when they get stuck. I don't think anyone has actually bricked one. Some may think they have, but I doubt it.
Unless you are dead set on wanting the stock TnT interface the easiest way to get what you want is to load one of the roms. Yes, there are ways to get most of it without loading a new rom. Most everyone that has gone the I have to stay stock but want all the mods has eventually just loaded a rom. TnT3.0 is based on the latest stock stuff. It has the market, flash, etc. already in it. VegaN is what I use mostly but they are both stable and fast.
Before you flash something brand new that just came out I would read about it and see what others have to say about issues. It usually only takes about 30 minutes until you can tell if it is going to be good or not.
All of the roms for this tablet have there own little quirks. The stock has gotten better with each update but it still is not as good as the ones I named.
Finally.. This tablet is very easy to play with. It is pretty much unbrickable. Anything you can possibly break one of us has probably already broken before and fixed. There are some people that seem to have problems doing every little thing. Most don't. So I wouldn't let any of it scare you off because none of it is that hard.
With a little bit of searching almost everything you may want it to do can be done. I really love mine, and when I got it almost 2 months ago I hated it...

"Sigh" of relief. Then I'm not too worried. As I said I've dabbled in modifying my G1 and it is mostly cake. But I've just been seeing conflicting posts on whether cwm works with the newest official tnt release or not so I wasn't sure what to do.
Thanks for your advice. And when I said pointers, I meant like this as well as pointing me to any posts I may have missed on how to do whatever. Though I THINK I found most of them.

The new release overwrites clockwork. But it is not hard to put back. Always a good idea to copy the clockwork backups folder to your pc, or somewhere they won't be lost. The custom roms typically leave the recovery image alone and can be installed with or without clockwork by either extracting the zip contents for stock recovery, or installing it as is in clockwork.

I can vouch for that. Erased system, boot, data and cache in preparation for a new ROM. Accidentally rebooted and couldn't get into recovery. Booted it into APX mode, flashed stock and was on my way.
I would just run ZRoot, then upload the TnTLite 3.0 recovery and update.zip and then do the recovery mode process. You should have a microsd handy just in case it doesn't work, but so far I haven't needed that.
This tablet is much easier to work with and very forgiving since VS never took the time to lock down the bootloader etc like Motorola did with my Droid X. You really shouldn't fear changing files out etc, provided you're getting a ROM from one of the people providing them here. If you can press and hold two buttons at once, you can make your gTab an awesome little tablet. It benchmarks about 1000 points higher than my Droid X on quadrant. Can't wait to see what these guys can do with Gingerbread.

It is also not hard to alter the update so that it does not overwrite clockwork.
Open update.zip
Find updater-script, Open in notepad++
Remove the line that references recovery.img

The very first time I rooted, I used ZRoot and installed 2.4.0. I didn't change anything and used the exact same process of simply copying over the 3.0.0 files over to the root directory of the internal memory and did the recovery procedure (vol+ and pwr keys). It worked like a charm.

My device hasn't come yet (damn you FedEx!) but I'm eagerly awaiting it.
My plan:
Unbox, start it....do a factory reset from the getgo if it has enough juice.
Set it back up. Charge it to full. If whatever comes on it is as unbearable as I've seen in on Youtube - start modifications.
Will CWM install on it AFTER I do the update if it's available to me? I've seen that the update messes with it if it's already there - but noone's mentioned putting it on there after the fact. I may just go that route for simplicity sake.
Thanks for this!, and thank you all for chiming in with your experience. I feel much better about just getting my hands dirty in it all. I had wrote something to someone yesterday about jumping in and just doing it, but when it comes to dealing with it yourself it can be a daunting task - especially when it still has that new smell, lol. Anyway, thanks again. You guys really rock.
Will stop back later on after I've done my thing
I think they are both nice devices. There are trade off for both of them. I think the screen on the iPad is wonderful, where the gTab's is okay. But the gTab has a forward facing camera, you can print from it, and you can modify it fairly easily too.

