Flashing CM9 on Xoom keeps failing - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've already flashed a custom recovery image of ClockworkMod Recovery 5.8.3.1 and have rebooted into recovery, which works fine.
I have Downloaded the latest version of CyanogenMod and gapps-ics and placed on the root of the sd card in my xoom. I have also tried this by placing this in the root on the internal storage but I am having the same issue here.
I can wipe data/factory reset fine, as well as wipe cache no issues, but then when I go into install zip from SD card, then choose zip from sd card I get the line E:Can't mount /sd/card/ so can't install the zips cm-9.0.0-rc1-wingray or gapps-ics
Any thoughts on what might be the issue here, and why I cant get to the zips. As I said I have tried this both ways, having the zips on the internal storage and on the actual SD card.
HELP! So so fed up with v3.2 I need CM9 on this!

I don't know if the message is caused by the launcher. I would disable the signature check and try again.

I had the same problem, did a few google searches which indicated there was a problem with that version of ClockworkModRecovery, i ended up reflashing with ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) and all was fine after that.
Hope that helps,
K

Thanks will give that a go and post back later for if it helps others.

[Q] Need help installing CM7

Okay, So here is what I have done so far:
1) Rooted phone
2) Installed CWM and flashed the i9000 version per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881
3) I reboot into 3e recovery, wipe data and cache
Here is where I'm having the problem. My only options are Reboot, Reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache, format internal SD card. If I try to reinstall packages it tries to open update.zip (which doesn't exist) and doesn't let me choose a .zip from my SD card. Also I get the E: signature verification failed.
I had CM7 on my captivate and I remember having this same problem but don't remember how I solved it. Any help would be appreciated because I am feeling frustratingly slow on this. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to install modded 3e recovery (putting the modded recovery file into system/bin) then hit "reinstall packages" option twice. Try THIS link
That gives you working CWM
When you get to flashing CM7, after the first flash, a battery pull and re-flash is needed. Also don't forget to flash gapps!
There is a video on YouTube about that recovery

cwm help

I've tried several diff jb ROMs now currently on beta 6. I've tried several diff cwm recoveries now currently on the latest 6.0.1.0. I can install zips wipe but I cannot backup my ROMs or restore any backups. I'm not allowed to post in the specific thread but trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Cwm boots in recovery then stalls and mentions something about my sdcard...
Sounds like your sd card got unmounted. Not sure how to fix that though...

I take it you have sufficient disk space for the backup file...which can be anywhere from 200mb up to 1.5 Gb or so?
Just do it "manually" after getting the error
In other words from cwm not ROM manager
I had the same error

Ran into a problem installing JB rom EOS

Hello guys
I am new to the rooting scene and I ran into a little problem. I followed an instruction online to root my tablet (TF101) and got Rom Manager to work. I also flashed ClockworkMod by using the rom manager. I am trying to flash my rom into the Jelly Bean from EOS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782410. I did a full back up of my stock rom and ready to install the new rom. I put the downloaded file (from the link I put) into the root folder of the main SD. But when I try to install the rom from rom management, my tablet just reboots and nothing is installed. I really have no idea where to go from here. Please help !
I got it to install but now I am stuck at the boot screen! What now?

You have soft bricked the tablet...
Can you access CWM ?
then download the latest build of team eos (build 63)... create a folder in your external MMC and save it in there
Go to recovery/cwm and format factory settings/data, wipe cache wipe dalvik cache
Now install the ROM by navigating to the folder where you have saved the zip file and selecting it...

Also read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671598.
I had that issue a while ago...cwm recovery doesn't play that nicely with the tf101...I had to get team rogues specially altered cwm and hey presto, back in the game!

U just soft bricked your tablet... as long as you can access your recovery you should be OK... format your external mmc and then copy the latest version of eos and place it back into tablet... now wipe everything and flash it again you should be OK.. doesn't work then wipe and use AOSP JB... you will get it to work don't worry...

