[Q] HTC Sensation Continuous Bootloop - HTC Sensation

Unlocked
Pyramid PVT Ship S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMc-boot
I installed the new viper 1.41 rom and then tried to flash one of the kernals. It said it was all done but then now I'm stuck in a continuous bootloop.
I can boot into recovery and have tried to flash another rom already but it stays in bootloop, also tried flashing different kernal and still doesn't work.
Tried to start from the beginning using cmd etc (adb etc) but cmd can't find a device when using the command adb devices.
What should I do? Please help !!1

Hi,
Do you have 4EXT recovery installed?
If so ,enable smartflash.

"Download 4EXT recovery (1.0.0.5!)" I have this on installed and smartflash is already enabled via recovery.

Hi,
Unless you have it permanently enabled, you must enable it just before you flash anything.

Again I've already set smartflash before every flashing of roms. Just this time I'm stuck in a bootloop and can't do nothing about it?

Also stuck in the same boat
Hi!
I too am stuck in a bootloop trying to flash CM10.
The problem is I thought I needed CWM to flash the firmware and am now stuck with the CM10 logo when I try and reboot the phone.
Doing more reading 4ext seems to be required to fully wipe the phone rather than CWM
I've found PG58IMG.zip which is recognised when I boot into recovery, but not apparently installed. Perhaps not surprisingly CWM won't install the zip.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to the installation?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi,
Firmware is not dependent on a particular recovery.
4 EXT is a better choice ,because it gives you more options.
What PG58IMG.zip were you trying to flash?
S-on/off?
hboot?
radio?
ROM?
Kernel?
etc
etc
etc
More information is required...

Getting past the bootloop
After my plea for help yesterday regarding the bootloop after I had tried to update my HTC Sensation, I eventually found the answer to my problem. Also the response I had yesterday raised some questions which I note at the end
.
Firstly I was trying to update my stock firmware HTC Sensation to CM10; the build I was using was the AOKP / Kang build by bruce2728 dated 16th November as that seemed to be being actively maintained and the functionality I required was reportedly working fine. I read the rather cursory instructions and given I’ve updated several Android tablets before I thought this will be easy. FAIL!
I’ll document elsewhere the process I followed, however the problem I had was when I tried to apply the CM10 image using CWM. It seemed to write successfully but when I came to reboot the phone it was stuck in a boot loop with the cyanogenmod logo stuck on the screen until I pulled the battery out. I couldn’t install 4ext using the play store app as I’d trashed the android installation.
I eventually replace CWM with 4ext by downloading the correct recovery image to my PC (from the third post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1666401, note that the recovery image is different for different phones and possibly operator.)
I then started the phone in bootloader (noting the phone was S-ON), plugged in the USB connection and pressed the power button, so fastboot was selected and then Fastboot usb was displayed on the phone.
From a command prompt on the PC after changing to the directory where I had placed fastboot and adb I typed “fastboot recovery recovery.img” and this replaced CWM with 4ext.
After rebooting the phone and getting back into the bootloader, I selected recovery. This time 4ext started. Before writing the new Android image I wiped user data and (I think it was in tools once you scrolled to the bottom) selected “enable 4ext superflash” before flashing the ROM and Google Apps and then successfully rebooting the phone. For reference the phone took less than 5 minutes to start up.
I now think my problem was trying to flash the ROM with S-ON and not using 4-ext superflash. Oh well
Following on from the response from malybru (Thanks)
Does writing a new rom change the radio? I’d understood it remained the same unless you made special efforts to change it and you were likely to wipe out the phone?
Thanks again
Kevin

maybe i am wrong but radio can be changed only when you are flashing different firmware and to do that you have to be S-OFF

Hi,
Flashing a ROM does NOT change the radio.
In fact, you cannot change the radio or firmware if you are s-on.
"Smartflash" is what I would have suggested if you had 4 EXT recovery and s-on.
It is all well documented HERE

[Q] Bootlooping and cannot open recovery

hi all,
Firstly apologies if this is covered somewhere but for the life of me I cannot get to the bottom of this. I have spent 2 weeks on and off trying to get a solution but my Sensation is still boot looping.
The problem occurred when I turned on the camera but was faced with a blank screen. I could return to home screen but the camera would not work each time I launched. So I rebooted the device but then I was stuck in this boot loop.
Device info
HTC Sensation S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
RADIO-11.21.3504.13_2
I was running Insert Coin 2.3.5 ROM for some time without issue
I was hoping I could just do a superwipe and flash a new ROM
FAIL - each time I boot into CWM and select Recovery, it just goes back to bootloop.
I selected Factory Rest from CWM menu
FAIL - it just goes into bootloop
Also cannot use ADB as the device will not connect to the PC. Im using a card reader to put files on the SD card but have not being successful resolving the issue.
Tried an SD card from a stock Sensation, no difference. Booting with no SIM, not working.
Most Bootloop fix's seem to involve super wipes / flashing new ROMs but because my Recovery goes into the bootloop I dont have this option. I wish it was so easy.
Can anybody offer an other ideas.
Thanks for you patience, I am not much of a modder or Android expert. I had just flashed a ROM many months ago to help improve battery life and I was happy with that.
Have you tried re-installing your recovery throught the bootloader?
try different recovery (4EXT) or reinstall recovery again
thanks guys.
I found these flashable recovery files. Both CWM and 4EXT. I have tried both zips and ran the update in HBOOT but am still booting in CWM and if I select RECOVERY is goes too bootloop again.