Seriously though...trust the directions from the great devs like roebeet. Follow their instructions word for word. You can switch ROMs and then flash back if you want. No worries...
Off topic!
Well...disappointment! Fedex had my package out for delivery at 8am and at 8pm, they're not here. This is why I like UPS, they show up at my door on the day of delivery, no exceptions - they have shown up at almost 9pm before. The Archos 101 I got was sent out at 8am as well but got here at 1:30pm - I suppose that was before the holiday rush.
Checking the details of my tracking I'm seeing a "delivery exception" at 7:30pm (I guess it was time to get back to the facility so they can clock out by 8pm?) and upon calling them I get a somewhat stumbling but polite CS who tells me the delivery went out "late" - upon which I asked if 8am was considered late, especially from a distribution facility WITHIN the same zip code as I am, and all he could say was "Very sorry about this".
Aaaanyway....I guess it will be tomorrow before I can report my adventures.
Think I'll be able to get my $3.99 back from Amazon? I have Prime and with that the package would have come tomorrow anyway. Basically my $3.99 is wasted. Imagine if I didn't have Prime though? Whew.

If you can figure out how to brick it you will probably get an award.. It won't be a good award but probably one of those top ten dumb things people do awards. So far unless you plug the motherboard into a wall socket no one has bricked one. May think they have, but like I said before I doubt it..
And your right.. If it can be done, someone eventually will figure out how. And then we will all laugh at them.. At least I will
I finally got the G tablet tonight and...alright, don't flame me for this - but I don't see what all the complaints about the screen being horrendous or the device being molasses slow are about?
I don't know how people are trying to view it...but when looking at it or setting it on a stand to watch media, I'm not seeing any problem with the viewing angles. It's about the same as my laptop so I watch it the same way.
It's not even a 1/4 as slow as the stuff I've seen on Youtube or in some of the review videos I've seen around the net. I haven't gotten a single FC. Granted, I haven't put in a SD Card yet so maybe problems will start then?
I guess I should note, the very first thing I did was did a factory reset. Then I hooked it up to Wifi and got the 3053 update. I'm one of those who will be waiting for the 'official' update on the 24th.
I set up the time and date, restarted and everything works. I haven't installed flash yet (don't need it that much) and stuff that I DO want on there right now works fine (skype, pandora, fring, dropbox, evernote). I'm slowly figuring out a list of what I want/need from my Mytouch 4G to port to the VS GTab. Figure I don't really NEED Gtalk, Gmail on there because I have these on my phone AND PC - do I really want them making noises all around my home on 3 devices? I was concerned about getting the Google Apps on but now I'm finding I really don't need them. So it seems to me this will be a matter of learning to separate what I need on a tablet vs. my phone - I was of the mentality that I should just get whatever's on my phone on the tablet, this is something others apparently do as they seem to want everything that's on their phone, on their tablets as well.
I personally don't see the point in that. Had I had the Google Market, that would have escaped me as I'd have used Appbrain to just get my motherload of apps from the MT4G to the GTab. Not having it has slowed me, and now I get to re-evaluate before I do grab apps for it.
Now I just have to merge/convert my HTPC into a NAS device as well and find an app that will allow me to DLNA stream media from it and I'll be in mobile heaven.
I haven't had my wifi drop at all anywhere in my home and I've marched all over with it (I use full Wifi N, no G compat. so maybe my range is wider?). Tried email, etc. to replicate crashes and force closes but haven't so far. No surfing issues. I DID find that one app got 'stuck' being downloaded and I had to delete the file before the 'downloading' icon would go away, even after restart.
Maybe the trick to getting a workable GTab in the first place is to factory reset it before first use? Iunno. Things may change and issues may pop up the more I use it and as time passes - but so far, so good!
Again, I can't thank XDA enough for the advice and info. I've found and been given.

[Q] phone keeps losing SD chip

Several times this past week, my Galaxy S has complained because it thinks I removed the SD chip, though, of course, I had not. It has also sung the "I'm out of power and will shut down now" song, but when I plug it in, I find it still has plenty of battery life. (Was it complaining about the chip, not the power with that song?)
I don't think anything was lost from the chip the first time or two, but this last time I know that it lost some Kindle books, so who knows what else is gone. The 16G Samsung chip is down to 1.2G free.
I'm currently backing up the SD chip and will install another one, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has other thoughts re the source of the problem. The phone is less than a year old.
Thank you kindly.
Try another card first. My bet would be the card is faulty. If you try another one and still have the same issue I'd call Samsung. As far as the battery issue goes get a new one. There have been a lot of reports of battery issues, ROMs rebooting, etc. Most of them where fixed by just getting a new battery.
I'd definitely try to find the cause of the problem before your warranty expires.
I had my microSD holder fail after about 18 months. The early symptoms were that it didn't quite want to "click in" sometimes when I was inserting it. While a relatively inexpensive fix (under $15 for the part off an eBay vendor), getting someone else to deal with the installation is nice.

