Samsung = average build quality + sh***y accessories

Nokia phones have always been fantastically build (WP or not). So I'd have to go with Nokia.
If we are talking just Android phones, I would go with Samsung or the Google Nexus phones.

Phone Brands...
The only two companies to produce anything amazing that I have tested so far would have to be HTC and Motorola. Granite, Motorola doesn't quite have the whole keyboard phone thing down, their Droid X2 and Razr devices are pretty solid. HTC are generally a number 1 producer. If I had to pick a third place operative, it would have to be Samsung. Once they got off their a**es and actually figured out how to design a phone, their Galaxy line seems pretty solid. Although their durability could be a bit better. :good:

[Q] Need a new Smartphone for $300.

I have an old Samsung dumbphone and I want to upgrade. My budget is <=$300 and I'd prefer Android over other OSes. I don't live in the US, so, I have no ISP preference and will only buy unlocked phones.
So, what's the best phone for ~$300?
Get Xperia phones like Neo V. You might have to add a few dollars but it's worth it.
yea the neo v looks pretty good, might go for it. Thanks
the HTC Desire S is a good phone with a aluminium body. costs about 270€
support from devs is very good!!
The Desire S is about 280 on handtec, about the same as the Xperia.
The Motorola DEFY Plus is about 190, pretty good price IMO but what about the phone itself? Is it any good?
Visit the Chinese online shops (like Tinydeal for examle). There's a great selection of phones and you may well meet your budget.
Get the SE Xperia Arc S,really good phone it has 512mb ram, 1.4ghz single core processor, [email protected], adreno 205, android 2.3 upgradable to 4.0

I don't want generic chinese phones because I don't think they have good support in terms of software. I'd rather go with a famous brand and get regular software patches and general support.
Phone under $300
Hi,
You can have HTC Wildfire its cost is under $300. Its a very good design phone with all great features. Specifications- 5Mega pixel camera autofocus and LED Flash, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 3G, WiFi, GPS with A-GPS support and many more great features.
You can try optimus 2x . I think you can find one under 300. Its dual core. If can't chech about captivate...

Well according to the specs (pretty disappointing, but expected that from HTC), its just an ICS installed HTC Desire S...
Single core processor, well, is not future proof according to me... But if u want the HTC experience and prefer looks over specs, then it is for you at that price range...

Watch out the size of the mobile. It is just 2/3rd size of galaxy r. You need the bigger display to enjoy ics, surf, games etc. My friend recently bought in poorvika Chennai. They did not have the dummy piece and asked him to pay before they open the box and show the piece. I don't like the physical buttons and design. Those spaces could have been used for display.

It depends on expectations, it's clearly a successor of HTC legend, and it has its advantages and disadvantages. User interface is pretty nice, u cannot even compare ****ty tw style. HTC tries at least make some modification in their ui, not like sammy. I can bet that camera is not worse than ours. Unibody feels more sturdy and solid. And think that not everyone is an android freak that likes huge and fast devices. But even here devs interest will be most possibly much bigger than in case of sgr. If the price is good I think it's worth to consider.

price difference of sgr and one v
(in indian markets)
sgr ~21000 INR(~405 USD)

I thought about it too! I just don't trust HTC after my adventure with Incredible S and qualcom snapdragon is not the fastest cpu (1,5 ghz in SGS II Lte is not as fast as 1,2 hgz exynos in sgs II). If not exynos I would prefer Ti OMAP. So I'll wait till somebody test it.
Well, it is obviously not as good as the R going by specs. But mostly everybody has had some issue or the other with the R. HTC devices are the most reliable in my experience.
And the dev support would be awesome.

one s have 1.5 ghz dual core processor which is next gen arm v9 (considered as a one of the fastest smart phone), it have awesome specs like samoled display, 8mpix shooter, preloded ics. but its much expensive compared to one v
one v is 18500 INR (~350 USD)
one s is 34000 INR (~650 USD)
I really don't believe that this Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon (1.5 ghz) is gonna be faster than samsung exynos in sgs2.

Wow...that's really hard to believe, but if it's true then I'm really impressed.
Well, I have never used any of the flagship devices by samsung for any extended periods of time.
But my experience with Galaxy R and Galaxy SL have NOT been amazing.
Reflashing firmwares. Wiping cache. Spending hours on google researching the problem you are having.
Never a samsung again for me.
My next device would be either a HTC or a Sony.
Mine experience is far away from being amazing but it's ok, everything has worked as it should. The only thing that bothers me is lack of both samsung's and devs' support for SGR.
I would never buy a "poorer brother" of a flagship model ever again. IT turned out to be an unwanted child. Next one will be a flagship - due to best support from each side, even the older one like SGS2....but most probably will be a Nexus.

