[Q] How do I repair a broken pressure pin - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

While I was replacing the LCD on my HOX I ended up breaking off one of the metal pins that presses into the housing. I think that they are for the antennas. I was thinking just some super glue or something like that but I didn't know about if it needed to be conductive.

Any way you could post a pic?
I'm trying to think what metal pins you talking about

Tinfoil is the best and cheapest conductor in those cases.

Yes, it needs to be conductive. Soldering is going to be your best bet. I've broke them off a few times and janky fixes never work.

+1 that is definitely a solder job there.

Those same pins broke off on mine and the Wifi signal just took a dive and is horrible! (as in the router is 2ft away and i get only 1 bar 80-90db) I tried soldiering with some wires to the contacts on the back case and the signal got better, but not how it was before.
Is there more specific wires or methods that would make it better?

I would solder to the board, not the case:what:

When the actual pins are useless/lost then how would you make contact with the antenna in the case? Get to wires and solder one end to the actual contact on the board and the other end to the antenna contact on the case.
In my case the pins were snapped and flew out so i soldered two short cables, the signal is better, but as good as it was.

I didn't know you didn't have the prongs. In that case, I would probably use tinfoil, as was mentioned previously. Here's a trick to get it to stay in its proper place if your interested.
1. Solder a length of .031 solder to the board, where your prong broke. (Pics are for general example only)
2. Take a 2in x 2in piece of foil and fold it one direction in 1/16in. Folds. Then pinch it around base of solder wire. Fold it around until you foil is the same width as the broken prong(foil height should be slightly higher than prong because it will compact and we need a good contact with the body when reassembled
Snip any excess foil off, snip off extra length of solder wire, but leave about 1/4in extra. Use your solder iron and melt down excess 1/4in of solder into the foil, don't leave beading on top.
Check and make sure its held well into place and carefully insert phone back into its body

Could you replace the battery by doing this? Like take the battery from one One X and put it in another?
You can, its takes some more disassembly that I wouldn't reccomend. You have to remove 7 screws and detach 5 ribbon cables that are extremely fragile. Once you do that you remove the upper board and flip it over. There you will find where the battery cable is seated with protective tape securing it. Remove/save tape detach old cable, press new one in and begin assembly. The cables have to be put back in exact opposite order you took them apart or you never get them all back in.

Custom case

I am in the process of making a custom case for my HTC one XL, that has a metal frame, I heard that metal around the antennas would block its signal. I was wondering if that was true, if so would someone post a pic showing the location of the antennas?
Also if any one has an idea for the case feel free the post it.
A CNCed alu case would be sweet!

I'm pretty sure its along the top of the phone..
If the HOX is like any other superphone on the market right now, the GSM/HSPA/LTE radios will be located near the bottom rear of the device. The BT and WiFi radios will be located near the top left and top right corners of the device respectively. I'll look for a diagram or something and amend this post later.
Just out of curiosity, what was your concept? Are you going to incorporate usage of the Pogo pins for charging or any other functionality?
----------------------------------------
I stand corrected, as per the following FCC diagram

I had a aluminum metal bumper for mine, didn't affect data coverage but it made the already weak Bluetooth signal weaker

I'm going to have aluminum frame for strength. Not quite sure on the design yet, but will post a pic of the design when done.
Any ideas?

Maybe line the inside of the aluminium frame with a rubber sleeve to prevent any metal to metal contact?

I'm going to have some kind of cushion inside the phone between the frame and the phone... Will that be enough to keep the metal frame from lowering the signal?

Depends on the material really. Since radios transmit and receive radio waves, any physical contact with metal components could interfere with the physical board somehow. Having a rubber insulator would prevent any of those kinds of interference. The actual radio waves on the otherhand could be affected by the metal frame, depending on what material it is. Obviously anything ferrous, magnetic, will affect the radio waves. Not sure about anything that is directly non-magnetic though (aluminium) because one of the posts above mentioned that he had an aluminum bumper and it affected his BT signal.

[Q] Replacement power button circuit/cap? Help please.