The custom rom DID NOT destroy your sdcard. You either accidentally formatted it or did not unmount it from your pc and it corrupted the data. Custom roms from this forum will not and can not destroy the sdcard. More people would be complaining and the devs would be run off xda if that happened. Stop spreading lies.

I definitely didn't do either, but i know my duties of protecting the the devs. Things happen and something corrupted the Rom. Most definitely my own fault for not flashing properly or just because there are gremlins living in my phone that refuse to move out. But, thats why i didn't name which rom was it that was related to the problem. Chill out eollie, just trying to help.
If you read what you posted you said it happened after flashing a custom rom. That to most people means you are blaming the custom rom. There is safety checks and balances put in place to protect that stuff. Plus flashing a rom will never modify your sdcard. If anything it will just add some folders when you boot. Again if there was rom out there doing that then people would have reported it. User error is the only explainable answer.
You also told the person to take out the sdcard and leave it out...that also implies you are blaming a rom and not yourself.
Furthermore, I dont care if you want to post the name of the rom. Protecting devs is not my job. But stopping false info about the roms is something I will do. To new people they see these kinds of statements and think Im not going to try to flash that it might mess up this or that. And that decision is based on some false accusations. That is not fair to the community nor the devs.
My screen cracked after reading this post ..but I didn't say which post

Eollie, my suggestion to take out the card was so she could avoid losing data on it. There really isn't any animosity toward devs or roms inferred there. Telling her to leave it is not going to solve her problem.

Hey Erik, glad you have a sense of humor, lol. .. Keep it light, keep it real, right? I really do appreciate your hard work and wish i had the time to get into helping you guys dev.
That happened to me on my G1 after I took it in for screen repair.
My screen broke, but my swap file was on my sd card, so I knew that the sd reader was fine because the phone was getting notifications after boot. After I took it in for repair, they fixed the screen, but my phone wasn't booting up, so they told me that I was running a nexus one rom on it and they could fix it for 20 bucks. I yelled at them for blaming me for the problem, then I went into CWM Recovery, and it told me that there was no sd card. I tried pulling the sd card and pushing it around, and even got it to boot once. So yeah, did you take it into any cheap repair shops, cause they can break phones instead of fix them.

Viper 2.0.0 & 1.8.0 issues

Alright I am absolutely PI$$ED OFF. I installed 2.0.0 earlier this morning and I've been at it all day trying to fix all the stuff that "update" broke. Moment I installed it my wifi & camera ceased to function, moments later WhatsApp is crashing. So after trying to fix those issues I gave up and restored a backup back to 1.8.0 right? Well now my wifi and camera work but all of Googles bull**** is crashing (google play services, something else) and WhatsApp is still messed up. I installed a new copy of gapps and the google crashing is still persisting. WhatsApp I can't really do much about because I'm using an old number on it to prevent from giving people my new one and i don't want to lose that privilege. The only way I can even use my phone is by slowly getting to Titanium backup and freezing them all. I've wiped my /system, /cache and dalvik cache about 5 times and still no luck. I can't even begin to see how this could relate to my /data partition as I was sure to not let the 2.0.0 update touch it but if it is then please tell me cause I am so fed up right now that I'm ready to toss this phone into a wall then snap it in half and set it on fire.
(THIS IS ABOUT ViperROM)
What in the the Nar Shadda do I have to do to fix these phone wrecking issues? I just want to use the version I've been using for the past month or so again, honestly if I'd known I would have to deal with this much crap I never would've EVER installed this update.
Now on to a little less venting and to more explaining, I've had this wifi issue that I had on 2.0.0 back when I first switched to KitKat on my old Galaxy S4. The camera issue I have never experienced and none of the fixes fixed it except downgrading to 1.8.0, the camera would never display anything on the default camera app & when i downloaded googles camera it would say "Can't connect to camera". on the google apps topic i figured installing a new gapps would solve it but apparently i am wrong. Whatsapp issue i haven't the slightest clue.
Sounds like some sort of firmware problem to me.

