Hi,
do you think it will be possible to install windows 8 RT (windows 8 arm processors version) like new Samsung Ativ?
Is there some dev interested to do this?
No... You're asking to install ios on android or vice versa... No drivers and different file structures, not to mention hardware difference, don't allow us to run win8 on an android device. This question has been asked since the galaxy tab7" gen 1 (and win 7) came out. I haven't seen it on that yet and that device is quite a few years old now...
Why would you want to? I see no true advantage by doing this.

If Samsung makes Ativ tablet with arm processor and windows 8 RT somebody can prefer it to android!
I love Android but i'd like to try Windows 8 RT, i repeat RT, on my GNote 10.1.
I don't think to be the only one
Me, I would also like to test it.
And to be honest: things like this is why we are here,or am I wrong?

Me too
I'm on xda for mods and tests
Will never be possible.
RT needs a min resolution of 1366×768

Any discussion on this is futile. Microsoft has already made it clear that it will only make Win 8 RT available to OEM's.

Watch this:

The window is getting smaller.... Windows 8 RT devices will be coming out soon and we still don't have any Android + Ubuntu devices.
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android
When they announced that I was thrilled but it wasn't released for people to install or incorporate into their ROMs.
I don't know what they're waiting for... possibly for a device manufacturer to pre-load it?
In any case, they're missing their window of opportunity.
I have a HTC One S and a Nexus 7 which I'd love to run Ubuntu on alongside Android.
Try my project we are working towards the same kind of set up but far more universal

What are you talking about? If you want to run Ubuntu on your Android, just do it.

Hello Guys found some threads talking about install windows 8 on my tablet, would like to know if is this really possible, and how about dual boot with android and windows 8? i would like to see some tutorial for it! if someone could help me ill be glad, thanks.
It's not possible as windows 8 its closed source and you need in first place a Kernel able to handle the hardware from windows and that dear won't happen ever..
So you would see windows xxx development as much as you see ios development.. So let's do the maths. Erm its so hard... (1 hour later) oh yeah the answer its 0

But what about that tablets that comes with windows 8 arm? must be a port for tablets....i really need to run some operational system different, like ubuntu native or windows native...
Buy a windows 8 tab then.. Some android devices has Linux ports partially working but I don't see the point on doing that...
As I said can't be ported unless there's some tab with the exact same hardware wich I highly doubt will happen... Having the same processor mean nothing it needs several other things..
Put it in this way.. Get 2 computers with same processor core i7 with a different motherboard/hard drive /video card/network cards/modems then create an image from 1 of the 2 pcs and try to use that image in the other pc... It won't boot at all even if they have the same processor...

I think Lenovo has announced a tablet that will dual boot android and Windows 8, but unless someone reverse engineers all our drivers, it will never happen on our tabs

i know nothing about porting windows or whether or not it can even be used on this tablet...
do any of you know if we could dual boot windows rt on this?
Maybe

I am also interested in this question. If someone finds the time reply please.
It seems to be a possibility bc Asus is releasing a windows 8 tablet with the same specs as our tf700 except more ram.

Not possible and illegal if it would somehow happen. That's like porting iOS to an android smartphone or tablet.

Not quite. iOS is meant to run only on Apple hardware. Android and Windows on the other hand are meant to be run on as many pieces of hardware as possible.

Not to mention, you would need the source code for iOS. Android is open source thus allowing developers to port it onto any capable device.

Did anyone check Windows 8 RT's architecture? If it's x86 it's not going to work with ARM.
Edit: Boink! It's ARM, we should see it on here in the future. Maybe Windows 8 RT will avoid the ridiculous I/O problems we currently have.

I don't think it's possible because Windows RT won't be released for consumers. It comes preinstalled.

Just saw this on engadget. http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/17/asus-windows-8-tablets-599-799/
It shows a TF600T, seems to be about the same specs(with the little they show) as our tf700t. Maybe that will mean that we might be able to dual boot win 8!?
I sure hope so!
While theoretically it is possible to dual boot both Android and Windows RT if you can hack the UEFI firmware, I don't bet my money on the tf700 being able to boot Windows RT. Microsoft has made it very clear for all OEMs that there must be no mechanism to disable secure boot on Windows RT. So, as far as I can understand, there are 2 problems:
1. Windows RT is only available to OEMs to preinstall on their devices and it won't be available to the public.
2. Windows RT requires UEFI secure boot, which won't allow anything else to run, including Linux.
Business as usual, I don't expect Microsoft to play nice with Android.

Doubt windows 8. Windows RT... maybe...
Someone would need to port ROM from existing samsung win RT tablets...
Not even sure if its possible. Hopefully others who know more can tell on feasibility.

I do not thing you will be able to install Windows 8 though RT version is made for ARM processors so should be possible may be some day some expert will manage as for you to install it you need the drivers to the hardware inside
Where this is clearly possible I think you will find the windows RT software licence will not allow any kind of porting to other devices, as such DEV would quite rightly not be permitted on XDA.
Windows rt was ported to htc hd2 a 3 years old device, so it should be possible
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
i cant see this going anywhere due to licencing issues, the project will certainly have very limited exposure on here for good reasons. I'd certaintly install it though if it did come to pass.
Should definitely be possible, just a matter of time..
It should be possible, but the question is why would I do that Windows 8 has not got great reviews
There is great hope for an Ubuntu 12.10 port (native) witch is far greater then win 8 rt ! (win 8 (not rt) it is impossible to port do to different cpu architecture)

Possible if they are using same proccesor. Just need sometime
Sorry if I rain on your parade and I go upstream.........
Which is the point of replacing Android, which is THE BEST when it comes to touchscreen tablets, with the crappiest operating system called "Windows 8"?????''
You should know Microsoft is definitely going to the dogs with this new OS - they swore to us this W would be a revolution and it's a Vista replication instead - increasingly slow and complicated. I bought W8 in November and I've had it updated once a day for two months - minor o major bugs, I don't know but certainly it drives me up the wall, the more updated, the slower.
I thought it wouldn't be as brilliant as Microsoft reckoned, but I wonder how an OS could have a minimum number of downsides in order to be considered just an "improvement".... ****!
So I've got to get a N8000 to fix my mobility issues - the app collection really sorted out everthing to me - and now I should think about a W8-working N8000......... sorry......... what the ****'s that???
I agree

Asus releasing a tegra 3 quad core tablet that runs full Windows 8 when docked and gives user choice of Win8 or Android 4.1 when detached as a tablet. So there is compatibility.

Hi all
have anyway to install windows xp on n8000
thank you
Unless someone has some impressive programming skills then I don't think so. Someone asked earlier in this forum if Windows 8 could be installed and it looked highly unlikely.

Not unless you happen to have all the drivers for the hardware and some good programming skills...
This question has been going around since the samsung galaxy tab - 1st 7" tablet... It still doesn't have it. If it hasn't been cracked there in the couple of years it's been out then you can be assured it ain't coming to the note 10.1 any time soon...
Lol sorry bud, thats not happening. Xp runs on intel and amd processors as far as i know...
And the amount of work it would take to port xp to this tablet is not worth it, esp for an outdated system like xp. Windows rt i believe you, xp not likely
