Newbee Question - HTC Sensation

Hi guys.
I want to have my sensation rooted and s-off, so I will be able to install a custom rom on my device. I'm running on stock ics 4.0.3 hboot 1.27.0000 and firmware 3.33.401.53. I don't want to use the htcdev, because I don't want to loose the warranty. I found the "wire tricks method", but it looks to risky for me. Also I want to mention, that my motherboard was replaced just a few weeks ago. Any suggestions how could I get my Sensation to get rooted/s-offed?
Thank you for your help and cooperation

this thread should be opened in Q&A thread.nevemind
with your hboot version the only way to S-OFF your device is using the juopunutbear method which requires the wire trick
there is no other way to do it.see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
otherwise you can use only the htcdev unlock method to unlock the bootloader and then root
but in this case you might have a problem because you have replaced your motherboard which means that it cames with different imei than the original one
if i remember there is a guide for replaced motherboards(different imei)

The wire trick isn't hard at all. I did it with a paperclip. It takes some tries to get it right though (I always gave up after 5 times, so it took me a couple of nights ). Just make sure you have a backup of your sd card.

If you are using 4Ext recovery you can flash a custom ROM with S-ON.
In 4Ext go to Tools and scroll to the bottom and enable smart flash.

[Q] Is it possible to completly remove Revolutionary from my phone?

I've checked every possible tag in my mind about this and couldn't find one for Sensation.
Is it possible to revet back to the original state before the Revolutionary. Is it possible to completely uninstall the Revolutionary from my phone?
I'm not talking about the s-off -> s-on
I'm talking about returning the phones software to its original state.
Like it is never installed in the first place.
Thank you.
It's funny because last weekend I wanted to do exactly the same thing.
What I learnt was to go from S-OFF back to S-ON can be quite fiddly and tricky, abd if you mess it up rub the risk of bricking your phone.
In order to get the stock Rom, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
Now it's just a case of finding which one you are, and your ril and radio.
Good luck
Thank you for your answer. But this is not what I want I can do this already but when I check the bootloader I see the pink "Locked" and it tells me that Revolutionary is still there.
I can go to S-On without any trouble that is not what I am asking.
What I am asking is to be able to get rid of every little bit of coding about the Revolutionary and return my phone to its original bootloader software.
If is says locked then ur good since that's what it said when you bought the phone.

When I get my phone there wasn't such writing. It is the product of Revolutionary.
So it is still there. I want to be able to get rid of it.
I'm not asking this about the warranty purposes. I'm asking this because I've realized that after using Revolutionary I can't install any app from market via wireless no matter what I did. Strangely it is fine to surf and download via mobile.
I know this because this is the Second Sensation I've faced having this problem and I remember some user Leviathan(maybe wrong?) talking about wifi dieing after Revolutionary.
So what I need is to get rid of it and be able to install original bootloader(maybe bootloader is not the right term here I don't know).

i am saying that you probably have a modified hboot, because of the revolutionary sOFF, just like alpharev. you need to flash stock hboot to get everything back, hboot flashing is dangerous, if it goes wrong youll have a brick.

[Q] Root for apps, not new ROM

Hi folks,
I have read a number of guides and threads on the forum but I can't work out if any apply to what I want to do. I'm sure the info may be there but its not clear to me.
Basically I want root on my Desire S so that I can use aps like LUKS Manager, Orbot and so on. I don't want to install a new ROM as I'm happy with my what I have at the moment.
My hboot is 2.00.0002 and my Radio is 3822.10.08.04_M
Is what I want to do possible? If not and I have to install a new ROM is it possible to find one that matches what I have at the moment? How do I identitfy what that is?
Thanks in advance for all the help!

everything is possible. Just follow the guides in this forum how to root your device (I recommend not to use htcdev). You don't have to install a new ROM.
But my personal opinion is to use a custom ROM, since they often have much more possibilities for customizing and a lot modifications for speed and performance. Are you still using stock ROM with sense 3.0 ?
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Hi, thanks for the reply. I've only accepted the updates provded by my network so I guess thats the stock ROM?
Yep, its HTC Sense 3
I must be missing something basic because from all the guides i've read you have to install a new ROm to keep root?

Yes, it's stock right now.
At first you need to s-off your device (caution, you are about to void your warranty). You can do that using the revolutionary tool. Then you have to root, which can be done with superoneclick.
(edit: at this point you need to install a recovery like 4ext or cwm)
Root will not be undone when installing a
New ROM, neither do you need to install a new ROM. But I recommend to use a ROM with sense 3.5, it's much better.
You can find tutorials for everything I'm talking about right here in the forums.
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Ah, thats great, thanks. I didn't get that superoneclick could allow you to keep root.
Much appreciated.
I'll also look into the Sense 3.5. thanks again!
I forgot to mention: after rooting,
You need to install a custom recovery like 4ext or cwm. It's for backing up your system and flashing roms and updates and anything else you need
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Ok, so if I get s-off and then keep root by using superoneclick does that mean that I won't be able to receive updates through my network?

If your s-off and rooted the installer will not install the update (never tried cause I dont use stock rom) - but there are alway newest rooted stock roms here on xda and you can update your system manually. Most of the time before your carrier sends you the "official" update.
But yes, you have to do it by yourself.

