I recently picked up a ps3 dual shock and an HDMI cable for my HOXL. This pretty much turns my phone into a tiny game console. I'm wondering if it would be possible to charge and use HDMI simultaneously, via a splitter. That would be awesome, not only for gaming, but for movie rentals and netflix.

As far as I know you can, you can't use USB devices and HDMI though. Look on eBay for a MHL HDMI adaptor.. should be a dongle type thing that has HDMI on one end, a plug for your charger, and then the connection into the phone.
Will do. Thanks for the response.

Hi all, new to these forums and trying to figure out some information on the xoom and its "interesting" HDMI out. With my friend's transformer on mini HDMI out, he is able to output full audio to our receiver without issues. I cannot do the same with this tablet and the micro HDMI to HDMI cable I have. It outputs tinny 2ch audio only.
I also tried it on four other receivers at the local fry's. Same deal... I therefore figured it is either an issue with the cable I bought or the xoom itself. It would be great to get this working for videos and the like, but the real deal is something far greater: playing angry birds in an earth shattering, bass powered 100" home theater slaughter.
Thanks for reading!

Well the quick way to narrow it down wuld be to try his trasnformer with your cable, or your xoom with his cable. My guess is that its probably the cable, cause I'm pretty sure we hooked a xoom up to the conferece room audio at work and it was incredibly loud bass and all...out of the blue, had the whole office wondering what was going on.

was that via HDMI or the 3.5mm jack on the top?
I would but unfortunately the xoom uses micro and the transformer uses mini. I ordered the official Motorola micro HDMI cable since it was $4 from amazon... if that doesn't work it has to be the xoom. Four high end receivers wouldn't give the same result like that. :-\

Not sure if this could be the problem, but I have been unable to play 5.1 encoded videos on the Xoom. Any videos with 5.1 audio play at fast forward speed.

Well I just tried the HDMI cable and same result. Trash audio. I noticed the sub is putting out the tiniest amount of bass if I Max out the sub... but then I switch to the transformer and it absolutely bleeds bass. Its something in the xoom... I'm disappointed.

Hi all,
I had posted a response in the other HDMI thread but think here may make more sense and even help some of you out. I use my Xoom with the Motorola micro HDMI to HDMI cable going from the Xoom straight into my Dell 21.5" HD monitor from the monitor i use the 3.5mm Audio out port straight into my powered JBL sub woofer which is also connected to 4 JBL speakers. I am getting a full and rich sound stage and for some shows or movies i actually need to turn the Bass down i hope this helps some of you figure out what can or can't be done using a HDMI cable and especially the Motorola cable which whilst it may not be the cheapest option at least for me is giving great results.
Marc
Yes... I have used that as well. It does work, but that does not excuse Motorola from making the HDMI work as it should. I don't always have a 3.5mm Jack to plug into. :-\

@what9000
Sorry I'm a little confused by your post as surely the point is the Motorola micro HDMI to HDMI cable is working as it should as I'm not plugging the 3.5m jack into the Xoom but my monitor so if the Moto cable wasn't carrying the Bass the monitor out wouldn't and couldn't out put it. I thought what others where saying was that they were finding thier HDMI cables were not carrying the bass or maybe I have misunderstood that as the point as many also said they are not using the more expensive Motorola cable was that may be the cause. I realize in theory any HDMI cable should work but real life isn't always that simple.
Marc
Neither HDMI cable type nor manufacturer will make a difference in the number of audio channels played nor resolution of the video output of our Xoom.
If you're only getting two channel sound, then that's all the Xoom is outputting, which makes sense as there's only two channels in our audio system IIRC.
I basically isolated it down to the xoom. Four receivers, two cables and same result. The only thing that didn't change was the xoom. This is a bit underwhelming...

You have to run audio out via 3.5mm jack to get good sound. You can run the hdmi to a dock with a audio out then plug some speakers into the dock and it will sound great, but not straight through the hdmi.

How do I get the HDMI working on the charge? I don't see an option for it anywhere, and I didn't get a prompt when hooking up my phone to the TV
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
plug the cable into your device and then into your tv it will work automatically. there is really nothing to be done on your end except making sure your tv is on the right input and you are using the correct cable.

This is the cable I bought: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VWYBC2
Works great, don't need to touch any settings; just plug in and go.
I did read that this cable has issues with HDMI 1.4 so if you have a brand new TV, you should look elsewhere.
I just picked up a cheap cable at Target. It works flawlessly. As started before, make sure the cable is hooked up to the right input, make sure the phones screen is on.

