hi guys,
i just god nexus from a second hand store. i want to hard reset it but it does't.
it is stuck in the screen where the little green guy with the triangle with an exclamation mark next to it. please help.
is there a way to load the factory rom manually?
(i know how to jailbrake and downgrade an iphone so this should not be so hard)
Hold volume down and press on once you see menu with recovery
press volume again and you will see option for clear storage - thats what you want
that is what i have done already. but why is the mobile preventing me from hard reset ?
I have been hanging around the XDA forums (as well as every other forum I could think of) and have been unable to solve my re-set problem.
I got my Nexus S about a week ago and decided to unlock it. That went well, no problem. Then I decided to root using Superboot - that did not go well. Now my phone is unresponsive, just sits on the Google name with an unlocked padlock on a black screen. I can get into fastboot mode by using the volume up and power button if I do this right after replacing the battery. I cannot seem to go anywhere else. Once I got into a menu that would let me install from sd card, but none of the options would install. I followed the following directions to see if I could do a hard reset:
Hard reset Nexus S using hardware buttons
This option is recommended if you are unable to access the options via the Android OS.
1. Turn the phone off by pressing and holding the Power button for about 2 seconds, the tapping Power off. Alternately, you can pull the and replace the battery.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button while pressing and releasing the Power button.
3. Continue to hold the Volume Down button until you see a menu appear.
4. Now tap the Volume Down button to scroll down to the Clear Storage option.
5. Press the Power button to select Clear storage.
6. Press Volume Up to select Yes.
After a few minutes the hard reset process will be completed and you can reboot your phone to factory default settings.
I never get to the clear storage option, although I have tried data/factory reset and wipe cache. I can get to the android with the triangle and exclamation point but that will just sit for ever, and removing the battery at that point and then rebooting does not work. It just takes me back to the Google and the unlocked padlock. FWIW - my phone updated right before I unlocked it. I don't think it is bricked, but I sure can't get passed the Google name or the Triangle/android.
Thanks for any help.

I've the same problem now - did you ever resolve yours?
Here is how
Power off by removing battery
Hold vol up not down and power,
release power and you get Fastboot mode
vol down to recovery and click power
You get the screen with Android + triangle
Click up and Power again for few seconds
you will get the 'Android Sys recovery'
However if you have my problem 'error in loading the built in SDcard memory this wont help.
The only way i managed to get it to work some times although not now, is to reboot the mobile while it is connected to a PC, and load the PC at the same time.
However this time i am stuck at Google screen
hi guys

I just got a TF Infinity not too long ago and its been sluggish since, well, I got it. I wanted to do a hard reset. I pressed power and volume down and it boots, every time. Never can I get to that special screen. I can enter APX mode, but that doesn't help me much here. I just upgraded to JB OTA (stock, never rooted) not too long ago so I'm not sure what's up. Do I have to install a custom recovery? When I had the TF101, I was able to do a hard reset with no issues. But with this, I never get the text on the screen after powering on.

Turn off your device. Hold volume down and power buttons until you see white text on the screen then release both buttons. Now hit the Volume down button (you have 5 seconds to hit the Volume down button) to navigate to wipe data icon, when wipe data icon is highlighted, press the Volume up button 2 times. Your device should started to perform factory reset (data wipe).

Nothing comes up when I hold the power and volume down buttons. No text, nothing.

Actually, this changed with the JB booloader:
There are now 4 options: RCK (recovery), cold boot, fastboot, wipe
The timeout is now set to 10 seconds. Once you have moved the selection (vol down), the timeout is disabled and you can stay in the boot screen for as long as you like.
There is no (more) need to press vol up twice to accept the selection

How long have you been holding them both down? It can take up to 5-7 secs, you'll know, the tab will vibrate shorty.

I suggest you should manually reflash the full JB package from Asus site.Since you don't have root/unlock, should be straight forward.

Yeah it will. You are not doing it right.
You hold volume DOWN first, then with that kept down you hold the power down for 7 secs.
You will get some text and a bunch of icons on JB.

I just did that. There's not many ways this can be done. At the same time and one before the other. I did both and neither produce the text on the screen that I need.

I posted a thread with my problem but...
I had been running JB since the OTA patch and my tablet crashed and then got stuck in a bootloop. I was able to get into the bootloader to try a recovery but it froze every time. I just tried doing a full wipe and now, just like you, I can't get the bootloader anymore. So I feel for you. Right now I think we both may be in trouble...

Have you tried the pinhole reset?

I wish it were that easy. Pinhole reset has the same effect as just turning the unit off and back on. Still unable to enter recovery mode, only able to get into APX. I opened a ticket with Asus and am starting to accept the fact that I won't be able to use my infinity for a while
did you do a reset from settings/backup and reset yet?
did you mess with dpi at all?