But I think if you s-off and root and DO NOT install any other ROM you might still be able to download official updates for your stock ROM over the air
Sent from my Desire S using XDA App
Yes, you can use OTA (Over The Air update) ... but I think after that, you will loose your root
look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401 FAQ's No. 5
ok, went to have a go at this but it looks like getting S-Off is quite complicated as well. I'm on HBOOT 2.00.0002.
Is there a shorter route to achieving root than:
downgrade
s-off
superoneclick (for root)
install custom recovery
If there isn't now is it likely to become available in the future or is the Desire S just difficult to do this with?
If You don't want to change rom, then stay s-on, unlock bootloader with htcdev and use superoneclick.

I get that the steps might be easy enough, but there are quite a lot of them and instructions can contain loops when put together (I.e. downgrading to get root may require root in some instructionals). I do appreciate your help and advice though. I may well switch ROMs, especially in the future (I can't see myself affording a new phone any time soon!)

ok i am late but i think i can help.
first of all stop confusing the damn guy with different kinds of stuff. even i was like him before rooting my precious desire s. he will learn the advantages and disadvantages of revolutionary s-off as time passes by.
for now follow this guide as i did this (and trust me i had the same intentions as you do)
first get your adb and fastboot setup, this is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595
then go to htcdev and unlock your phone. follow the process, its easier than you think.
after your done, download superoneclick and root your phone. if you dont know much about superoneclick then search around or google it and you will find your anwsers. one more thing, htcdev will reset your phone.
sorry if i am late if you have already rooteed your phone.

Back from repair now not sure how to root

Hi all, got my phone back from repair, with the latest orange crap and newest hboot. Ive read that I need to use Juopunutbear, to the s-off, root etc, but I dont like the look of Juopunutbear, (using wire? no chance_. I found the old revolution way much safer and easy to do. How can i still do it like that? Would i need to flash the old orange ruu on the sdcard?

You can't run older ruu when SON
To have custom rom's you need to do SOFF via Juopunutbear way or htc dev unlock
The later might not work for you.. As you might got motherboard replaced..
So only solution is JB via temproot

My repair was only for dust under the screen. so i have the choice of voiding warranty via a piece of wire (visual void), or I virtually tell htc im voiding it? There must be a sneakier way?

I highly doubt it. If you're uncomfortable, you should stick with stock. It's always wise to not do it if you aren't sure of it..
If I had steady hands it wouldnt be a problem, Im a flashaholic, hate stock lol x
Maybe if you read over it a few times you might get a bit more comfortable with it? What I do is even print out the guide so I don't miss a step.this has really helped me in the past when doing new things, I know it may sound silly but its nice to have a printed guide infront of you incase you get in a pinch. This way all the steps are right there in front of you. This is what I do. Just a suggestion. If you DO decide to give it a shot then maybe this might help. I wish you the best in which ever you decide. I just wanted to share this with you because having a printed guide has really helped me out in the past. Good luck and best wishes to you!

If your Hboot still says *locked* you cannot flash a recovery.
Please get the correct Hboot from here & follow flashing instructions: http://unlimited.io/hboot-downloads/
You can then proceed to flashing recovery.
Right done that even though the green line never goes to the end my hboot no longer says locked. I put the recovery zip on the sd, booted into bootloader said yes, completed and rebooted, but no custom recovery there?

If he is on gb he doesnt need to unlock, he can straight s-off it and retain his warranty, the guide to do that totally works. Unlocking is totally unnecessary and is just going the extra road to s-off.
Your post is only if someone who has upgraded to official ics and wans to s-off, which is not possible as the person first needs to unlock.

yes tried all of the above, several times. tried newest drivers, and 3.0.0.007, messed around with several usb cables, changed computers. device not found error every time. i think the phone is stuffed. will send it to mobiletechvideos in Texas. it's a 50 dollar repair. will be a bit more careful next time.

hi, my phone has been recovered and back working. service centre returned the phone with locked bootloader, s-off and hboot 1.29.
i'd like to get back to Android Revolution HD 6.8.0, can i just root and flash a recovery, or have i to unlock the bootloader again on htv dev? can i use the backups i made earlier on hboot 1.27?
thanks again.

you received the phone with LOCKED bootloader and SOFF ?
then before doing anything ..i would suggest you to ..check whether the phone is soff or not (I've seen 3 cases at-least where the phone showed soff (after the phone got back from service center) but its not actually soff and people bricked their phone again trying to flash stuff) ... to check soff status go to my soff guide (link in my signature)..try the controlbear soff NO HTC_DEV unlock one ..if the phone is properly soff then the controlbear says soff and exits ..otherwise your phone is not soff ..
also you cant do HTC-DEV unlock (motherboard got replaced so IMEI changed) as IMEI changed and the unlock procedure fails ..the only way is JB SOFF

hi again, thanks for the heads up. i've run controlbear and confirmed the phone is s-off. during the process it asked to install modified juopunutbear hboot, which i said no. should i have? also phone imei is same as before (no motherboard replacement) so whats my next move, i'm a little cautious as I've bricked phone already once!! thanks ganeshp.

yes install juopunutbear hboot via controlbear and if that didnt went successfully ..install patched revoultionary hboot (at the end of first post i think) from kohr-ah firmware thread present in sensation development section.
then you cna continue with custom recovery flashing and then custom rom (if you want you can backup your current stock rom too from the custom recovery before trying the new rom )