What do u guys think of this?
I would suggest not taking a gamble with an adapter, which can always introduce extra problems, when you can get a complete 3' cable for less:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10253&cs_id=1025301&p_id=6973&seq=1&format=2
Or a 6' cable for about $1.50 more:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10253&cs_id=1025301&p_id=6974&seq=1&format=2
There are a bunch of other lengths and options on MonoPrice, as well, and whichever way you go you'll be better off than overpaying in a physical store.
Doesnt work?
I did this on my charge, plugged into phone and then tv. Still says no signal? Cable is brand new from monoprice. I am running a different kernel and ROM, could that be an issue?

If you're sure you're on the right input and wiggling the cable in the phone doesn't help you could have a bad cable. My first one crapped out within seconds of beginning to use it.

Your TV might not like the signal the phone is putting out. My tv, which is a dinosaur in terms of 1080p tvs (its actually the first one to market, and has a DVI input) is finicky with certain resolutions, and alas, my droid charge through hdmi does not work either. Try a different TV to rule out a bad cable...
Quick question. Does the image mirror the resolution of the phone? Because whenever I hook up my charge, it seems to be missing some area on the top and bottom but I'm thinking this is justthe resolution of the phone.

Recently I order a brand new MediaBridge HDMI cable from Amazon from a friend for use in India in a sealed box & it did not work when I attached it to the phone & my Dell laptop. What could be the reason? Is there any symbol supposed to pop up on the phone or the laptop & on hindsight I just got thinking (gave the cable back now) in case if no symbol is supposed to pop up would directly playing a video on the phone while the hdmi cable is attached make it play on the laptop??
Don't want to be a smartass or anything but I hope you're selecting HDMI as the Source on your TV.
As I mentioned I tried on my Dell laptop running Win 7....is there anything specific I needed to do besides just connecting either ends between the phone & the laptop to get the HDMI working?

I'm sure it the HDMI Micro to HDMI connection from phome to laptop will not work. Laptop HDMI should only be an output, not an input. It will work from phone to a monitor or tv. Once connected you will be prompted to make a choice on the A2 for a display mode.
I bought a Dynex cable from BB that works fine with the Atrix 2 when connected to a monitor or tv.

Thanks. Yes you are right it is a micro hdmi (phone) to regular HDMI port on the Laptop. DAYMN..they should specify to unsuspecting users like me. IMHO many people would not be aware about this.
Just received the one for the S3 today. hooked it up, got good video and sound from my Sony Bravia TV. One problem, the video refreshes or goes blank every few seconds on the TV. What can be causing this (Bluetooth on ?). I searched the forums with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I know when i tried my friends MHL with an adapter for the 11 to 5pin configuration it was constantly refreshing when switching screens or orientation. I wonder if some of these S3's have issues and we dont find out unless we try out the MHL.
I had the same problem, I had the official Galaxy S2 MHL adapter with the 5 > 11pin adapter that was released by Samsung.
Same thing, the screen would go black every few seconds and I would lose sound. I contacted the seller of the mhl adapter and he send a new one but I still had the same problem, so I ended up returning both adapters until I can get a stable adapter =\ I don't know why but i would love to know as well why this is happening. I also have a sony tv.
This is the adaptor I am using:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080CXSOU/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00
I play Blue-Ray rips that are ripped at super high quality from my phone with no problems whatever.

But is that only once you have it running you dont touch the phone again? When i was using the MHL adapter it was to play a game and every time the screen changed, ie.. from menu to gameplay, it would flash and lose sound as the above poster said. May be an issue with the 11>5 pin adapter not sure.

Well, I have never played a game thru HDMI but I do get calls/texts etc which interrupt the movie and it always starts right up again with no problem. It also works perfectly to play MP3's & video thru my killer car stereo/video system that is hooked up thru an HDMI scaler.
I will try a game later when I get out of work & see how that works.

Hi guys. I'm kind of interested in this...will any generic USB -> HDMI adapter work on our phones, or does it have to be a special Samsung one?
Generic adapters?
Anyone try one of these adapters yet?

Hi!
Does anyone know whether connecting our phone to a TV via Micro USB to HDMI cable would work?
If so, is there a cable you'd recommend?
I loved using my previous smartphone as a portable movie player and I'd love to do the same with my XT1562.

you could buy a micro usb mhl hub to hdmi which normally includes a few ports other than hdmi. I haven't tested it myself but the prospect of installing Kodi into the phone, plug the mhl hub, hdmi cable to the tv, plug a bluetooth mouse adapter to the mhl hub usb port then you get a small android tv player. the only problem would be charging the phone, I'm not sure if the mhl hub could charge it.
Tell you what, I have an old moto Atrix HD with dual port (mini hdmi and micro usb). Perhaps I should buy the mhl hub and see if it works.

AFAIK Moto have no MHL nor Slimport, so it's not able to send video through MicroUSB.
Depending on your TV you could use screencasting.
