Hi!
Does anyone know whether connecting our phone to a TV via Micro USB to HDMI cable would work?
If so, is there a cable you'd recommend?
I loved using my previous smartphone as a portable movie player and I'd love to do the same with my XT1562.

you could buy a micro usb mhl hub to hdmi which normally includes a few ports other than hdmi. I haven't tested it myself but the prospect of installing Kodi into the phone, plug the mhl hub, hdmi cable to the tv, plug a bluetooth mouse adapter to the mhl hub usb port then you get a small android tv player. the only problem would be charging the phone, I'm not sure if the mhl hub could charge it.
Tell you what, I have an old moto Atrix HD with dual port (mini hdmi and micro usb). Perhaps I should buy the mhl hub and see if it works.

AFAIK Moto have no MHL nor Slimport, so it's not able to send video through MicroUSB.
Depending on your TV you could use screencasting.

Yep I confirm it works great.
On a 4K LG TV with WebOS and also with a Miracast dongle from Gearbest :good:

Is there such thing as micro USB to HDMI cable? I am talking about cable that would connect to micro USB port on HTC Desire S and to HDTV so i can see what i see on smartphone's screen on HDTV.
I know about USB to HDMI adapter but it costs ~$70. However i thought maybe there is a cable that would allow me to do same thing?
Thanks.
It's not possible whit desire s. EVO 3d sensaton and flyer have a mhl port. But desire s doesn't have. I wondered it too and this is the fact

Okay then what about USB to HDMI adapter?
The desire s doesn't have a tv out feature so as far as I'm aware even if there was such a cable then it still wouldn't be possible,
You can however stream media from your desire s using DNLA to comaptible devices such as PS3, xbox360, certain tvs etc.

So if smartphone does not have HDMI out then that means it does not have TV OUT?
MHL means micro usb to hdmi. It works with "extmicrousb" port. Desire S has just "microusb" port. DLNA is a good idea

Only newest televisions support DLNA and DLNA adapters cost a lot.
Dlna adaptors are the only way to do it with a stock rom. But I am unsure of whether an application exists that will let us connect the phone using a cable.
it's not a cable problem, desire s does not support video out
Hi guys!
I've just bought a new S4 (I9505) and I'd like to connect it to my Sony Full HD TV via HDMI... the official Samsung cable is the only choice we have or is there some aftermarket cable that works fine?
I'd like to connect my USB pendrive to the S4 so I can copy files from one side to another... what about that?
Thanks!
Use the Allshare cast dongle, HDMI over WiFi.
Or buy Samsung's smart dock. I think it has HDMI + charging + 2 USB ports.

Agreed.
Also, Google before you ask. This could have been found 0.68 seconds.
Thanks.

connecting usb pendrive is easy. Just get an OTG usb adaptor. There's already built in support in the phone so you won't even have to install another 3rd party app to get it to recognize yr usb pen drive.
I know the galaxy s4 does but on my nexus 5 it does not work...who else has tried it?
Only slimport works with the N5.

MHL cable doesn't work with the Nexus 5. You need a Slimport cable. When you plug in a Slimport cable, it works automatically (the display connected to the other end shows the same thing as the phone's screen), no app is needed.
The cables are not expensive, but get one which will power the phone also - HDMI display uses a lot of power, so this will prevent your battery from running down. I used the following cable from Newegg, Plugadget Micro USB HDMI Adapter SlimPort Micro USB 4K HDMI Audio Video Cable for Smartphone Tablets. It cost $14. However it took a long long time to get to me.
Hello guys,
My nexus 5 is not connecting with the TV via usb cable. Previously I had a phone and I use to play movies from that phone to the TV. What to do???
You need to buy a Slim Port adapter. It plugs into the HDMI port of your TV, not USB.
Edit: Or if you have a smart TV, screencast. In display settings.
Slimport? Will it work with 'LCD' cuz I don't have smart TV or HDTV??

What TV do you have? You need a HDMI on your TV
Yep it does have a HDMI port BTW its lg 42 inch
"lg 42 inch" hardly tells us anything lol..
If your TV is a 42' LCD with HDMI ports, I'm pretty sure it's a HDTV. Link to your television if you can find it? As long as there's a working HDMI connection, slimport should work.
Just pick one up from RadioShack or something. Keep the receipt. If it doesn't work just go back and tell them that and return it.
Well, I live in Pakistan and I can't find a slimport nearby me but yes I found a Mhl cable will it work?
No

MHL is for Samsung devices. Nexus uses a slimport to plug it on an HDTV and yes your TV is HDTV since it has an HDMI port

Obviously no integrated mini-hdmi port on the device. Me thinks the bandwidth, complex data transport (video + sound) plus dcma characteristics of a modern hdmi interface can not be emulated via OTG (usb port). So I'll wager a semi-educated guess - NO.
Read somewhere the device supports miracast and/or chromecast but haven't dabbled with those directly.

No, there is no MHL or SlimPort on the Amazon Fire.

I tried with a mhl cable, which is micro usb like the charging cable and must be connected via normal hdmi to tv and via usb to some sort of powersorce
Chromecast Mirroring works with fireOS 5.3.1. though the resolution is pretty bad.. mirroring is not working with the latest cm12.1 rom. Others reported it worked with an older build of cm12.1 but couldn't find out which built that was and where to get it.

it does not connect to a normal HDMI port, it must be an MHL compatible HDMI port on the back of the display. Usually the letters MHL will be above the specified port.

I have a Xperia Z5 and hdmi via hdml works fine with the same cable and port...
The MHL port has the same form as an HDMI port, but it isn't HDMI. HDMI is High-Definition Multimedia Interface, a standard connector included on most new TVs, which allows for uncompressed high-definition digital video and multi-channel audio via a single cable. MHL also allows for the same quality of video and audio input, and uses the same physical end-connector, but it's a different technology that uses five wires or pins to transmit high-def video and audio from a device to your TV while at the same time sending power back to the device.

As previously noted there is no evidence the 5th gen Fire will support MHL due to kernel (and possibly hardware/hardwire) restrictions. I would be shocked of Amazon baked in that capability. Hope I'm wrong ....

Err, no...you can't. Absolutely no way USB2 interface will support bandwidth required by HDMI not to mention HDCP support.

You can use TeamViewer app on your Fire tablet to mirror through PC and mobile. But no capturing audio in TeamViewer, it's only in tablet speaker. You want to using Bluetooth speaker.
Just to contribute, I tried a very cheap and simple looking microUSB to HDMI cable (probably not even MHL, no option to add a power source)
and I can't see any communication between the Fire 7 (5th generation) tablet and my non-smart TV.
Same results when I tried with AmazonOS, and with LineageOS 12.1 recently.
Maybe it would work if there was a way to provide more power to the cable?
However, this cheap cable does not give that option.
And connecting the microUSB part of the cable to the Fire tablet
means that I cannot charge it at the same time.
If I could figure out how to charge the tablet at the same time,
maybe the TV would receive a signal from the cable?
I also tried this cable with my android phone and again, nothing.
Maybe it's the cheap cable. Maybe it's not compatible with anything I own.
My non-smart TV does not seem to have internet capabilities either
but does have USB ports (I have a USB wifi antenna but I doubt the TV has the software to be able to do anything with it).
