hello! i want to replace my desire hd with another phone.
i am stuck between two models. which should i buyand why?
i know that optimus 2x is more powerfull but, i've seend that nexus s is much faster.
i'm not entirely sure that my opinion is based on anything other than love for my nexus, but yes: NEXUSSSSSSSs
The Nexus S looks faster because it has a way more powerful GPU which directly translates into smoother transitions.
G2x dual core A9 CPU. POS GPU.
Nexus S? Single core A8 CPU. Amazing SGX540 GPU.
In reality? They probably perform the same however stock Android gives the Nexus S the edge, that is until dual cores are "properly supported" in Android (if that even ends up helping, really).
Not to mention Gingerbread was coded for the Nexus S with optimizations for the Hummingbird chipset in mind. And did I ever mention OTA's straight from Google? And Super AMOLED...
Nexus! Only because its a N family member and there will be ton of development for it.
I would get G2X just because it has a dual core so it's more future proof compared to the Nexus even though it will get updates, it's a single core. Also the G2X is stock Froyo also and is receiving the GB update very soon. Also CM has added G2X to their supported list I believe.
2x is a failure, there will be another model out from LG which means it's not going to be supported anymore once new one comes out.
Nexus S is one of the Nexus family so you will get constant updates til you get a new phone.
BTW: what about Atrix?

I don't know about the new LG phone but I heard the atrix is a pos. The LG would probably be better than the Atrix.

isn't the lg 2x built with tegra2 from nvidia?
is tegra2 worse than sgx540?
nexus s, yeaaaay my dream phone
Disire HD is COOL i use hd2 its als realy nice phone you can play arround with multiple option
i think if you have 3 for 1...you just buy an atrix
media center on tv and phone
linux on tv
and android gingerbread on the future
tegra 2 and 1gb amout of ram =) more than other device.....
Just get the Optimus 2X. It's dual core, and it supports games designed especially for Nvidia Tegra 2 phones.
I have had both the Optimus 2x and the Nexus S and I would say go with the Nexus S, the design is better, its faster as it runs Android 2.3.3 on the other hand the LG is running FroYo and it's an SLCD screen and uses ALOT of battery life.
The battery life on the Nexus S is better and would use less battery with the screen as it is AMOLED.
Without a doubt, choose the Nexus S, you would only be dissapointed with the LG Optimus 2x, I traded mine in for a Galaxy S II and it was the best decision I ever made as far as smartphones go.

desire hd is good enough not to swap it with a nexus s.
but when it comes to lg optimus 2x or any other dual core , go for the dual core phones.
nexus s is easy to take care of.
go for nexus s,it has lot of development support
Optimus 2x - HDMI out, miss that feature in my current epic4g
// this message is nonsense 8/8. Hopefully now I can get "search in thread".
I vote for the Optimus (sorry but me as well is just posting for getting to 10 posts)
I love my n1, but the nS is a cheap piece of plastic crap. I really dislike most of Samsung's lineup in fact. Get the g2x and root it. That way u can have dual core and Gingerbread.
not even 720p vs. 1080p video recording
1 GHz vs 1 (dual) GHz
Gingerbread vs Froyo
non removable storage (and only 1 GB for apps) vs. removable storage
Super AMOLED vs Super LCD (I prefer LCD). AMOLED screens aren't exactly the best with whites at all, in fact, they kind of suck with whites (unless it is Super AMOLED Plus, but that is clearly not on the Nexus S).
7.2 mpbs vs. 21 mpbs
Gimmick glass vs. Gorilla glass
HDMI output on the G2x.
I would wait for the HTC Sensation seeing that it actually has decent specs and I kind of want it.
But if you are impatient... Go for the G2x just because it has specs that aren't last gen.

hi guys,
i'm new to the forum. this weekend I'm gonna buy my first android phone. not sure whether to buy nexus s or lg 2x. hope u guys can tell the pros and cons of this two phone.
cheers!
Edit:
From my understanding,
Nexus s,
-great super amoled
-will get latest update
-more optimized
-certain phone have problem with capacitive touch screen
Lg 2x,
-greater cpu n gpu
-better camera
-dual core is not being fully optimized with current os version
-problem with random reboot
I am also thinking of replacing my Nexus S for LG Optimus 2X but I dont know should I do it. Big dillema...

