Hi all, I'm usually over at the vox section, but my daughter wants one of these tornados. I know nothing about them and was wondering if this would be a good purchase for $109.00 usd. Can you tell me good/bad about these phones if possible. Thank you all for your help!
Come on people, 26 of you have viewed this, I REALLY need an answer soon! Can you recommend this phone or not? PLEASE!
If you mean $109 including shipping and almost new phone then yes go for it, otherwise add $20 more and get new one from ebay.
About this phone:
Well I am sure others know more about it, but I am going to say that only thing missing in it is GPS. I mean I dont see what can any new phone do more than this one. You can use wifi for free internet (that means free skype calls all over the globe), watch movies in great quality, play music, put so many optional home screens and so many free programs as it's a windows based phone etc etc
You actualy might say its a mini notebook phone
Me and my wife both have them and we love them.

I agree with bllohin and recently bought a brand new one for my son for almost the same amount; see my sig at the bottom of this reply
The only issue is the camera is not much as compared to more expensive models. If you are (or your daughter) is brave enough to flash modified ROMs which are released in this forum then there is much improvement (but not the camera because it is hardware dependant).
Thanks

It's superb phone and I really like it. Upgraded to WM6.1.
Has tons of free programs / games that you can add.
I pity those brainwashed people who buy iPod while they can get a better phone for like 7-8 times less
Go for it! I bought it a few weeks ago, at first , i still feel unsure on this phone and O2 Graphite ,but i finally choose this one, for it mostly include all the functions on a cell phone ,and there are lots of resource on net.if a new one cost $100, it is much more cheaper than mine.... so go for it ~~ you will soon enjoy it~~
I love my tornado to be honest with you, i don't really need to upgrade it. Especially with all the ROM updates you can get here, they really put new life into the phone! especially the new 6.1 edition.
HOWEVER
I'd also like to get my hands on the new S730 that is basicly identical but has boosted up features and the slide out keyboard, which for me would be great as i do more typing then talking on the phone.
Other then that, i don't see any other reason. This phone is SuperB! has everything in it!
I agree that the Tornado is one of the best smartphones HTC ever released. I have the Tempo variant running 6.1 and I like it as much as my Touch Diamond! The only things I will say against it are that the RAM/ROM is a little low (64/64) and it could be a little thinnner than it is. And it would be nice if it had built-in GPS/3G.
The price you are being offered is a little on the high side. I just bought mine for about $100 new.
Hi people.
It's my first post in here, and, firstly, i may appologize myself for being a little "repetitive". I already read a lot of similar threads, but none of these answer my question. And, besides it, none of the threads considered a lot of conditions that certainly influence my choice.
I'm about to buy a Tablet, i have 2 options, but i'm still stucked in wich one to buy.
Again, i'm sorry for being repetitive, but this was the last mean i found to finally help me decide wich one.
First, the conditions i'm in(the most relevant are numbere in red):
1- Both tablets (Motorola Xoom 32gb WiFi only and a500), are priced almost in the same(in U$ equivalent U$700);
2- I live in Brazil, and in here all the tech is overpriced, no way i can buy one tablet for the "real" price, or lower, the tech support is hard to reach(specially Acer's one). Considering this fact, when Xoom arrived in here it's cost was something like U$1000, so, it's almost -U$300 now. So, guys, buying it for -U$300 in my conditions, is a great deal.
3- Motorola is about to release the new version of Xoom, so, one of my questions is just about this... Will the support(updates, etc) to Xoom be discontinued? If so, it still be a good option?
4- I loved the full USB port of a500's, but i have a baad, bad, bad history with Acer's support,because, as i said, I live in Brazil, and in here there's no "cheap" technology, and all the support stuff takes a long long time to be solved. in other hand, the Motorola is present in here. And with it i had more "happy enddings" than with Acer(that never fixed my notebook);
5- Again about the USB... I read that Xoom has also support for USB hosting, and i will be able to use a physical keyboard, instead of a Touch one, and, many other features just like: using Pen-drivers, external HD's, mouse & keyboard, whatever... The Xoom has the same support? It's easy to use it's USB capabillities?(with a proper USB OTG host cable, of course)
6- Let's say that Brazil isn't the "safiest" of the countries, specially the city i live in(Rio). Considering this, wich one is more easily to behiden on a backpack, or a bag?
7- I already used a a500 and i noticed that it does not run smoother as i thought. It "freezes" quickly in the main screen, and the app/game(City Jump 2 and CK Zombies) took several seconds to load, but ran nice. In the Xoom is the same?
8- Is it possible to make WiFi Tethering between both of the Tablet's and my Phone(Galaxy Ace)?
So, considering these facts, wich one is more "indicated" to me? Wich one worth's more?
It's a tricky question, but it will surely help me decide what to buy and where do i will invest a LOT of my money in.
Thanks for all of the answers.
p.s.: I appologize myself again, for this question, but i think it was more recommended to make this questions to you, that probably had some experience and/or own one or both tablets.
p.s2.: Don't think if it's necessary, but, i should use the Tablet in College, for games, and etc. And i don't care for the lack of 3G, since i have a mobile with 3G support and a 3G plan.
Please, guys, anyone?? In a few hours i will buy the thing! =(
I wouldn't buy the XOOM since XOOM 2 is just around the corner.
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA App
imo, the xoom 2 is a DOWNGRADE...

