I opened my ROM manager today and saw there is an updated ROM manager available. I downloaded it, but it is nowhere to be found. How can I update???
Download the new one from the link they sent you after donating.
OK. I had to send them an e-mail the first time around, so I guess I'll just do it again.
Save the link and password this time lol.
I have successfully installed the latest nightly rom by Tezet. It works perfectly, except there are no Google Apps. (I miss Store.)
So I went on and read the XDA howto about the Gapps package.
I grabbed the pack from here the Cyanogenmod wiki. (Can't post URLs yet.)
(Top one.) And put it onto my SDCard. I named it Gapps.zip, but I guess it doesn't matter.
After booting my phone into recovery mode (X+power on), and selecting the "Install update" option, it starts to install the package.
However, the install fails half-way. Saying the signature is invalid. If I understand the howto properly, the update should work (as it's signed).
How could I fix this?
I have tried to download my APKs with "Real APK Leecher", but it asks for the Device ID.
Now... as I don't have a Google Play on the phone, I just can't download any app to find out my Device ID.
I'm pretty stuck at the moment.
I run SlimSaber that uses CM12 firmware and that includes the Download application that I think manages downloads (?). When I download a file it's the application that generates the Download Completed notification. Problem is, that even after deleting the downloaded file, clearing it from the download list in the Download application and after multiple days and reboots the notifications keep being generated.
Does anyone know why this is and how it can be stopped.
Newest TWRP. Fresh FULL wipe (if you can wipe it in TWRP, I've wiped it, and rebooted back into recovery).
Install latest CM nightly no problem.
Next in queue is CM's 12.1 arm gapps straight from the source.
It immediately aborts installation with the standard red text "FAILED" error. I've redownloaded and tried several times. Can't think of anything else.
Please help!
EDIT: I guess I'm wondering why it's failing, but more importantly how to get it to stop failing. Other gapps install fine, but I don't want someone's custom package (they're all different!!!!) I just want the one that's made explicitly for CM12.1 because the reason I'm starting from scratch in the first place is things were starting to get buggy and I want the most proper install I can do, right from the start this time.

I don't see how the CM gapps are superior to any other gapps package, they're just stock Google apps. Just use a different package and be done with it.
The links on the CM website are messed up or something. You can use the direct github link to download them.

Really? Look at the package size. Look at the MD5. They aren't the same. And when 100% of the reason for restarting COMPLETELY FROM SCRATCH is to make sure everything is proper, then having half the install not-proper is kind of a big deal.

Thanks. I already used some [Moderator edit: Please don't use profanity here] random gapps package, but at least this is on the internet for the record now, hopefully others will find it useful. This is the second time I've restarted my phone on a serious note this year, and also the second time CM has failed to deliver a working download.

You're just not properly understanding what a gapps package is. Of course the md5 is going to be different. Even just one different letter in the updater script will cause the md5 to be different. You do understand that a gapps package is just a collection of Google Apps that can be (mostly) found on the Play Store, completely untouched (in most cases), and arranged into a flashable zip for convenience, right? They vary in size because different gapps packages contain more or less apps depending on your needs. The CM package contains the exact same apps as any other gapps package, it isn't superior. Extract the package and check the md5 of the Google Play Services app, then do the same thing with the Google Play Services app from another gapps package, it'll be exactly the same (as long as it's the same build number), and this trend will continue for every single apk found in each package.
First a word of thanks to all who have assisted. I have managed to to flash TWRP (latest 3.2 version and TWRP app); install KitKass 7.2.1 and gapps pico. The dock keyboard and a USB mouse work. :highfive:
The setup file would not run; kept shutting down. I restored the system from a nandroid to get around this issue.
I set up & configured my network connection and Kat Browser . All seems good.
1. As best a I can determine downloading .apk files does not work. The .apk website: APK4Fun web site displays a downloading XYZ.apk message. I do not see a download progress bar. Probably not looking in the right spot.
2. After what seems like a reasonable interval (5-10 minutes) checking Internal Storage Download and SD Card Download folders shows no content. Download location set to: /storage/emulate/0/Download. Does this correspond to the internal storage download file? Stumped once again.
3. Should I install Play store? How?
