I have attached a couple thermal images taken with a FLIR camera, just for reference.
The phone was running a stress test for about 15 minutes prior to taking the pictures.
Maximum CPU temperature reached was 63C. It is overclocked to 2.1Ghz. Volts are whatever is default in beastmode 4.4, using cleanROM 5.1

Just so you can see where it is hot, and where its not.
I've thought about addind some kind of heat sink onto the cpu, but bear in mind I am an insane person who takes apart his toys immediately to tweak them.

Again, I just posted it because I thought it was cool, almost like you can see through the phone a little bit.

Many exaggerated posts regarding the one x's overheating, so finally this pics prove that it's not that bad.
Many chips operate around 60C, sometimes can reach 70 under stress, and the 45C on THE CASING definitely won't burn your hands.

This is why I'm really hoping they work on better battery management for phones coming out in 2012. Does anybody really need a 2ghz quadcore phone when there battery will just die in 3 hrs? I'm perfectly content on 1ghz cpu's(there fast enough) hopefully with any luck future phone displays, cpus, gpus, etc all work together on ICS to bring a couple days of real time use, instead of just a couple hours without having to buy extended batteries/charge etc..

That's what I'm saying man. They're moving too fast with these processor cores. I say, take a year off on engineering processors and spend that time on extending battery life and make better batteries. I'm more than content with dual cores as it is.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Best way to extend battery life is to work on the cpu. If you shrink the cpu the it will use less watts per cycle. Also nvidia made a smart upgrade with its quad core by putting in a fifth slow main core. So work in parallel. Engineers work on making the cpu efficient and programmers should stop being lazy. It's not like these companies can't multi task
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
They said the same thing about dual core saving battery life, that was a joke! Only way I get decent battery life is with my 3500mah extended.
Still I do agree that those 28nm krait s4 chips should take less battery usage, but I'm talking about more then just achieving much longer overall battery life from multiple factoring issues android has(better displays, gpu, cpu, larger stock OEM batteries,ui,etc) hopefully ICS and jellybean really step up to provide the ultimate android experience without having to charge our phones every 4-6 hr's lol

I am using eaglesbloods latest and using morfics elp kernel. I only get battery life like this when I'm in good service areas all day fyi. When I install a rom I really like, I erase the entire phone, reformat everything literally, then load the rom and kernel from USB mount in clockwork mod. I feel its best to have a completely clean flash. Then I charge the phone to 100 and calibrate battery stats. Some days I get battery life where I'm at 20% at 20 hours, others much much better. I'm always using the phone moderately. When I first read tthis and checked I was at 60% at 20 hours. Tried to post a screenshot bur it wouldn't work ... def. not pulling your left though. Also the only thing I sync is email every half hour. I uninstalled Facebook because it always runs in the background... makes me uncomfortable.

Hello I just got my gs4 on Saturday and I have to say that im not as impressed as I thought I would be.
The phone gets quite hot during almost anything. Also is no where near as snappy as my rooted inspire (1.0 ghz single core with less than 1 gb ram). This phone is awesome as far as opening more draining apps like facebook.
I wouldn't think that rooting is needed to be quicker than a 2.5 year old phone...
At this point im considering trading it in for a gs3 or htc one....
And mine is definitely laggy

If it's getting very hot with little usage then I'd exchange it for another.
Also, an update was released today that pretty much solved the lag issues..
Mine got pretty warm last night while playing a simple solitaire game...
It was also eating battery pretty fast.
I rebooted it and it seemed to go away.

I wish I wasnt as affected but I hate when ppl comment on how large my phone is...and I think its because I agree and wish it was smaller. A 4.5 or so with the the same build as this s4 would be mich nicer. And by that I mean a screen that efficiently uses the face of the phone.
Its really tough to determine what is the he perfect size screen and I think over time we will become more tolerant of the pocket consumption. I mean look at the inspire or other older 4.2...it was huge for its time but now its really not considered that anymore.
With that said for the time being I think 4.5 with the smallest possible chassis would be the best.

So, I updated my M8 to the newest firmware and I notice that I am getting about 2500 points lower in AnTuTu Benchmark (34161)... It's not really about worrying... But something changed with the update to skew it that much? I can see it being off by 1000 but 2500 points? That's a pretty big dip when u talk about a benchmark app that's fairly accurate to your device. Like I said, I have not noticed any performance drops I was just curious.

I'm gonna give it a few days before I can judge anything but something def changed with that checkbox crap. Have not been on it that long to notice any other effects besides the one I pointed out. The M8 was delisted from several benchmark tests because it was caught "cheating" so this was the update to address that I assume.