I think I might just give up and drop the phone into a phone repair shop and let them try it.
Did both flashes work? What do you mean you're "booting in CWM"? Can you boot into your system and are you using CWM app to boot into recovery, or are you manually booting into your bootloader and selecting recovery?

Try this pg58img (it helped me)http://www.wuala.com/LuckyThirteen/Elegancia/Official RUU Sensation/ it will update your sensation to ICS, (you will maintain s-off)
Thanks for that. It flashed fine and I was very hopeful it would work but unfortunately it is still in the boot loop. I feel like crying. Im stuck with an old iphone and I miss my HTC so much.

Yes both flashes worked.
What I mean is, I am manually booting with volume down and power button. In the boot menu I select recovery and it enters boot loop.

Can you please re-flash the stock ics (PG58IMG), look like you have some firmware issues (sometimes you have to flash several time in order to rectify previous mistakes...) Hope it helps, otherwise (in my humble opinion) you have some hardware problem
If you can boot normally into ICS and you are rooted, then get the 4Ext app or the ROM Manager app and flash the recovery through one of those.

so I gave this a go over the weekend and flashed maybe up to 10 times the ICS IMG.
Unfortunately it hasnt worked and Im left with my device looping.
so its off to the phone shop today and hopefully it can be fixed. Pity I rooted it and flashed the ROM as it should still be under warranty but I have voided that now

Flashing the ICS PG58IMG.zip doesn't replace the recovery.
Fix recovery first. Use stock recovery. When you get that working, change to "simple" cwm recovery.
thanks for the advise. It makes perfect sense as it appears it is my stock recovery that is broken.
however, I have searched around and cannot find a stock recovery image that I can flash as PG58IMG.zip.
Any help would be much appreciated.

before flashing stock recovery...can you try this first
get this recovery image
and flash the recovery via fastboot
steps:
1.go to fastboot in your device and connect it to your pc (after this device should read fastboot usb)
2.get the adb/fastboot setup ready guide here
3.go to your adb folder and place the downloaded recovery.img there
4.type fastboot devices (it should show your device serial number)
5.now to flash type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
this should do...if it didnt work then let me know ASAP...then we'll think of other solutions

I remembered incorrectly, it was only CWM and 4EXt

Stuck on HTC boot screen with ANY custom ROM

Hi there,
it's my fist post here so please do not shoot on sight if I did post in the wrong section. Also, I searched before posting if someone had the exact same problem and didn't find anything conclusive so here goes :
I have a unbranded Desire S which I sucessfully S-OFFed (HBOOT 2) a while ago, then installed 4Ext Recovery and rooted with success.
Now I reckon I am a bit tired of waiting for the ICS update from HTC, so what the heck, I decided i'd try some custom ROMs.
I did a full backup of all partitions using 4ext recovery and then wiped the data, cache and dalvik cache as most ROMs require.
I then proceeded to flash 3 different ROMs with the same unfortunate result : The flashing is always successful, and upon reboot I am just stuck on the HTC boot screen forever.
Then I have to turn the phone off (vol up+vol down + power) then remove the battery and put it back, and have to boot into recovery to continue from there.
After the same thing happened with the 3 ROMs (Fallout 4.4, Vanilla ICE 2 and IceColdSandwich) I just restored my initial backup and then the phone booted back to the original ROM without problems.
What could have I done wrong please ? What can I try next to make a custom ROM work ?
Thanks for your expertise !
Are you HTC dev unloced? or S-Off after downgrade?
I had a similar problem with my Desire S. It was a while ago but I finished up formatting my SDcard to FAT32. Used gparted to delete all partitions, then make one FAT32.
You can use gparted from the live CD or as I did rebooted PC with the CD, download here
I use Reaper v3.0 ROM which is very stable.
Hope this helps

I now entered 4ext recovery, cleared cache and wiped data, flashed the ROM, then rebooted into hboot and switched to fastboot mode. then plugged the USB and ran the command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
with the boot.img file extracted from the ROM's zip.
Rebooting did work and I now saw a different logo (HTC One since the ROM was ported from there) and then the phone booted into Android.
Thanks Skanob !

