a friend of mine just got some galaxy 4g device(i have no idea which model is it) from USA and he told me that he is unable to use it here in India due to its carrier's lock.
is there any way to bypass it?

Search in galaxy 4g section you'll find a way, I think it will be a custom rom

Most american phones have a carrier lock, meaning they won't work without the sim of the original carrier...
The model number you can find in about phone...and then search around for the phones forum...
Unlocking the phone would allow him to use it here in india...(hopefully)

I have had an Inspire for some time now, and I rooted it with one of the original kits from here way back when. I cannot remember the specific kit.
I have a hunch that the kit may have included a sim unlock, but I cannot recall fully.
I would like to confirm my phone is unlocked, as I will be travelling to Europe soon and want to use a prepaid sim (I am aware the Inspire will only be able to use EDGE data). Is there some method to do this? I am aware that you can try a sim from a different carrier, but I am in heavy Verizon country, and as far as I know, my friends all have Verizon (no sim cards) or AT&T.
I tried a sim card from an old Cingular phone. The Inspire didn't complain, but it didn't connect to the cell network, either.
The very nice post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352 is a root method with sim unlock. Is there a way I can just perform the sim unlock, since the phone is already rooted? I would have asked this simple question there, but the forum system will not let me .
All the rooting methods had simunlock, ur should also be unlocked.

its rooted but now the wifi is acting weird .. it said its connected but i couldnt do anything on the web..any solution?

Can i get internet to work using a gophone sim on a skyrocket? I've tried on a galaxy note (international unlocked) and it works great, tried a few apn settings on the skyrocket but it doesnt work.

What i THINK is that any phone that comes out of AT&T's clutches are in their system (both imei and with carrier iq) so once it you pop a sim into it and the information is matched to a device in their system they know what can and can't be allowed for the device. With international devices they don't have those IMEIs (which is why they always want the imei from you so they can match it in their system)
Your note is international...they can't "match or track it" so to their system it's just another random dumb phone
Your skyrocket is a known LTE/HSPA+ device to the system so it says no cheap data for you

Doesn't seem to matter. I successfully unlocked my phone but I get the same result when I put my GoPhone SIM card in.

Hey guys. Ive looked before asking and cant find a answer. So im asking here and hope this is the right place. I bought a Motorola ATRIX 2. It is on att. I use Verizon. I need to unlock it so i can use on Verizon. I have rooted a aria and a inspire so not totally new to this. Is a root needed? Just lookin for a guide to unlock this for free or for cheap if a unlock code must be bought. Thx for the help!

Ok so i got it unlocked. I called att and gave them the imei number and she gave me the code free. I bought a fresh sim card from Verizon and put in it. Now verizon wont activate the sim card. I cant figure out how to get my phone number on the sim. I was using a iphone 4 that didn't. Have a sim is why i bought a fresh sim. How do u guys get unlocked phones to work on verizon?

Verizon is CDMA, AT&T is a GSM network....so....it's not gonna work
(as far as I'm aware)
Hi,
I spent last night getting my t-mobile galaxy s4 to work on ATT. I did a lot of research on the subject and it wasn't that difficult at all. I bought the phone off of EBAY.
I was able to accomplish this from all of the tools here and a little research. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335109
The first thing i did was root the phone and install CWM. I then used the sim unlock found in the link above. The next step i took (because i like custom roms on my phone) was to install TASK650's AOKP rom. I flashed the rom and followed his instructions.
After the restart, I went through the welcome screen and shut the phone down. I put my sim in and started the phone. I noticed i was getting the H, but no LTE. This led me to more research. The fix was easy once I found it. The APN needs to be pointed to the ATT phone option. It defaults to wap.cingular. After about 5 minutes and a reboot the LTE appeared and after the speed tests confirmed.
This is not a guide. I am just sharing my experience. If you do this please do your own research as you can do damage to your phone. There are risks involved, flash and modify your phone at your own risk.
Just wondering, why did you get a tmobile s4 to use with att? Normally the att version can be found for cheaper price

I am confused here, what is it you were trying to accomplish? running a att rom on your tmo device? Because you say you have a tmo phone.
Why go thru all that, when this rom is already setup to work on tmo with the tmo apn settings already setup for you.

Do you new people just go and see a rom you like, in any forum, and do not look in your devices forum and flash it? if so, your are asking to brick your phones.

Sadly he wants the unlocked boot loader that the T-Mobile s4 has I am miserable with my locked I337 .... also the T-Mobile variant has unlocked aws bands I had to flash something in my radio to get aws bands on T-Mobile using my AT&T s4

Doing so does not unlock it ..... just bypass it .. it's like wearing a police uniform but your not ...

Check out the s2 forum or any other galaxy forum. They all have the same method to SIM unlock the phone. Most likely that method will also work with the tab.