First thing. Before you ever take a update... Have you ever heard of a nandroid...
Second. Did you check your md5?
Third. Actually try wiping your data partition... When switching ROMs or even doing a update to a ROM with a new version such as 4.4.3 from 4.4.2 it's smart to wipe data and everything except internal and external SD card.
Forth. Why did you install a new GAPPS? That WILL cause crashes...
Fifth. We don't have updated firmware for 4.4.3 with a 2.22 base. That will cause some issues. It's a given.
Sixth. Have you tried a clean flash of viper 2.0?
Seventh. Have you tried installing another ROM. If so did you have the issues there.
Sent From My HTC One M8 Running Insert Coin. S-OFF.
I agree with person above me...don't flash viper 2.0 till we have 4.4.4 firmware.
An why not flash stock recovery do a factory reset an then go one about your way with it back to out of box set up.

I didn't really read up too much on 4.4.3 other than it was a security patch I believe? & I considered that but I had tons of messages which I would lose that were important beyond what I'm willing to explain. In the end I said f*** it and just restored my 12 day old backup. Really the only thing stopping me from doing that is my WhatsApp account, I have it setup to use one of my old phone numbers so I never have to disclose real information when I want to give someone my WA. Losing that would mean giving a lot of people something I really don't want to give out...
Now onto the person above me and his idea of my Nandroid doings, yes I have some but I don't have the storage to keep making them everytime I flash something which is practically every week knowing me. & before someone tells me to quit being a lazy "idiot" I simply don't want to spend the time deleting my backups every month when I run out of storage, much un-needed inconvenience. Yup could put them on PC, too bad I'm also running out of storage there too. Could use cloud, no, not into putting my private information and files onto a highly vulnerable privacy invading idiotic creation. In before someone insults me for calling the cloud idiotic, yes it is. I stand by that and have no intents on replying to anyone that may bring that up.
Onto the /data topic, it shouldn't have even touched my data partition if it was just a mere "update". & just now I went and read up on 4.4.3/4.4.4 and the differences = Bug fix & Security update (4.4.4). Most ROM's I've seen actually tell you you don't have to wipe /data unless coming from another ROM, simply that it's better to do it. If it was really such a necessity it should've been stated or stated more seriously/obviously. If 2.0.0 was like Jellybean to Kitkat or Kitkat to Lollipop then yeah i'd understand. If someone with a higher knowledge would like to enlighten me as to why my /data was ruined from such a minor update then feel free to tell me (no more cocky responses after this please, civil only.). Maybe 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 really is a big deal and I just don't realize it & actually it could be the firmware thing the guy above mentioned could be a good reason for it but something I read tells me otherwise, just can't remember it at the moment.
Lastly just incase pball sees this again, for the lols that is.
1. No of course not, I did hear something about a Bandroid 2014 though. Heard it bans all the sarcastic insulting comments to OP's on the internet.
2. No.
3. Might try that if it's ever serious enough to require it. <3.
4. Because I was quite sure it would reinstall the google services, and if you install the correct version for your ROM/OS version I'm pretty sure it shouldn't cause any problems, could be wrong though. Anyways it was not the cause of my GServices crashing anyways.
5. Thanks for the info, I'll consider that next time.
6. Clean as in without wiping /data, yes. With wiping data, no.
7. Yes & the problem went away but I restored to my 12 day old backup of Viper anyways and it's solved now.
52998. Hello!
Anyways problem solved!

You can easily store text on cloud well factory reset. Just FYI. But glad your all set.
There is no correct version of gapps for the ViperOne ROMS. I usually only save the last two nandroid backups as long as everything seems to be working ok. If you want to save the older ones, well . . . . but you don't have the space on your pc. And sdcards are getting real cheap

Anyways problem solved!

Hello, I am back. Just a suggestion in a civil manner. Could you try backing all of your apps up. Make a backup of what you have now, just incase something happens again.. Then, go in and flash the new viper 2.0 or 2.0.1 either or is fine. Please do a clean install. Meaning wipe your data partition. Not your internal SD card not external. In viper I know it gives the option to do a clean install. Please consider actually trying it and seeing the outcome. What's the worst it could do? As for the GAPPS. HTC uses there own personal GAPPS, so it might clash with let's say banks minimal GAPPS. It's not containing the same files and they may just clash with each other. Causing more crashes and instability than before. Somewhat make sense? Lastly, I wasn't trying to be "snarky" or "sarcastic". I may have came across that way, because the way the original post is stated sounds very problematic to some. I went through and listed all the things that could have gone wrong or been happening. Because a lot of ROM threads do mention clean installs with updates or new ROMs. I've seen lots of threads. "If you're having problems please wipe you data, cache, and dalvik cache partition or clean install the ROM again.
Tl;Dr actually try a clean install and check the md5 for matching numbers. A clean install can solve a lot of issues.