Suggestion of the best android phone?

Hello,
I want to upgrade my phone to high end android (have been using windows mobile 6.5.3 and android 2.3.7 )
so i have looked over some thing like 20 phones and i could not pick one that will i will be able to like my own child .
The problem is mainly since all the phones have the same price, ie,. the htc desire HD have 4,3" display and 1 ghz cpu while the LG optimus 2x have the same 3.4" display but with dual core cpu and over eBay the price is the same for me, so what to choose HTC or a little cheaper LG ?
And that effects all phone so if you pls can you suggest me some phones and a reason why you have suggested them over other phones.
I prefer bid displays over 4.0" and thin around ~10mm
I am asking since i will buy a phone which will stay with me over several years before i will choose to replace it,
(got stack with Moto Defy with 3 year contract - and its bad .. very bad... )
thank you for any help.
HTC for sure. I believe them to be second best to Samsung phones at this point. All you have to do is look at user reviews.

I would definitely go with a dual core and I would agree that HTC is better than LG. If your going to play any graphic intensive games you definitely need a dual core processor with at least 1G of RAM. A quad core processor is the way to go if your outside the U.S.

i have tried to search for the best option . like the HTC HD2 which developers just can't get enough of it.
but the phone is old, Galaxy s 1 is way too expansive for a 2 years old phone, and the HTC is a general expensive device.
So i could find only the LG Nitro which is a good phone for its $ .. $470 for a 4.5" HD with dual core cpu and 10mm thick, can't find any thing better..
HTC are mostly fat devices and i can't see any reason why but the thin cost as double as $550 .. and onlt 480-800 res. while the LG is
around 1280x720 res.
see my problem?
Besides it all the phones run Android so there is not problem modding it , and the Nitro have Cyanogen 9.0 support so it should be solid for a while.

Have you heard about mi-two? Google for it to find more information. Generally it looks awesome with 4 cores clocked at 1,5GHz, Adreno320 GPU, 4,3" IPS display with ~340dpi (30% more the iPhone4S) and great battery capacity. The only problem is that it might not be easily available outside China. But if I will be able to get one I will do it without thinking much about it.
The Optimus 2x is a 4 inch 800x480 screen, not 4.3
Anyway, due to ****ty support from LG, prices for it have absolutely tanked.. It's now available from $200-300 outright.
The good news? ICS is coming out very soon for it (rumored). Apparently it's in the testing stage.
So might be a very cheap way for you to get a fairly high end dual core for stuff all money.

Xiaomi mi-two $550 preorder now on eBay. it will be cheaper for me to GS III OR HTC ONE X i just don't like these devices - gs iii due to plastic and htc one x due to 16 giga with out micro sd card memory while i use around 40 giga on a phone.
any way i just thought you could suggest me a device and a reason why it is better then LG and so far i see that they are non, i never saw a company which give any support for a phone... so i am not looking for support .
Any way thank you all i have decided to buy the LG device the Nitro - looks great and cheaper then most devices. btw LG is also manufacturing Apple and Samsung mobile parts so i can't see why it should be worth quality.
Buy HTC One X. It is a really cool phone !!!

Best low end android phone

Wife wants one but as she has not much experience with smartphones (except symbian) a low end device would be a good starting point.
Decent camera, 5mpix+ and power to run Web browser so it's not frustrating.
Ofc the bigger the screen the better.
Main use case would still be talking so if there are problems with built in speaker or modem sw that would be deal killer.
Any suggestions?
Price max 120€, that's ~150$ and needs to be available/shipped to Europe.

I would get a decent one and just strip the programs she wont use. I personally regretted getting abasic one to start with a week later when I wanted more out of it and had to go buy another. Same with my wifes phone.. hers lasted about a month. Same with BOTH of our tablets. May as well start out with what you are going to want if you ask me.

