[Q] Need help with sd card not mounting - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I want to thank all of the developers for making my xoom still relevant and much better.
I do however need some serious help, as my xoom is pretty much useless at the moment. Yesterday, I flashed the alpha version of 4.2 from the xoom android development section on my everest xoom 3g. Since then, I have not been able to mount sd card. It appears on my laptop and in storage on the device.
I have flashed 3 different recvoeries in the hopes that one would mount my sd car, but all have failed. I just need to be to mount the sd card in order to flash a new rom.
I am not sure what the problem is.
I really hope someone can help me.

[Q] Xoom Micro SD Issues

Hi All,
I searched the Xoom Q&A and could not find any thread on anyine having issues with their Wifi Xoom recognizing a Micro SD card. I cannot work out how to get it to recogixe it.
Anyone got any suggestions or experienced the same issue?
have you unlocked, rooted, or installed custom kernel? that is where you need to start. the tiamat kernel has support for SD card. make sure you read the threads very well about the tiamat or cybertronix kernels to understand the type of SD support they provide.
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013 for the kernel. look in the dev section of the xoom forums for a guide on how to root.
Thanks!
I have not rooted the Xoom yet, do i assume that the Micro SD card will nt work straight out of the box? (if so that is very frustrating!!!)

Yeah, unfortunately that's the case - there is no Micro SD support out of the box, but will be enabled "in a future Motorola update"... Of course, who knows when that will be.
I am only guessing, but I assume there will be a new kernel (tiamat?) supporting the SD card based on 3.1 relatively soon, but again that will take rooting, etc.
I got the xoom going into the fact that the Micro SD Card wasn't going to be working. I think (and I'm just guessing here) that Motorola is waiting until they released the 4G update before allowing for the Micro SD Card to work.
Now, if you root and install Tiamat then you'll need to make sure you have a sdcard2 in your /sdcard/ directory. You'll get a directory of /external/ which is where your Micro SD Card is located (at least, last time I checked anyways) and the SD Card does work with the Tiamat kernal.

[Q] question about partitioning ns4g...

since the ns4g doesnt have a external sd card, can you still partition the internal sd card? if so can someone point in the direction of how to do it and what settings to set it at? and what are the benefits of it if there is. i am running the latest Miui rom as well. i do have cwm 3.1.0.1 , so any help will be great.
thank you

[Q] Xoom is not seeing my microsd card AS a microsdcard

All right, so i recently purchased a wi-fi only xoom from a friend of mine and i'm having a bit of trouble getting it to read my microsd card properly. He had rooted the device previously and immediately lost microsd support.
I recently flashed Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.2.1 - Moray and figured that would fix the problem. Of course, it didn't. So I downloaded Androzip and through a bit of digging have come to the conclusion that my microsd card (according to androzip) is not my sd card at all. It is, in fact a folder named "sdcard" within the Xoom's internal memory. According to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933 my sd card should be in mnt/external1
Only problem is it isn't showing up.
When i go into settings/storage it shows my 8 gig card, i just can't seem to do anything with it. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Where to begin...?
Yes, tablets generally use non-removable flash memory for internal storage (hence your internal "sdcard") and additionally, the Xoom has a slot for up to a 32GB external micro sdcard, which should be found (if installed) at mnt/external1, on the same directory level as sdcard.
If you are rooted you should have the ability, through a root app like Root Explorer, to navigate right to mnt/external1. You can mount R/W access and write to the micro sdcard. If you have installed a custom rom/kernel that supports usb host mode, you can also use a usbOTG cable with an app like Drive Mount or USB OTG Watcher and access a thumb drive or a large HDD.
I really appreciate the response.
Root Explorer is the only one of those suggestions that I'm familiar with...could you possibly link me to a guide or maybe give, me an idea of how to get that accomplished?
I assume you are still trying to gain access to your micro sdcard (we can get to usb host mode later).
If you have downloaded Root Explorer, open it and it should say that superuser granted root permission, then you want to navigate to the root directory, find mnt, find external1 and you should find your files there. In the top left corner of the screen you should see "Mounted as r/o and Mount R/W" and you can choose the latter and then you should be able to copy and paste to and from your micro sdcard.
That's fantastic.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your help.