HTC Sensation 1.27 stuck at boot screen after rom change

HTC Sensation 1.27 stuck at boot screen after rom change
Yes yes, and another noob reporting for duty after screwing up the rom proces, it took me about 6 hours today after dozens of guides, broken links, outdated software and offline sites to get my phone rooted and i thought, well, a custom rom would be nice too.
So i tried the rom for Sensation from codenamelungo.net copied the zip on my sd card, installed it from recovery and now im stuck at the htc screen and being the noob that i am i ofcourse did not make a backup and have no clue what to do now
If someone could explain to me in simple words how i can fix this?
My recovery is CWM v5.8.0.9
*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.27.000
eMMC-boot
I did the:
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
formatted everything.
Tried relocking it and factory reset but all it does is then booting in recovery menu nonstop on every option i choose.
Another day:
Been on the internet again since i woke up and this is driving me insane, i read many posts with solutions but ofc they dont work for my version or phone damnit. I always have this kind of stuff, why didnt i have the Sensation where stuff go easy, at this point i am hoping to get it to stock again and not ever gonna try flashing custom rom.
I just finished up a couple readings about RUU files which ofc is also driving me insane.
My cid is HTC_e11
version-main 3.33.401.55
So i googled and typed in what was suggest on a post on this forum RUU Pyramid 3.33.401.55 and the only result it links me to is this website in showthread.php?t=1919969
I dl the zip file and what is in it, not 1 .exe file while all posts talking about restoring through ruu talk about a ruu.exe
Pfff, ive read so many posts now on this website and other solutions over the internet i can't even think straight anymore so gonna take a break, was really happy getting a smart phone but i enjoyed 30 min so far ><
Surely hope some1 can assist me with this dilemma

You should be able to flash any Rom based on your current firmware. Regarding roms the only difference between s-on and s-off is that you cannot flash boot.img from recovery.
For s-on, either you need smartflash, or a manual flash of boot.img via fastboot flash boot boot.img
This is applicable as long as firmware is same.
Happy to help.

[Q] Kernel and rom problem

Hi there,
Sorry for my bad english. I've looked for a answer but I don't understand all of solution :/
I'm on a mac and I have a Sensation Xe (Europe) S-On.
When I've change MIUI to Cyanogenmod. My mobil phone change the rom and bug with the kernel O_O ?
Now I got the bad Kernel for the room :S and the phone doesn't boot (stop at bootscreen).
I got the same problem if I try to install a new room by the boot loader.
At this time I want to back on the factory room and Kernel for my facility.
But the .exe of RUU doesn't work on mac (of course). And when I try on a windows; I connect the phone to the computer with boot tools but it's not work.
Sorry, I think it's not the first time someone ask this question but too much result to find the good way to do that

You need HTC driver for the phone to work on windows.
Anyway, the problem is that since you're S-On, you need to flash the kernel manually. You place it in the same directory as adb and fastboot (I don't know if you have it on mac, I guess that yes, or else use windows), and when booted to fastboot (on the bootloader), type the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Where boot.img is the name of the kernel of the ROM (it's inside the .zip of the ROM).
Alternatively, if you have 4EXT recovery (and if you don't, I suggest you get it), enable smartflash, and then you will be able to flash ROMs regularily.
Good luck.

Hi,
It's not possible to use 4ext, because the phone doesn't boot. he's stop at the boot loader.
I've try with adb for mac but I think I don't do the good command to flash by adb the kernel
ADB does not work, you have to use fastboot! Just follow the instructions by astar26. Connect your phone to your PC/mac and type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and then "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Hi, I'm trying to flash a Cyanogenmod ROM for a friend on his HTC Sensation Z710e (rooted, bootloader unlocked) - my own phone is an Xperia Ray so I'm not too familiar with the process. Do I need to flash the Kernel before I flash the ROM? What's the best way to do it? If it's a matter of following the process you outlined above then I'm afraid I can't really follow it - I really need an idiot-proof 'how-to' guide I'm afraid, like I said, I'm a total noob when it comes to the HTC Sensation.
Hope you can help.

astar26 explained how it works. If the sensation of your friend has 4ext recovery use smartflash, if twrp use htc dumlock then you don't need to flash the kernel seperately.

To flash a ROM on the Sensation:
Go to recovery
(Wipe. Then) flash the .zip of the ROM
That's it. There is, however, a catch for S-ON devices. HTC hasn't allowed flashing of /boot from recovery. This means that, for S-ON devices, the kernel cannot be flashed.
The best way around this is to use 4ext recovery. It has a option called Smartflash. That will flash your kernel even if you're S-ON.
(Some roms, like ViperS 3.1.x require an additional kernel flasher as SmartFlash doesn't work there).
The other way is to manually flash the boot image (kernel). Go to fastboot USB (this is NOT ADB), and execute:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
The boot.img is your new boot image.
Thanks for the reply!
We've already tried flashing the ROM as normal [using ROM Manager] but it doesn't work.
1. How do I know the device is 'S-on?' or not? Can it be changed? What's 'S-on' anyway?
2. Do you have a link handy for that recovery system you mentioned that allows flashing of kernels?
3. I haven't a clue how to manually flash the boot image - with my Xperia Ray I just use the Sony flash tool and fastboot. Can you give me an idiot's guide to doing this?