Yes I'll back up the apps tomorrow, I used to do that with titanium and make a flashable zip but It rarely occurs to me to use Titanium anymore. Matter of fact 90% of the time I don't even realize I have it or it even exists. Last time I did it I did the wrong option which probably turned me off from it anyways soo I'll just have to pay attention this time.
I'll install 2.0 another day, too traumatized after my last experience to mess with it again LOL.
On the GAPPS topic yes it makes sense, I was unaware HTC had their own as it doesn't really say anywhere that they do or at least I haven't found anything stating such yet up until your response but yes it makes 100% sense.
& yeah I understand, I was quite frustrated and angry at the time and probably should've waited til I calmed down before originally posting this thread. Anyways my bad for even calling you out on that, I didn't originally plan to respond due to my natural urge to wanna retaliate when I feel I've been insulted, mocked or other words "attacked". Not literally attacked but you get what I'm saying, felt like I needed/wanted to be on the defensive. If that even makes sense, oh well.
Lastly, as to the "If you're having problems please wipe you data, cache, and dalvik cache partition or clean install the ROM again." I may have just skimmed over that and maybe just completely ignored the data part in my head. Having read so many I don't really bother to read anything other than the features and some other stuff anymore. I'd say what other stuff but I'm tired and can't think of it at the moment.
Anyways, thanks for trying to help even though my original post sounded like it was made by an idiotic jack***. How frustration & anger makes you change eh? & apologies for responding to what I thought was a "snarky & offensive" reply with attempt to try the same thing. Night!
My viperone 2.0 works just fine on my verizon m8 boot times are really slow but it works a lot smoother and faster with the update. I will deal with long boot times as its woth it to me, no other problems on mine.

No I dirty flashed from 1.8 to 2.0.0 then I dirty flashed from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 because the ota kept coming back corrupt download so I just flashed the full rom to get from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1

There is no correct version of gapps for the ViperOne ROMS. I usually only save the last two nandroid backups as long as everything seems to be working ok. If you want to save the older ones, well . . . . but you don't have the space on your pc. And sdcards are getting real cheap

SD cards cheap? Um buy a class 10 scandisk ultra 64g top of the line not cheap by any means it might cost you 70 bucks like mine did but well worth it. Viper ROM needs no gapps its a sense ROM so I'm confused with that.

My device was destroyed by something that I flashed here on the threads.

I can't say when it happed. Evidently, it has been on my phone for a long time. I can remember seeing some of this funny crap months ago when I first rooted my phone. One of the mods here has a surfaceflinger hack that will take over your entire system. Your accounts will get hacked. First it was my Google drive. There was a zip file in there that I did not place. It said it was a Metro PCS Note5 zip. It was shared to my drive by someone else, and I could not remove it. So any time I did a factory reset and logged into my Google account, it would be loaded onto my phone. I finally got that cleaned up, but they had moved to my OneDrive storage with the same thing under a different file name. This hack is so smooth, that your phone won't even hesitate. It is disguised as Android OS, but if you check the battery stats, it says surfaceflinger. It is located in your data partition. It is a add on script, and it will eventually infect about 20 more apps with add on scripts. It will load up tons of /data/data along with a recovery from boot script, and..... I just discovered a little too late that there is a script that will destroy your device if you remove it the wrong way. I think the name of it is sec_device_destroy but I can't be sure. I saw the code in a system log file, but I do not know what it is yet. I am 100% positive that some of you have the same problem, you just don't know it. I'm gonna start taking apart every singe file in the development threads until I find it. As for now.... My device is stuck in a infinite bootloop. It won't recover from ODIN, and I have a new LED llight that is white. I can answer any questions and provide screenshots, and system logs if anyone wants to help uncover this beast. It is super legit. Best Android hack I've ever seen. It does every thing. Who is gonna help me locate this b.s? My Note 5 is useless now. Somebody here has it, I assure you, and when you discover it, you should ask for help. If you don't remove every bit of it, the device will not boot again. I'm gonna keep playing with mine, but I'm pretty sure it is toast. ( EDIT---> I was able to get to boot again by flashing TWRP and using the wipe option to repair each partition. I had to change them to exFAT then back to EXT4 to get them to mount.)
Sounds like my boot loop of death. Where everything was Odin flashed and still wouldnt load. Quick question when you were on Odin did you select the band erase all option? And do you still have acesss to recovery? Was all this weird stuff going on when you firmware was load? Did anything strange happen while in recovery? And why didn't u send it back to sprint)
---------- Post added at 10:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:19 PM ----------
If I was in your shoes I would select the band erase all and repartition option. Re download stock firmware from sammobile, go back to Odin to root and add twrp, select the erase button again to flash moar ROM and see what happens. If it's a hack like u said then I'd use my insurance
The potential for having your personal security and financial disaster that something like this could cause is why i stopped rooting.
Rumning other none store apps is like letting a guy you dont know come over and say "hey, i have these cool mods i can do to your car's brakes! I take out a few parts, replace others with parts I made in my garage, and load my own software into your anti-lock brake system".

