Welp I am one of the stupid ones and installed MIUI on my Infuse, and like everyone else, I'm stuck on the boot screen. I looked at the post on the same topic and tried to do it but couldn't get it to work probably becuase the computer says that its an Unknown device instead of a Samsung device.
So my question is what do I do now that my computer doesn't recongize the phone as a device anymore?
Thanks to all that can give help.

And lesson learned - never install a ROM from another phone.
Yeah I know that now. Foolish mistake I know I shouldn't have made.
But, I have tried using that but when I connect the phone to the computer it shows to be an unknown device and Odin doesn't pick it up at all. My problem is, is that the computer doesn't recognize it as an Android Device anymore. Is downloading the drivers from Samsung going to help?
I'll have to leave that to someone else - I use Heimdall on a Linux box, I've never flashed from Windows.
Oh, ok. Well thanks for your help .
I fixed my problem. What I had to do was get another computer that doesn't have the Samsung Drivers or Kies installed and then install them. Once that was done Odin found the device and I was able to restore it.
So there's a tip for anyone who can't get their device to be recognized by the computer or Odin itself.
Or just uninstall/delete those drivers?

i have started to do this to since i got the infuse. ill tell you i dont miss driver issues one bit! linux/bsd/mac/whatever rock as long as you have supported hardware and that is becoming less and less of a problem these days.
re: Now Stuck
You need to try and pull the battery out and put it back see if you can get the phone into "download mode". If you cannot get it into download mode by doing that or using the up/down volume and power key combo then I would suggest that you purchase a "jig" on ebay. (they cost under $10 bucks shipped).
Here is the ebay link for the jig:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Galaxy-...0563626533?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item20ba3eba25
With a jig all you would need to do is to remove battery, plug the little jig into the usb port of phone and replace the battery, then wait 5 seconds or so and the phone will be in download mode allowing you to use Odin3 and flash back to "stock rom" to start with..
Best if you did that using the "Ultimate Unbrick" stock froyo rom after that
you can install infuse 1.5 custom rom or Bionix or the defused custom rom or any other rom.
Here is the link for the Ultimate Unbrick:

Good luck.

I tried that but it didn't work on my computer, but that's just my computer that could work for someone else. If that doesn't work though, you can get another computer and install the drivers on them and that should work.

Where are you trying to uninstall the drivers from? I have windows 7 and went to device manager or whatever and took it off there. Then reinstalled kies, worked perfect after.

HI all,
So yes I have already tried to google, and look through other posts but cant find anything that is my particular situation, heres what happened, Infuse was running on ZEUS 6.1 perfectly, I decided to install ROM][2.3.6]SGH-I997 UCLB3[Rooted, Deodexed, Busybox, Zipaligned, I followed all the instructions, installed ROM, disabled VooDoo lagfix and then the stock kernal, after that the phone just didnt come back to life, the result is currently on the SAMSUNG logo, I can go into recovery just download mode but my USB is not detected either, when I install the drivers it doesnt do anything, tried KIES and other drivers from SAMSUNG, also removed USB ports, restarted, and tried other pc's and laptops and same USB error, even tried on linux, no luck, can anyone please help, I love this phone and the ROM, I have no idea why I attempted to do this but need help.
Thanks all[/FONT]
This happened to me lately but I was on stock froyo. Seems like my usb cable was for charging only. When I bought one that said it was for charging and data, the Infuse was recognized instantly. I am a noob here, but hope this is all of your problem.
Yep, thats what I'm starting to wonder, if its the cable, I am using the microUSB cable that came with the phone from SAMSUNG, never was an issue before, would connect and trasnfer data without a problem, also tried a few blackberry cables no luck, the crazy part is I cant even go to recovery mode, it only goes to download mode, wondering if I can copy some files to the SDcard to boot off with.
If you try everything and it does not work, contact me I know a guy you can send it to for it to be unbricked. When he unbricked mine, he noticed the usb controller somehow glitched and can never be fixed, resulting in a whole new device needed (he tried replacing the usb hub, did no good). Thats what happened to me, make sure to try everything first though.
So after trying a dozen cables, nothing seems to work, I should have known this when the OS was still on ZEUS and I attempted to connect via USB which I received USB not recognized message, I have tried the same SAMSUNG cable for a blackberry and it installs perfectly, so its not the cable, my understanding the USB port on the Infuse is bad, is there a way to boot into recovery of an SDcard so that I can install ZEUS back? I only have "download" mode working, recovery for some reason does not come-up, I am really trying to avoid throwing this phone in the garbage, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Clarification?
You can get into download mode but Odin doesn't see the phone? I don't think you have said anything about trying to do anything to the phone in download mode.

