[Q] Chinese Retina Tablets Firmware - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I just ordered the Visture V4HD from Aliexpress and should receive it in a few days.
This will be my first tablet, and I have a very basic understanding of OS and firmware...
I've noticed that the specs of the Cube U9GT5, Chuwi v99 and Visture V4HD are exactly the same. Does this mean the firmware is compatible between them?
I basically gambled on which one to buy and ended up settling for the Visture. The only thing that I fear is that they might slack on the firmware updates.
Is using firmware from one of those other tablets possible in case the people from Visture stop updating the firmware altogether?
Thanks!
PS- I did a previous search on the matter but wasn't able to find the answer.

Is anyone modifying firmwares of these high-res chinese tabs to get more out of it.
Fact is: the producers did not do their very best to implement the latest tweaks etc to their "4.1.1". The most important problem so far is a memory leakage, freezes and an unusably laggyish HD-mode.
We could use some dev-pover on these tabs, They seem nicely built and not too weak if optimized.
Most advanced topic on another forum: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/394...do-n90fhdcube-u9gtvvisture-4hd-retina-tablet/

A new firmware for Hyundai Play X900 has been released yesterday, it works with the Cube U9GT5 and all compatible tablets.
I made a rooted version here:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...ted-firmware-from-hyundai-play-x900-20130109/
It's not really smooth yet, but it's better than all other firmwares I tested so far.

so is the CUBE the same as Chuwi V99?
looking to root / install custom bootloader if one exists :good:

[Q] Android ICS on Yarvik tab 360

Hi,
I would like to install Android ICS on my Yarvik tab 360. Unfortunately the Manufacturer is not planning on bringing an update to ICS I think. But I found an update from Point of view for its 7" and 10" tablet which, due to same hardware i guess, also works with the Yarvik tablets. The problem is that my tablet is an 8" one, so thats not gonna work, I actually tried it and the update succeeded, ICS even starts up, but the screen doesn't respond. My question is now, is it possible to unpack the update image from Point of view and adjust the resolution so it fits 8"? I have no idea so this might be a crazy(noob) question.
Sorry for the long story
Cheers

[Q] MID Tablet M9000/F900 (AllWinner A10??)

Greetings,
While I been a tech for 20years supporting the WinTel systems, I am a noob to Android and ROM programming. I needed to be portable, and being unemployed didn't leave many cost-options available. I picked up a China knockoff called the MID M9000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330779120701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649).
What I can confirm on it is that it does run a Cortex A8 (I guess that means it is a AllWinner A10??) running Android ICS 4.04. A look under About Tablet shows Model Number F900, Baseband Version 1.4rc3 Kernel 3.0.8 [email protected] #2 Fir Jul 27 10:27:12 CST 2012 Build Number 20120716-F900.I have some flakiness with the screen, the performance seems poor with alot of waits and do I want to kill the app. I have gone through with Android Assistance and Advanced Task Manager to kill off any background apps, loads, etc. Still no luck.
Funny thing someone dumped in my lap a cheapy Sylvania SYNET7WIC 7" Smartbook with Windows CE 7 this past week. I searched and found you could bootload MODROID (Android 2.2 mod) ROM and I get more responsiveness on that WM8650 CPU than I am getting from this Cortex A8. So I am hoping it is just a bad build, and like the SYNET7WIC be happily surprised with a Mod for my Cortex A8 to improve it as well.
I tried over at CM, but there seems to be no discussion about MID tablets. I found the Christian Troy AllWinner A10 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398) but as I am not a DEV, I can't post to that thread to ask for help. All feedback or assistance is welcome, especially pointing to the right ROM and other parts I should use (I believe I have the right instructions) on how to do my first reimage to Jelly Bean. Thanks!
This seems to be a F900 tab

I think this is a f900 generic chinese tab and a replica of this one http://temtop.en.alibaba.com/produc...13_1_5GHz_Cortex_A8_800_X_480_9_Inch_MID.html
I have the same tab and I was finding it hard to get a stable ROM to replace my factory ROM which had much more serious issues. I used this one on my tab and its been running much better now.
http://www.azhuo.net/en/products_F9...Capacitive_Android_4.0_Tablet_PC_Upgrade.html
Please note I still face issues with slowness and I need to reboot my tab everytime I play a resource intensive app/ game. I think its more to do with the hardware than with the firmware.

Recently purchased a similar tablet from http://www.agptek.com/New-Android-4.0-MID-7-inch-Capacitive-TouchScreen-Tablet-458-96-1.html. I flashed Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 for many AllWinner A10 tablets with the MOMO9 compatibility zip; as the MOMO9 specs are identical to my tablet. Running very smooth, alot faster and more stable than the original ICS 4.0.3.
Where did yuo download the rom flash from? How has it been working for you? Are you still running it on 4.0.3, or are you on 4.0.4 now? I just got a Mid M9000 and kinda regretting it now, but if I can flash it, to a better rom, that would be awesome.
Thanks

Howdy,
Actually I scored instead MaiPan MX913 img file at Maipad dot net . I was reading some reviews because this is a a single core device, and they are now pushing out quad core tablets now, because any attempt with this chipset to do Jelly Bean results in the touch screen stop responding (I have tried three or four already). I think also the problem is how 'low end' the single core is, and is why they are dumping these like crazy.
I have actually seen quite a few posts that some still don't get good ICS response no matter the img file, and so regress back to Froyo with alot of positive results. I dunno if there is a patch with the Froyo to compensate for the changes to Adobe Flash and now the Java scripting changes, if your still not happy with the results from MaiPan.
I was going to sell mine on ebay, but now I might give it a try with the December img at MaiPan and seems to be pretty snappy, but won't replace my laptop where I can open several web pages at the same time I think. I will let you know how the latest image works as I am intending to test this weekend.

