I apologize ahead of time if this has been asked or even answered but I HAVE been researching and finding NO help in my problem.
I purchased a Straight Talk phone the other day for the SIM chip as my last resort for immediate phone service. I had been told by many people that it would be able to be slapped into my phone and I would have no problems after changing the APN settings. I set up the plan and made my account with Straight Talk and then took the Card out and put it into my device.
My device is rooted with Cyanogen Mod and has S-OFF.
I then tried to start the phone up and got a message saying "No SIM card"
I did not get prompted to enter an unlock code or anything, just the No SIM card error which also means I can't save APNs...
The SIM Card works in the phone I bought it from, which is the Motorola W418G.
Now I have no clue if I am missing something, did I mess up? Or is it that for some god awful reason that SIM chip won't work in my phone at all?
Please any information, links, replies, ANYTHING is HIGHLY appreciated and again I am sorry if this specific question has been asked and answered, I could find nothing on this specific problem and I am hoping I didn't just waste a ton of money on going back to a pretty basic flip phone...

Pretty sure you need sim from another phone, a couple years ago it was the nokia e71. But nowadays you can just order a sim from the website

Please post all questions in the Q&A section. Thanks! Thread moved.
I have the exact same issue as you JV. But I'm experiencing it with a Galaxy Nexus that can't recognize the SIM card that was bought with a Samsung SGH-T528G. The SIM card work fine in the T528G but not in Galaxy Nexus and also not in my wife's previous flip-phone. I have a T-Mobile SIM card that works fine in the Galaxy Nexus and in the flip-phone. And yes, the Nexus is running stock, non-rooted and unlocked (from the Play store).
I'm curious - did you figure out the issue? Any solution for your phone might work for mine... Thanks in advance!

Summary:
Have a Sprint Nexus S
Wrong ROM was flashed resulting in a SIM CARD LOCK on a device which doesn't even have a SIM card, all functionality of device lost
Need either a PUK to unlock or a way to flash correct ROM (usb not recognized on any computer)
Details:
I have been searching forums for days, been to the Sprint store 4-5 times, talked to tech support, international CS, Roaming, etc. Someone from the Sprint store recommended I ask for help from XDA - I hope you can help me!
I have an EVO, it was damaged so before filing an insurance claim, I decided to buy a Nexus from Craigslist because I had been wanting to try the Google phone out. So, I found one online for $180, met the guy and purchased the phone. It was rooted when I got it and would not allow me to get into the programming mode (*#*#811325#*#*) for the Sprint folks to activate it. I talked to them forever and knew in the back of my mind the issue was likely due to the phone being rooted. So, after looking around online for the method to "unroot" the phone, I flashed a stock rom to the device.
Now, it has no signal, under Phone Info, the carrier is unknown, the number is unknown, etc. Under settings (Security), I notice there is a check mark next to "Lock Sim Card, pin required to make calls). I cannot uncheck the box, change the pin, etc without a sim pin number.
I have been told I need a PUK # but Sprint cannot help as they say this phone doesn't even have a place for a SIM card. I have been on the phone with them for hours. Since then, I filed the claim for my EVO and am happily using it. However, I have this phone I just paid close to $200 for which is useless until I get this resolved.
Please help me! I would be forever grateful!
Think you'll need to install the correct ROM, which I believe you can find here:

Flash the correct rom and radio via fastboot.

Just wondering, if his USB is not recognized, would it be recognized in fastboot or recovery? How would he dl a rom/radio if he can't connect USB?
Op I would check for any existing nandroids on the phone.
Sent from my Nexus S
If USB wasn't working, there is still a chance it could work in fastboot. If it was a driver issue yes, if a hardware issue no.

Thanks for your quick replys. I have been a regular visitor of this site for a while and have installed 10+ roms before so I don't consider myself a newbie, however, I'm not sure how I am supposed to download the "correct" rom and install it with no USB. The Nexus doesn't have a mini sdcard slot, only internal memory which must be accessed via USB.
I will google "fastboot" as soon as I get home in case the answer lies right under my nose, however.
Thanks again!
Well I recently purchased a G2x and I wanted to use the phone on the Simple Mobile Network, but when I put the sim card in and power on the phone it states "Invalid Sim Card" now when I contacted LG about this their tech support stated that I need a new sim card, but that makes no sense because the sim card works on other phones so as you can see I'm at a loss as what to do or what could be wrong. I've included what it shows as far as the system information that I see. Also I should mention that the phone starts up fine, but it never requests an unlock code??

