Android is based on the Linux 2.6 & 3.x kernel, which is why Android and Linux are (moderately) cross compatible.
Windows is a completely different world. Not going to happen.

HEY

hey is it possible to pull the entire Android OS, all assoicated files, etc off of a phone..like a droid or X for instance, and then run that from a virtual machine on your computer??
No, but you could check out the android x86 project or run eclipse.

i specially wanted to "emulate" a phone on the PC to check stability. i want to TOTALLY strip froyo, down to basic operating system and build it back up with no bloat, no apps, no nothin. customize it yourself, ya digg?
To run on what, phone or computer?
You said you wanted to run it in an emulator on the PC, which is what the android x86 project is for.
If you want to run it on the phone, eclipse is the build environment.

Can one access or use the underyling linux O/S in an Android device?

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what I've read, but my understanding is that Android "O/S's" are a VM (via Dalvik?) that runs within a pared down linux O/S. Assuming that's not too far off, is it possible to add packages or programs to that Linux O/S? Could I, for example, add regular old Wireshark to it? Obviously the programs would have to be compiled for the correct cpu platform.
Thanks.
The kernel is Linux one... As for your question, provided you have rooted your phone, you can create a chroot there and run Linux apps on your phone.

[q] request linux support

Android being linux based i have to look out for windows for tweaking the phone.
For example
1. Android language project is windows based
2.real apk leecher also windows based
3. Root with bin4ry also windows based
4. Sp tools also WINDOWS based .
Please make Linux based programs in Gui so that we don't have to switch to windows for a few programs for operating on android which is a Linux kernel.
I find it very tedious.
Please make it asap so that we can keep with Ubuntu only.
Cwm recovery also we should be able to flash it from Ubuntu.
Using wine doesnt perfectly work on usb interface and does not give required results.
Please do this urgently.
Make it all in Linux why depending on windows whats the point.
While it would be great to get more Linux support you have to realize most people have Windows and are not going to install Linux just to take advantage of these tools. Also most developers are most familiar with Windows and even if they do have the Linux knowledge they probably don't have the time to develop and test on two platforms.

If you have access to fastboot mode (Google it if you don't know how to open it), you can install the official Ubuntu ROM using this method:
How to install Ubuntu Touch on your Android phone or tablet
Or check this official instructions: Installing Ubuntu for devices
But, there's no Windows OS for Android devices.
However there are certain custom ROMs which gives Windows 8 like interface. Search and find those ones compatible for your device.
Else, you can install launchers that give UI like Windows 8 from Play Store.
Hope this helped

Installing Linux on chinese android tablet

Hello,
Hopefully can find further help here...
Obtained Keypoon K30s Pro tablet from China. It is running Android 10 as its oem OS. I want to set it up with a linux distro instead of android.
Ofcourse due to exotic make I have not been able to find any threads of information on this topic for this brand tablets.
Only guide so far has been hardware specs...
It is running on Unisoc SC9863a 64bit ARM Cortex A-55 cpu at 10 cores.
10GB RAM
512GB internal storage
PowerVR Rogue GE8322 integrated graphics card
It successfully connects with windows 10 cmd adb bridge.
As I understand, I would need a linux distro img format file to try and boot it from bootloader via ADB, however official sources only offer ISO downloads.
PS I am open to any linux distro which would offer best compatibility to the hardware. From what I can see Debian seems to be a good choice. (as this brand is not
part of the supported device list for ubports of ubuntu touch couldnt get past that either)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Try this
Andronix - Linux on Android – Apps on Google Play
Andronix lets you install Linux on Android without root.

Thank you for reply.
Looks like Andronix is a Linux emulator and backbone still remains Android.
with this also comes certain limitations...
I was looking to completely replace Android with a Linux distro.
Any suggestions?

Yes, you are correct there. Andoid is built off the linux kernel.
However, it is still limited in what you can do, you have proprietary bloatware bogging down your device and the biggest issue for me is that google is the manager of it all.
So I am strongly coming from privacy side as well.
I have seen quite a few options similar to Andronix on play store. Correct me if im wrong- they are like a virtual machine on windows..? Not sure how this setup works, if you are able to save your OS state, packages etc, or its a clean slate everytime you fire up the vnc server and connect to the distro of choice...
So I am really interested to see if its possible to fully get rid of android and try linux. (Cant install windows as ARM cpu's are not supported, not that I wanted windows anyway)
Many thanks