That's exactly it, I can get into download mode just fine, once I connect to pc I get USB device unrecognized, although the drivers are installed, so the crazy thing is I have been on here since the days of Infused downloading and updating ROMS back and forth, never posted anything, even when I had an issue back when, I was able to go into recovery and do what I need to do to bring it back to life, almost felt like an expert given the amazing advice here, never had an issue till now, please help.
I had accidentally set my Infuse in an "almost" empty cup, not realizing that there was still about an inch of lemonade at the bottom. This unfortunatley screwed my USB recognigtion to my computer. It can charge, but is no longer capable of transferring files via USB. There is, however, Kies Air. This has been such a lifesaver!!! You can transfer files to and from your phone, and I have transferred Zeus and Aeon to my SD card through Kies Air. I installed Aeon on my phone no problem and it is working flawlessly You only need to download the Kies Air app to your phone. No special drivers, apps, or software is needed for your computer. If anyone has any questions on how to do this, you can PM me or just post on here.

I have had this problem a lot too. I believe that the problem is with the cable from Samsung. It's crap. Just by chance I noticed that my friend's Kindle cable had the same usb plug. I tried that and it hasn't disconnected once.

turns out it's the "CDC Serial" driver that wont install. Any ideas on how I might install that driver?
Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696822
theshowman "I just used *#7284# and changed back the USB->Modem to USB->PDA and now ADB works."
Worked for me when I was trying to upgrade to stock ICS from GB
edit: when he says "i used" he means, open up the dialer, type exactly what is says * # 7 2 8 4 #
There's a bunch of other "weird" codes like this also. Go google em. I don't know the actual name for them. Saw a list referring to them as "Samsung hack codes."
Try this one for fun. Open Dialer, enter *#0228# , Battery status should pop up.
I actually read that post and already tried it. I've tried just about everything. Even just installed my old vista 32bit on an old drive. Just cause I heard the samsung drivers didn't work well with 64bit. That didn't work either... I'm just about at my wits end
Is there another way to get a stock ICS on my phone? Last time i Rooted was years ago. And i had to connect my phone to the computer. Which isn't possible for me it seems like. Is there a way to put a rom on my phone without the use of a computer?

Hi, I tried reflashing zeus on my infuse after getting tired of AEON, but instead I ended up flashing cm7 onto my phone, now i cant get it past the samsung screen. Its not like the infinite boot loops where it flashes on and then resets, it just sits at the samsung screen. I have already tried deleting all caches reflashing to ZEUS, AEON, and CM7, nothing works, i cannot get past the samsung screen. Luckily i can still get to the recovery menu which means something still is working.
My question is, what do I have to do? I dont mind going back to stock but I dont know how to go about doing it. Another problem I have is that my phone cannot ( from my point of view) connect to a computer. Ever since I rooted my phone I cannot connect my phone or sd card to my computer.
Someone Please Help.

