Just recently, my gf's mt4gs stopped working whenever you try to open the app. The only thing that happens after opening the camera app is the black screen. The only thing we can do is go back to the home screen.
Just recently restored from the very first backup through cwm. Still no go. I'm now assuming it is a hardware problem and her phones warranty just ended last month...
Any help would be great.
Thank you

I'm having that issue myself. Tried unrooting and rerooting but I still have that error. Kornyone said it might have something to do with the camera itself.

Its pretty s#itty that this phone was so-called T-Mobile's best camera phone when it was released. What's happens after a year?...the camera dies. I've done hard resets, revert back to factory-fresh out of the box, and even used the first nandroid backup of this phone. My gf is still paying in installments for the phone every month and she is worried that she has to pay the rest of the amount in order to get another phone. She didn't apply for the product insurance and I'm for sure the factory warranty is over. I have removed root and I'm trying to revert the bootloader/recovery back to stock to return it to the store.

There are issues with any hardware you buy. My MT4GS has been very reliable over the past 1 year-2 months that I've had it. I've lived in China for part of that time, using a China Unicom SIM, taking hundreds of really great pics and videos, installed numerous ROMs (but always going back to a stock-based ROM for reliability/stability). It has been a great phone for me. I have bought an after-market battery from a shop in Shanghai, cost about $6US and it lasts me more than a day (1900mAh). Can't beat that.
Two friends with iPhone 4S have had cracked backs just from having them in their pockets. One just got a new iPhone 5, after 2 days he had to have it replaced because the button broke. It's just a fact of life in modern hardware.
I have insurance on my phones... and all u need to do is send it in to asurion and get a replacement... my cousin had the original mytouch 4g and he got a htc one x as a replacment... also the phone was rooted and had a custom rom on it when we sent it back.

True. My gf upgraded to the GS3 and after purchasing the phone, they told her she had insurance when she signed up a year ago. She was kinda bummed that she spent a lot to get the GS3, but she is enjoying the phone...she didn't even let me try it yet...lol. Its alright, I have my Nexus 7 and GS2, rooted and rom'd.

Out of the many threads and forums I have read it seems as though many people are scared to root, and that is understandable because of warranty issues and whatnot...but I'm just curious how long did you guys have your phone before you decided to root?
For me, I enjoyed stock on the day I purchased the phone but rooted the next day because I figured I had solved hundreds of problems with computers and phones and tech...so how hard could it be to take care of rooted android?

15 minutes at the most
Before I got out of the at&t store parking lot.
I waited a whole week but that was because this is my first android device, so I had to read & read & be sure I was confident enough to do it.
Right when I got home. Had bubbys already downloaded before I had the phone lol

Two weeks for me. My first android phone, so I read lots of threads here and didn't find any cases of total irreversible bricking, so I went for it. Had an anxious moment or two, but it went very well, and now I've tried several ROMs. Sticking with MIUI for now, although I keep looking at other ROM announcements...
As quickly as I could after removing it from the box.
1week and 3days.
Had to wait 3 hours because I had to fix some issues with mobile data not working right at first.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I waited about 3 days. Got a feel of stock sense and even side loading with the Sideload Wonder Machine. I still couldn't live without Cyanogen Mod, governing my CPU, and theming my whole device.
Oh the freedom...
I made it a few hours, then I was sick of stock.....
I rooted today, and I bought the phone the week it came out. I wasn't in any rush, since I didn't want to do a bunch of troubleshooting. The rooting tools are really great and are totally stable, so I went for it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I waited about a week only because I wanted to make sure there were no factory defects. Didn't want to go through the hassle of returning to stock.

I downloaded three ROM's and the hack kit when my phone shipped from Ft. Worth. When it showed up I guess it took a couple hours to root it because I just plugged it up until the light turned green and proceeded to root. It never actually booted into stock. I had enough of a nightmare with a stock Wizard back in the day.
I'm glad HTC decided to dissolve the locked bootloader policy because my SOP regarding all new HTC devices is to not buy them until they're well-supported here. HTC support is useless except for free battery cover, sim cover, and battery while in warranty and hardware exchange. They've outright lied to me a handful of times.
Took me about two weeks, as this was my first htc and manual adb root. I gotta say doing it the long way and doing the research was way better in my opinion than the one clicks and z4root that I used on my captivate. I think if more people did it the manual way we would have less conflicts with the different manufactures and in turn less locked bootloaders, because people would be more educated and less likely to mess up their devices.

I started downloading the things I needed to root BEFORE I even had the phone. As soon as I brought it home, it was time to root it!

So a couple of days ago I got the OTA Gingerbread update. After the update my phone has had some problems. When I text, the buttons stop vibrating sometimes. And also some of my contacts on the messaging app just show up as phone numbers. So please tell me what may be happening.
Can't offer any explanations but keep in mind, ota updates can be problematic because its insalling on top of what's currently installed, as opposed to wiping and doing a clean install.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I would suggest taking the phone in or possibly better off calling tech support and have them re push the update and go from there...or just root it and flash a custom ROM and enjoy the phone how it should've been.

The only problem to rooting my phone is that I might want to trade it in for another Inspire, because the screen is starting to pop out of the phone in the bottom left corner. I just don't want my phone to void the warrenty, and make it so I can't return it.

I've returned 2 phone because of that, 1st one was within the original 30 days and 2nd one was after and I thankfully have a tech warranty center close by.
How ever on the second one, a refurb I don't have working GPS and the guy would not let me exchange it again and gave me a number for HTC to call and get it exchanged that way, why I'm not sure but it may have been my fault any way. Lol

So I was one of those that got the nexus s when it first released. Ordered it online from bestbuy.
At the very beginning, the back button was not sensitive enough. I thought that it was a software problem, but I did read somewhere on this forum that you can tighten the screw at the back of the phone. Now I am not sure if it is the tightening or software updates, enter it was problem free for almost a year.
In the last month, however I have started to notice that the back button has gone the other way, and that it is now either freezing or flashing randomly. I have tried many roms and also 2.35 2.36 and also 2.37 and the problem is always still there randomly.
My conclusion is that it is hardware, now I can have the whole screen and digitizer replaced or I can just sell the whole thing. The biggest problem is that Samsung Hong Kong where I am does not want to help to replace, which means that I will have to do it myself. I have never done it before and think that I might fudge it up. Should I just sell it or try the replacement myself?

The main problem is that I am no longer in the states so no best buy for me. The repair shops here are all quite dodgy. I would not trust to keep my phone with them over night. They would strip it for parts. I really like this phone and I got lots of accessories that go with it, don't really want to sell it.

Well I accidentally flashed a GS3 rom on my skyrocket and I'm pretty sure its bricked. The phone stays black and doesn't appear to power on at all. I am unable to get into recovery or download mode to flash in odin. The flash was a clean install and I had formatted both my emmc and usb mounts.
My question is should I bother taking it in to att or will they know that I've had it rooted? Or should I just bite the bullet and send it in for a jtag and pay around $70?
If it won't power on it could be any number of things from AT&T's perspective. It's worth a shot to see what they say.

warranty it, just play stupid and say it wont turn on and you dont know why, and dont mention anything about flashing a rom
Definitely a hard brick. I'd take it to AT&T first, tell them you were in the middle of the firmware update (act dumb) and the phone just turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I've heard stories (see edit below) of AT&T-owned stores calling corporate for guidance as AT&T's update was implicated, then just pulling out a new phone and handing it over well after the 14/30 days are up. More likely, they'll refer you to Sammy to have it warrantied out. Nothing to lose by trying at least the AT&T store first, as a one-day turnaround and free replacement is a better deal than waiting for Sammy to do their thing and send you a refurb, or spending the money on JTAG.
Edit: Stories. That's it. Haven't seen it happen. Your mileage may vary.
Thanks everyone. I'll head to att tomorrow and give it a shot. Will report back with outcome.
Take it to att if its still under warranty and play dumb. If it won't turn on they won't know its rooted or other ROMs have been put on. I'm sending this from a phone that was replaced under the same circumstances you're in:thumbup:

Nice! Out of curiosity, what did you say? Turned off and won't turn back on? You can answer via PM if you think they might see or anything.
That's it. They tried to turn it on, called a tech guy, still couldn't get download mode and that was it. Just don't talk and use short answers to the questions. Take the sd card out, of course. They send a refurb'd phone, less the back and battery. You then send the old phone back in a prepaid envelope that comes with the re furb. Pretty painless

Exactly. I told them it froze up during the official update and wouldn't turn back on. Just played stupid. The funny thing is that I accidentally left my sd card in it and I know that I had a folder on there named "rom_flashing" lol. I got very nervous when they saw the sd card, swapped it in the new phone and booted it up. I told them I was in a hurry and took the phone then bounced out. :good:
