Battery drain - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First let me say I love Redemption ROM, it is the most stable of what Ive found.... However my battery life is about 15% of its former self...is the v6 supercharger causing this ?I turn my brightness down of course but also I'm using wifi on demand and all my other radios are shut down. anyone else experiencing this any help much appreciated!

[Q] 3G Huge Battery Drain

I'm experiencing a HUGE battery drain when i'm over 3G Network.
I'm using inDroid v6 Rom + G3 Kernel Ultimate (Not overclocking all the time ofc,i'm using "on Demand" ).
Any idea of whats happening ?
Would a Factory Reset Solve it ?
I've tried Battery Calibration app, twice, and still getting drained.
Maybe, chaning the kernel should help ?
I just dont know, waiting for a Light !
Many Thanks in advance
I'm getting 1.75 days on a single charge . No 3g usage but wifi with moderate gaming and calls and stuff.
Havent changed the fugumod kernel that came with i6.
better replace g3mod by fugumod from OTA. I hope it'll solve ur prob.
I'm not an expert , just based on my experience

My battery only gets drained once i'm using 3G.
Overall lifetime is preety decent considering gamming + heavy usage.
I recalibrated the battery (for the third time),and so far,it is working.
Lets hope / wait !
Thanks anyways : )

whether battery calibration has to be done with 100% charge or not?? and after calibration what does it mean by full cycle? discharging it until it switches off??
Same here :-(

Try another kernel
I use g3mod v2.0 (waiting for 2.1 final version), but you can try Fugumod, and see whats bets for you

First charge phone fully to 100% Leave it for maybe an hour extra because the phone shows 100% when it's actually maybe 95% ish. Then calibrate the battery and fully drain the battery until phone dies. Then fully charge. Then fully drain. Do this at least 3-4 times and your battery should last a little longer.
by now I've seen quite a lot of reports about heavy drain in 3G.
not sure if this is entirely exclusive to g3mod but might be.
I myself am tinkering much with my device right now to know what causes what.
Can anyone tell whether 3g drain is also a problem in fugumod?
Perhaps some kind of bad setting that causes excessive polling?

There is no such problem in fugumod from what i have seen. Also tinkering with your device without having a lot of knowledge about how it works could cause problems. I should know

I know just about enough to keep it running, toy around the Linux level with busybox, change mount options, locations and the likes while also frequently changing the kernel to g3mod's latest.
It's really hard to know whether you get a comparable objective reading of the battery capacity, even after recalibrating.
Sometimes when I'm outside my battery drops relatively quickly but then back home it remains at the same percentage for hours. So I guess the quick drop was a false reading.
It might also be temperature related. Or about local 3G infrastructure. Or something to do with your custom ROM and installed apps.
That's not to say that the 3G suspicion is invalid though.
But do fugumod / g3mod even address the 3G module with different drivers?

G3MOD is HEAVILY modded so i think they will have messed around with the 3G module. Fugumod is a little lest intense so i don't think as much development has been done to it. Just the basics which is why i love it.
battery drain is dependent on rom too.some heavily baked roms will give less battery life

[Q] Best ROM for battery life?

I get horrible battery life with nearly every ROM Ive used on my Sensation, sometimes drains 10 percent an hour with the screen OFF. I have all data off, no wifi on, no apps running, juicedefender ultimate, and underclock when screen is off, and I read about people who can get a full day while using the total potential of the device. I had the same problem on my old device, so I returned it to T-Mobile and still have problems on the device I got in return. I dont expect to get two days on battery, I just find it crazy that I can barely use my device without the battery draining rapidly. I've considered undervolting but every rom ive downloaded didnt support it, so I was curious if you guys know of any efficient ROMs that save a ton of power and can be undervolted. I'm not very experienced with this kind of stuff and every ROM ive used has been poor on battery life, so help would be appreciated.
I am using InsertCoin ROM and it is running fine.
I used to have a 3% battery drop per every hour the phone was sleeping on stock rom and ARHD ics. Then I tried Virtuous Inquisition and it fixed the issue. Be sure to install the rom with its appropriate radio.

