Hello all,
I have a big problem with my Transformer.
I was using Android Revolution HD 3.5.1. Then flash LiquidSmooth v2.0 RC7 , then KERNEL of sainthout for JB, and issue happened.
Issue:
- Can't copy and paste any kind of file from outside into the internal storage (I don't have sdcard, use internal storage only). Everytime I try, it takes a long time and respond with a Windows message like this
- Can't use File Manager to delete or move file, it says "Delete file failed"
- I can delete file while connect to PC but the file still exist.
Try to flash back to Android Revolution HD 3.5.1 and harmony kernel but it still failed.
Need advice.
Kind regards,thanks
Update troubleshoting:
When I wipe Dalvik Cache, Transformer says: "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]"

Use easyflash and go back to stock, then root it again, install a different recovery ( twrp or rogue recovery)

I had a similar problem. Seems like between JB and ICS roms the permissions get messed up. I have a user "media_rw" in JB and "sdcard_rw" in ICS on the mount to /sdcard. The only way I could fix it was to backup the data and reformat the internal memory. Then I just copied the data back.
One other thing first, try copying from /data/media. That should be the same as /sdcard.

OMG I don't think there is someone got the weird issue like me. I totally agreed with you about the permissions between JB and ICS roms.
Thought about your solution, trying it, thanks. But can you give me more details of how to reformating the internal memory

Internal memory can be wiped using twrp recovery, I'm not sure that option is available in rogue, if its there use it... wipe everything and install CM10 , it should work.....

This is what I had to do. Wipe internal memory from TWRP. I copied the data back after format using Root Explorer.
I had some scripts setup to do the copy recovery, but I think that only made the problem worse.

Wipe and do a clean install.... do not copy any old data back... CLEAN INSTALL...
Sent from my Transformer using xda app-developers app
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant only the data you didn't have in the backup or wasn't in the backup. I agree, the key is the clean install.
When I had my issue, my "internal storage" in wasn't backed up. The Download, Android, Pictures, etc folders.

SOLVED! thanks you very much for your advice bro, it works with me now!
To anyone who has the problem like me, please follow this thread.
And one lesson for me, always backup the current rom before update anything!!!
You're more than welcome. I'm glad I could actually help someone for once instead of feeling like such a leech.

I've already flashed a custom recovery image of ClockworkMod Recovery 5.8.3.1 and have rebooted into recovery, which works fine.
I have Downloaded the latest version of CyanogenMod and gapps-ics and placed on the root of the sd card in my xoom. I have also tried this by placing this in the root on the internal storage but I am having the same issue here.
I can wipe data/factory reset fine, as well as wipe cache no issues, but then when I go into install zip from SD card, then choose zip from sd card I get the line E:Can't mount /sd/card/ so can't install the zips cm-9.0.0-rc1-wingray or gapps-ics
Any thoughts on what might be the issue here, and why I cant get to the zips. As I said I have tried this both ways, having the zips on the internal storage and on the actual SD card.
HELP! So so fed up with v3.2 I need CM9 on this!
I don't know if the message is caused by the launcher. I would disable the signature check and try again.

I had the same problem, did a few google searches which indicated there was a problem with that version of ClockworkModRecovery, i ended up reflashing with ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) and all was fine after that.
Hope that helps,
K
Thanks will give that a go and post back later for if it helps others.

My question is, what is being wiped/formated when i do so in recovery mode?
If i have the "new rom" in the sdcard, before flashing it, doesn't that get wiped?
And what about Titanium backups? Or if i want to keep a stock rom backup on my device just in case?
I know there are partitions and everything has it`s place...but still, wanna be absolutely sure.
Can someone please explain what's what?
Thank you

i'm pretty sure you get to keep everything but what's in youe /system/ folder.

Ok, that helps, but what does a factory rest ( from backup & rest menu ) do, and what does formating from recovery do? Does both only del the /system/?
What about what's in the /sdcard folder? There are cache folders there, does clearing cache and dalvik clears those as well ?
Just curious, what to learn and haven't found anything about it....
Thanks!

I havent tried it out with this tablet yet but on my phone it does NOT format sdcard neither the internal sdcard.
So I dont think you would loose data on the sdcard. (Though not 100% sure with this tablet)

Yes don't do what I did and backed everyting up to the internal SD card thinking that waould be ok.. It ended up wiping everything. :silly:
I wasn't too happy either as I still haven't been able to get another copy of the tablet version of Firefox.