Hi I bought a used AT&T HTC One X off craigslist and repaired the screen. During the installation somehow knocked off the connector that pushes down on the power button area, and the only way to turn it on is by touching something metal to it.. Is there anywhere u can get these tiny caps/circuits? (the small button that makes contact with the metal power button area) not the case button* I don't really want to have to replace the whole flex ribbon cable if not a must.. thanks so much in advanced!:fingers-crossed: (I think from searching around the web these are called *Dome Switches*
Lol, I've lost so many of those over the days

Your best bet is to buy a really messed up HOX for cheap and take the whatever you need from it.
I've also fond a few scouring the work area, the small bit of orange adhesive is what is most noticeable......hands n knees man

hi you can find it in a old damaged htc..in the hd2 you can find it ,i guess is the same..
Can't drop a bit of solder on that? sounds like you just need some contact there
They are all over ebay. Mine just popped off last night Seems like defect! I was able to use an exacto and a tiny piece of tape to place it and reinstall the unit in to the back and its working but I am afraid it will slip out one day and no good

Hello, sorry I'm late getting back, I was on a trip to the philippines. Would you happen to have 3 of those caps?? I would gladly pay u for those and shipping if you have them.. I ordered a set of the flex cables...and of course they ended up being for the tegra 3 version and do not fit ($50) down the drain :/ Thanks for the reply.

[Q] should I ask for warranty replacement?

So I have a droid maxx that I got on Verizon edge right when it came out. My friend asked to listen to music on it during chemistry today at school and he freaked out and came up to me and said "I don't know how this happened." Well turns out he broke off the end of his headphones in my jack. Now music won't play from the speakers and I can't plug in headphones. I'm afraid to try to take it out because if I damage anything in there then I wont be able to return it when my 6 months on the edge contract is up. Would warranty cover this? And I have some light scratches on my screen, I don't know if that would cause an issue with getting a replacement from warranty or returning it to "edge up"?
Take the end of a q-tip and dab a little glue on it and put the two ends together. Not enough glue to cause sticking to the sides of the headphone port. Pull it out once hardened. I tiny dab of super glue could work if it sticks to the q-tip.

You could take it to an electronics repair outfit and they may have certain pliers that could pull it out.

Good idea, but I'm not around any electronic shops to where I'd be able to have it taken out. I'm afraid its too far inside to be able to do the glue thing tho.
Try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOi8H13CizM
You could go to a hardware store, get a screw that is close in diameter to the headphone jack and use the glue. Just using the littlest amount possible so it does not squeeze or run is the most important part.

Magnetic port Loose Issues Xperia Z3

Im really mad at this , my xperia z3 magnetic port loose after a use of 2 weeks with the charging dock , thats mean im loosing waterproof , any solid fix for that ? a glue or something ? sony doesnt respond for that kind of ''issues'' ... **** sony
Just today I started noticing issues on my magnetic connecter/port, and have started to look around. The only information I've found so far is about how Sony isn't really covering this in a manner we'd expect.
*Edit* I do see that several people seem to be gluing the port back in. Not sure if anyone has had more success with Sony or their Vendor. I may, myself, contact T-Mobile at least before I try anything myself.
Mine has been fixed under warranty by UK Sony.
Unfortunately, it came out second time as well.
The problem is the magtron x2. - DO NOT BUY THAT!
Apparently, I am looking for a glue to do the job for myself…
I could send the phone back but that would be the longest solution…

Too strong magnet
the adhesive I've seen recommended is sikaflex 291, which is on amazon - it's a marine sealant apparently
just to add that the black magnetic connectors seem so much harder to find for the Z3 than the white ones, although a german retailer called handyersatzteilshop.de seems to have them, and they ship internationally
I think this could be good for the job. What do u think?
http://m.loctite.co.uk/en/product-overview/superglue/power-flex/power-flex-control.html
http://fs2.directupload.net/images/user/150215/5xude3mt.jpg
seems to tick a lot of boxes, although one or two others had temperature ranges included as part of the sales pitch - I've used that stuff before for general purposes to be honest, and it's quite fluid - when the connector falls out is there any indication as to how the original glue was applied by sony, and is there much risk of the replacement glue seeping into the rest of the phone?

I'm not sure if it would but if it's liquid then it might be hard to cover all holes for water entry. I used a clay adhesive and though it was hard to apply because the area is small, it did a great job of sealing my magnetic port so that I can still have water proof on the device and the port is very strong now.

Are y'all yanking out the magnetic charger thing straight out? I usually just snap it off to the side so that I don't apply so much force to the charger port.

You have to mix the epoxy and apply, it's a bit thick and gooey but you can still easily get the required amount. I used a small metal tab to get my G2s LCD fixed in place, as you know the G2 has a tiny bezel, if I used too much it would have gone into the LCD layers, but I avoided that.
sisqoboy, did you manage to fit the replacement connector, and any tips?