You can't blame no one if your phone gets fried or blown up, you take the risk at your own discretion . No one force you to flash anything. To avoid any problems don't flash anything your not sure what's going to happen. If i see someone post a s7 edge port, I'm not gonna flash it until i get some good feedback or take one for the team and hope it don't destroy my phone. Goodluck fixing your phone don't seem like it's too hard to fix depending your experience . I would help but it's too time consuming helping fix a phone i can't even see or test out.

I'm really sorry that this happened to you. But @bonebeatz1234 is right. There is a disclaimer at the beginning of every rom, feature add-on, theme, kernel, etc. The whole point of Q&A & replys are so you can find out if something is "okay" to flash. There are so many known developers that have built stuff for so many devices. Its rare to find something on XDA that is "unsafe." I can't even remember ever finding anything that is "unsafe" or nearly as bad as you are describing. Especially for the Sprint Note 5. I'm assuming you have a SM-N920P do to the fact that you're posting it here. There have only been a few roms for this device & maybe a couple handfuls of add-ons. The one or two things I've seen that have caused problems with this device, they were removed with-in a few hours. You weren't very clear on where you got this hack at all. Are you saying it was something you downloaded from one of the Sprint Galaxy Note 5 threads? You are a Senior Member. So, I'm assuming you know what you are talking about. I believe that it is very possible you did get it from some place on here. But, in order for me to believe that, I have to also believe that it is just as possible that it could have came form anywhere else on the web via public WiFi connection, email, file download, text message, USB connection or at least 100 other ways. @DAvid_B made a point about the risk of rooting your device. Although the risk can go up for threats. The same rules apply for rooted device as they do for non-rooted devices. BE CAREFUL! Use software to protect yourself, read reviews, don't be the guinea pig. If you are like me & are addicted to putting yourself at some (if even the smallest) amount of risk, HAVE INSURANCE! Most if not all people have to agree that it's worth the $11 a months & $200 deductible to have as much fun as we all do. Its a hobby. People spend more money on model airplanes, playing golf & hunting. I haven't had to file a claim in over 6 years. I say all that to say this... Anyone that see's this thread & decides its too much of a risk to root, I promise you, IT ISN'T! The advantages out way the risk by about a 1000! The members of XDA are here to help with any issues you may have. There are VERY FEW things that are UNFIX-ABLE! And when I say "very few" I mean little to non! When I say little to non, I mean NONE! AT ALL! Even the problem he described IS FIXABLE! Like he stated, ask for help. @Sleepycloud, I pray you get this resolved. Even if you have to Odin back to stock & backup/wipe your Google Drive & OneDrive account, I know you can fix this. Please don't think that I meant any disrespect for posting this. I just want people to know this is extremely rare & only a one in a million chance it could happen.

I'm not mad. Lol Not at all. I am a true geek to the heart. This is fun stuff to me. You learn more when you are challenged beyond your current skillset. I'm just putting everybody up to the fact that there is something malicious here in the threads. I have a strong feeling of where it came from. I already to apart the "Stock" .tar and found 3 extra files in it. A param.bin file, a carrier .img and a PIT file. I am one hundred percent sure that when I take that PIT file apart later that I will be able to confirm my suspicions. According to the thread here by @tdunham in this thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...sprint-galaxy-note-5-sm-n920p-partition-There are 19 partitions. I believe that I have 24 or 25. I'll have to get back with y'all on this one. Can anybody confirm that this partition table is still viable for Marshmallow? I'll post screenshots in about an hour or two for everyone to examine. I would love some help on this. I have never removed partitions before and my knowledge on how to go about it is limited. I'm reading, but most of it is unrelated garbage. If anyone has a link that will help me educate myself and remove these partitions, I would be super thankful.