I'm not the OP, but I am experiencing the same issue as him (unable to bring up recovery menu/text stuck at first splash).
As with OP, my device is 100% stock, not unlocked, running JB (.18 went live today which is what I am afraid may have caused this in my case).
I was checking my email this morning, the device froze, black screened, rebooted and then was stuck in a boot loop. No settings or options or backups or resets or messing of any sort triggered this event.
-Pinhole reset has no effect.
-APX mode seems to be useless since the device is locked.
-Computer can see the APX device but I can't flash anything using fastboot etc.
-Cannot get to ADB because device will not boot.

I was on JB 16 and now 18 and both, i couldn't get the white text on either. Im still stuck. Does a factory reset do the same thing as a hard reset?

I can confirm another casualty of this issue. I am in android app development and my TF700 is experinceing the same issues you all describe.
Installed JB update. Tablet starting crashing to a backlit black screen. Sometimes a reboot fixes it. Most of the time it will just bootloop to the black screen. I have gotten into settings and factory reset. It did not help. I got into recovery and selected wipe. It did not help.
Not encouraging.

Messed with this and felt that this hint was actually not correct, but I realise that a bit of extra info might help;
Please mind that you will see the first ASUS logo ("Inspiring Innovation - Persistent perfection" single colour white) and the nvidia logo on the lower right, for a while before this happens. My first attempts failed as I didn't press long enough.
Yours trulely played aroud with the option and got the two logos where one was "empty data" ... Dooooh. Guess what I just did. Bleeding happy that the google account allows also retarded and trigger happy users to restores their content
Hi
Is there any way to remove a screen lock om this phone?
My son wishes to make one, but cant remember the code
Do i have to drop the phone into the garbage?
No good phone after all.
Hope some one can help me, or my son, with this.
Gaasen
You can factory reset the phone. I'm not sure, but I think if you keep guessing wrong, you'll get an option of logging in to the Google account associated with the phone, and.... well, actually, I don't know what happens then, since I've never done it or seen it.

Have to ask my son, if he has got that message about resetting.
Thanks
Gaasen
He hasent got that option.
Other options, to unlock ?
Gaasen
Try this:
Hardware key Reset:
1. Press the Power button to turn off the unit.
2. Press and hold down the Volume Down button located on the side of the device, then press the Power button and release it.
3. The phone should start with a menu present a list of options.
4. Use the Volume Down button and navigate to the Clear Storage option.
5. Then press on the Power button.
6. Select Yes to confirm your choice of selection.
Your Samsung Galaxy Xtreme S5690 will now reset back to factory default settings and all your data will be erased.
Hmmm...
The phone just start up, and wants the code
No list as you told.
Any other things to try out?
Gaasen
Make sure you hold down the Volume down button long enough. If still nothing, try other key combinations to get boot into factory recovery.
Cant get the "meny" to reset the phone.
If i push and holds the voloume down, press power for 2 sec, release power and still holding the voloume down, the phone loads until the screen lock appears.
I also tryed the other buttons, but just load until screen lock.
Is there any other way to reset the phone, with USB or so?

Yesterday i got a customer with CELKON CT1 TAB running on android 4.0.4, locked out asking for Google user login (resulted in multiple wrong patterns entered to unlock). I searched the web and was able to figure out what to do when this happens. Well USB debugging mode was disabled too. Only way was the RECOVERY mode.
1. NOTE: Apps and app data will be formatted. But data on SD card will be safe.
2. This tab does not have hard volume buttons.
3. Switch off the tab and then hold BOTH VOLUME SOFT BUTTONS and the POWER BUTTON.
4. When you see the android logo. keep on holding both the volume buttons and release the power button.
5. A screen pops up saying something abt encryption and you need to reset to factory settings.
6. Click on OK. The tab does its work and restarts with factory settings and apps.
7. Done. Use your google account to setup the device.
I hope this would be helpful. I spent a lot of time pressing the reset button near the mic, with a paper clip. It simply wont get into recovery mode. Its just like a reset button on a PC.
My wife had a tf101 that she put a password on at 3 o'clock in the morning doped up on pain killers and doesn't remember what the password is. I have tried to reboot back to factory but when I select wipe date, all it does is boot normally. I tried to flash it but I cant get into the tablet to set it to mass storage device. PLEASE HELP!!! :crying:
If your wireless is connected, failing 10+ so times (even after the 30 second lock) should prompt you for the gmail account, and you'll be able to reset it.
Otherwise you have to do a factory reset on the device: Power it off completely, then hold power + volume down for 10 or so seconds until you see text at the top of the screen. Let go of both buttons. You should get to a menu that has 2 (or 4) options, one of which is "Data wipe". Press the volume down button to select the Data icon then hit volume up to confirm. This will wipe all data and bring it back to factory. But try the first trick, if your data is important.
Last fix, use Easy Flasher to get back to stock.
You are a life saver. Thank You very much!!!!!! :good:
