Accessing Xbox LIVE on an account linked to one that has Xbox LIVE - Microsoft Surface

I'm having trouble getting Xbox LIVE access on my Surface. I use my email, but my dad's email has Xbox Music and Xbox LIVE access. Even though our accounts are linked, I can't access it. How can I?

If you log on with a live account to the pc, you can't specify a different live account in the apps. If you log on with a local account, you can manually specify a different live account for each app like music, video etc. Is this what you mean?

So my account has to be local?

The website says there isn't a way to connect my PC to SkyDrive if I use a Microsoft account. Can I use my dad's for SkyDrive as well?

If you want to use an alternate live account t for services such as the store or music apps then yes, I believe so.

You can transfer Xbox Live accounts from one account to another if they works for you. That's what I ended up doing when I had one email tied to Xbox Live and another tied to my Surface. Stupid that it doesn't work even though they're linked.

Any way to see 4 gmail accounts in 1 inbox?

I see there are apps like K9 but ideally I'd not want to have to re-setup my accounts, but I don't see a way to see all 4 gmail accounts in one box. If I set them up in the Mail app the delivery is delayed but the gmail app is near instant but it drives me nuts not being able to see all email in one box.
Thanks!
In K-9 setting, make your default view as unified folder.
THis way it will show you all emails from all account.

Oh I said aside from K9 so I don't have to type all my accounts hee hee
Ideally want to keep the stock gmail but guessing that isn't possible eh?
You could foward your accounts to just one.

Not the ideal solution, especially for replies.
Any update to this one? I'd prefer 1 email box instead of 4.

That's not one inbox it then separates them into 4. I want a single unified inbox.
Oh. Then k9 is your best bet.

No good for me :-(
I'm using the stock ROM and email app and it gives a choice of seeing email from all accounts on one screen. On the side it has a colored bar that shows what account the email is from. Not sure if that's what you mean.

Yeah that's the built in mail app, designed for non-gmail. To use gmails' true push functionality, one has to use the gmail client. Unlike Mail app, it allows you to add as many as you want but you have to view each separately. :-(
Guess what. If you set up your gmail as an exchange account you can get true push. Just use set up manually and use m.google.com as the server.

You're going to have to give me more detail than that
It wants the email, which I have my own domain I use through Google Apps, which for all intensive purposes is the same as google, it's just @mydomain instead of gmail.com, but all the servers are the same...
The issue is it wants a server, which the m.google.com doesn't fly with setting it up, then it wants a domain, and if I enter gmail.com or my domain it doesn't work.
I just set mine up as a test. Check requires encryption. Server is m.Google.com I left domain blank. Worked fine.

OMG You're a GENIUS (Again!). I was trying m.gmail.com and that's why it wasn't working. I changed to m.google.com and it works great as an exchange server. Thank you so much!
Seems a lot better than having to look at one box at a time in the Gmail app

[Q] How to add a SECOND Windows Live to the Messaging hub?

Hello my xda friends,
Last night I updated to Mango RTM version. Its all working very good.
I synced my Windows Live account with mail and people.
Also the chat is working good thru the Messaging hub.. But only facebo
ok is showing up..
So my question is: How can I add Windows Live accounts to the chat function?
Thanks alot
EDIT:
Some additional information: I have 2 Windows Live account. One for the marketplace (a fake one). This is also the one I add first in the phone.
This is because Zune then sees my fake account so im able to download apps.
After that I add my 'good' account. The problem is, the people from this account are not showing up in the Messaging hub??!!
Sounds excessively complicated to me. I'd just stick to one Live account (I use the one tied to my Xbox Live account, personally).

Yes I know but as far as I know its the only way to download / install apps from the Marketplace?
I tried a hard reset and entered my normal account first... then the Messaging page IS showing my people BUT as you can guess, I cannot download anything from the marketplace.
So right now its Marketplace VS Messenger....
You can't. The built-in Messenger only uses the primary Live ID. You cannot have it sign-on to multiple Live IDs at once, or use an alternate ID.
It seems to be that the marketplace is already available
At the 23 of august MS finally added the Netherlands to the list!
Finally I can drop my fake account
Thanks for all the answers

[Q] No Live messenger chat on secondary account in Mango??

Looks like it is only possible to chat via your main Live Messenger Account in Mango.. I have an older secondary account with about 100 contacts and I see nothing in the messages tile for them even when I know they are online... My primary account I use for Xbox Live and Zune... with no Live Messenger contacts.. Obviously both accounts work ok for email..
Am I missing something???

just like xbox live only works for primary live id... why wouldnt use ur older one as primary ?
I have the same problem. I am from India and I had set up a new live id with a fake US address when I got wp7 last year so that I could use the app store and other features. Though I use another live id as my main live id and have been using that since ages. So all my contacts, etc. are on that ID.
Now I can't use that ID on mango to logon to messenger. That sucks.
Any work around for that?

Has she or you synced any other live services? i.e. Zune or Xbox?
Not syncd to Xbox maybe Zune. I will check that. If she's synced to Zune what would be the cause?

This is a speculation, but somewhere on Microsoft Answers it says re-adding the account helps. Also if you haven't gone through massive changes in the phone, it will be worth to try a hard reset. The during start up skip logging into the live services, let the phone reboot and after a reboot try accessing market, it will ask to log in - at that point enter the live ID etc. This way you would re-add the account for zune, xbox and other live services too.
Also, if her twitter/LinkedIn are linked with windows live ID, and if they have slightly different D.O.B. - it might be a cause. I've had similar issue with XBOX sync but wasn't much of a problem as most games were 16+ and it thought I was 19.
No massive changes. All I've added was her hotmail account. I tried resetting the phone already but will try it again and then reboot > market > login. Not sure what else to do after that besides make her a new account which she doesn't want.
I'll give this a shot and see how it goes.
Thanks drupad2drupad. Got it figured out last night. Signed into her account on zune and it prompted me for her 'parental' email since hers was created when she was 15 or so with her dads help.
Once I did that it set her account straight.

That is what I was going to suggest. There is a similar issue on xbox with problems caused by child accounts. I believe that there is a way to promote the child account to an adult one but I don't remember what it was exactly. I'd recommend doing this though to avoid future problems.
Edit: Here are the steps for xbox live

According to this it should nag you to promote it

ISP Email or Gmail/Hotmail etc?

I'm just curious what everyone uses most for day to day? Your email accounts that come included with your home internet or online services like Gmail and Hotmail?
I have 2 email accounts on my ISP that I use for most stuff. My Gmail account tied to my phone I only use for Google Play and nothing else. The reason I prefer using my ISP email is because it's less popular and less prone to datamining by big online entities like Google or MS and they're just as disposable. I guess I feel a little better deep inside letting Rogers spy on my activities than an international giant online entity.
For example, I'll use my ISP email accounts to sign up for PayPal, dropbox, eBay etc rather than Gmail.
Just curious what others prefer
Neither. I bought my own domain and use e-mail on that for everything personal - gives me as many different addresses as I want for self, webmaster etc.
Of course, there are many times when I also create a spam-drop address for web-site sign-ups.
Gmail. I have my own domains as well, and use them on Google Apps.
It's convenient. I've been using my gmail since near the start of gmail and there's no reason to really change it.

How does the search function work on that? I think Gmail has surpased hotmail as it is really easy to use and groups emails together. I never thought I would switch to gmail but it seems superior at the moment.

Outlook.com is more in line with what Gmail has to offer. MS is finally rebranding and doing away with Hotmail. I like how you can create a throwaway email addy in an instant.
Recently setup an outlook.com address and thinking if migrating to that from gmail. A few articles I have read indicate that MS will be taking users privacy a little more seriously than google does.