Not by a longshot.
For Heimdall, a lot of people have reported problems but the suggestion is perserverence.
First make sure you read and follow the instructions very carefully.
Try with different ports on your computer (ok, you did this one).
Try with different computers.
Try with different cords.
Perhaps unload and re-install the drivers.
Post back here what kind of things you are seeing.. which step looks like it isn't responding as expected.
If you really can't connect using Heimdall (and I can understand how hopeless that can seem... been there myself), you still have a lot of options because you said in your first post you can boot into recovery. .
That means there is a lot of stuff you can flash.
Ethereal, Aeon are good stable GB custom roms and easier to flash than the stock one.
For stock, you might try to flash dman's stock UCLB3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508619
The complicated part of dman's stock UCLB3 is the stuff in there about video I don't quite understand (*)
To get video back, you have to put the stock kernel back in (disable lagfix first!). The stock kernel will make you lose CWM but not root.
Then you can flash a custom GB kernel (Entropy's DD or Zen's Infusion) to get back CWM.
(*) Here's the part I don't understand: When we go back to custom kernel, do we still have the video or does it get lost because we no longer have the stock kernel ?
If anyone can clarify that one point, I'd be grateful.

Well heres the thing, when i first screwed up I tried flashing back to Zeus or AEon, problem was it would go through all fine and dandy and I would get happy thinking I have a phone again, but then when I rebooted it sat at the samsung screen, which i figured it would do, so I left it over night so it could set itself up like it usually does after flashing to a new rom. It sat over night and didnt move off the samsung screen, both with Aeon and Zeus.
Another thing too is that I thought if I partitioned the sd card and then worked off a fresh partition, I could get past the screen and then upartitiion and reflash the whole thing... Now my phone won't mount the sdcard, it doesnt recognize the sd or the sd-ext, tried mounting, manual mounts and everything. I even tried reformatting the external sd, to see if that would help. It didnt....
So the question is now... am I now screwed???
tl;dr... Phone cannot connect to computer to use heimdall or odin, wouldnt boot into new rom after flashing three or four times, and now the sd card wont mount... screwd :crying:
edit: It might not even be worth fixing because I think im going to get the nexus 4 on wednesday.... but I still would like to fix it if I can. Thanks guys for helping me so far through these tough times hahaha

The post from Dman predates the video and MHL-HDMI out fixes that Entropy512 provided. The current Entropy DD and Zen Infusion kernels have the same video and MHL support found in the stock UCLB3 kernel.
Note that if you are coming from a JB ROM, you need to flash an Odin or Heimdall package with a PIT file to get the stock partition config back. They can be found here:
ODIN - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260
Heimdall - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Either will return your phone to stock after which you can ODIN or Heimdall a custom kernel and flash a custom ROM. If you flash the ODIN package with root you can also use SGS Kernel Flasher to flash a new kernel zImage file.

Yup. I have used three different usb cables: Two OEM's, and one After market.
You may have an issue with your Infuse drivers on your PC.. to fix this:
1 - uninstall all existing Samsung Infuse drivers using control panel/programs and features - this would include "kies", "kies mini" and/or "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones"
2 - remove any remaining devices from control panel/device manager
2a - as part of this you may need to look at hidden devices. To do this you will need to add a system environment variable (from control panel/system/advanced) called "DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES" and set its value to "1". Then from device manager "view" menu select "show hidden devices"
2b - Look for devices under "Universal Serial Bus devices" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers" that are named "SAMSUNG USB Composite Device" or "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device" and remove
3 - you might need to reboot after removing drivers and associated devices (recommended)
4 - reinstall Samsung Infuse drivers... (do not use the link in the ODIN thread)
4a - kies mini is available here:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...ATT_I997_Infuse_4G_Kiesmini_1.0.0.11084_3.exe
or from here (downloads/software):
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SEG-I997ZKAATT
(you may have better results using the "driver only" option at the second link - the smaller of the two files. Kies can sometimes cause problems of its own).
5 - once installed and rebooted, connect your phone (booted into phone OS with USB Mass Storage mode enabled and then USB Debugging enabled) and validate connectivity using ADB or by mounting to PC as a USB storage device. Test by copying a decent sized file to/from the phone.
6 - if this works, boot into download mode and retry Odin or Heimdall packages. If you don't have Java Runtime Environment installed make sure you install that first. For Heimdall (and maybe Odin) make sure to right click the file name and run as administrator.

Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum and also new to Androids. After years of using iPhones and finally becoming fed up Apple, I've decided to try something new (please don't judge my prior smartphone selection and start posting opinions about the 2 operating systems, I do not want this thread to turn into one of the "battle of the phones" thread that I've experienced many times on iPhone forums). My friend recently got an S3 and had no use for his Galaxy S 4g, so he gave it to me so that I could try out an Android. There was one issue though, he said that the phone would not get past the Galaxy S screen and would keep re-booting itself (stuck in a boot loop). He said if I could figure out a way to fix it then it's mine.
That being said, here's my dilemma. I've tried many different methods to get the phone out of a boot loop. The first method I tried was putting the phone into restore mode and selecting the "reinstall packages" option. After this executes I get the message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
After some further research I discovered a nice little program called Odin I read a lot about Odin and how to properly use it. After trying at least 5 different methods to get the phone into download mode with no success, I purchased a jig. The jig did the trick and instantly put me into download mode, I was ecstatic and hopeful that I could now fix the phone with Odin. I connected the phone to my PC in download mode, but Odin still didn't recognize the phone (I tried many versions of Odin, 1.85, 1.87, and the most recent 3.07). I do have the latest drivers for this phone, which I downloaded from Samsung's website. The phone will charge through the computer but the computer does not recognize it otherwise and will not allow me access its mass storage (I am running Windows 7 64 bit). I have tried using a different USB cable, and I have tried to use a different PC, the other PC I used popped up with a message saying that Windows could not successfully download the drivers (that was after I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's webpage and plugged the phone into the computer). I've even tried transferring stock firmware onto an external SD card and loading it onto the phone from restore mode (is that even possible to do?). I have also tried running Odin in compatibility mode, still didn't detect the phone. I should probably also mention that Kies Mini also does not recognize the phone. I asked my friend if he ever tried rooting this phone and he said no, so I'm assuming this issue has nothing to do with a failed attempt to root.
I really want to get this phone working, but I have run out of options to try. I am hoping that someone on here has a solution for me from a similar experience. After reading through the forum, I have noticed that people on here are very helpful and also very friendly; something that I can say is very different from some of iPhone forums I've used. I apologize if there is already a similar thread to mine, I've read through many threads and none of the solutions have worked for me. I also apologize for my first post being so lengthy, I just wanted to state all of the methods that I've tried to fix this phone. Thanks for your replies.
Hi hubbs134
You have come to the right place.
First,
I suggest you read a little bit about this phone and how to put it in Recovery (by holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until you see the SGS4G splash screen) and Download modes, it will help you in the future.
You can find it all in the Wiki.
Second, use this guide to One-Click Heimdall your way to Stock KJ6 2.3.6 Gingerbread ROM (latest official ROM for this phone).
If you use this file (instead) with that guide, you will also get phone rooted, or else you will need to make another flash of a rooted kernel (as the guide suggests).
Now, if you have the official latest stock, but still want some ICS/JB lovin', if you have CWM recovery v5 (you will see the recovery info once you're in that mode), you can flash CM9/AOKP/HebMIUI/UltraGen/RemICS/CM10/Slimbin/etc. etc. etc. ROMs.
Enjoy and welcome aboard!
P.S what the @#%#$ were you doing with an iphone ?

Thanks for your reply, I have read a lot about this phone and know how to get into download and recovery mode. I tried the method you mention, however, when running the command window I get errors for both roms you suggested (i attatched a screen shot of the errors I'm getting). Do you know how I can fix these errors so that I can proceed with the rest of the tutorial? Thanks.
PS I only had an iPhone because I had yet to discover how bad a** Androids are
It sounds like you can't use Odin because of a windows issue. Try installing linux. I use ubuntu

No need to replace PC OS...
1. Uninstall all your Java versions and Samsung drivers and reboot.
2. Reinstall Java 1.7u..
3. Follow the guide, it should work.
When you reinstall the driver through Heimdall - it will appear as Gadget device.
Good luck !