That is pretty awesome of you bro. I am pretty sure I have correctly identified the problem. I have 4 or 5 extra partitions. This is why it keeps coming back, and that is why ODIN and Smart Swithc does not fix it. They are only going to see the 19 partitions they are supposed to see and they will not even look anywhere else. I bought a root partition app on Google Play for $9.99 and that is how I saw the extra partitions. This has been on my phone for a long time. A very long time. Like 6 months, but I never knew it. I can remember seeing about 5 USB folders that I could not open. They are labeled as external usb storage. I'll post screen shots later. So now that I know what the problem is, I see a bright side coming soon. lol

Some times when a Samsung device gets bricked you need whats called a PIT that can reflash the partitions. It's on here somewhere or I have one.

I have one. It doesnt work because a PIT file will only reset the factory image partitions. When there are additional partitions, it does not touch them. I have one extended partition after boot. Everything gets rearranged under /sys/dev/block/8:0 have you ever heard of that? Me neither. Lol I need to disect this and remove the script after a fresh flash before the first boot. Something tells me that it would be easier to deal with then. Ill post some pics from my computer here in a bit. I dont have the option on my phone
Here are some pics of the new extended partition and the logical partitions within.

I've seen some pretty crazy partition set ups the HTC Desire for instance has over 20 partitions and all of them have close to 200MB of free space on them that you can't even use! Talk about a waste of space lol.. But /sys/dev/block/8:0?!?! The fuuu... What kind of partition is that?!
Damn, your phones using almost all the ram/memory that you have.. Are you running a lot of apps or something else that's memory intensive?
So now the million dollar question is..... What is it gonna take to remove this b.s. from my phone. Removing the folders does not work. They get reinstalled upon every boot. I need to find the script(s) and where they are hidden, and delete them, then remove the partitions form the logical folder. I am tempted to just wipe the logical partition it its entirety then create a whole new partition table based on my unrooted Note 5. However, I am going to wait until I get some solid feedback from one of y'all. Who has an idea of what I need to do here. Repartitioning with a PIT file does not work. IT does not touch these extra partitions. I think they are labeled, sdb, sdc, and sdd.
I'm just gonna go ahead and let the world know who the piece of crap is. Here... go take a look for yourself. Download the "stock" tar and extract it, then extract the .tar itself. You'll find the extra files there. It contains a param.bin file, a carrier.img, and a modified PIT file that will give you the crap on my phone. If I could be my hands on this dude, I would choke him until he was purple. This has been a major pain in my ass for over 3 months now. My accounts were hacked, all of them, files were deleted, and I had no privacy what so ever. Here... This is where it came from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/project-noble-firmware-pit-file-galaxy-t3179529

Deleting them is not going to work no matter which way you remove them they'll come right back after a reboot and the only way to stop that from happening is to flash a custom kernel/boot that's got write protection off. If you don't have that they just keep coming back no matter what.. All the apps are usually always in these 2 places /system/apps and /system/priv-apps

I hava already tried that. These are add on scripts. They work on any kernel. I have to delete the partions themselves but I'm not exactly sure which ones or how to do it without bricking my phone. I'm gonna move slow on this one until I am sure that II have the right solution. I'm certain it is the sda, sdb, sdc, and sdd partitions that need to be deleted. First I need to know if this partition table is still valid for Marshmallow. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/sprint-galaxy-note-5-sm-n920p-partition-t3190326 Once I know that, I can proceed. Is this PIT still the same in marshmallow?

Yeah that PIT is fine but if I were you I'd try to flash a different kernel because I had the same problems with apps returning after a reboot and the only way to stop that from happening again was to flash the custom kernel. That stopped them from coming back. <----This was on an HTC device so maybe Samsung is different?
This b.s. has my ADB disabled somehow. Even when I open the IOT Menu and switch from MTP to MTP+ADB it still does not work. It does work upon a fresh flash if I let the stock recovery update the system image then immediately go back into download mode before it boots up. After that, I have no ADB capabilities. Would that be a build.prop issue?
So was my advice useless oo?