Are you sure that it works with other carriers than T-mobile? If you are sure, replace your SIM card.
I have no problem with simple mobile, try a new sim

Did you unlock the device? It may need to be unlocked for your Simple Mobile SIM...
The phone has been unlocked and the crazy part is that I put a brand new sim card in it and it still would come up as no sim card. So I'm at at a loss now because the only sim that seemed to respond was tmobile, but the ones I used from simple mobile would not be read.
Go to the Dev section and look at CWM. Make your phone bullet proof first.
Then in CWM wipe everything but the SD card. If you need help let us know. Download a rom (I use weapon) using your computer. Place it on your SD card. Load CWM. Select install zip. Select the rom on your SD card. Let it install then wait 10 minutes reboot wait five minutes then log on and enjoy.
Also look at the wind united post. It may help.
Make sure you are inserting the sim fully and it is making contact. Also sometimes it does that and reboot fixes it.
Thank you all for the info and help. I really would like to avoid having to root the phone.. I did find out though from LG that apparently these phones are having problems with the IMEI number... A representative stated to me that if the phone says "Invalid Sim" then you must contact T-Mobile so they can unlock the IMEI number, but in my case it is saying that there is "No Sim Card" I've used At&t, T-Mobile and Simple Mobile sims and it still says "No Sim Card" which leads me to believe that it is a hardware issue and I'm actually sending it in for repair....
So for any of you who get the "Invalid Sim" dont bother calling LG cause they will basically give you the shaft and send you back to T-Mobile to get the problem resolved...
Hmm......sometimes I put my sim card the wrong way which gave me invalid sim card msg..... so just double check that the cut off edge is on the right side.
Also, if your phone is indeed unlocked, try unlocking it again it would not hurt.
I would also check the radio frequencies capabilities for your phone because simple network might not support that. For example, I use wind network in canada, which uses the radio frequency equivalent of 1700, which is also compatible to t-mobile g2x.
Hope this helps.
You said it has worked with a T-mobile sim card? Are you sure? Borrow someone's sim card for a few minutes (one that has an account on it) and see if it works.
If it does than it sounds like the phone is actually locked.
If it doesn't than the phone is the problem. It's either on the wrong baseband (not 1700) or it's a hardware problem.
Honestly, even a locked T-mobile phone should work with Simple Mobile. I have set up 2 locked phones with them already (one G2x today, and one older phone) with sim cards from ebay.
So the final question is, did you buy a Simple Mobile "activation kit" or just a replacement sim card? You need a NEW, unopened sim card kit. Ebay could have sold you a previously owned one.
Hope this helps.

One more thing. If an active T-mobile card works in it you could try forcing the APN settings to Simple Mobile.
Root your phone (it's easy I promise!) There is also an unroot application you can install if you're worried. Look in the market.
Then install an app in the market called APN Manager. Delete the T-mobile APN listing. (write the t-mobile settings down so you'll be able to add it again if necessary.)
If all of this is too much for you, seriously just exchange the phone and start over. But MAKER SURE the new phone is for a USA 1700 cell phone service!

Umm......the G2x is P999.....this is the right forum section. And that forum link is to this forum section....
Also, I should add that you should be on stock ROM if your using this phone on a different carrier. The unlock menue doesn't show up on CM7....unless they've changed something int he past couple months.
Well I've sent in the phone for repair so hopefully I get this resolved at some point, but thanks everyone for the info I'll keep you updated.
New guy here.
I recently purchased an AT&T i727 with the plan to use the bring your own phone program with straight talk. Even with the sim card activated, the phone reads "No Sim Card. Emergency Calls Only". I've used the sim card in other phones, so I know it's functional. I've rooted the phone and installed different roms, but I still get the same error. I can't edit any of the APN or network settings because it tells me I need to have a sim card inserted to do so.
I feel like I'm not super clueless at things like this, but I've done everything I know how to do. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Take it easy on me guys.
Thanks in advance
Sound like the phone isn't unlocked. There is a thread here on how to unlock it for free. Look in the general section.