I second this... This should fix your driver issues.
Thanks for both of your replies. Odin detected my friends GS3 so I know it's not a Windows issue.
itzik2sh I did what you suggested and now got the command to function properly. I am going to try and finish the tutorial, I will be back soon with results. Thanks.
The phone is in download mode with Heimdall One-click 1.3.1 running and nothing is popping up in the command window. Neither is showing that the device is connected. Any suggestions? Thanks

I forgot to mention that I can here the sound that a device was just connected to the computer via USB, and a message pops up saying USB device not recognized. When I click on the message it says "One of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
Tried a different port? Tried second different port with a different USB cable?

Ok I got the device connected and I got Zadig running, however, there is no option for "Samsung USB Composite Driver" on the drop down list, on "gadget Serial", "Gadget Serial Control (interface 0), and "1.3 HD Webcam (Interface 0)'. What should I do?
On the one-clicks, you don't actually want to use zadig. Apparently it conflicts, which is awesome for something that gets released WITH the tool.
If you're doing manual Heimdall, make sure you've told zadig to list all devices in the menus. Your phone should show up after that.
If you're using a one-click, make sure you're using a USB port on your computer where you have NOT installed zadig, Kies, or Samsung official drivers. Follow the steps in the one-click religiously, and it should cooperate.
Follow the guide %100 then Odin should work

Ok I ended up getting the phone to register in Odin. I flashed it with the stock rom in Odin and it said success. The phone booted and it seemed like it was going to work but then the recovery menu came up. I posted a screen shot of what it says, what action should I take from here? Thanks
I am also in a different boot loop now, before it would load to the first screen (black screen saying samsung galaxy 4g) then restart, now it boots to past the splash screen to where it says "Samsung" and then reboots back to the screen where the pink letters roll across the whole screen. I don't need to flash bootloaders do I?
Looks like recovery is broken or the updater script on the ROM you're trying to flash is messed up. Flash a new and the proper recovery via Odin then download a new Rom and either sideload it or mount usb from recovery and push it... Or you could just use Odin XD
EDIT: Samsung's are easy to brick and hard to debrick it may take a couple of trys

OK GREAT NEWS! After flashing with Odin and that screen popping up, I clicked update from SD card, which failed. I then click system reboot, which brought me into the new boot loop. I put back into download mode and re-flashed with One-Click. Same recovery menu came up as before but when I clicked reboot system it hung at the "Samsung" black screen (after the splash screen) for about 20-30 seconds and then booted up I'm afraid to turn the phone off and see if it reloads lol. Is it safe to say that it is fixed? Or should I still follow your advice and run the proper recovery in Odin and then sideload a new rom? Or take different action? Thanks for all your help guys! Everyone gets a thanks click for being so helpful and friendly on an unhappy/confused/pissed off/ now happy new Android user!
Ok I just put my Tmobile simcard in and the phone is not detecting the sim. Any suggestion?
The IMEI number and baseband both say "unknown", I'm assuming this has to do with the simcard not registering?

What Heimdall package are you applying ?
After JAR package runs you are ready to go.
As I wrote, according to guide you can reinstall "Gadget" driver.
EDIT :
Enigma, if you're not an owner of an SGS 4G please stop advising.
Odin is not the common way since we have MTD ROMs and it had its problems.
hubbs134,
blank IMEI is a serious problem. without a proper IMEI your device is everything but a phone.
Try this : take battery off, press the POWER button for 10 seconds, leave device untouched for 15 minutes and then put battery back and power up.
This could bring your IMEI back to life. If not... maybe another flash will help.
P.S
The 3e recovery image you put on post #14 is a snapshot of the the stock unrooted ROM recovery.