I'd get a mid-range phone. Maybe one that is over a year old but still powerful, like the Galaxy S2. Probably better off getting a phone that used to be top of the line and has been discounted heavily due to depreciation as opposed to a phone that is entry level. I would really stray from weak Android phones.
Thanks guys for the replies. Will rethink my strategy here

^This.
I wouldn't recommend a low-end Android phone to anyone, as it simply defies the whole concept of smartphone. It is not exactly "smart" when you have to wait whole eternity for a simple operation as starting a web browser, and doing a search. My Wildfire got so slow, that even typing an SMS was frustrating because of slowdowns. When using a offline navigation (IGo), I had to wait several minutes for program to load, and for GPS initialization. Even after it loads, it is frustrating to use it, because of weak CPU.
I guess, any phone with 1Ghz processor will be a good start...
All guys here are right........low end Android phones are very slow.

Part of it is I speak from experience. I got my wife a Samsung Intercept for Virgin Mobile about a year ago and it was abhorrent. It was a low-end phone when we got it and it didn't take long for it to just become nearly unusable. Even with a FroYo upgrade it still sucked. Between the horrible phone speed and horrible internet speed that Virgin provided, we did a complete 180 and I got her an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and now we do T-Mobile PAYG 4G plan. Now she's really uses her phone for web stuff, apps, messaging, and taking photos, as opposed to before with the Intercept where she could just message and talk for the most part.

Why should i decide to stay with one s?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a couple of questions. HTC ONE S is a beautiful phone, fast, the best to the touch and with a processor speed but ... But in the period where they are baked increasingly cheap quad core and even dual core as the new pro s4 are faster. In addition there is the problem that is not particularly supported by Community, stay with One S?
Express your thoughts thanks
If you want a dull vanilla android then yes ! But I would stay with one s or maybe shift to one x , one x+ or Samsung galaxy s3 ,try using a aokp/aosp Rom that's how a nexus device is,, very plain !! , if you got money to spent go buy some other quad cores like one x and sgs3 , people go with HTC and Samsung coz of their innovative ui ( sense for HTC and touchwiz for Samsung) . Android has only be rocking because of Samsung HTC and Sony , nexus devices are cheaper but not that enjoyable ,

I would say opposite of what this guy says. Samsung and HTC throw crappy interfaces over stock android making it slower and only causing you to not get the updated operating system timely on your phone. Vanilla android is best and I'm planning to buy nexus 4 as soon as it's out. One decent reason to stick with one s is that you don't have money to throw around buying the latest and greatest phone.

If the answer to either of these questions is yes then buy another phone.

People wants to be trendy. Mostly iPhone users. Do not be like them.
As @Troute said: Is the phone unable to do something that you need it to do?
I find support pretty decent depending on what you're looking for. There's a good variety of different ROMs available to suit your tastes. Even though there's faster phones available now, it really depends on what you need to make your phone work for you. If you don't notice any issues with lag, performance is good, and battery life is good then I think things should be ok?

I spent $285 on this phone I think I got a solid deal. Definitely don't get an iphone anywhere near retail value. If I had to get a phone right now I would buy the Nexus 4.
Well as it stands right now the nexus 4 is gonna be strictly worst than our phone cuz LG made it. Anyone one else confused on that?
I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol
I mainly need a really powerful camera to replace compact digital camera for daily use, I don't want to take two devices go out. So, I will stay with One S and not to go with N4 like everyone else here.
I will probably buy a new phone later when HTC or Sony introduces their new camera sensor. HTC is going to roll out 5" 1080 J Butterfly with 8M cam in Dec on Japan, wanna see if the sensor get improved and I might get one.

I say go for a onex+ or a s3. imma skip out on this round of smartphones though cuz our one s is one of the top phones out. Everytime i pull it out ppl are like OMG what phone is that. pretty much once the wow factor is gone its time for an upgrade lol

LG is guilty of terrible software, but with the Nexus 4 that's not an issue. The hardware of the Nexus 4 is patchwork. On one hand you have the quad core S4 pro, on the other you're stuck with only 12gb of accessible space. On one hand you have an amazing screen, on the other the battery life sucks and can't be upgraded. You have to decide what you can tolerate to decide if a Nexus is for you. I love AOSP, but HATE limited storage. I love the resolution, but HATE the battery life. So I won't be getting a Nexus 4.

I may get the nexus 4 it will have a lot of devs working on it and I could just flash a sense rom onto the phone because I like sense. And I really want nfc
It's only 280 pound for 16gb and it beats the GS3 in specs

I don't like the thing that they're delaying new updates too much and plus it's not that well made except the ceramic body ofc