For all those questions, I think the original Xoom is your best bet. Especially if you plan to unlock/root it and flash a custom kernel, or else update to Ice Cream Sandwich when it's released.
Sorry to answer you late...hope you made the decision for the Xoom.

Man, thanks for the help, all of you.
I bought the Xoom!!
I'm glad to have such a piece of hardware!! The only thing i'm not that happy is with the "Protective Film"(don't know the exact name in english) for the screen. It's very, very, very hard to apply. =)

There are lots of different types of screen protectors--different brands and ways to apply. See this thread for some different information if you don't like the one you have. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985885
Hey, okantomi!!
U know if the Steinheil shipps worldwide?
BEcause i'm in Brazil, an in here it's hard to find such a Screen shield.
Well, i hope they ship this, 'cause i hate finger prints, scratches, etc.
Btw, one last question...
If, one day i break my screen, Motorola changes it to me? Or is better to buy a new tab?
Thanks a lot.

I think Motorola would change your screen but it would cost you a bit of money. But be careful, keep it in a case, and it should be ok. I don't know where Steinheil ships. I agree that the screen protectors that reduce glare and fingerprints are great!
Hi,
I am an avaid htc desire fan and think I am looking for a android tablet. I really like the apps available to me on the htc, and do a bit of app development/rom. What I really would like is a cheap android tablet, that runs everything that the htc desire has (I could probably lose telephony). It would have to be possible to root the tablet, and flash it.
I would only need a modest size touch screen, but a camera/vid would be good. Oh yes if possible it must have a reasonable battery life also.
Does such a device exist (yet)? If not whats the nearest available. I have looked around the internet but have never really been convinced that the reviews are that good. I know there are real fellow nerd/techyheads here so I would value your ideas.
I have no hands on experience of a tablet at all.
Kindle fire.

Thanks,
Thats given me at least something to focus on.
I've picked up a couple of 'Scroll Essentials' 7" tablets for the kids for xmas, running vanilla 2.3
omfg they're slow! Think i need to wait until some custom roms are around.
Can't really moan for 70 quid though!
You could search Ebay for a cheap used tablet .
Which tablets are rootable
Hi All,
thanks for the responses to date, but im still confused. Are tablets generally rootable, if so what methods are available?
I can find little info on rooting them. I have heard that the kindle fire is rootable, but
thanks
I would really preffere a rooted tabled with a camera/vid device.
