Heat - HTC One S

Does anyone's phone get really hot with very little use?
Sent from my HTC VIE_U using Tapatalk 2

It's the first batch so could be defective.

My wife's Nexus One gets really hot too. I wonder if it is a side effect of being so thin, not much mass to act as a heat sink so the battery can't dissipate it anywhere except to the back wall of the device?

Mine. Isn't really hot ... I think it's an error of your device.

Black or grey?

My observation is that it runs much cooler than my NexusOne.

Mine gets a little hotter when doing something intensive with it...

Colors don't mater.

No, not really. It gets pretty warm when charged for a while, and once when I took a test video in the car (15 minutes ongoing 720p recording) - in normal use, I feel no warmth at all.

no major heating issue here, after playing games for 1-2 hrs...
just lukewarm

[Q] Has any one experience the heat?

I had left my phone on the charger for 3 hours, I disabled WiFi and mobile network while charging and when I went to take it off the charger it was extremely hot, I checked the temp it was 140 degrees F and quickly power downed my phone for a hour was wondering has anyone else experience this?

Must say this is the "coolest" phone I've owned so far..
Hehe, joke aside, it doesn't actually heat up all that much.
Even when being used or in talk.
mine is always at 40°Celsius after I use it for 5min :/
( 104 Fahrenheit says Google)
Mine gets warm not hot feels so nice when u ain't used ur phone for awhile and it feels cold
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Me too. But it wasn't EXTREMELYhot just hotter than I have ever felt on a phone. But it quickly cooled down after an hour more on the charger.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
I noticed my phone got pretty uncomfortably hot when I had it plugged in my car charger and using the turn-by-turn navigation. At that time I didn't have an app to measure the temp though. I'm going on a trip this weekend so perhaps I'll be able to get some hard data.
In general though it does get pretty warm when it's charging. I'm not too surprised by that since the phone is so thin..
You using OEM charger? Usb charging? Wall charging?

I had mine charging for a few hours, and it didn't get hot at all. I used an OEM HTC charger and cord.

i went through 5 units, they all behaved very differently in terms of heat. so i guess the build quality is to blame here.
been playing Asphalt 6 for 45 min and screen still on downloading Max Payne, not hot at all. My Legend can get hot quick.
edit, about an hour of Asphalt and Max Payne it got pretty hot!
Yup same here ...however once I flashed a different rom the issue went away...good luck
I want to give a big thanks who put their input. Helps a lot of us - new to the phone users good ideas for the heat.

I was equally inmpressed when I ran one of my GPS programs. My last phone HTC Inspire 4G struggled to get 6 satellites and I was locking on 11 of 17 satellites on my HOX. Love it!
Been playing with GPS recently just to practice for an upcoming trip to the US mainland. Boy does routing suck in Honolulu, Hawaii. It's almost as if Google's navigation and Navigon have no clue that we have highways here.
GPS reception has been great though, locking in quickly and reliably.
thnx for the help guys...but lets get back on topic..the gps lock on this thing is unreal! im very impressed with its performance.
anyone else with great gps performance where others have failed?

Yeah the GPS in this thing is pretty badass. The garman my brother uses is terrible.

The GPS is great on this phone! The GPS works ten thousand times better than my captivate. I'm going to try the GPS on my fight to K.C. Also thanks on the screenshot thing! It took me a few times to figure it out.

GPS is almost useless on mine. It looks up fast enough, outdoors...but its ability to hold an accurate location or track is almost non-existent.
Sitting putrefy still, phone on a flat unmoving surface, taking applications like My Tracks, Endomondo, etc., report me moving at speeds up to 8mph and the position indicator just meanders all over the map, sometimes jumping two or three city blocks.
Guessing I have defective hardware since none of the gps fixes housing around have helped.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I was telling someone else about this about a week ago. I was comparing the GPS to my Galaxy Nexus. The GN had about 9-12 satellites in line of sight. Connected to about 8-9. The LTE One X had at the same spot 20-23 in line of sight. Connected to about 9-12. Accuracy was 12 feet with my GN and 9 feet with my LTE One X. The GN works great in the navigation part but what stood out was the amount of satellites the One X was able to see. It was almost 2X's the amount of my GN.

