Jelly Bean 4.2 Hates December - Android General

I just ordered the Nexus 4 and have a December birthday... and from the looks it, neither are happening this year.
Thanks, Google!

I wonder if this means it'll start pushing out to NS owners during that date...

Highly unlikely.
There isn't a lot of history here, but for what it's worth: The Nexus S was announced on Dec 6th running Gingerbread. The SDK was available on Dec 6th. The Nexus S became available in the US on Dec 16th. Gingerbread started being pushed into AOSP on Dec 17th. The Nexus One didn't get the OTA to Gingerbread until Feb. Apparently the OTA was rather buggy from the few threads I read (I had sold my N1 in Dec). Maybe this was the cause of the delay.
Froyo was announced May 20th, the SDK was available on May 20th. Froyo OTA'd to the Nexus One on June 23rd (that felt like a LOOONG wait) and subsequently pushed into AOSP.
We'll see what the timetables are this time around, but I wouldn't expect it for several weeks at the earliest. After the "official" unveiling of ICS if it's anything like past announcements you'll see the SDK/NDK first, followed by the push into AOSP in a few weeks, then some time after that you'll start to see OTA's to older.
Google may change it up this time and OTA to the Nexus S sooner, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
we wont get icecream till after prime release
My guess would be a month or two after
I hope Google surprises us all with OTAs to many devices concurrently. But that is even more unlikely than us getting in a few weeks.

im pretty sure google wants the prime owners to enjoy ics first. its a selling point right now.
on a side note, (i don't remember the history) were there any custom roms running froyo or gb before the official OTA was sent out?
If only they'd release ICS for Nexus S just to sorta promote it lol
Nexus S

Why would they give it to another device when the Prime is supposed to be the flagship ICS device?

You understand they postponed the product announcement. I doubt they are delaying the launch of things (especially on the hardware side).
"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."
The delay sucks.
Here are leaked photos and videos of the Prime running ICS: http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-galaxy-nexus-spotted-in-the-wild-video/
Why the heck was this thread moved?
Ice Cream Sandwich relates to Nexus S, even if there is conversation about Nexus Prime thrown in.
The heck?
Yeah, they aren't delaying any launch. In fact, they will probably just move the announcement to later in the week. It will not affect any dates other than maybe they move the SDK release back two or three days.
Woohoo!
Bring it on!
I hear it's in 29th October
I wish ICS on my Captivate
Gah, first no SGSII on Verizon, now a delay in the announcement for ICS and the Prime? God, why are you punishing me!?
Does this mean that 3.0 + is going to be available for mobiles also ?
Time to wait and see.

Let's hope it will be worth waiting ...

[News]Next version of Android to be 4.3, will retain Jelly Bean name.

Google I/O 2013 is less than a month away and if history is any indication, we are in for a new version of Android. But those waiting for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie just might be in for a bit of disappointment.
Read more from the source or here
They'll release the Nexus 5 and KLP 5.0 in the fall. Motorola X will come out this summer and will run 4.3 Jelly Bean

Android Updates : Google Nexus vs Samsung Galaxy S

So Android 4.4 is here and we all start waiting for Samsung to deliver the update. But one thing that caught my mind is the news that Galaxy Nexus will not get the 4.4 update.
Google stops updating Galaxy Nexus just two years (November 2011 - November 2013) after it came out, it started with 4.0 and ended with 4.3 as the last official update. So it received updates for just 18 months.
Samsung Galaxy S3 started on Android 4.0, 4.3 update is coming in November and 4.4 update will probably be scheduled for next year. It got released in May 2012.
So who is delivering more updates here? I am not talking about the update schedule here.

Anyone think heartbleed is the reason for 4.4.3 delay?

This update is becoming like the Sasquatch. Plenty of rumors, but nothing for months. Just around the time the update was first rumored, heartbleed was found, and this update has gone past all rumored dates which is rare. What do you think?

Nope. It's easy enough for them to fix.
4.4.2 was not affected by heartbleed. And Sprint announced the release date of 4.4.3 after heartbleed was announced publicly. So, no, I don't think it has anything to do with it. For all we know, 4.4.3 is right on schedule.

just like every other update. and it going past all rumored dates.. again, just like every other update. rumors are rumors, nothing else. they arent based on anything factual, just what people THINK will happen. only google knows when the update will come, no one else.

"Android
All versions of Android are immune to CVE-2014-0160 (with the limited exception of Android 4.1.1; patching information for Android 4.1.1 is being distributed to Android partners)."
android is, linux at it's *heart* afterall, lol
I dont think we will see 4.4.3 soon...i think they release it close to their I/O and then wait for 4.5/5.0 version!!!
lol.. that's my prediction also..
way too much time has passed for a measly 4.4.3 bump, to think or expect that this far in the timeline, is sleeping on google's development team;
i think their working in over drive, to bring a 4.5 to fruition for the nexus 5, not to supersede a 5.0 i/o, & nexus 6,
THEN bring the 5.0 update to the nexus 5 afterwards..

Android Lollipop Release Date

Android Lollipop coming on the 17th of this month according to the Android Developers Google+ page. Possible release of the Nexus 6 and 9 also. 2 DAYS!!!!
Well, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices have to came with Android Lollipop , I wonder when Nexus 5 line of device is going to get updates ?
It won't by then, I was talking about the SDK. I am not quite sure, I've heared the 1st of November and 3rd of November but I gotta hope not.
Well i cannot wait till it gets ported to the S3 mini haha By the way, do you think the rom size would increase/decrease?