ICS isn't fully stable yet, but seriously.. give that a try. My battery has doubled its lifespan. I have NO idea what htc/google did, but I get about 12 hours moderate usage and still around 50%. Getting 12 hours back then was what I was hoping I could hit! Now it lasts beyond my expectations
I've also read that you tried undervolting and everything. I just stayed stock and it's great, no effort! no custom kernel, OC/UC , it's amazing. If you read through the threads, I'm not the only one experiencing awesome battery
If you must know, I'm using InsertCoin but I think ARHD and all the other ICS roms will pretty much solve your problem

Cell Standby Battery Drain On LiquidSmooth RC7 ROM?

Hi All,
I'm noticing that Cell Standby is taking up a large % of the battery on LiquidSmooth RC7 ROM. Is anybody else noticing this?
Is this due to the same issue with where the power_profile.xml file is set to use 34 mA instead of 3.4 mA?
Is there a proper zip file to fix this issue if so? I know there have been some in the past but not sure if they work for AOSP ROMs and more specifically for LiquidSmooth RC7 ROM.
Thanks.
a little off topic.. but how are you getting 16 hours without a charge and still at half battery %?
i have the processor governor on Powersave and i'm a heavy user of my phone on liquidsmooth RC7 and i barely get 10% of battery life an hour.

Your cell standby is not high... By the looks of it you were on wifi and didn't use your phone that much because you have 16 hours on without a charge and still have a lot of juice left... From what I understand cell standby goes up the less you use the phone...so it looks normal to me imo but I'm no expert

pschatz12 is right that I was barely using the phone besides talking to my wife when I was driving home. In regard to the processor governor, I never changed the settings after flashing so it's whatever the default is. However, I don't believe it is correct that cell standby would take up the most power without that cell standby power drain bug because I used to have this same issue on regular ICS stock ROM and it was fixed when I updated the power_profile.xml file that is located within the framework-res.apk file in /system/framework.
The problem is, you have to recompile the file or it won't work properly and could potentially soft brick the phone which has happened to me before.
As a result, I'm asking if anybody else on LiquidSmooth RC7 rom is noticing this Cell Standby power drain issue because I don't think it should be normal and is something that the developers should potentially look at fixing.
In terms of battery life I get on this ROM, I have let it sit without using it for 2 days and 2 hours (so 50+ hours) and when I looked at the phone it still had 26% battery left so it's pretty good. However, I just don't like seeing Cell Standby take up so much battery life and it just reminds me of the Cell Standby power drain issue mentioned in this post on the original ICS ROM:

Huge battery drain

somewhere around 6.6 update i started noticing my battery was draining faster anyone else and is there a fix i use to have great battey life on this rom what has happened.
I'm guessing your on embryo? Have u checked your wake locks with better battery stat? Did u flash a kernel? Installed any new or unknown apps? We need more info to help u.

[Q] God awful battery life on latest Synergy Rom release???

Hi, I just installed Synergy Rom on my phone about a week ago and I have been experiencing terrible battery life. It only last 10 hours max which I don't understand because I used to get a whole 24 hours out of one charge. I've calibrated the battery and let it run at least 3 cycles of complete charge and discharge. I turn off data, wifi, gps, auto sync, etc while not using it. I even turn off auto backlight and turn it to the lowest setting to try and save some battery there, but to no avail. Can anyone help me?? I'm using ziggy kernel as well in case anyone was wondering. Oh one more thing! When I do use the phone I tend to use it somewhat heavily but most of the time I'm in class or at work where I don't touch it. I thought maybe it was because I don't get good cell reception on campus and it was constantly searching and trying to maintain a signal but I'm not sure. Anyone know what's going on?! haha Thanks for any help!
Use the app for betterbatterystats to see what could be causing the drain.
