Suggestion of the best android phone? - General Topics

Hello,
I want to upgrade my phone to high end android (have been using windows mobile 6.5.3 and android 2.3.7 )
so i have looked over some thing like 20 phones and i could not pick one that will i will be able to like my own child .
The problem is mainly since all the phones have the same price, ie,. the htc desire HD have 4,3" display and 1 ghz cpu while the LG optimus 2x have the same 3.4" display but with dual core cpu and over eBay the price is the same for me, so what to choose HTC or a little cheaper LG ?
And that effects all phone so if you pls can you suggest me some phones and a reason why you have suggested them over other phones.
I prefer bid displays over 4.0" and thin around ~10mm
I am asking since i will buy a phone which will stay with me over several years before i will choose to replace it,
(got stack with Moto Defy with 3 year contract - and its bad .. very bad... )
thank you for any help.

HTC for sure. I believe them to be second best to Samsung phones at this point. All you have to do is look at user reviews.

I would definitely go with a dual core and I would agree that HTC is better than LG. If your going to play any graphic intensive games you definitely need a dual core processor with at least 1G of RAM. A quad core processor is the way to go if your outside the U.S.

i have tried to search for the best option . like the HTC HD2 which developers just can't get enough of it.
but the phone is old, Galaxy s 1 is way too expansive for a 2 years old phone, and the HTC is a general expensive device.
So i could find only the LG Nitro which is a good phone for its $ .. $470 for a 4.5" HD with dual core cpu and 10mm thick, can't find any thing better..
HTC are mostly fat devices and i can't see any reason why but the thin cost as double as $550 .. and onlt 480-800 res. while the LG is
around 1280x720 res.
see my problem?
Besides it all the phones run Android so there is not problem modding it , and the Nitro have Cyanogen 9.0 support so it should be solid for a while.

Have you heard about mi-two? Google for it to find more information. Generally it looks awesome with 4 cores clocked at 1,5GHz, Adreno320 GPU, 4,3" IPS display with ~340dpi (30% more the iPhone4S) and great battery capacity. The only problem is that it might not be easily available outside China. But if I will be able to get one I will do it without thinking much about it.

The Optimus 2x is a 4 inch 800x480 screen, not 4.3
Anyway, due to ****ty support from LG, prices for it have absolutely tanked.. It's now available from $200-300 outright.
The good news? ICS is coming out very soon for it (rumored). Apparently it's in the testing stage.
So might be a very cheap way for you to get a fairly high end dual core for stuff all money.

Xiaomi mi-two $550 preorder now on eBay. it will be cheaper for me to GS III OR HTC ONE X i just don't like these devices - gs iii due to plastic and htc one x due to 16 giga with out micro sd card memory while i use around 40 giga on a phone.
any way i just thought you could suggest me a device and a reason why it is better then LG and so far i see that they are non, i never saw a company which give any support for a phone... so i am not looking for support .
Any way thank you all i have decided to buy the LG device the Nitro - looks great and cheaper then most devices. btw LG is also manufacturing Apple and Samsung mobile parts so i can't see why it should be worth quality.

Buy HTC One X. It is a really cool phone !!!

nexus s vs optimus 2x?

hello! i want to replace my desire hd with another phone.
i am stuck between two models. which should i buyand why?
i know that optimus 2x is more powerfull but, i've seend that nexus s is much faster.
i'm not entirely sure that my opinion is based on anything other than love for my nexus, but yes: NEXUSSSSSSSs
The Nexus S looks faster because it has a way more powerful GPU which directly translates into smoother transitions.
G2x dual core A9 CPU. POS GPU.
Nexus S? Single core A8 CPU. Amazing SGX540 GPU.
In reality? They probably perform the same however stock Android gives the Nexus S the edge, that is until dual cores are "properly supported" in Android (if that even ends up helping, really).
Not to mention Gingerbread was coded for the Nexus S with optimizations for the Hummingbird chipset in mind. And did I ever mention OTA's straight from Google? And Super AMOLED...
Nexus! Only because its a N family member and there will be ton of development for it.
I would get G2X just because it has a dual core so it's more future proof compared to the Nexus even though it will get updates, it's a single core. Also the G2X is stock Froyo also and is receiving the GB update very soon. Also CM has added G2X to their supported list I believe.
2x is a failure, there will be another model out from LG which means it's not going to be supported anymore once new one comes out.
Nexus S is one of the Nexus family so you will get constant updates til you get a new phone.
BTW: what about Atrix?

I don't know about the new LG phone but I heard the atrix is a pos. The LG would probably be better than the Atrix.

isn't the lg 2x built with tegra2 from nvidia?
is tegra2 worse than sgx540?
nexus s, yeaaaay my dream phone
Disire HD is COOL i use hd2 its als realy nice phone you can play arround with multiple option
i think if you have 3 for 1...you just buy an atrix
media center on tv and phone
linux on tv
and android gingerbread on the future
tegra 2 and 1gb amout of ram =) more than other device.....
Just get the Optimus 2X. It's dual core, and it supports games designed especially for Nvidia Tegra 2 phones.
I have had both the Optimus 2x and the Nexus S and I would say go with the Nexus S, the design is better, its faster as it runs Android 2.3.3 on the other hand the LG is running FroYo and it's an SLCD screen and uses ALOT of battery life.
The battery life on the Nexus S is better and would use less battery with the screen as it is AMOLED.
Without a doubt, choose the Nexus S, you would only be dissapointed with the LG Optimus 2x, I traded mine in for a Galaxy S II and it was the best decision I ever made as far as smartphones go.

desire hd is good enough not to swap it with a nexus s.
but when it comes to lg optimus 2x or any other dual core , go for the dual core phones.
nexus s is easy to take care of.
go for nexus s,it has lot of development support
Optimus 2x - HDMI out, miss that feature in my current epic4g
// this message is nonsense 8/8. Hopefully now I can get "search in thread".
I vote for the Optimus (sorry but me as well is just posting for getting to 10 posts)
I love my n1, but the nS is a cheap piece of plastic crap. I really dislike most of Samsung's lineup in fact. Get the g2x and root it. That way u can have dual core and Gingerbread.
not even 720p vs. 1080p video recording
1 GHz vs 1 (dual) GHz
Gingerbread vs Froyo
non removable storage (and only 1 GB for apps) vs. removable storage
Super AMOLED vs Super LCD (I prefer LCD). AMOLED screens aren't exactly the best with whites at all, in fact, they kind of suck with whites (unless it is Super AMOLED Plus, but that is clearly not on the Nexus S).
7.2 mpbs vs. 21 mpbs
Gimmick glass vs. Gorilla glass
HDMI output on the G2x.
I would wait for the HTC Sensation seeing that it actually has decent specs and I kind of want it.
But if you are impatient... Go for the G2x just because it has specs that aren't last gen.

[Q] HTC HD2 vs Lg Optimus 2x

So yeah I'm not sure which one to get.
HTC HD2 vs Lg Optimus 2x
Both have their benefits and negative sides.
The HTC HD2 has a larger screen but a slower processor and it's an older mobile. The LG has a smaller screen but has a dual core processor, a better camera and already running on android.
I will be flashing the HD2 to android but I'm not sure which phone to get anyways
HD2 so old,but so good mobile phone.
I think you should go on Lg Optimus, because it's newer and faster than HD2.
Have you think about Galaxy II?

Id say it depends what you want "long term", a phone with one OS, or one that is adaptable to anything?
Dual core, pffft, who needs it. My HD2 is fast whatever i choose to run on it
Seriously though, write yourself a list of pros & cons for each, it will help you decide

Yeah I've looked at the Galaxy S2 but there is a lot of price difference between the LG and the S2 (LG €292, Samsung €443). So the Samsung costs around 50% more and I'm not sure if that's worth it.

Yeah it seems that the HD2 is getting a lot of updates on a regular base so it will most likely be more up to date then the LG. I think a dualcore is pretty nice especially for the future 'long term' there will be a lot more apps etc. that can use the dual core.
But the HD2 is still pretty interesting with it's larger screen and a lot of software available.
Get the LG.... I myself going wait for the Samsung Galaxy Note

Any more opinions? I'm not really sure to go for a dual core 4.0" mobile or for a 4.3" single-core mobile that can run on android/windows mobile/windows phone/etc.
I prefer android.
If you want to use andriod, why do you try to buy htc incredible s or sensation
HTC HD2 and you will not be wrong

What do you think of this?

Hello guys, I'm buying a new phone for under £150 and I found this, It's an Orange branded phone but they will be an unlocking and de-branding method out soon, there always is, but here are the specs- what do you think?
TFT, 800 x 480 pixels WVGA resolution, 262K colors, 3.5 inch touchscreen
5MP Camera with autofocus and flash (and a 0.3 MP front camera- not 100% positive but it says video calling on specs along with something that looks very much like a front camera)
ARM11 800MHZ processor
Running on Android Gingerbread 2.3
512 MB internal memory (according to Orange- most of that will be filled with useless Orange-related junk)
3G and WIFI (Obviously, pretty standard nowadays)
All of this for only £99 + £10 top up on Pay As You Go.
You could easily replace the original Orange themed launcher to ADW and make it look like a normal, and custom rom's will be arriving very soon.
What are your views? I'm not too good when it comes to phone specs but they look good value for money. I have question though- will this support multi-touch?
I'm personally thinking of picking this up to replace my Galaxy 5.
i had the same query!!
but inverted
so lets talk for htc hd2 : i am thinking of bying a no name phone with the same phone specs as the hd2.
the Question is : may i this noname phone to make it work as the HD2 phone?
If money is a problem, get the cheaper phone- same specs but cheaper? You may as well, but if you care about having a big company name on your device then obviously just settle with the HTC, also make sure you read up a lot about the no-name phone just incase it has bad reviews.
Anyone got any comments/views regarding my questions?
Anybody have any views please?
Its the ZTE-Blade II the specs aren't much different than original model, I owned original and for the price there ok "very cheap made devices" soon after picked up HTC DHD as it was sluggish can't imagine the II being much different.....
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
great phone!
where can i finh it?
My friend does have the ZTE blade, the first one. it was sluggish while he was running froyo but speedy with gingerbread, even thus it has a 600mhz processor.
With a 800mhz ARM11 for that price I would give it a go.
Thanks, can you verify that it has a front camera?
And you can buy it from any Orange store or there website, you get free headphones worth £60 along with other freebies as part of the Christmas box.

Is this the phone that you are talking about?
http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/san-francisco-II-from-orange-in-black
If not, Could you provide a link?
Otherwise the specs are a little different from what you wrote, the cpu is not ARM 11, its ARMv 6, but it does have front facing camera:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3224&c=orange_san_francisco_ii_zte_crescent
Yes thats the phone, I read on a website it had am Arm11- knew that was too good to be true.
Do you think this phone is worth a purchase to replace my Galaxy5? I want a larger phone at a low price so it seems a good upgrade as it has better camera, a front camera, it's on gingerbread and a better processor, thank you.
Sent from my GT-I5500 using XDA App
Also would you recommend this phone or the Samsung Galaxy Ace? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I5500 using XDA App
Well, to be honest I would't buy a phone with an ARMv 6, but its obviously my opinion depends what do you need it for.
Yes, it does have larger screen than your Galaxy 5 and it's cheap.
But.....have you tried to look for some better USED phones like HTC Desire and so on?
You can find something for 150 Pounds/Euro and so on:
http://uk.webuy.com/phones/search_results.php?manuId=9&stext=desire
EDIT: Galaxy Ace seems a good phone to me, more or less the same as the ZTE:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_ace_s5830-3724.php
I don't want to buy second hand, is the ZTE worth a purchase? Or should I pay an extra £35 and buy the Galaxy Ace?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I5500 using XDA App
Again, depends what you will do with it.
If I really have to go for one of those two, I would choose the ZTE it has higher resolution 480x800 (320 x 480 ACE), and much more ram 512 (against 280 of ACE) which at the end of the day its VERY important.
Thanks for your help, It is much appreciated, I'm going to get the ZTE, it's cheaper and has better resolution, ram and a front camera.
Thanks a lot, have a nice day!

Newbie, Thinking of buying a Desire S

Hi, Im thinking of getting a Desire S as my next phone. Im not exactly new to this as i had a regular Desire for about 18 months which i rooted, s-off and installed many customs roms.
I was looking for a upgrade and bought a Sensation a few weeks ago but its not for me as i find the phone abit too big. Even though its really fast, I dont find it comfortable to use.
The only phones that i can see that are similar size to the original desire is LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix or Desire S. But as I want Sense, the Desire S is only the option. Even though it is not dual core, it should be much quicker than a Desire as;
- Has 50% more RAM. 768MB compared to 512- 1GB internal memory so no need for A2SD which should make things faster- Processor, even though its a 1GHZ i believe it can be overclocked to over 1.8GHZ and at a safe 1.4GHZ. Is this correct?
In terms of ROMS, the Desire S has got a large collection.
Anything else that i have missed out or need to know?
Thanks
Hi, please tell me where did you find it ?
This configuration is awesome.
From what you've written there, you already know the answer as to which phone you should be getting. If you are lookin for something th same size as the Desire S then there is no real competition as faras I'm concerned - not just for design and specifications, but also for ROMs, development and user forum support on XDA
As the Nike adverts say "Just Do It!!"
Thanks guys, am I correct regarding the overclock statement I've made?
Hi.
If You are not bothered with not having the latest tech, then I would say Desire S is a good choice.
So far android experience is great on it, haven't found any real reason to go with multi core just yet.
Things You'll like - alloy unibody, size, battery life (depending on rom and useage), overall speed, quite decent main camera + front cam (skype works very well), price (I wouldn't sign for a long contract on it though).
Cons - well... battery life (still, ain't bad but more energy efficient devices are going to be in sale soon)
Good luck.
You are correct with all statements
The Desire S also has better battery life than the original, thanks to its larger capacity, and the more optimized 2nd gen CPU (which is very good for OC'ing)
I have my ds for 6 months now, and im very happy with iti had the same problem like you (the sensation was to big)
I had the choice between samsung galaxy s and desire s, and i have choosen the ds because of sense too
Gesendet von meinem HTC Desire S mit Tapatalk
Decision made, desire s it is. Just need to put my sensation on eBay now.
Also noticed that sensation xl has the same CPU as the desire s which is clocked to 1.5ghz.
I think there is a thread on here somewhere about the CPU being the same as the one in the Sensation, and i think that though it is the same model number the one in the Sensation it is a later generation model so it is designed differantly and runs at a higher speed.
The only other thing i would say is perhaps wait a month or so and see what new models HTC announce. it could be that the Desire S gets upgraded similar to the move from Desire to Desire S.
Edit heres link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459911
There is a HTC primo coming out in a few months but that only has 512mb RAM.

Yup, you missed something huge. THE MWC IS COMING IN LESS THAN A MONTH !!!!!! The Desire S was revealed at MWC last year. Surely, something waaaaaay better will show up this year. I LOVE my desire s, but i won't reccomend you to buy it at this time.
The Galaxy S Advance has been announced, it's roughly the same size as the Desire S (4.0 inch screen), similar price but has much better hardware (Dual core 1 Ghz CPU, Super Amoled Screen). HTC must compete with this, so somthing big (with sense ) will come at MWC. TRUST ME. Even if you don't like what comes, you can buy the Desire S later, it's not like HTC is gonna stop supplies

Sadly, as much as I love my Desire S too, I can only agree with Shrome.
Unless you aren't too bothered about having the latest and greatest, and aren't a tech-head, this phone is recommended and will serve you well for basic smartphone tasks.

