Sorry for the simple question, but I'm having trouble getting a simple answer.
What wireless charging does the S3 support? Do I have to buy the wireless charging kit that Samsung provides?
I just can't seem to find a simple answer whether the S3 supports the Qi standard or not.

There isn't but I believe you can do some modding to it to get it to work with the palm wireless charger? Idk, Google it or search on xda.

The Verizon galaxy s3 has two sets of contacts to support wireless charging, but the back cover that ships with the phone doesn't have the induction coil.
Verizon sells a back cover that does support wireless charging and uses one set of those contacts that are Verizon specific. I believe I read that this follows the qi standard and that people were buying charging pads from energizer.
Samsung will also eventually still their own wireless charging kit.

I use the LG charging pad from Verizon with my S3. You do have to get the Charging back though. And yes it uses the Qi standard.
Ah, so it does use Qi.

I'm not too keen on the wireless charging itself but I've seen something my charge do that made me say hmmm...
A few times as I've been driving with my Droid Charge at the helm as the GPS device in the Verizon/Samsung dock I have observed the following:
the screen will quickly say "Wireless charging (something turned on)" and then "Wireless charging turned off"
Needless to say I do not have any sort of inductive plate or anything of the sort...and this was done while plugged into the regular car 12v port.
Does the phone have built in capability of recognizing wireless charging? anyone know why it would have thought it was turned on while in the dock? If I'm not mistaken this happened while the phone was fully stock.
It knows through magnets in the dock. It can only really charge through the inductor batterybay cover you have to buy seprate

Verizon was running a deal of the week on inductive battery covers i dont remember how much but im thinking of getting one myself.

I e-mailed WPC and asked what Qi charger to use. I got this good answer
The current version of the Nexus 4 can be charged wirelessly with all Qi chargers, except the Nokia DT-900. We expect that this problem will be fixed soon. In the mean time we advise to use a different Qi charger. For example the ZENS charger:

I have read on these forums that the S3 wireless charging mod is not very effective, and yet, I viewed the hot-to video posted here and it does indeed seem to be ok. I have purchased a wireless charge setup off eBay for about $9 and and now after reading some comments, was worried about doing this mod.

Did not know this until today but the case comes with inbuilt wireless charging pad in the flip case cover official
does anyone know the best place in the uk with fast delivery to get the best pad or the pad that charges the fastest
i head Qi s5 charging pads are good but cant find fast source in the uk for fast delivery and cheap lol
also not sure this is possible without cable but are there pads that pic up data aswell so that if i put hte phone down to charge on the pad it will let me transfer data to the phone and back from my pc without even plugging anything into the phone as that would be totally awesomeness lol
Make sure you actually bought the one with the charging built in. I didn't think it was released yet. I bought the s view case and I thought it was the wireless charging one too until I got home and found otherwise. Yes it has pins in the battery cover, but these aren't for qi.
Edit: just checked the Samsung website and it says coming soon. So yours most likely doesn't have wireless charging.