The Nexus S has a better GPU but a worse GPU.
Also the Camera isn't necessarily better on the O2x, megapixels doesn't matter too much.
The Nexus S does not have a touchscreen problem.
And finally: Yes, the dualcores aren't being used very much (yet).
As for a real answer: None of them, Galaxy S II.
It doesn't cost much more than the O2x, but is miles better.
What touchscreen issue is the op referring to?

OP you're asking about the lg optmius 2x ... the LG-P990 that means you're are probably going to be on bands that the international galaxy S supports
i say SGS2
I'm referring the back capacitive button
Look up for reviews on battery life of LG Optimus 2x, dont know how the dual core handles battery life.
But, i have been looking up on SGS2 forums over here @ xda, and it seems most people are not happy with their purchase due to battery life issues.
PS: I bet you wouldnt want a phone that dont last long right?
EDIT: FYI, do read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088098
most ppl get a nexus because its a nexus. everyone knew when the nexus s came out that is was no revolutionary piece of hardware. but they wanted the direct updates and support from google.

Really? if i was paying $800 to buy it here in the states (that samsung USA probably wouldn't provide support for), it better not have any issues!
Hey OP
I actually had a G2x for 29 days. Actually I had 2 of them. On day 29 I sent it back for a refund and got the Nexus S. I haven't looked back.
I was plagued with random reboots and freezes. It was really annoying. Also, the G2x was unusually "tall" and heavy with large spaces between the touch buttons at the bottom. It felt like a quality device, but it didn't feel as comfortable as the Nexus S.
With the Nexus S, you are guaranteed updates for a long time into the future. With the G2x, you are stuck with Froyo out of the box, and a few custom ROMs are emerging. None of the custom ROMs are fully stable and bug-free yet. Heck, even the stock ROM isn't stable and bug-free. Furthermore, the stock ROM isn't Vanilla Froyo, which really annoyed me. LG made quite a few subtle changes to the UI that I did not appreciate, and much preferred the true stock Nexus experience.
The G2x was snappier then the Nexus S, but the overall experience was not as fulfilling to me.
Yeap agree with that.
Support from Google is onebof the main selling point!

I'm a sucker for technology. Right when the g2x was released, I had to replace it with the nexus s. I had the g2x for 2 weeks and went back to my nexus S. The g2x had too many problems and the annoying screen bleed!! I would watch videos at night and I'd always stare at it and try to rub the area just to see if i could fix it. Anyways, the nexus S is alot faster then stock g2x. I'm sure the g2x can get faster after some modding, but when I was using it only got a quadrant score of 2400 while the nexus right now gets 3300 with c7 and netarchy. The nexus s also has a better form factor as well as samoled screen. The g2x had horrible speakers. Everytime old I'd go into speaker mode, the other person would hear echoing. Also my g2x had a hard time getting a GPS lock while the Nexis s gets it in 5 seconds. I think ill pass on the g2x since it didn't exceed any of my expectations.
One thing I liked about the g2x was the way it looked and felt. I don't really like the plastic feeling of the nexus s.
for playing games, LG is better
for roms, ehhh...

The 2x is for Europe (supports different frequencies), and runs LG's custom skin on top of the OS.
The G2x is for T-Mobile USA, and they removed the skin.
Both appear plagued with similar problems, the 2x appears to be getting/have gotten? an OTA to address some issues, but I don't know where that stands.
i was also thinking about getting the g2x but im going to keep my nexus s as it might get supported more than the g2x
I have replaced my Nexus with O2X and havent regreted. Everything is so fast and snappy. Not to mention fantastic Tegra 2 games connected thru HDMI to plasma.

HTC HD2 vs Lg Optimus 2x
Both have their benefits and negative sides.
The HTC HD2 has a larger screen but a slower processor and it's an older mobile. The LG has a smaller screen but has a dual core processor, a better camera and already running on android.
I will be flashing the HD2 to android but I'm not sure which phone to get anyways

Yeah I've looked at the Galaxy S2 but there is a lot of price difference between the LG and the S2 (LG €292, Samsung €443). So the Samsung costs around 50% more and I'm not sure if that's worth it.