I'm sure the Desire S will serve for a lot more than just basic tasks. I know synthetic benchmarks are not a lot to go by, but considering the stock Galaxy Nexus gets 32 fps in Nenamark 2 and my Desire S gets 27 fps (without any overclock), it's somewhat reassuring and makes me believe the Desire S still has a bit of kick remaining.

Also, i presume the phone will be launched towards summer time and have a price of £300? Whereas the Desire S is available on ebay now for roughly half that price.

Although the leaked specs say 512mb, I highly doubt the device would come like that.
HTC wouldn't downgrade the succesor.
Leaked specs aren't always true you know
The HD2 original leak said it has 384mb RAM. But it ended up having 448mb (576mb actually, if you unlock the hidden RAM)
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
You can't be sure of any of those things( except the price, maybe). The leaks are HIGHLY unreliable. I'm 99% sure it won't have lower RAM than the Desire S if it's a successor. For all you know, it may be a succesor to Wildfire S, cost waaaay less, and the Desire S may have a different succesor entirely
Hmmm, not sure now.
When will the official release be of these phones? And when they become available, are we talking weeks/months?

325i Please see my response to your other thread about coming from the old Desire. I just edited it. Noticed a worrying trend on the recent Amazon reviews.
Regarding new phones releases, it depends. If the manufacturers have any sense, they'll have the product ready to swing into the shops riding on the hype-wave from MWC. Others may want to hang back and see how their product is received before committing to getting x amount of them made.
For the first time I'm not 100% about sticking with HTC for my next phone. I just don't trust their reliability and after sales support so much any more. I buy my phones outright SIM-free and unlocked so I can't really afford to make a bad decision.
Problem is looking around at alternatives I don't yet see anything tempting, baring in mind I don't like whopping screens and not too fussed about multi-core devices. I mean if the Xperia Arc S was slightly smaller and had a front-facing camera I'd probably already be saving up for it.
The Sony (minus the Ericsson) Xperia S is just far far far too big. OK 12MP camera but I bet it still blurs if taking a moving shot. Plus is it me, or have the designers copped out? A formless, plain rectangle of a phone like SGS2. Doesn't look comfortable at all to hold, and doesn't hold a candle to the Desire S in terms of looks.
Only thing I'm certain of is I wont be selling my DS. I'll keep it around so I can stay in this section of XDA and carry on with testing and support.
yeah the desire s overclocks very well indeed.mine will run at 1.5ghz stable. its definatly a much more capable phone than the original desire and as you say there arnt many other phones that match the form you are looking for.
we also have the best section on xda with a huge selection of roms.cant go wrong really.BUY ONE!
Think ill go for the Desire S.
I also buy my phones sim free, usually slightly used ones off ebay. Ive decided to get a Desire S, if i newer/better HTC comes out, i can always put the Desire S back on ebay.

