I knew how to do that, but I didn't know that SCH-I535 meant it was a variant. I assume the "I" means international as I noticed my phone is unlocked from Verizon and will work in GSM and CDMA/LTE mode.
Whats the model of the non variant version?
This article says I should be able to downgrade my SCH-I535 but says it won't work on the variant.
To make sure your device is eligible with this, you must first confirm its model no. in ‘About device’ option under Settings. Another way to confirm model no. is by looking for it on the packaging box of your device. It must be SCH-I535!
Do not use the procedures discussed here on any other Galaxy S3 (including the Galaxy S3 variant at T-Mobile, US-Cellular, AT&T, Verizon and other International variants) or any other device of Samsung or any other company. You have been warned!

This is why I am wondering if I have variant. I want to downgrade to 4.1.2 but there seems to be conflicting information that I can't do this because of a locked bootloader.

That article is wrong, you can't downgrade to 4.1.2 on this phone model from 4.3.
I guarantee if you try to do that on this phone you will brick it.

VZW S3 Using Tmobile Rom

Basically the question is, What would would happen if I flashed a tmobile s3 rom on a vzw s3?
best case scenario, it doesn't work, worst case scenario, you hard brick your device
I've flashed a t mobile rom and worked fine except for data.

What rom is it you want to flash? There must be something closely similar already for the Verizon variant no?

It's possible, but it's agreed you're better off selling the phone and buying one that's more compatible since I believe it was confirmed that you won't get very good data speeds - at least that was the word in the last thread I read.

Samsung should of done a developer edition...

I think Samsung dropped the ball on this one..They should of follow HTC and done a universal world GS4 developer edtion with 64gb+SD card. With bootloader unlocked. And works with LTE ATT and Tmobile also..
who knows that might be in the tow too
Bootloader is always unlocked on Galaxy devices. Rooting is also really easy.
No need for Developer Edition.

Engadget says bootloader is locked. Locked on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon at the very least. Judging by how Sprint's GS4 has a locked bootloader, I'd be inclined to say that many, many more models are locked out of the box.
Root should be easy but I have a strong feeling that custom ROMs/kernels won't be nearly as easy.

I hope not. I need someone with an international i9500 or i9505 to post an image of their download mode text. If Write Protection is on, word needs to get out fast and devs need to jump on it because we will have a situation like the VZW GS3 on our hands.

What is the unlocked G920T?

Best Buy sells an unlocked version of the G920T - http://goo.gl/bk4ukE
It's not T-Mobile. It's unlocked and has no carrier bloat - just the usual Samsung stuff. It shows "4G" for LTE. (Edit: Correction - after the OTA referenced below, it shows H+ and LTE)
It came with 5.1.1 out of the box, build ending in COG3.
It had a 272mb software update immediately available that took it up to the build ending in COK1 and added the Android Security Patch Level line showing 2015-11-01.
Just curious how this model fits into the other unlocked models (f, i, etc.). Did Samsung simply take the T-Mobile model and sell a variant unlocked with no T-Mobile influence?
Sorry to bump this but I'm seeing a few more of these in the wild now and trying to figure it out. It's gotta have the same internals as the T-Mobile variant since the model number is the same, I'm assuming anyway? The full model is SM-G920TZKAX, but the packaging and phone just shorten it to T. The T-Mobile model is SM-G920TZDATMB. I guess knowing what the letters after G920T mean would be helpful.
From what I've read it appears to be a unlocked version of the T-Mobile variant. Can't find much information about it.
I purchased the unlocked version from Best Buy yesterday for $450. Rooted it and could not be happier.

What method did you use? I'm concerned about doing any mods due to not having the right software to flash back to (which we don't have right?).
I used the follow root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/galaxy-s6-root-5-1-1-variants-t3147074
As for going back to stock, you can always use smart switch, or ODIN back to stock rom.

I just bought this yesterday as an open box for $380. I was worried that is wouldn't have LTE band 17 for AT&T as the normal 920T is listed as missing this band. The Best Buy version does have band 17 and I'm connected on it now. Very happy with the phone so far.

you can also see the specs for the phone on Samsung's website. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G920TZKAXAR
4G FDD LTE: B1(2100), B2(1900),B3(1800),B4 (AWS),B5(850),B7(2600),B12(700),B17(700),B20(800)
Firmware?
Love the phone with no carrier bloatware, would have preferred 64GB but I can make due. I would like to root it but not without having factory firmware to fall back on. Even though it's a 920T it's has no T-Mobile apps so I'm pretty sure I can't load a T-Mobile ROM on it. If anyone runs across formware for a SM-G920TZKAXAR PLEASE let us know. TIA
Does this work with Samsung Pay?
Has anyone tried getting this to work with Samsung Pay? I saw on a Slickdeals thread that it will not work ... would love confirmation.
Also, and I know this is a very, very slight chance anyone will know this, but -- will this work with my old, granfathered T-Zones data plan?

Yes. You can load T-Mobile firmware onto it. You just get all the TMobile extra stuff. Thats the same "unlocked" model sold by Rent A Center.

Currently this variant is awaiting official upgrade, most nougat roms are not going to work fully as call audio is broken, you may need to wait till official update is released to have all functions.

So is it true that S8 cannot be cross carrier flashed?

I have been reading about people who get their s8 network unlocked and try to flash to a different carrier firmware only to find that it does not change but stays on the original.. did samsung block this or is odin outdated? Theories??
I just got my unlock code for my ATT S8+ too and was sad to see that this may be true.

I wish it was possible but I've been told I'm just not smart enough to figure it out. I would have thought in two weeks we would have seen proof of people doing it by now.
I believe we're waiting for a newer version of Odin before we will be able to successfully flash. There's a userdata file I believe that we need to flash as well.

I've read that on several threads after they flashed everything using the current odin. How soon or often does odin usually get updated after a new phone comes out?

On the S7e it took someone making a modified ODIN to get it to work. Was very handy once completed though, but the normal ODIN could not do it.
Has anyone tried the modified Odin? I know it's linked in at least one of the Tmobile S7e threads.

Yes it does, people are using it to flash Canadian firmware on the US models for less bloatware.
Also all the US models are "u " models and others have been successfully flashing other carriers firmware with regular odin.
The information is out (and here on xda where I have seen it) there guys...you just have to search for it

LR&D Carrier Switch/Root Snapdragon
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=3597473&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
Somewhere around page 45 start reading.
However this makes it generic Canadian firmware. So no volte or wifi calling. I'm guessing we're still a few weeks off to be able to move from US carrier to US carrier.
The userdata odin change is the important part (as well as using the Odin that doesn't check firmware hash).
I'm going to go Canadian this eve and then reflashing with my T-Mobile SIM in back to the 955u firmware. Which I'm guessing won't work. But we'll see!