Assuming the ST SIM is at&t SIM card , and it was working before , the problem might be somewhere around your phone , either SIM card slot , bad radio or blocked-from-network Skyrocket ... is it a craigslist phone ?
It is an AT&T compatible ST sim. I've already entered codes to unlock it and they all said the unlock was successful.
I actually purchased the phone on eBay. (I'm sure everyone will laugh upon reading that)
If the sim card works in other phones and doesn't work in your skyrocket but you have it in the correct way in the sim slot then it's gonna be your sim card slot. With ST your phone doesn't have to be unlocked for the sim card to work in it. Trust me on that I'm using my skyrocket on ST and have used about 10 different AT&T phones on ST and none of them were unlocked until I sold them. You'll need to get ahold of eBay and paypal (who you hopefully used) and try and get your money back. Otherwise you have a really expensive mp3 player.
Sorry for the bad luck but that's what it looks most like to me. I used to work for AT&T and that's the logical problem. I would say try and get a warranty for it but I doubt it still has a warranty and even if it did AT&T and Samsung wouldn't do anything about it because a problem with the sim card slot is considered physical damage. You'll just have to try and get your money back for the phone.
Just my advice and $.02
Hey Guys!!!
I wish there was a quicker way to get all this out so let's get started:
A few weeks ago, I bought a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 from a coworker. When she gave me the phone, she left the sim card in the phone. So I made a test call. Forgetting that sim cards store info about the plan and such other important info, I trashed her sim card and went to a corporate Verizon store for my own sim card. I couldn't use my sim card because my other phone is an iPhone 5 that has a nano sim card and I didn't have a sim card adapter. As soon as the Verizon representative put the sim card in and started up the phone the activation screen popped up and started to activate, finally realizing the activation was taking extremely longer than normal the vzw rep told me to let it continue to activate while you go home, if it doesn't work try again. So I did what I was told, needless to say the phone would never activate. So I called customer service to get my iPhone 5 activated since the Galaxy s3 wasn't working. I was then told that it couldn't happen because my service was stuck in a switch that wouldn't end until midnight and then I could call the next day to reactivate. The next day after customer service sent me another sim card the same thing happened. After going through 4 sim cards the same thing happened. I then called Samsung Support and sent my phone to them, they claimed it was fix but the only thing that was done was they upgraded my firmware to 4.1.2 and fixed my charging port which wasn't messed up since the phone charged before I sent it off. At my wits end I got desperate, I cut up on of the "damaged" sim cards and put it in my iphone 5, immediately it activated itself without me even having to log on the vzw website. I then took the sim card out and put it back into the galaxy s3 with the sim adapter I purchased and the activation box never came up. Instead I called customer service and they tell me that the iphone 5 is still active on my account even though the iphone 5 has no sim card in it and is turned off. The online vzw tech informed me that the system wouldn't let them switch the imei numbers on the phone. Long story short I have what I think is an unrooted phone that won't activate.
P.S. The phone isn't lost or stolen. I asked them and he said no them system would've flagged the phone.
My questions are what do you guys think is wrong with the phone? Is this normal? Can it be fixed? If so, how? What would you do? What should I do?

Feel free to delete this post. It doesn't seem as if anyone cares to answer my question. Thanks anyway.
No one is answering the question because we have no answers for it. Also don't expect us to answer as soon as you post as like you we all have a life and that is more important so we will respond as soon as we possibly can.
Sounds like a issue with your line. Someone who knows what they're doing at vzw probably needs to submit a trouble ticket for you.

Yesterday, I received a new StraightTalk MicroSIM (ATT compatible) for my new Nexus 5. I have been using a StraightTalk T-Mobile compatible one that I used in my old phone. I activated the new SIM, using the automated phone system. This morning I saw that my phone still had no service. That is, zero bars, I cannot make calls or text. Of course data doesn't work either. I logged into my account and it said that the transfer to the new SIM is complete. So I called StraightTalk and was transferred 5 times to people who did the same trouble shooting with me every time. Their trouble shooting: power off your phone, take out your SIM and then start it back up. Then they said they need to send me a new SIM card.... Here is my issue, I feel like they don't know what they are doing so their answer is just to send me another SIM.
My question: Did anyone else have this experience or ideas on getting the phone to work? I've tried different APNs with no different results.
Okay, this is odd. I figured, since I won't have phone service for a while, I would root my phone. After I rooted my phone, everything works. I can make calls and data works. Not sure what changed but when the device was rooted, it also did a factory reset. After 50 minutes of crappy customer service, I think I'll just take the new SIM card they are sending.
Takes a while for them to activate it sometimes. I was with customer services for 2 hours trying to activate my Sim card because it wouldn't let me online.
Their customer service, signal penetration might suck, but it's way cheaper, which I'm good with.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I wonder if maybe that is what happened but I think it probably had to do with the factory reset.
I do want to post one final thing since everything has played out today... On the phone I asked them to expedite the package since this is my work phone and ONLY phone. Today, FedEx delivered a new SIM card... it was the card only. No other packaging or information. It was the wrong SIM... I needed a micro and they sent a regular SIM... but at least they tried. After receiving the SIM today, I don't feel so bad about the situation. Things may have been different if my phone didn't miraculously start working. I would have had to cut down the regular sized SIM... to find out if it is an ATT or Tmobile version... it's probably the Tmobile versions, since I ordered the ATT version. Thats how things go... have a good day!
READ THE NEXT POST FOR CONTINUED ISSUES
*** I'm going to keep posting my experience, in case anyone else can find the information useful. ***
My service should have Auto-Refilled today. However, when I went to make a call, I found out my service was deactivated. I thought maybe Auto-Refill was disabled when I transferred to the new microSIM. Unfortunately, after spending another 45 minutes on the phone with customer service, I found out that they activated the replacement SIM that they sent me... the one that doesn't fit my phone and appears to be a Tmobile SIM. So, instead of just re-activating the microSIM that was working yesterday, they have to send me another one. I confirmed with them that they will be sending an AT&T compatible microSIM. We will see what I receive.