Confusion to buy

Hey guys i am new here so sorry if i am posting in wrong section..i wanted a lil bit advice on buying a new phone
i was first about to buy Dell venue pro...read its reviews stating poor battery life...i really loved this phone but cancelled it from my list
Now my current choices are HTC Evo 3d ,HTC Sensation XL , HTC Titan
Samsung Galaxy S3 Is OPTIONAL
Now heres what i've collected research
HTC EVO 3D :- Pros-Blazing fast ,Rugged,Dedicated camera key,3D videos and pics
Cons-3D Sometimes gives headache,bulky
some more info i got on this phone is LG Optimus 3d is better than this in terms of 3d...but i am a brand loyal guy.
Additional questions : I know that its glasses free 3D but if i use glasses will it give me more immersive experience ?
HTC Sensation XL :- Pros- GIGANTIC 4.7 inch display,Sexy looking beast
Cons-No microsd slot only internal memory, 8mp camera is decent
some more info i got is XL in some cases out performs XE which is dual core
HTC Titan :- Pros-Massive but beautiful 4.7 inch display ,butter smooth than android
Cons- no micro sd slot,Windows phone, no bluetooth
Now let me tell you that i am a very rough user of mobile ..no i dont wrestle with mobiles...but my usage is very harsh
like when i arrive at home i throw my mobile 6 meters far at 4 feet height..so i want my mobile to be durable
I dont get hyped by RAM ,Speed,Apps...seriously i am not gonna die if my app loads 3-10 seconds late than other mobile
speed is not an issue and so is lag...like the pinch to zoom lag and all...I am all about 60% showoff and 40% mobile use
i.e 60% mobile should be sexy looking cosmetic beast and 40% overall mobile features
i am favouring towards sensation xl because of its huge display...but the "Beats" thing is gimmicky ..but its sexy looking
Evo 3d is Nearly indestructible with 3d features
and last but not the least i consider titan as "The larger HD2" with windows phone
BTW S3 is option because its cheaply built...
PS :- before anyone giving me advice on other phones pls read below
I am not an apple fanboy..the best use of iphone is to show other people that you can afford an iphone , so no iphone
Galaxy S2 is ugly
Lumia 800 and 900 are beast but they're on windows
thanks in advance and sorry for sucha long post
Look at the s3. It seems to have everything you are wanting (based off your pros and cons of the other devices). It's really fast, has a micro sd slot, 8mega pixel camera, quad core (the international version), it's not super rigged, but there's no real reason to throw your phone (and just get a good case). Ih, and it has a great xda community.

Agree its one of the best devices yet...but you know i feels way to plasticy ...nd also i've got a dog who sees mobile phones as bones..still thanx for suggestion...what about other phones mentioned
Altough you have not mentioned this, I suggest you take a look at the HTC One X. It has nice styling, something you said is more important than pure performance. It's performance will also leave you satisfied as it's among the best android smartphones out there. Sure, it has no MicroSD slot, but nothing OTG can't solve.
In my opinion, you should check that out too before you make a decision. :good:
Honestly my opinion is there is no new phone that is durable, but there are really good heavy duty covers. So don't look for a strong phone they're all the same.
Although my HTC desire HD was good with the metal housing.

samsung galaxy
Samsung Galaxy s3 is the best choice
I'd suggest the galaxy nexus ! I bought one a few weeks ago and I'm loving it ! I understand newer phones have better hardware, but what for ? my nexus is hella smooth nonetheless, and cheaper !!!
You're considering the titan but

In either case, I will recommend something. Don't get a WP until WP8 comes out. Otherwise you're just buying into a dead end that not even xda can likely fix.
For durability, and if you're on AT&T, try the Samsung Rugby Smart. Or even better, try not to throw your phones. :silly:
If you gonna throw your phone, phones like Motorola Razr, Xperia Go are the ones for you...

^ That made me laugh. But I agree. The Razr and Xperia are rugged phones IMO. I currently have the Samsung S3 and I'm worried the slightest accident will 'break a nail'. But, it's a great phone otherwise.

Evo 3D is honestly such a sexy phone. That could be one of your options

samsung galaxy 3 all the way
Samsung or bust!
samsung galaxy s3 is the newest and the best one
I would suggest you One S. Its aluminium body is beautiful, screen is somewhat good (not sure about PenTile), and camera is great. Snapdragon S4 is as fast as Tegra 3, and it's cheaper.
Galaxy nexus no SD card but its durable and it has jellybean I switched from the s2/s3 to nexus and couldn't be happier Google now is awesome