I`m confused a bit...
When installing a new Rom, some say; to wipe and format and clear cache and then install from zip....
So where do they keep the zip file if everything is getting wiped...?
same goes for Titanium backup, backups...
Thanks!

I thnk it depends on what recovery you're using to do this
here's what I did
titanium backup, everything to external SD card
install TWRP
make nandroid on external SD card
download rom
copy rom to external SD card
unmount/remove external SD card from tablet
in TWRP there was no option to format
so I cleared/wiped cash and dalvic
everything but the system folder was left intact
flash rom
reboot
everything is works great
but note most instructions say to format
I haven't been on CWM, but my guess is there's a format option in that recovery
Format would definetely wipe albsolutely everyting
compare to clear/wipe cashe and dalvik is not the same
yep, i'm not gonna risk loosing data... copy all backups to external microsd
and then format/factory rest.... and then copy Rom back to internal sdcard...and clear
cache...
better safe then sorry...
thanks
I've tried several diff jb ROMs now currently on beta 6. I've tried several diff cwm recoveries now currently on the latest 6.0.1.0. I can install zips wipe but I cannot backup my ROMs or restore any backups. I'm not allowed to post in the specific thread but trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Cwm boots in recovery then stalls and mentions something about my sdcard...
Sounds like your sd card got unmounted. Not sure how to fix that though...

I take it you have sufficient disk space for the backup file...which can be anywhere from 200mb up to 1.5 Gb or so?
Just do it "manually" after getting the error
In other words from cwm not ROM manager
I had the same error

Hello guys
I am new to the rooting scene and I ran into a little problem. I followed an instruction online to root my tablet (TF101) and got Rom Manager to work. I also flashed ClockworkMod by using the rom manager. I am trying to flash my rom into the Jelly Bean from EOS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782410. I did a full back up of my stock rom and ready to install the new rom. I put the downloaded file (from the link I put) into the root folder of the main SD. But when I try to install the rom from rom management, my tablet just reboots and nothing is installed. I really have no idea where to go from here. Please help !
I got it to install but now I am stuck at the boot screen! What now?

You have soft bricked the tablet...
Can you access CWM ?
then download the latest build of team eos (build 63)... create a folder in your external MMC and save it in there
Go to recovery/cwm and format factory settings/data, wipe cache wipe dalvik cache
Now install the ROM by navigating to the folder where you have saved the zip file and selecting it...

I had that issue a while ago...cwm recovery doesn't play that nicely with the tf101...I had to get team rogues specially altered cwm and hey presto, back in the game!

U just soft bricked your tablet... as long as you can access your recovery you should be OK... format your external mmc and then copy the latest version of eos and place it back into tablet... now wipe everything and flash it again you should be OK.. doesn't work then wipe and use AOSP JB... you will get it to work don't worry...

When you say mmc, are you talking about the micro SD card? I have been installing from the internal SD. Do you think that could have caused the problem? Also when you say format, do u mean delete everything and place the JB zip file directly into the micro SD?
Problem fixed. I just followed this guide and got a new CWM and that seems to work great
Here is the guide for anyone with the same problem.

So for some reason 2.3.3 isn't showing the correct files when trying to flash, most folders are empty and everything was unorganized, went to CWM and everything worked fine.
Every time I try to flash 2.3.1 again it won't let me. Is there any other app like goo manager to flash twrp or a way to fix 2.3.3?

What do you mean most folders are empty/unorganized? Which rom are you on and do you have a /sdcard/0 directory? When you say CWM worked fine, in what way did it work fine?
Beans build 9, it's not 4.2 but I do have 0 folders from previous 4.2 flashes. In a root folder I have all my files there and everything is there, in cwm everything is the same. In TWRP some folders are missing, the download folder for example is empty, and they arentbin the order they're supposed to be.

So your filesystem looks like this /sdcard/0/? If so, just move all the folders from /sdcard/0 to the /sdcard path. Basically, if you have this /0 directory with all your data saved to it, this causes havoc when you switch roms or want to restore backups.
I'm not understanding your flashing issue with TWRP. Did you place a rom on /sdcard, boot right into TWRP 2.3.3, and it just wouldn't see that rom zip or is it something else? Or did you put the rom zip on /sdcard/0?
It's actually the opposite, the /0 is showing and not the root of the SD card.

Could you screenshot what you're seeing? If you see /0, you can just go up one level and be on /sdcard.
I actually got it fixed but thanks for trying to help, the problem was that it was only showing the /0 folder and not the actual root so the root finally showed after flashing a 4.2.
The first thing on SD card was that 0 folder, weird problem.