Assuming that you have made sure the satellite gps is turned on that definitely sounds like a defective phone. I hope you can get a replacement with the hold on the phones in customs.
Mine works phenomenally well. Used it to calibrate the speedometer on the boat last weekend. Very fast connection, strong and accurate.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I also noticed how well and accurate GPS works on this phone. It locks very fast on cold start and so far it locked for me inside buildings as well.
But unfortunately there is a down side - it kills battery.
I was also able to get a solid lock from 35,000 feet inside of a plane heading from Vegas to Kansas City. Pretty cool watching that little arrow cruise across the country
One of the first features I checked after upgrading from my captivate. Giddy
3-4m lock in 2 seconds outdoors. 5-7m lock in 2 seconds inside moving car with accurate nav!
GPS is very useable asset now!

My worst fear...found two dead spots on my screen :(

Was browsing the xda app today on the dark theme and I found two dead black spots on my screen. Thankfully they only show up on very dark grey backgrounds and are black. Tried all the dead pixel finders on the market but they don't show up on those...very odd.
Now comes the decision if I fake some things wrong to get a returb or keep it until it gets worse...

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Has something to do with the manufacturing process of the AMOLED screens. Fairly normal from what I have read on here.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
My phone has the same issue. Several dark patches all over on a dark background while in a dark room. That is the only time i ever notice it; doesn't bother me in the least. Other people have sent in phone after phone, every one of them having these these splotches.
It's from the way they glue the screens together and the glue doesn't dry or something in areas.

This happens to all phones, and led/lcd screens for that matter. People just notice and complain more (rightfully so) on more expensive models. 2 of my last 3 phones before this had at least 1 dead pixel.
You should be able to replace it under warranty, no?
Personally my worst fear isn't dead pixels though, it would be waking up to find a naked Rex Ryan fondling my feet...

It its replaceable but you're taking a chance at getting a phone with worse blotches. The OP in this thread had blotches on his replacement phone too.

The blotches are different than dead pixels. Dead pixels are an instant replacement even if just 1.
That's actually a "problem" with all super ambled screens. It happens when the screen isn't lit correctly or bright enough. It's normal and hhappens on all of the screens.

Still interesting to learn some flaws of today's latest technology, who knew it could be something as simple as gluing parts togeather.

I have attached a couple thermal images taken with a FLIR camera, just for reference.
The phone was running a stress test for about 15 minutes prior to taking the pictures.

Many exaggerated posts regarding the one x's overheating, so finally this pics prove that it's not that bad.
Many chips operate around 60C, sometimes can reach 70 under stress, and the 45C on THE CASING definitely won't burn your hands.

Phone getting very warm

Hello I just got my gs4 on Saturday and I have to say that im not as impressed as I thought I would be.
The phone gets quite hot during almost anything. Also is no where near as snappy as my rooted inspire (1.0 ghz single core with less than 1 gb ram). This phone is awesome as far as opening more draining apps like facebook.
I wouldn't think that rooting is needed to be quicker than a 2.5 year old phone...
At this point im considering trading it in for a gs3 or htc one....
And mine is definitely laggy

If it's getting very hot with little usage then I'd exchange it for another.
Also, an update was released today that pretty much solved the lag issues..
Mine got pretty warm last night while playing a simple solitaire game...
It was also eating battery pretty fast.
I rebooted it and it seemed to go away.

Unless you dont mind being mocked for talking on a tablet I would avoid any phone larger than the s4. The note two has its place and it to me is only worthwhile if you carry a purse.... it's a great device but not practical in my opinion, I mean how do you carry that thing?

I wish I wasnt as affected but I hate when ppl comment on how large my phone is...and I think its because I agree and wish it was smaller. A 4.5 or so with the the same build as this s4 would be mich nicer. And by that I mean a screen that efficiently uses the face of the phone.
Its really tough to determine what is the he perfect size screen and I think over time we will become more tolerant of the pocket consumption. I mean look at the inspire or other older 4.2...it was huge for its time but now its really not considered that anymore.
With that said for the time being I think 4.5 with the smallest possible chassis would be the best.