Don't waste your time... I downloaded the 12.1 version of the MX913 (not DC), and now have no touch screen response...
Think I'll try the A10 AllWinner and see if that works.

Now I have tablet that boots up with NO touch screen... since I tried the MX913 firmware, I've lost screen responsiveness. I suggest to everyone NOT to buy any tablets from NoMoreRack.com. Their customer service sucks and their tablets are all cheap crap... I think I learned my lesson!

Wow. Yes. Maybe. Here is my sad story with a rare happy ending:
I ordered a MID9000 from No More Racks--BIG MISTAKE!--When, a couple of months later, it finally arrived (to my surprise), I set it up and was delighted to find that it actually worked. Up until.....5 weeks later, I left it on the charger overnight and that killed it. It appears these units are susceptible to overcharging. It would not boot past the "android" screen. Well, being an android noob, I was clueless. I finally discovered the Kocaso site that had downloads for the image files. It is here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link). However, the software that they recommend for installing the firmware did not work on my Windows 7 unit. Further search brought me here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link but it is on the Tablet Mods site), which clearly explained how to download and use LiveSuit to install firmware from a PC to an android tablet. And so. Back to the mymidpad firmware page! If you check the m9000 firmware, there are 4 possibilities. It says to check your serial number on the back to determine which one to use. Woe is me--my m9000 had no serial number. What the heck did I have? And so, I tried all 4 possibilities. NONE of them worked. They all installed OK, but the touchscreen would not respond. At that point, I was ready to throw the machine in the garbage. But one last chance: I tried to install one of the images given for the M9100 (M9100f), and to my shock, it worked like a charm and my machine is working better than ever. Go figure! I suspect that my M9000 actually is a M9100, at least in part. Who knows. I'm happy, for the time being. The moral is: be careful you don't overcharge these units!
my problem is that the touch stopped working ...
hey I have the same problem and I can not fix !!!! I have the same model. please help !!!!

Toshiba Excite 7.7 received Jelly Bean last night.

Hello,
Much to my surprise, my Toshiba Excite 7.7 received Jelly Bean last night.
Version 4.1.1000121313.01
About 360MB
It is a virtually unaltered version of JB. Some Google apps were updated: You Tube, Google Magazines, etc.
The tablet does have a better Quadrant score.
However:
1) The JB "Phablet Mode" is now the default
2) Toshiba did not fix the varying brightness while using the browser issue
3) The Super AMOLED+ screen is still not calibrated very well (look at any B&W picture)
Even so, I am thankful that Toshiba has provided a current update on a tablet that may have been left for dead.
Enjoy! Other major OEMs should really learn from them!
Sent from the zombie world. No they aren't coming yet!
I bought mine a few days ago as a Nexus 7 successor, main reason was the much better and bigger screen and the build quality.
Off course I was very sceptical wrt 4.0 VS. 4.2, especialy because I dont had any small hope that the "Silent Tablet Newby Toshiba" will announce or even release a newer Android Version anytime.
But now, Long Story short: Thumbs Up Toshiba!
Looking forward for an European Release for the "Toshiba AT270 7.7"

I wish there was an option to put 4.1.1 in tablet mode rather than in phone mode; and yo could remove the search bar. Other than that ahven't noticed any issues yet.
Just saw [1] that also the North America "Excite" Variants are using AT270 as model number, which is also used here in Europe.
Does this also mean that the 4.1 Rollout is a global one??
It yes, anyone found an official document which list the serialnumber groups and the specific Info which one will receive the update message during the next weeks?
HTC released such a list f.e. in the past for their One Series..

If you know how to dump this firmware tell me and I can try to do that.
I caught issue with Excite 7.7 - system booted up and then reboot and every time same thing. Some app cause that, don't know witch one.
So, I switched tablet off, then hold two buttons Volume up and Power, then tablet goes to boot menu where I need to choose recovery mode. After that delete all data and cache and restore clear system (factory reset).
Now there are no hangs up.

Any solution for changing JB phablet mode?
Any solution for changing JB phablet mode and being able to change the dock orientation ?
I was hoping that changing launcher would allow for the dock to change in landscape and in portrait but no such luck
Thanks
Good morning all.
I apologize for my ignorance, but I'm brand new in Android word. I just ordered a gorgeous HTC One and I saw this beautiful Toshiba for an excellent price in a shop where I live (Switzerland). Navigating through the options I saw no update available for the software and the installed version is 4.0.4... years ago. Is there any chance to pass this device to JB? also an unofficial rom will be ok for me. I'm convinced this tool can be significatively better with JB, and moreover, I don't want to buy a not cheap device with a 2 years old software.
Any suggestion?

Sorry for coming back to you after all this time but I have a specific question.
I would like to buy a Toshiba At270: I feel is a great tablet with a great display and the perfect size for me. I prefer it also compared to the Nexus7: more or less same hardware with a better and brighter screen in aluminium chassis.
Anyway I checked a model exposed in a shop trying to update the software and I found no version up to the installed one available. That model is running 4.0.4.
I'm living in switzerland: could be possible no update is availble out of US?
There is another way to get JB running on this tablet or is better for me not to buy it and evaluate a vendor more effective in OTA delivering?
Thanks for the response.

Hi,
I bought a Excite 7.7 recently and it has Android 4.0. As I read your post, and other article from end December 2012, I wanted to update mine as soon as I received it. But the update app, keeps telling no update available.
Do you know how I could get this solved?

Hello,
Much to my surprise, my Toshiba Excite 7.7 received Jelly Bean last night.
Even so, I am thankful that Toshiba has provided a current update on a tablet that may have been left for dead.

hello where can i get this update since mine shows there are no updates available and still has 4.0.3 installed
Hello,
I don't know how to capture the update. The tablet, to the best of my knowledge, has never been rooted. ICS may have been a better firmware. I think the phablet mode is terrible.

Android 6.0 Head Units..

I have talked with a few Chinese suppliers, and know that the 6.0 head units are on there way. I am having a hard time pinning down a specific release date, but I do have in writing we should see the new units by the end of this month (October).
I'm not sure if we will get a better CPU, but they should all be coming with 2gb of RAM, and be running 6.0
Not being a dev, I'm not sure if that will really be of any huge benefit or not... But I'm guessing the standard improvements from 5 to 6 will be present.
Just putting this out there, in case some individuals are thinking of getting a new head unit. If the CPUs aren't changing, I imagine it will be simple enough to flash most of the older units with 6.0 anyways, when we have an official ROM.
All this aside, I think I'm going to switch to the AVH-4200NEX either way =)
Interesting, noting new unfortunately see Joying posts "due october" then, maybe later
Also beware of the Pumpkin 6.0 units right now.
They say they are running 6 but there are lots of clues that it's a hacked up KitKat 4.4 install.
Saw ownice have one for my car. Not sure if it's legit or not:

Even have 4g lte built in..
Hello,
I received one of the new Android 6.0.1 Pumpkin radios (SKU: 27-AQVW71):
http://www.autopumpkin.com/android-...fi-usb-sd-dvr-obd-steering-wheel-control.html
I'm not yet very happy with it. Seems to have some problems:
- No paid apps from play store can be installed
- Steering wheel control not working at all
- PDC not fully working
I wonder if I can install a custom ROM. Tried to find out MCU and processor. But "Settings - About device" doesn't give anymore detailed information, only "Build number K2001_JC_S212103.20160812.14592646".
But I found something in the "car settings". There is "APPVER K2001_JC_S212103.20160812.14592646.N0011", "PlatformVER K20-2016/08/08[15:24:12]-4.04", "BTVER GOCBC8_V1.0/2016:06:28:14:48:31" and "MCUVER V1.3-FF01-20160812-A02-CAN0000-DVD01044101 TYP99"

Nothing about RK3188 or RK3066 as processor or on of the MCU listed here:

Attached some more information from CPU-Z.

Is this a completely new hardware where no custom ROMs are available yet?
Regards,
Klaus
Klaus. You're running an allwinner a23 1.5ghz mali-400 quad core, from the looks of it. Not a very great chip. Surprised it's running 6.0.1 properly.
I wish I could give you other details. Chances are you could root and ROM it. There should be builds available, that's a common generic CPU.
When are these Chinese HU going to get anything decent in them???
The new ownice C500 is listed with a Cortex-A53. Does someone know how good that is?
Also it would be interesting to know what LTE frequencies are supported.
It has 2 GB Ram and Android 6 and is currently available for just 274 EUR as a mobile only deal (41% off). Seems like a really good offer, or what do you think?

Upgrading an Allwinner Android 4.4.2 to a better/Newer OS

Hi,
This is a plea for help from anyone out there who knows something about the Allwinner 32GB Tablet. I bought one a few years back when 4.4.2 was all the rage, but since then, have pretty much ignored it.
I now find that I have a use for it so I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the OS on my machine, just to make it a little better at absorbing Apps and making them work - so far, I have not had much luck
in trying to download apps from the Shop. I have a copy of Android Magazine, issue No 45, which showed me how to do the upgrade but unfortunately, nothing it refers to is there any longer, or at least in the form it is shown in the magazine. However, I do see the SDK website, but on it, nothing at all about the Allwinner Android Kitkat or the model number BS1078. The Firmware version is 4.5, and the kernel is 3.3.0, and it has a
Quadcore - A31 Series Processor Type (most of this is double dutch to me, but it may mean something to someone).
Regards to any and all,
Philip.