Anytime, I'm happy to help.
I figured this was kind of up the same alley that my co worker is experiencing. He recently got his xoom back from motorola and I got some information from him that might be helpful to my situation.
cdma_n_03.1a.5p ltedc_u_05.19.00
android 3.2.2
build: hlk75d
The xoom is not showing any external sd card, he is using astro file manager. He is not rooting the unit, he is going to keep it pretty much factory fresh, as he wants to use it's tools for display and selling. so I'm attempting to give him as much help as I can.
I'd like to give my buddy some good info to help him out, I think he's gonna have to, and probably should just call verizon and explain his problem, but I hope I might be able to help him out. Thanks and if any other information is needed, please ask, I can get it for assistance.

Since I don't have a stock, unrooted 4G upgraded Xoom to play with it's a bit hard to give guidance on this. I can only say that with the HC3.2 update, external sdcard support came to the stock OS, so it should be there at mnt/external1 (I think) and this should be on the same directory level as the internal sdcard (internal storage with all the app, etc). If he's not rooted, he won't be able to use apps that have root permissions, which will limit how deep into the file system he can go. But the micro sdcard should be there.
Maybe his best bet is to try to talk to support at Verizon...see what they say.I'm curious to know....
Thanks for the reply. i believe he is here in the office now and Ill have him check and reply shortly.

Try installing "Disk Usage" from the market. It will list the current storage devices on your tablet. That's how I found where my sdcard was mounted.
Speedily sent from CM7 Beta
The disk usage app worked. Picked it right up. Thanks button pressed. Have a happy Monday.

Had xoom for a month. NOT ROOTED! Actually don't know how to do it or what the benefits are! I need to be able to access my flash drives & external hard drives. Drive mount states that I must be rooted! Is there anything out there I can use that doesn't require my to be rooted? Using Honeycomb 3.2.

[Q] Trying to flash ICS to HD2 HELP!!!

Hi all. I'm flashing from Froyo to ICS, using NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.1. I've flashed new radio, MAGLDR etc... with no issues, but when I've come to actually flash the ROM, my SD Card has chosen this second to give up on me. It wouldn't transfer any files etc... using the MAGLDR USB mass storage mode, and now refuses to format it.
So, I assume the SD card is screwed (unless there's some weird setting I've missed?) - basically, my phone obviously won't boot into anything now, it's half past midnight and I don't have any more SD cards on me.
How can I flash this ROM using a bootloader? Is that possible? I vaguely recall using a Bootloader to flash to Froyo from WinMo, rather than an SD card.
Any ideas? I need to get this running very soon, so my phone will work.
Cheers in advance.
(also, I did a search, but I couldn't find an answer. Sorry if it has been answered already).
Alternatively, does anyone know of a NAND ROM with a daf.exe loader? Any will do, just so I can get my phone functional until I get a new SD card.
Thanks.
Fixed it, by going into clockworkmod, partitioning the card, formatting it within CWM, mounting the SD card, then mounting USB storage. Seeeeeems to have worked.
So, feel free to delete. That said, would still be interested in finding an alt. solution to this.

Well I'm thinking I will restore from backup but guess what I can't because clockwork can't see the sd card so I'm kinda stuck here. I think this is a phone's internal memory card not the micro sd card. Am I right?

Oh well today I had some free time so I sat down and tried to look for fix, turns out it is was external micro sd issue which failed.
Phone was setup to use external card. So after I told phone go and use internal memory rebooted and all good, inserted smaller micro sd card, just to have some additional memory and all is good. So here you go if you will have something similar going with your phone maybe that will help you.
how did you tell the phone to use internal memory? i'm running across this same problem where my external sd card is not being mounted or read
