You don't pick a rom based on what carrier, you base it on the phone model. For example this section of xda is for the skyrocket (USA name) or the sghi727r (Canadian name). It's the sim card that denotes the carrier.

I will TRY flash 727(ATT) to 727R(Rogers)

Hello
I used ATT i727 in South korea.
ATT ROM have too many bloatware and can't use wifi hotspot(its only applied on ATT SIM or ATT network) and can't select
WCDMA Only network mode.
SO I decide rogers rom flash on my ATT i727.
I headr that SGH-i727 and SGH-I727R are perfect same hardware.
But....I am very afraid my phone will be bricked.
I think ODIN solve a problem... I hope...ODIN GOD please help me.
Am I mad? hehe
i think quite a lot of people have already tried that. So it shouldn't have any problem.
Good information!!
Thanks athris.
This ROM is based on Rogers, and works great. I've been on it for a month or so and haven't had any issues

Thanks for all information.
I just changed my skyrocket to Rogers rom via odin.
But....custom rom count +1 increased.
I already forgive free 1year warranty because korea samsung won't get International samsung phones.
Rogers rom allow any carrier sim using wifi tethering.
I think Rogers more stable than att rom..

a friend of mine just got some galaxy 4g device(i have no idea which model is it) from USA and he told me that he is unable to use it here in India due to its carrier's lock.
is there any way to bypass it?

Search in galaxy 4g section you'll find a way, I think it will be a custom rom

Most american phones have a carrier lock, meaning they won't work without the sim of the original carrier...
The model number you can find in about phone...and then search around for the phones forum...
Unlocking the phone would allow him to use it here in india...(hopefully)

I agree with charlieb620 I remember reading that it had both gsm and
CDMA/Lte radios

It's possible, but it's agreed you're better off selling the phone and buying one that's more compatible since I believe it was confirmed that you won't get very good data speeds - at least that was the word in the last thread I read.

variant

How do I know if my verizon galaxy s3 is a variant?

Settings >about phone> phone model
If it's sch-I535 it's this one.

I knew how to do that, but I didn't know that SCH-I535 meant it was a variant. I assume the "I" means international as I noticed my phone is unlocked from Verizon and will work in GSM and CDMA/LTE mode.
Whats the model of the non variant version?
This article says I should be able to downgrade my SCH-I535 but says it won't work on the variant.
To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be SCH-I535!
Do not use the procedures discussed here on any other Galaxy S3 (including the Galaxy S3 variant at T-Mobile, US-Cellular, AT&T, Verizon and other International variants) or any other device of Samsung or any other company. You have been warned!

This is why I am wondering if I have variant. I want to downgrade to 4.1.2 but there seems to be conflicting information that I can't do this because of a locked bootloader.

That article is wrong, you can't downgrade to 4.1.2 on this phone model from 4.3.
I guarantee if you try to do that on this phone you will brick it.