When you say mmc, are you talking about the micro SD card? I have been installing from the internal SD. Do you think that could have caused the problem? Also when you say format, do u mean delete everything and place the JB zip file directly into the micro SD?
Problem fixed. I just followed this guide and got a new CWM and that seems to work great
Here is the guide for anyone with the same problem.

[Q] Can't flash anything

Flashed instigator kernel onto chimera mod without explicitly checking to see if it would work (i know)
phone soft bricked
fixed using CWM, restored back up, but could not flash anything afterwards
error looks something like this
E:Can't open /sdcard/ROM/vincom/[rom name].zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
Restored to stock using odin, reinstalled CWM but same error. Installed TWRP but same error
everything works perfectly fine but can't flash anything, same error for any flash
never seen this problem before, don't think its in this forum anywhere
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm on TWRP 2.2.0 right not, can't get back to CWM because of no flashing thing.
as far as i can see no format sd option on TWRP
is wipe SD the same as format on here?
Turn your phone off, then remove the SD card and plug it into your PC with an adapter. Format it from there. I've had better results that way.

Check the md5 for the rom? What's with the E: prompt?

Out of curiosity, what are/were you trying to flash?

Ya its like you are trying to flash the path to the rom instead of the rom itself. Is that error message showing up in the cwm ui or in the odin window on your pc?
If it's in odin.. You can't flash a zip file. You'll need to unzip the zip (7zip?) and flash the tar file inside if it is a odin type file. Otherwise flash the rom with cwm or better yet TWRP.

I'm not trying to flash a zip file in odin.
That appeared in CWMT 6.0.1.4, similar message appeared in TWRP.
In each case it has trouble opening the zip file containing whatever rom i'm trying to flash, doesn't matter the path, rom, sdcard, whatever.
pretty sure there's nothing wrong with any of the files or the sd cards, the phone just can't open a zip package from anywhere.
However, CWM worked, once, going from CWM 5 to CWM 6, only time it's done anything in a recovery.
I have attempted to flash multiple roms including cm9, cm10, superlite, and chimera, in CWM 5, CWM 6 sk8terwitskil's version, and TWRP 2.2.0
EDIT:
i had some luck with flashing a zip that just contained google now.
I noticed today that the sd card worked without my normal files on it (the zip was in the downloads folder) and the major difference that I see is before I restored the sd card files android.secure wasn't on the sd card.
I have android.secure on both the internal and external sd cards, (since restoring my original ext sdcard files) not sure if that's normal or not.
Should i just remove android.secure and see if it works? Can the phone do without it if that's not the problem?
is android secure supposed to be on both cards? My gut says no.
What the **** is android.secure anyway?
are zips that contain just apps or services like google now (non-wipe) fundamentally different from ROMs in some way that would let them flash but not the ROM zips?
Thanks to everyone who has responded and helped so far.
If anyone has answers to these questions I would appreciate it.

[Q] CWM can't mount /sdcard

I've installed CWM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671598 and then from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855686 on my TF101 and neither one can see the microSD card to back up the data
Am I doing something wrong?

Change to TWRP, works so much better and can use the internal or external storage for your backup. Search the forums for the how-to.
Just tried it, from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818452
No dice, can't select "external sd card" and can't mount it...
I will look up the TWRP install and link it to you. I did an app install to flash it. I just gotta remember how I did it. I didn't have my PC with me when I went from the HD rom to CM10 and I couldn't mount my SD card with CWM at all. I remember trolling these forums to find the TWRP install. I have 24 hour duty, so i will dig for it.
*EDIT*
Can you not boot into the OS? or are you stuck in CWM?

I can boot into the OS just fine and I'm not stuck in CWM. What I meant in my previous reply was that I installed TWRP via GooManager but after rebooting into it, it doesn't see my microsd card, just like CWM...
The booted OS (original, rooted) does see the card and it's empty
