Does anyone know about progress on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean ports for our beloved Nexus S? Will it be possible? I read earlier today that Google is not supporting the Nexus S anymore, so does that mean that the ROMs will be slightly buggier (lacking camera functionality, etc.)?
I'm honestly getting slightly jealous about looking at the Galaxy Nexus forum and all of the new ROMs being produced...
GAPPS is needed before any sort of porting starts.. The gapps package needed to run 4.2 is a far departure from 4.1.2. So.. It's a waiting game for a 4.2 GAPPs package.
For me at least..
Give it some time it just came out.

Yes, it will happen, and officially from Google too. For now we wait though.
I know it but jelly bean is very beautiful and i can't wait.

Total Ram is about 403 MB...
And available ranges from 50 - 200 MB.....
Matr1x kernel v22...
All in all a pretty quick port of Jelly Bean, unfinished though it may be.
Google claims that it will be available for us Nexus S users mid-July officially. I'm not so sure about that date and I'd sure like to see if a "daily" port of JB is any lighter for our device than ICS. I really like ICS but it feels like our phone is slow no matter what ROM+kernel combo we might use compared to GB. I think that patience is key for this update...
Will it be as hard as porting ICS to port Jelly Bean 4.1 to our device?
Or is it impossible?
MOD Edit...
All 4.1 Jelly Bean should go right here.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28092822#post28092822

I think that once ICS is working properly, porting 4.1 won't be as much of a job as it was to make ICS work. Don't expect it to be available soon, though.
Yes I would be happy to have fully functional Ics

jelly beans has almost same drivers and structure as ics.
once we have functional ics . then the new jb will not be hard as much as ics. that is why it is version 4.1 not 5.0. it means that the jb has minor updates not completely new.

Have you seen the new Google Now? Its even better than Siri!
Can somebody check changes in HAL? Maybe we can run hardware on JB that is not running on ICS like camera . Important is also kernel, question is can we run JB on 2.x kernel.

Google is moving towords personalization and productivity applications. Most development is carried on those sectors.
but if look to android structure, there is no big changes.

Hey guys,
First post here
Literally just flashed my S3 the other day to cm10 jelly bean ressurection remix the other day, and although its fast and what I'm after, it just doesn't feel as stable or, ERM how to put it...'authentic' as stock jelly bean on the nexus.
My dilemma is, I'm actually thinking of selling my S3 for galaxy nexus.
Opinions?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure what you mean by "authentic"...?
The S3 still has way better specs, and pair it with AOSP and its far better than a Galaxy Nexus

Huge N00B question here,
What's 'AOSP'?

Yup, basically all Nexii are AOSP and the only reason the S 3 is really "worse" is because of touchwiz and slower update (of course tw is a preference thing).
But all CM roms are AOSP so you pretty much have the nexus thing going on your S3

Is there any news that when there will me a custom rom for android 4.3.

Do you mean 4.2 as 4.3 as far as my knowledge goes hasn't been released yet.

4.2.2 is the latest I've heard. Has there been any talk about a major Android upgrade, like 5.0? Seems since Apple is doing a major upgrade IOS7, Google/android might want to just for marketing.