Ah, I see:
Power off and pull out the battery. Press Power + Vol down. Once the bootloader screen comes up it'll either say S-ON or S-OFF.
For flashing ROMs S-ON use this (also includes 4ext recovery). Read about S-ON here.
Just use smartflash (see link in 1). For the special cases I mentioned in previous post (no smartflash), just see the ROM's thread for S-ON flashing.
Note that if you want just want to flash ROMs the above method is good. For S-OFF, either use this, in case you followed above steps, or use this, in case you want to S-OFF first. S-OFF is not needed for flashing ROMs.
htc sensation z710e wifi problem
Hello friends!
Two months I have a problem with my HTC SENSATION! The problem is due to wifi,I read many forums about this problem, I tried many solutions, but without success! I assumed that the problem is due to "wifi country code". I tried this solution "WiFix Manager", but did not help.
I tried this option http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469428,
because my phone is unlocked with HTCdev, back to factory rom 2.3.3 hboot 1.17.11 to be able to achieve S-OFF method revolutionary s-off.
I did everything, but after a while the problem still occurs. The only way to fix it is by re-install the Rom again. Most often breaks when I restart phone while is connected to the wifi network, when my phone starts, this wifi error appears.I can not write scripts or fix them, so I can not do this option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368501 . My phone is from England, Orange UK is the operator of which is purchased,I do not know if there is any difference!? And now my phone is rooted, revolutionary s-off, got super CID, 4ext recovery....
What else do I need to have no more this wifi problem?
I'm not very good at Development or haking, so if someone can explain to me what to do to solve my problem, I would appreciate it!
I just want to install "Revelation 1.0.3" and only use it! I am from Bulgaria by the way.

lift up gently the antenna which is responsible for wifi in the back cover
I think I finally found the solution to the wifi problem!
The solution is in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23554125&postcount=1804
Now I use Android Revolution HD 7.3,sometimes the problem occurs again, but now I have a solution!
Just repeat the procedure described in the post and wifi working again.
When you delete a file "wpa_supplicant.conf", I have to re-enter all the router's password which I linked, but this is not such a big problem!

[Q] Working phone, No recovery

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an HTC One S used. For various reasons, I had to reinstall the stock software the phone came with. I couldn't find the exact matching version on androidRUU.com, and settled for soemthign close. When I boot into recovery, I see a screen saying "this build is only intended for developemnt blah balah", and then the phone reboots again, but into normal mode. I have no way of entering recovery, and therefore can't flash anything.
I've tried installing several different recovery modes, and absolutely NOTHING in this scenario changes. The phone is unlocked, rooted, and S-Off.
Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance,
Niko
I don't understand exactly what is the problem. Having no wifi/cell signal or the red text on boot splash screen?
For the first you could try a radio reflash since you said you're S-off. Then you might want to flash a different ROM. It should work if no hardware is broken
For the second you just have to flash a modified hboot that has that red text gone. There's a thread in which you can find this in the Themes section of One S forum. It's called something like "Boot splash screens..." but you'll find the modded hboots in it as well
Oh and to start with , you have to flash first a different recovery cause the stock one doesn't allow you to do any of the above. I would recommend you to flash TWRP 2.8.1.1 or 2.8.1.0

I was asking about the reboots when entering recovery. I'll edit my post for clarity.
I've already tried flashing the default CWM recovery adn RWRP.
The phone doesn't go into recovery mode, but just restarts as normal.
How do you try to go to recovery?

Both from bootloader menu and applications
And you flash recovery from fastboot and doesn't give you an error?
Could you please tell me the exact steps you make for flashing the recovery?

I just attempted flashing recovery through fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2781019
I flashed the version compatible with all HBOOT versions. My phone still cant enter recovery and is now eternally rebooting.
Reinstalling RUU.
Edit: actually I think I'll keep my phone like this for now, seeing as I still ahve access to the boot menu, just because I don't wnat to have to unlock and root it again
same problem here
Hello XDA friends, I have exactly the same problem described here, except that I already have S-OFF have CID 1111111 and yet when installing any recovery fastboot more correctly says that ended when I try to enter the recovery cell displays red letters and then restarts and enters Android normally, apparently for some reason can not write to the partition recovery,
any suggestions?

I answer myself.
the error was that I was with version 4.0.3 of Android, ran the RUU to 4.1.1 and now everything works fine.