Yeah it seems that the HD2 is getting a lot of updates on a regular base so it will most likely be more up to date then the LG. I think a dualcore is pretty nice especially for the future 'long term' there will be a lot more apps etc. that can use the dual core.
But the HD2 is still pretty interesting with it's larger screen and a lot of software available.
Get the LG.... I myself going wait for the Samsung Galaxy Note

maybe if the next month or year 3d phone with monster spec come out, I definitely bought it.

It'll be out with GB before our phone gets it. I think you'd have to be crazy to buy it though. I have been sorely burned by LG this time. The fact that it's releasing with GB instead of ICS is just a repeat of how our phones launched with Froyo instead of GB.
3D max is basically same as evo 3D ..

I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?zsfi3p
If LG swaps it free with my O3D then only I will get it otherwise never LG phone.
I'd rather trade my O3D and pick up Galaxy SIII.
it was my first and last LG phone, bought it cause my x10 died lol, but no won't buy it, so few more months and will get an xperia S, which has better specs (except for the sd card slot) and can take 3d panorama pics, so I'm in
Not buying one until I see what other 3D phones are announced this year, at worst I will get one after it gets updated to ICS.
I'm definitely "tech-savvy who loves 3D"...and the 3D Game Converter from LG is a must-have IMO, I hope a competitor can offer something superior though

LG has some of the best hardware but is by far the worst when it comes to the software of their phones.
O3D is their flagship phone at the moment but its performance is not quite as convincing as other dual-cores, mainly due to the bad software implementation. Not to mention, the fiasco with the ghost calls issue which is a huge embarrassment for a company the size of LG.
But even if LG had the best software in the world, it wouldn't be any reason to get the new O3D Max which has almost the same specifications like the old O3D. They could have at least increased the screen resolution in order to see less pixelated picture in 3D mode.
I used to complain about SE x10 software it was laggy but they mature after a while and now it's cool, i'll get the xperia s,
indeed o3d has an incredible awful software, sometimes wifi crashes and the phone overheats, ram usage is high, sometimes i have like 70mb free
maybe lg will do a better job next time
I'll buy the updated model. Yes.
The only other serious 3D contender to date has been the HTC Evo 3D and having tried both I think the LG phone is the better 3D phone. The display is better at displaying 3D stills and video. The updated Gingerbread camera(s) are good.
A faster model with more RAM would be awesome. I'm looking forward to it.
2D-only phones are dead to me.

No, the best phone out there would be right now the galaxy s2, this is why:
-Exynos 1.2 gHz processor: much better than qualcomm no matter what (surpassed maybe by the S4 or the Tegra 3 but not yet released)
-Better 8 mp camera: The sensors used by this camera are excellent (maybe only surpassed by the iPhone 4S sensors).
-Mali 400 GPU: One of the best gpu existing today in the market only found in a couple of phones (again maybe only surpassed by the nonreleased chip of the MWC)
-Super Lightweight: One of the lightest phone that some may say it feels cheap but dont
-Super Thin: One of the thinnest phone today only surpassed by the RAZR and other unknown phones.
-Super Amoled Plus screen: Wonderful screen with surprising colors that amaze everyone and with its plus technology it makes a more resolution effect although its only 800x480
this would be some of the reasons of why to choose it
here are my two cents hope it helps, thank if i helped

I have to agree here. While I do agree the SII is better (yeah I'm a GNex owner and my butt is a bit hurt from it) I don't see the margin of difference terribly large. The GNex is still an outstanding phone.
how much is "soon"?
If I was in your shoes, I would prob wait for Samsung galaxy S3.
I agree the international version of S2 is the best, the galaxy nexus does have a excellent screen, one of the best noise cancellation to be found on a phone. Top 3 android phones until Tegra 3 hits is Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx.
Wait for GalaxyS3
I have a galaxy s and its amazing. I cant wait for the galaxy 3
Sony Xperia S, it's got a 12mp camera. The best in Android
This is 3vo CDMA (sprint) not GSM (tmo, att, or a carrier that gives a sim card)
EVO 3D. Even though 3D code is only for sense 3.0, the 3vo has quite possibly the best selection of rooms I have ever seen. So far we have:
1. AOSP
2. CM7
3. Sense 3.0
4. Sense 3.5
5. Sense 3.6 (work in progress, or wip)
6. Sense 4.0 (wip)
7. Evo view 4g sense (tablet rom on 3vo)
8. ICS 4.0.3 (only issue is camera)
9. CM9 (same as ics)
And maybe more.!
Not to mention our various tweaks, amazing quadrant scores, dual core processor, 1.5 gHz STABLE over clock with good battery life still (we can go up to 1.8 but its unstable and can pretty much destroy your phone), dedicated developers, qHD screen, and soooooo much more. You should check us out
Plus, with the recent hboot downgrade ability, our phone is now "unofficially unbrickable" which means I can do ANYTHING to it and I can restore it. This phone, even with a select number of issues, is by far the strongest competitor in specs, deving, performance, etc.

Just a couple points. The galaxy nexus doesn't use a Qualcomm processor. It uses a TI OMAP. If the Exynos is better, it isn't by much.
The GPU is a PowerVR which is probably weaker than the Mali but still decent. It runs Grand Theft Auto III really well, which is the most demanding thing I'd ever do on a phone GPU wise.
The screen on the Nexus is also AMOLED but full 720p (1280×720) instead of the 800X480 on the S2. It is pentile but the resoultion is so much higher it more than makes up for it. This is clearly a winner for the Nexus IMO.
Also the real pros in buying a Nexus:
Faster official updates and completely stock ICS (no touchwiz, sense, motoblur, etc)
Xperia nominated?

HTC for sure. I believe them to be second best to Samsung phones at this point. All you have to do is look at user reviews.

I would definitely go with a dual core and I would agree that HTC is better than LG. If your going to play any graphic intensive games you definitely need a dual core processor with at least 1G of RAM. A quad core processor is the way to go if your outside the U.S.

Search xda dev thread for each of your choice, and choose one which has most development that will make it life longer.

i have tried to search for the best option . like the HTC HD2 which developers just can't get enough of it.
but the phone is old, Galaxy s 1 is way too expansive for a 2 years old phone, and the HTC is a general expensive device.
So i could find only the LG Nitro which is a good phone for its $ .. $470 for a 4.5" HD with dual core cpu and 10mm thick, can't find any thing better..
HTC are mostly fat devices and i can't see any reason why but the thin cost as double as $550 .. and onlt 480-800 res. while the LG is
around 1280x720 res.
see my problem?
Besides it all the phones run Android so there is not problem modding it , and the Nitro have Cyanogen 9.0 support so it should be solid for a while.

Hello,
I want to upgrade my phone to high end android (have been using windows mobile 6.5.3 and android 2.3.7 )
so i have looked over some thing like 20 phones and i could not pick one that will i will be able to like my own child .
The problem is mainly since all the phones have the same price, ie,. the htc desire HD have 4,3" display and 1 ghz cpu while the LG optimus 2x have the same 3.4" display but with dual core cpu and over eBay the price is the same for me, so what to choose HTC or a little cheaper LG ?
And that effects all phone so if you pls can you suggest me some phones and a reason why you have suggested them over other phones.
I prefer bid displays over 4.0" and thin around ~10mm
I am asking since i will buy a phone which will stay with me over several years before i will choose to replace it,
(got stack with Moto Defy with 3 year contract - and its bad .. very bad... )
thank you for any help.

Have you heard about mi-two? Google for it to find more information. Generally it looks awesome with 4 cores clocked at 1,5GHz, Adreno320 GPU, 4,3" IPS display with ~340dpi (30% more the iPhone4S) and great battery capacity. The only problem is that it might not be easily available outside China. But if I will be able to get one I will do it without thinking much about it.
The Optimus 2x is a 4 inch 800x480 screen, not 4.3
Anyway, due to ****ty support from LG, prices for it have absolutely tanked.. It's now available from $200-300 outright.
The good news? ICS is coming out very soon for it (rumored). Apparently it's in the testing stage.
So might be a very cheap way for you to get a fairly high end dual core for stuff all money.

Xiaomi mi-two $550 preorder now on eBay. it will be cheaper for me to GS III OR HTC ONE X i just don't like these devices - gs iii due to plastic and htc one x due to 16 giga with out micro sd card memory while i use around 40 giga on a phone.
any way i just thought you could suggest me a device and a reason why it is better then LG and so far i see that they are non, i never saw a company which give any support for a phone... so i am not looking for support .
Any way thank you all i have decided to buy the LG device the Nitro - looks great and cheaper then most devices. btw LG is also manufacturing Apple and Samsung mobile parts so i can't see why it should be worth quality.
Buy HTC One X. It is a really cool phone !!!
